nicole jackson No, MJ was past his prime. There was even doubts that he would successfully pull off those sold-out shows in London. He was in very bad shape, physically and mentally. It's little surprise he died before the tour started.
musicaltheatergeek79 but yet he sold out his entire tour in matter of hours.....if he was past his prime i think people wouldn't have wasted their money, but hey that's just your opinion
nicole jackson I didn't say he still didn't have fans. That was very evident when thousands came to support him outside the courthouse during his 2005 molestation trial, and millions more around the globe held vigils. I was talking about his health. He was abusing prescription drugs and was often ill, and I don't think he would've had the stamina to sustain the 10 concerts in London and the planned consequent shows in Paris, New York City and Mumbai (India), especially since he hadn't done anything as grueling since his HIStory World Tour 12 years before. Incidentally, one of the reasons why MJ's London shows sold out was because he hadn't toured in over a decade, and people were excited to see him perform again.
😭😭😭Michael why did you have too go we love and miss you R.I.P Michael Jackson The King of Pop forever in my heart ❤👑😭 but i am glad you r in a better place without any controversy💖💞💕

Ok umm no I don't agree with your list. First off, Michael Jackson (although he was a great artist) was well past his prime. And you left out so many amazingly talented artists like Bob Marley, Elvis, and Bradley Nowell, who didn't even make it on the honorable mentions list. The list should have gone: 1. Jimi Hendrix 2. Buddy Holly 3. Bob Marley 4. Elvis 5.John Lennon 6. Bradley Nowell 7. Kurt Cobain 8. Ian Curtis 9. Amy Whinehouse 10. Tupac/Biggie Michael Jackson is not on the list because he was well past his prime, sorry. You could make the argument that elvis was too but he didnt make it to 50 like mj
Tupac and biggie shouldve been higher they where in their flow, making rap songs so powerfull and great and keep on getting better come one pac 25 big 25.
Hoodie boi we will give you Kanye, Jacob Sartorius, and whoever else you want, for Jimi back. Since Jimi is too godly, he requires many people to be sacrificed.
Where is Selena Quintanilla - Perez, The Queen of Tejano Music, who accomplished more in less than 24 years than most artists have in their entire careers, and is the only female musical artist in history to have 5 albums on the charts simultaneously? No mention of her? Seriously?
Ya I definitely agree where is the queen of tejano at she amazing even to this day she still is loved and missed and adored and cherished by pretty much everyone💔💔💔💔💟💟💟💞💗💖💚💜🙀😿😻😻😻😭😪😚😖😔😌😫😓😍😍😍😍😍😞😳😩😧
***** and he died while writing a funeral mass. He didn't manage to finish it so it sort of became his own. It is a stunnig piece of music. You can't really be much more in your prime when you die.
crazymango a) WatchMojo couldn't possibly research the entire history of music and every possible permutation of this list would miss musicians that are important to someone b) these musicians are mostly well known and appreciated by their audience.
I haven’t watched this so I’ll guess. Jimi Hendrix, Elvis, Freddie Mercury, Selena, Whitney Houston, chuck berry, frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, and John Lennon. Edit: so I am done watching this and, why no Elvis, Frank Sinatra, and Selena not on this and why is Michael Jackson so low on the list?
Selena, Valentin, Sergio, Ariel, and Tito aren't on the list because Latinos don't exist in WatchMojo. Same reason Blood in blood out didn't make the top ten gangster movies list. It's just a general pattern of snubs we've all gotten used to by now.
Ethan well maybe Because he was pretty much done with his career if he would have never died than this is it would probably have been his farewell to the music industry
I am glad you put Freddie Mercury, Muchael Jackson, Buddy Holly, Jim Morrison, John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix and Jeff Buckley on the list, but where is Elvis Presley?
compared to other artists, who lived a full and long life, yes he died WAY too soon. one of the greatest country artist of all time died in his 80's. MJ died at 51, which is middle aged in todays culture. also lets not forget he was one of the greatest pop singers EVER. to NOT put him on this list would be an insult
thelastspartanS117 For the list they were going off of peak of career. His peak was way before he died. Is it sad he died at 51? Yes. But everyone before him was younger and still rising up or at their peak still when they died.
MRMONKEY232 pretty sure freddie mercury was not at his peak nor that much younger than MJ. also several of these people killed themselves or ODed on drugs (MJ ODed but that was a mistake of prescriptions from his doctor) MJ's death was sudden, unexpected and all around tragic. more than enough reason to put him on this list
There are so many musicians who passed away too soon, I'm not gonna lie, when I saw this video, I thought of Freddie immediately, but there are also other musicians. I just noticed how many comments are talking about Freddie
Was thinking the exact same thing! Bon Scott should've easily been here! I understand that southern rock is a less popular genre worldwide but RVZ and Steve Gaines also should've been here
CHAOS GAMING and elvis. Elvis was 42 and MJ was 50. How come elvis didn't at least get an honorable mention? Why did they put MJ(a guy who was far past his prime)over Otis Redding(a 26 year old man with the voice of an angel)?
An updated list should include Stevie Ray Vaughan, Selena, Bob Marley, Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke, Janis Joplin, Eva Cassidy, Robert Johnson, Mama Cass Elliot, Dolores O'Riordan, Aaliyah, Adam Yauch, Sid Vicious, Christina Grimmie, etc
Not sure why they didn't make the list. I was expecting Aaliyah to be on it myself. Was actually rather disappointed to not see her on the list when I saw Micheal Jackson and Whitney Houston on there... Don't get me wrong, both amazing artist, but both well into the twilights of their careers.
WatchMojo.com here's what should've been the top 10: 10.) Kurt Cobain of Nirvana 9.) Whitney Houston 8.) Selena 7.) Cliff Burton of Metallica 6.) John Lennon of The Beatles 5.) Michael Jackson 4.) 1/2 of original members of Lynyrd Skynyrd 3.) Freddy Mercury of Queen 2.) Elvis 1.) Hendriks Honorable Mentions: Ronnie James Dio, "Left Eye" of TLC, Randy Rhodes of Ozzy's band, Notorious B.I.G., Jeff Hermaine of SLAYER

(1972-1997), Tupac Shakur (1971-1996), Whitney Houston (1963-2012), Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791).
r1234 yeah, specially over MJ and Whitney, who lived to middle-age (50 and 48, respectively) and had lengthy musical careers since their twenties (since childhood for MJ). This list was supposed to be about promising musicians who died young and just as their careers were getting started. Aaliyah and Selena certainly fit the bill; MJ and Houston, not so much. But WatchMojo always breaks their own rules. See it on every video they make.
musicaltheatergeek79 Yes, I noticed that. MJ and Whitney still died too soon but they both still had long careers. These women were still in their early 20s when they died. So sad they didn't even make it into the honorable mentions.
Colin Finch Mostlythinkihave Since when are entertainers not musicians? Aaliyah and Selena were SINGERS. Singer = Musician. Besides MJ was an entertainer and he was on the list. So?? Yeah.....
George Harrison, John Bonham, Linda McCartney, John Lennon, Malcom Young, Freddie Mercury, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Tom Petty, Buddy Holly, and Jim Croce. That is my list.
This list is one hell of a cheat. MJ was 50 when he passed, Freddie Mercury was 45. Lennon was 40. Sure that is relatively young compared to my Great Grandfather. Still, if you list those 2, you have to list Elvis who was only 42, Marvin Gaye 44 and John Denver 43. And sorry, no way do Ian Curtis and Jeff Buckley make the Top 10 or even Honorable mention when so many greats are ignored. My List and how old they were when they passed.Buddy Holly tops my list because of how much he had accomplished and talk about young! 1. Buddy Holly 22 2. Jim Morrison 27 3. Kurt Cobain 27 4. Jimi Hendrix 27 5. Janis Joplin 27 6.Tupac Shakur 25 and Biggie Smalls 25 7. Sam Cooke 33 8.Jim Croce 30 9. Patsy Cline 30 10. Amy Winehouse 27 Honorable Mentions Otis Redding 35 Stevie Ray Vaughan Bob Marley 36
+matt bush You're right Bon Scott deserves to be mentioned. He definitely makes it on talent although ACDC didn't miss a beat after he died. But I think his age makes him an honorable mention. I had a damn hard time not having Stevie Ray in my top 10 but he was 35.

Shelby Eagleson buddy Holly for me. I sill can't take in the fact that he died in a stupid plane crash cause the pilot was stupid enough to take off even tough he knew the weather conditions were way too bad >;(. Which they were considering that the plane crashed around 2-3 minutes after flight...
And Mj and Elvis
YEAH YOU BETTER PUT FREDDIE ON THAT LIST
Exactly what I said ✋✋✋
BTW those are high fives👍👍👍
Should have been #1
FUCK YEAH
I love Queen you rock!
@@bidybadmoose7840 He lived older than most on the list and already released all his shitty music. Hendrix and Cobain are the real losses.
Ummmm how is Elvis not on this list? He was only 42 and the biggest star in the world at one point
William McCollom Yes thank you!
That's true
I was wondering the same thing
Michael jackson was
@@appyappy5196 MJ was the big star after Elvis died

What about Cliff Burton and Bon Scott?
Haha yeah dead right man
they were good i. there respective bands but xome on everone o. this list was huggggge
+onwerslament Nah, Bon and Cliff both died in their 20's, many people in the list died way older.
SigmaTV Actually Bon Scott died at age 33.
+RazorRex Bon Scott is a good one
How could they "forget" to at least mention Janis Joplin!
Dom Xem who is janis
Seriously?? MJ and Houston had long careers. Joplin and others fit here better than they do
Takerfan4ever303 nah Michael jackson still had a lot left in him and undertaker sucks......
nicole jackson No, MJ was past his prime.
Bru
Jeff Buckley's cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" gives me the chills.
I was glad to see him on here. He's too often overlooked.
It appears in criminal minds
Stevie Ray Vaughan. Love that man. He got taken way too soon and I'm surprised he wasn't at least an honorable mention.
Bee Whistler agreed
Bee Whistler I was hoping somebody would mention him
Life by the drop
Stevie Ray Vaughan - Third Stone From The Sun
First time I saw it my jaw fell off...
Here goes...Bon Scott, Keith Moon, George Harrison, David Bowie, Rick Parfitt, Sid Vicious, Joe Strummer and John Bonham.
Don't forget Dimebag Darrel and Cliff Burton.
Calling Sid Vicious a musician is quite a stretch.
George Harrison was older than 50
Eric Carr too!
😭😭😭Michael why did you have too go we love and miss you R.I.P Michael Jackson The King of Pop forever in my heart ❤👑😭 but i am glad you r in a better place without any controversy💖💞💕

Ned D. Where's Aaliyah & Selena Quintanilla?
PussycatDolls Fanatic I haven't heard of either of them.
Ned D. BTW Aaliyah Is An R&B Singer Known For Songs Like Try Again More Than A Woman Are You That Somebody Back & Forth One In A Million Rock The Boat (Her Last Song Before She Died) & Miss U (Tribute Song To Her) & Appeared In Movies Like Romeo Must Die & Queen Of The Damned (Which Was Released 6 Months After Her Death)
Selena Is The Queen Of Tejano Music A.K.A Mexican Madonna, If You Wanna Fully Know Them
Watch Movies Aaliyah: Princess Of R&B & Selena (1997) (BTW Jlo Is Actually Playing As The Late Mexican Singer Herself) Or Do Your Research On Both Of Them
I Don't Think You Don't Listen To That Much R&B Or Latin Music
I don't listen to any Latin music but I enjoy some R&B.
Ned D. That's Nice 😆
John Lennon, Freddie Mercury, Kurt Cobain, Michael Jackson ❤️❤️
Cliff burton lived like 25 years that's way to short and he wasn't even in honorable mentions
Caleb Gunkle he's probably only not here because he was bassists. A great one too. But yeah he should've been here
yea most of these people were pop stars that lived 50 years when cliff lived 25 and was amazing
Was just gonna add him until I saw this. He would have had such an influence if he had more time!
Caleb Gunkle died at 24 in the fall of '86
yea around 25
Ok umm no I don't agree with your list. First off, Michael Jackson (although he was a great artist) was well past his prime. And you left out so many amazingly talented artists like Bob Marley, Elvis, and Bradley Nowell, who didn't even make it on the honorable mentions list. The list should have gone:
1. Jimi Hendrix
2. Buddy Holly
3. Bob Marley
4. Elvis
5.John Lennon
6. Bradley Nowell
7. Kurt Cobain
8. Ian Curtis
9. Amy Whinehouse
10. Tupac/Biggie
Michael Jackson is not on the list because he was well past his prime, sorry. You could make the argument that elvis was too but he didnt make it to 50 like mj
Brad Nowell, most definitely. Sid Viscious, Aaliyah, Janis, etc.
Dirk Andrew
Add Shannon Hoon to that list as well...
Michael Jackons prime would have lasted for ever
you're missing jeff Buckley he was beyond great
Tupac and biggie shouldve been higher they where in their flow, making rap songs so powerfull and great and keep on getting better come one pac 25 big 25.
Michael Jackson and Freddie mercury RIP 😭
Micheal had a short life he was my favorite singer ever god bless him RIP the king of pop
I was going to actually scream if Freddy Mercury wasn’t on here.
Flying Phoenix I’m gonna scream if one more person spells it “Freddy” and not “Freddie”

Flying Phoenix me too

Yvonne Holden sammeee
Same hes the best singer in my opinion 😭
John lennon
dear god we will give you Jacob sartotius if you bring us Kurt Cobain back
Hoodie boi no. Kurt cobain is worth WAY more than a whining 12 year old.
Hoodie boi we will give you Kanye, Jacob Sartorius, and whoever else you want, for Jimi back. Since Jimi is too godly, he requires many people to be sacrificed.
No offence but Kurt chose to finish off his life then why kill people based on the type of songs they make
Hoodie boi halle-fucking-uja
Hoodie boi we should give them mc melody for michael back
Where is Selena Quintanilla - Perez, The Queen of Tejano Music, who accomplished more in less than 24 years than most artists have in their entire careers, and is the only female musical artist in history to have 5 albums on the charts simultaneously? No mention of her? Seriously?
Ya I definitely agree where is the queen of tejano at she amazing even to this day she still is loved and missed and adored and cherished by pretty much everyone💔💔💔💔💟💟💟💞💗💖💚💜🙀😿😻😻😻😭😪😚😖😔😌😫😓😍😍😍😍😍😞😳😩😧

I guess W.A Mozart, pillar of classical and modern music, just wasn't 'cool' enough to mention as a founding father, was he ?
Exactly my thought.
***** didn't die in his prime ? are you kidding me ? he died at 35 ! How is that not in his prime !
***** and he died while writing a funeral mass. He didn't manage to finish it so it sort of became his own. It is a stunnig piece of music. You can't really be much more in your prime when you die.
***** I know,, it's outrageous, but I guess classical music just isn't cool enough for them....
crazymango a) WatchMojo couldn't possibly research the entire history of music and every possible permutation of this list would miss musicians that are important to someone
b) these musicians are mostly well known and appreciated by their audience.
R.I.P to these iconic musicians❤️ Mikey we love yaa😭❤️
Ac/dcs bon Scott anyone
For sure mate!
Totally wtf wmj

if Jimmy Hendrix, John Lennon and Freddie Mercury did not die classic rock would still be on top
Agreed
Yeah, but sadly they did
Agreed.
Don't forget John Bonham. Led Zeppelin would dominate if it wasn't for his untimely death.
***** actually before his death there were large discussions among the Beatles to get back together
Frank Sinatra was like in his 80’s man he was very old. But I agree Michel Jackson should be higher.
How the fuck didn’t you guess Kurt Cobain
Elvis died on the shitter all fat
I am glad you put Freddie Mercury, Muchael Jackson, Buddy Holly, Jim Morrison, John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix and Jeff Buckley on the list, but where is Elvis Presley?
Hank Williams died at 29, Stevie Ray Vaughan died at 35. They died way too early.
OP Alaraasakka I agree. Where’s SRV on this list?
Ritchie Valenzuela died at 17 years old and also Buddy Holly died at 22 years old that's way more earlier I'm sorry if I disrespected you in any way
EZc p0intZ
SRV is the best blues player to ever grace the earth
MJ made music for almost 4 decades, I don't think he died too soon
Correct, he had a long fruitful Career.. he didn't die to soon, nor did he die too late.... it'd be like saying Elvis died too soon..
compared to other artists, who lived a full and long life, yes he died WAY too soon. one of the greatest country artist of all time died in his 80's.
Finally someone who has the same opinion as me.
Rest In Peace Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington ❤️
There are so many musicians who passed away too soon, I'm not gonna lie, when I saw this video, I thought of Freddie immediately, but there are also other musicians. I just noticed how many comments are talking about Freddie
WHAT ABOUT LYNYRD SKYNYRD? AND BON SCOTT!
You know Lynyrd Skynyrd wasn’t an actual member of the band, right?
Grunt Macleen all the important members like zan vant died in the plane crash so basically the band died when he did
Ronnie zan vant
Was thinking the exact same thing! Bon Scott should've easily been here! I understand that southern rock is a less popular genre worldwide but RVZ and Steve Gaines also should've been here
CHAOS GAMING and elvis. Elvis was 42 and MJ was 50. How come elvis didn't at least get an honorable mention? Why did they put MJ(a guy who was far past his prime)over Otis Redding(a 26 year old man with the voice of an angel)?
1980 was a bad year ...... John Lennon and John Bonham died and Christina Aguilera and Kim Kardashian was born
Weirdo Reborn Bon Scott died that year too
also Ian Curtis died :(
i like you even more after seeing that Cream was your picture
Weirdo Reborn Christina Aguilera isn't THAT bad. Kim Kardashian is HORRIBLE though.
Bon Scott died in 1980 to
An updated list should include Stevie Ray Vaughan, Selena, Bob Marley, Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke, Janis Joplin, Eva Cassidy, Robert Johnson, Mama Cass Elliot, Dolores O'Riordan, Aaliyah, Adam Yauch, Sid Vicious, Christina Grimmie, etc
Sid Vicious? He didn't have enough rhythm to masturbate let alone play bass in any band.

David Bowie? Prince? Johnny Cash? George Michael? Bon Scott? and of course Michael Hutchence.
David Waldie Johnny Cash lived a long life.
Eric Carr?
Cash was like 70 something, and Bowie and Prince weren't young.
This video was made in 2014. Bowie, Prince and Michael died 2 years after
Prince, Bowie, and George were still alive when this came out
What no mention of Aaliyah or Selena ?
They were really young and better than most artists today.
Totally agree...
+Swagmoney Troll So true
I'm liking all the comments mentionning Cliff Burton...
Lane Staley definitely should have been on this list easily best vocalists in grunge
U know damn rightly ppl disagree on that
Elvis Presley??!?!??
Josef Conner just what I was thinking
@Chuck Buskee Then why the hell is MJ on this list considering his career was even further past his peak than Elvis'?

Janis Joplin? Not even mentioned?

lovely dreamer true but i guess they just thought that would add all of them
Daniel Playz Games yea true
Elvis was past his Prime so he wouldn't count
John Bonham wasn't even an honourable mention? He's basically the greatest drummer of all time. No offence, Neil Peart.
exactly.
Yes
Watch Mojo doesn’t care about popular acts that are actually good.
Cam The man shut up fool
ELLIOTT SMITH
Selena and Aaliyah should have been on this list.
r1234 yeah, specially over MJ and Whitney, who lived to middle-age (50 and 48, respectively) and had lengthy musical careers since their twenties (since childhood for MJ).
So sad they didn't even make it into the honorable mentions.
r1234 It's a top ten 10 musicians. Not entertainers.
Colin Finch Mostlythinkihave Since when are entertainers not musicians? Aaliyah and Selena were SINGERS. Singer = Musician. Besides MJ was an entertainer and he was on the list. So?? Yeah.....
r1234 Micheal Jackson is the king of pop. No one remembers your shitty urban artists, twenty years from now.
George Harrison, John Bonham, Linda McCartney, John Lennon, Malcom Young, Freddie Mercury, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Tom Petty, Buddy Holly, and Jim Croce. That is my list.
Uhmm Tom Petty died when he was 66?
Elvis?
Hendrix is by far number 1. But they should've had Bon Scott, John Bonham and Cliff Burton on the list
They should've had Dimebag on the list as well
Grant Jarnagin And Elvis
Along with Randy Rhoads
And Duane Allman
RIP Freddie mercury
F.
Freddie
The best singer to me 😭😭😭❤
This list is one hell of a cheat.
1. Buddy Holly 22
2. Jim Morrison 27
3. Kurt Cobain 27
4. Jimi Hendrix 27
5. Janis Joplin 27
6.Tupac Shakur 25 and Biggie Smalls 25
7. Sam Cooke 33
8.Jim Croce 30
9. Patsy Cline 30
10. Amy Winehouse 27
Honorable Mentions
Otis Redding 35
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Bob Marley 36
I think your reasoning proves an excellent point, and your list is much better than theirs
You forgot about Cliff Burton
+Jose Jacobo Sorry, forgot. He should make the list. Bye bye Amy. I'd be tempted to dump Sam Cooke because he was 33, but I just can't.
So dont forget Bon Scott of AC/DC he was 33 when he died
+matt bush You're right Bon Scott deserves to be mentioned. He definitely makes it on talent although ACDC didn't miss a beat after he died. But I think his age makes him an honorable mention. I had a damn hard time not having Stevie Ray in my top 10 but he was 35.
8:59 how are we gonna mention buddy holly but not ritchie valens ?
yonizo2 ikr
For real
