Ok once again, NOT A TIER LIST! Just, looking at who seems a big stronger than the rest right now. Someone like hitman seems a bit strong cause well... his options are so braindead in awakening, versus someone like Striker seems strong cause she can do Vanguards entire gimmick better than he can! So lemme know what you think, and also let me know who you think is particularly strong(or weak) right now here in the early stages of DnF Duels life!
Striker absolutely cannot guard break you better than Vanguard. I think there are a few things people still haven't quite internalized, but Striker has moves that are safe to guard cancel for everyone every time. Vanguard does not. Once Vanguard has you in a blockstring you have to sit there and take it. The moment Striker clicks 5S or jump 5S you automatically guard cancel if you have the mana. That doesn't mean she's not good, though. Her divekick is extremely dumb, she has free corner carry from everywhere and her DP can be made safe on block (although it's too vertical and it doesn't cancel on whiff, so I don't think it's broken). You can absolutely zone her out and break free from her pressure, though. People are a bit stuck on mana management, which here is trivial, and a bit hesitant to guard cancel because it feels expensive, but the game gives you mana back immediately, so Striker pressure isn't about how long she can spam moves, it's about how well she can stagger and avoid going into one of the safe moves to counter. Vanguard's weakness is his bad DP, I think. You mostly just duck as close to him as possible and wait for him to whiff it. And the fact that he's a zoner without fullscreen moves sucks. Another thing that makes this exercise hard is that this game is full of rock paper scissor matchups. I've been spending time with Launcher and... yeah, she's pretty weak, but she absolutely smothers Berserker. He basically has no recourse against her other than hoping for a good roll. Vanguard is good against Striker, because she has no projectile, but he sucks against fullscreen zoners that can punish his big slow normals. I also don't think Grappler is weak at all. He struggles against some characters, but he has crazy damage from anything. I think he's harder to play than people think from his kit, but he's definitely not bad. I think my bottom tier right now is probably Launcher and Vanguard. Enchantress is probably strong, but definitely a tryhard character. Swift Master is very good and I think Crusader sans infinite is less overwhelming than people think.
@@mademedothis424 did you watch the video? cause uh, striker absolutely can guardbreak you better than vanguard, its right there in the video lol. Show me vanguard with zero resources no trait enemy corner breaking the enemy. Guard cancel only can happen the one time, and thats only if you got the mana at that moment.
@@Rooflemonger I'm gunna try and be generous here, but since when can GC only happen the one time? It's not burst. You can do it anytime you have 100 mana, and no one can spend your mana but you. It's like complaining you can't YRC out of the Eddie mix because you just spent 100 bar on RC Pressure in Guilty Gear. The slowest natural mana regen in the game is 12/s and you gain MORE back by attacking. If you cannot keep the rushdown character off of you once, GC and take the L there, but if you somehow cannot keep her off you for AT MOST 8 seconds (remember, she has to regenerate the mana back to use this as well) for a second time then you probably deserve to get hit. AND she will still have to do it 2-3 more times depending on her opponent's healthpool -- she's not chunking anyone for 60% with 100 mana like Swiftmaster or Grappler. As far as your beef with her being better at breaking guard than Vanguard, ok, sure, maybe some numbers could be adjusted. But not really sure why there can't be two characters that specialize in guardbreaking, especially when their archetypes are so different with their own aesthetics, strengths, weaknesses, and gameplans, and unless you have been given divine balancing knowledge from the FGC gods one will always be better at the other at such a specific niche.
@@WhiteKnuckleRide512 Maybe, but it can also lead to a fun, crazy game with a vastly different feel to most other games. It's not like we're starved for meticulously balanced and reserved fighting games.
@@Orrenn yeah the FGC will always complain. Strive is "simple" and actually try to balance by nerf/buffs => Game's boring WE WANT CRAZY SHIT. DNF is "Crazy Shit" => NO THAT"s BROKEN WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS. Bruh... I just enjoy both game. Looking for balance and approval from gamers is just pain. I really feel bad for devs sometimes
Swift Master is the most broken character in the game, his only negative is his health, which is irrelevant because a good Swift Master won't let you hit him anyway.
@@manuiatavake-shafer3954 As someone who plays around floor 10 of Strive, A rank in Melty etc.. I cannot get past Bronze 1 with swift for the freaking life of me. I've never struggled with a game as much as I have this one. Don't know what I'm missing.
@@ProfKisuto Man, this is such a thing in this game. You have to deprogram so many things from other games that look similar but REALLY aren't. I was struggling to get close to people with Striker for a bit until I stopped, watched some competitive play online and started noticing how things work.
I still can't believe that INQUISITOR has the same health as Swift Master. It makes absolutely no sense to me, especially when, even if she had average health, her toolkit feels middling at best. It feels so weird to gimp a character with not huge range, almost literally 0 mix, average damage, and slow buttons by stacking the lowest health in the game on TOP of all of that. I just have no idea what they want that character to do
@@Dark-xy6vu I think it's less that her cons outweigh her pros and more that she has almost literally no pros over any other character you can pick. The only unique thing she has going for her is like, the wheel obviously, but it's still not even close to the best move in the game, and certainly doesn't make up for ALL her faults
Another later in the day upload, sorry about that blame it on youtube processing lol. Sometimes the ol' beat is finnicky and just sits there for hours and hours. Maybe some character specific videos(besides combos) soon? I don't know yet but for the striker section of the video the example I shown is just one of many possible ones, and there's a lot more to talk about. I picked about as catch-all as a sequence as I could just to showcase the guard break power.
It’s wild that Striker has risen to the top. If you told me the melee range character would be top tier after showing me the full screen normals every character has I would never believe you.
im learning with inquisitor and a lot of people in the DNF Discord are calling for her buffs. Like her damage is not very high and such while having only 850 health
As someone who uses inquisitor, she needs buffs. Not sure if it's damage, speed, range or giving her a hit of armor on attacks tho. Most of the cast has at least one or two moves that out range anything she does and unlike grappler her tools to get in don't have armor so she ends up having a harder time getting in than grappler does. Her damage seems fine, at times it can seem low but thats because characters in this game have varying amounts of health, I wouldn't mind if she did more damage to the block Guage, force the opponent to make a gamble more often as opposed to just blocking everything and waiting. I mean part of her gimmick is she locks you down so it should be something the opponent wants to avoid not a mild inconvenience they can just wait out.
@@copilots3159 i have felt the exact same way. She just doesnt get in against the big buttons this game has, even on block i found it really hard to open up people.
she doesnt need buffs her pressure is disguting, her damage is disgusting, her ability to convert off of anything is crazy too. The only problem is she just doesnt get to apply her damage
@@lord6992 That's the other thing, most of this cast feels like they're plus when they block inquisitor. Idk if the devs were scared to make her better because of her air special, which isn't nearly as safe as you think it is the first time you see it.
Interesting video, I've seen already a couple of tier lists but none analize why the top tiers are that strong the way you do, it would be amazing another video but with the weaker ones.
Swift Master seems to be the undisputed tier 0, Hitman and Striker are also always top tier or right behind top tier. I'm curious to see where Enchantress ends up since people tend to play easier characters more at launch, she looks like she has a lot of potential however. 8:31 FeelsVanguardMan :(
Ranger is definetly up there. Insane zoning, full range Super, decent pressure moves, decent damage if you do some of the advanced combos, good passive and it doesn't seem like he has very many bad match ups.
Eh, his zoning is alright but he really suffers from the system mechanics. Because he can only really zone with his normals, 80% of that zoning damage ends up being white health, and he can’t do any damage on block. It makes it so that even if he snuffs out a few approaches, the enemy can usually just crouch block for a while to get most of it back and there’s not much he can do about it. This gets really bad when they get below 25% health and get awakening. I’ve had more than a few matches where I’ve had to deal with awakened characters with 60% health, and it is not a good time. The range where he actually becomes dangerous (where he can combo into 2h) is really not that much bigger than the effective ranges of most other characters in this game. Maybe most importantly, his defense is just atrocious. He has some good ways to make space, but without spamming reversal he has pretty bad anti air against a lot of characters, and awful oki. Obviously that’s normal for zoners, but in a game with as strong of offense as this one it’s really crippling. He’s definitely not bad, but once people learn the match up, and it’s pretty’s straight forward to learn, he’s going to be a lot more even.
It's probably a thing in alot of fighting games but strikers divekick into instant low is such bullshit. So tricky to block and leads to like +50% combos yeesh!
if she does a high/not so deep divekick she can cancel into a gapless overhead j.a which IS super hard to block but if she's making you block high divekicks like that all of the time you can almost certainly reaction DP it.
Im kinda sad that you skipped over crusader as i really think he might be the best character atm ignoring the infinite He has a TRACKING, ANTI AIRING, +5 OB , 5-7 FRAME STARTUP (Correct me on this) ON DEMAND CORNER THAT HE CAN COMBO OFF OF Also the spear that is faster than light and a fuck ton of + OB moves And don't get me started on his install He can control your movement with just the sheer presence of the wall as if the crusader smells you moving he can just throw the wall down and at worst be +5 I do not hate the character tho because the memes are really funny and i am completely open to discussion if you think otherwise about the characters strength
I remember watching Sajam try him out and I remember him just laughing at how funny the character was, my guy spent about 2-3 minutes in training with Crusader and was still doing good 💀
Striker is the only character that i absolutely can't stand right now. You block a single button and all your options are gone, now you're just choosing when to guard cancel
I would be interested to hear about lost warrior's place in the game. I'm intending to get the game in a month or so and he is the character that calls to me (other than vanguard T_T). Once the game has been out a bit longer I think it would be cool to get some analysis on match ups and how that will influence character selection (main + secondary).
He can be rushed down hard, but if the opponent slips up once or you get that lucky hit in, he can capitalize on it for such a huge amount of damage. One of the more "realistic" as far as getting ToDs with.
Swift Master is undisputed top 1. I've never liked the argument that low health balances a character out. Akuma is famously frail but has been top-tier like a million times. Low health doesn't matter when a character has more options than everybody else and hits like a truck.
It can but can't be the ONLY negative. Chipp for example is not only low health, but also low range and above average execution. Even Akuma has other things besides his low health depending on the game except the earliest ones. Personally If I were to nerf Swift Master, I would decrease his attack range or make them more of a commitment (increase recovery, less safety on shield etc), decrease his orbs pulling range or at least it's duration, nerf 5B and make him spend more meter. Doing some these changes would make him more reasonable I think
Hey Roofle, or anyone that knows the answer to this can answer too! Does anyone know if you can drop guard in Striker's block strings? If you could that could be another form of counter play at higher hp if you don't have 100 mana
Before we had Swift Master with his Wind Orbs, we had Kokonoe with her Gravitons in Blazblue: Chronophantasma! :3 I learned that she was ranked #1 best character when she was first introduced, thanks to her ability to manipulate her enemy's movement as well as having a plethora of tools at her disposal! As such, she got nerfed in a emergency patch but was still #1. By Central Fiction, she got nerfed further so that she's no longer in the top, but she's still a strong character thanks to her tools!
People are still sleeping on Berserker HARD. He can crack down the whole game with his health loss/regain skill and passive. His poke game is good as well and can ditch out a LOT of damage.
My experience with Enchantress has lead me to realize, once people see how she plays (against her in a match) she becomes pretty easily readable. Her having to plant her feet (cause no offensive air MP moves) and use full screen to advantage for neutral /so far/ makes rolling most of her moves very easy. The only other way she can be unpredicatble AND safe is to utilize her bear explosion or her big string attack. I really hope some more tech for her shows up and adds another layer over what ive learned.
Its nuts how crazy some of the stuff in this game is, feels like I'm back in the arcades, watching some unbalanced stuff between kids just mashing buttons. I'mma be real tho, in the right hands every character looks absolutely broken. The true sign of an 8ing game, and I LOVE it lol
@@entropy7705 oddly enough; as "fair" as he can be (in comparison to the rest of the cast);, I've seen him blow people up from full screen as well. lol
So listen you can cancel swift masters negative edge into forward special for a full combo js. Also with wind orb up you can strike throw like crazy if it's pulling them towards you
me tries to get into Samurai Shodown: *picks Kyoshiro* Me tries to get into Injustice 2 *picks swampthing* Me tries to get into DNF Duel *Picks vanguard* ... Am i cursed? Please let me know. Every 2d fighting game i try to get into it seems like i always end up with lower tier characters. Wtf xd
Vanguard's whole gimmick is long range and guard breaking yet he's the worst at both which is sad. Hit man, Ghostblade and Berserker have the same range as him AND can guard break much easier with 10x better awakening abilities.
It might be the next video actually cause there is some detail to it. Its more than just hte moves you see on the screen as what also matters is when you cancel certain moves
As soon as the game came out I only been playing as Striker because I love how she plays. I was always into character who are up close and to me that feels more like a fighting character. I’m still learning as I haven’t been playing everyday, but I’m starting to get more combos down. My weakness with her are fighting against range characters which is kinda like the default weakness when it comes to rush down characters, but I know once I know for sure their move sets then I can avoid them more easily. But the one character I hate is Ranger. NGL he’s cool with his moves and all but damnit sometimes I can’t touch him lol
I'm not even sure vanguard's gimmick is guard break, I mean, he has no practical way to set-up a guard break because he needs awakening and grey life to guard break you. His actual gimmick is that he has to work way harder than most of the cast to get anything going
his awakening hints at his gimmick being guard break, but he just doesn't do it as well as striker atm. Idk what they would need to do to make him stronger, but I hope the devs lean more towards buffs than nerfs for the overall cast
200 matches with Vanguard, I managed to get a good guard break maybe five times. It's not an effective gimmick, and quite frankly, it's /alright/ when it happens, hardly match-winning.
Hello I was wondering if this game is worth it I’ve been watching your videos and this looks fun as hell but it also looks like there’s alooooot of jank should I wait for a sale or just go for it lol
i will never not laugh at all the constant downplaying that was happening during the beta for striker. I played her for both betas and had to listen to people who claimed to main her whine about how "she does no damage" "has no mix" "cant get in". AND HERE WE ARE. I don't care if she now has a stigma for being an unga character. This is my main and I'm happy to have been right. That infinite needs to go though and vanguard should maybe get a buff its legit not fair that he doesn't have as good guard break when that's his gimmick.
@@666slateran666 there’s a difference between. “I picked up this character and am having problems doing well” and “this character has problems doing well”. A lot of people claimed the latter after the betas. But suddenly their real quiet after full release.
I can not get that striker guard break to work. It's probably just that I suck, but she is wildly inconsistent when I use her. Sometimes things leave no gaps, sometimes there are. Seems random.
its not inconsistent its just a lot of matters of timing, like knowing when to early cancel, and when to late cancel. I struggled myself until I learned the specifics. Maybe I will give it its own video.
I was using swift master but i'm not great with combos so i switched to lost warrior and i seem to get a lot more for a lot less with lost warrior especially against projectile heavy characters.
disagreed, technical but versatile characters are still very strong in the right hands. Take someone like rachel in blazblue, she's technical, but her wind makes her extraordinarily versatile, and she's top tier at the highest level of play
@@emeraldmann1329 I think you misunderstood my statement. A character thats very versatile that can do weak damage, but combo your whole life bar requires skill, yes. But one that hits hard without necessarily doing combos just to bring your lifebar to half off of 2 or 3 hits is one that can win just by getting some lucky hits in. Does that make more sense? In skilled hands, the fight will be over before it starts.
Love your content my good sir. I'd recommend you check Maximilian for top trouble shooter play, punk da God for berserker, Uri for top kunoichi chick play. That'll give you more insight on them for a better comparison. Those are also very strong. Inquisiter is also kinds broken and dragon knight can 1 combo k.o in awakening
Being a ghostblade main is tough when everyone else has a dp, wake up option, or just runs you over. I might learn a secondary character so I can learn how the rest of the cast lives, but oh boy is it rough out here
I agree with your picks. Swift Master is a no-brainer but Striker at the least has mediocre neutral buttons and Hitman is a straightforward character until he hits Awakening and skips neutral with DP mash. Even without the infinite, Crusader has godlike neutral tools like the orb, wall, and air spear (the big hammers have tons of recovery). Berserker also has some nasty blockstrings with Frenzy Conversion. I’ve also seen Lost Warrior steam rolling people but I’m not too sure about him. I feel like Kunoichi and Enchantress have the potential to be strong too with more time. I main Kunoichi and her combos not only carry you from one end of the screen to the other but proper tornado oki has 0 counter play other than Kunoichi herself running out of MP. You can’t DP it, you can’t roll through it, and you can’t Guard Cancel it, you’ll just have to guess correctly on the double overhead/overhead into low 4S mix-up during tornado oki lockdown.
King of Neutrals Ghostblade 6S Just goes through gaps and shennanigans Grappler,Launcher,Ranger,Crus Kizzie Kay proved this recently wiped ChrisG dragonknight and LoneKnights Launcher ... the teleports and his range for 5B and 2S make him so deadly Imo he's up there with Hitman , there are gaps in Hitman that Gblade can go through as well. Swiftmaster will just make you Get SCHWIFTYYYY But tbh tiers are just the heirarchy of so little difference of the characters can do in an actual match... the comeback mechanic makes this game so hype like it was tekken on low life scenarios Watching it can get an audience in the edge of their seats
I just bought guilty gear then this came out. What game do you think will have more players on it. Cause I’m looking for a competitive game that’s still new and has a lot of payers on it.
Been playing for a week and so far I can say the game is fun . Iv been struggling with the zoners a bit so to hear that swift master can counter that is certainly great to hear . (I main ghost , enchant and kuno) striker info is dead on she scares me especially if I touch ghost cause no DP so she can style on me and i think what u said is tru plus for her I play so passively + conserving mp as much to survive . So thanks for the video
With some of Striker combos, you can't even guard cancel under all that pressure though. It's broken against certain characters like Vanguard and his reversals doesn't work because it only hits high and not low. His guard cancels doesn't work against her during certain strings too. You are pretty much screwed unless the player drops or doesnt do the correct combo. She is broken. Troubleshooter is broken too which is another topic
@@phabiorules lol not just Vanguard. Any character and even if it's a bad matchup there should be some universal mechanic to buffer that nonsense l. She has pretty much unlimited pressure.
I got this game a few days ago and I've been digging Ranger and his story as well, but I feel like he is low tier compared to everyone else. From my experience, Striker/Crusader/Inquisitor/Kunoichi and Lost Warrior can just loop you back and forth or pressure the wall on you.
Striker is just as annoying as Happy Chaos to me. Completely different archetypes, but the exact same feeling. You get put into a situation where you have to block and they can continue their pressure so much that your guard will break if don't have the proper resources. I play Vanguard and the Striker matchup feels like hot garbage. I don't like it when you have to use meter to escape pressure. If you're low on resources then Striker has nothing to fear after getting you to block that first hit. I know this game is supposed to be crazy, but some things aren't even fun to play against.
Ain't it great that she can't start it (or do anything for that matter) from anything longer than a meter away from you (unlike a certain guy with a gun)
@@Gamma0_0 yeah just use 100 mana to get her off you only to get put in another blockstring! Better hope you've got another 100 mana on deck. She's plus on almost anything she does and can full combo off a DP. I can hear Strikers mashing buttons like an autist the moment I get into a match with them
@@romanbloomfield9066 Ya know, after seeing some clips of Striker... I saw a Striker do a guard break TOD to a Ghostblade just because he blocked DP, and the poor guy didn't even have enough MP to guard cancel. Even if he _could_ guard cancel, that's too much. This game needs like... _something_ that was found in the game's code to be implemented in a future patch. Desperately lol
Haven't gotten the game yet (planning on it once I have enough spare for me and a friend to both play), but I'm curious where kunoichi will end up. Ninja vortex characters can fluctuate a lot depending on a games defensive tools and their setups.
@@Rooflemonger agreed she's very FAIR which is the worst thing to be in this type of game. Her double jump is neat but risky without air block, her mixup potential is negated by the block button, her damage is lowish, and so on.
I agree with everyone you mentioned. I would personally add Crusader and Kunoichi to the list. Crusader is just cheap and everyone knows why he's cheap. Kunoichi just has the neutral and damage output and the best rushdown in the game imo other than striker.
I don't know. I think Grappler is stronger than people give him credit. Yeah he has to work harder for things that some characters simply don't but I've seen him tear through Wind Master or Hitman in ways that other characters haven't. That TNS DNF Duel tournament was eye opening. Especially that like five second Grappler vs Wind Master fight half way through. Hilarious! Didn't stand a chance 🤣
Yeah I would say grappler is on the lower end. Lower level play he's good but higher level play he's just getting zoned out by fast, long reach characters.
I play grappler his damage output is definitely strong the problem for him is low’s automatically blow thru all of his armor moves. Hitman has a cr low that’s basically full screen lol and he’s definitely not the only one and his parry is only high that adds to the headaches
@@sLo-ug7ls While I agree that the lows ignoring armor at long range is dumb af, if the Grapist doesn't have a crack in his armor, it becomes too strong, because it flat-out removes the ability of many characters to keep him out of their faces. Since that is literally his win-condition, that would make him THE character, in a tier all his own. Idk, maybe the lows should only ignore armor if the distance is closer than a certain range, though idk what range that would be, or if that's even a passable idea.
Great snap shot sir, it will be quite interesting to see how the landscape changes from patch to patch ( knowing Arc Systems, there will be quite a few). Striker has such potential since she has the ability to guard break so well and is able to turn almost anything into combos keeping the opponents guessing every time. Hopefully they will give grappler more inroads and opportunities since he is at such a severe disadvantage for now Very interested to see how this all pans out a few years from now especially after DLC characters are in the mix.
So tired of people saying Hitman is S tier because of his awakening, when he is C tier outside of awakening aka 70% of the time. Make one mistake in awakening and you're dead, and you can even get combo'd 40% to death so you never even get awakening. Just respect his wakeups and he instantly becomes extremely manageable.
If you respect his wakeup, you never get a turn. And the thing is its not about wakeup, he can panic reversal anytime he wants with effectively zero consequence and maximum reward.
I don't know about the strongest (of the three, i'd settle on Swift Master for the better kit) but as for now i'm pretty sure Vanguard and Inquisitor are the weakest.
Yo rooflemonger, that striker GB combo was sick. But, as a person who plays her offline I just want to add that I don't think one combo GBs are that easy/frequent. A lot of her moves if you don't do them at the right time, range, or order will push the opponent too far and cause Striker to whiff. She also should have a tough in neutral bc most characters out range her (w weapon based zoning/white health loss). So, she's still strong, but nowhere near brainless. Her weakness: DPs, weapon based zoning, and guard cancels.
The example I picked was because its pretty universal, its not difficult to land. There's a lot more out there too that you can land in the most suboptimal situations if you have more than just 100 starting mana
@@Rooflemonger Oh well ok then, I've got some more labing to do 😀. I still like the character, but just won't do one touch GBs--unless I fight CPUs. I'm not here to make people rage quit, just fair play.
Being new to playing fgs I picked this game up because they said it was easy to play. But didn't think about the fact that every character is powerful and everyone is just tweaking on me online. Pretty demoralizing.
Just started using vanguard, he is pretty fun for me, he has some decent mix and very good pressure, its very easy to guard break people and if you utilize the games mechanics well vanguard feels very nice and pretty strong. He definitely feels very strong in some matchups
@@Llunatix13 whenever i get a knockdown with him i can threaten overhead into low or just go low or throw, ik vanguard doesnt seem super strong or viable but i get lots of work done with him i also bait people wake ip options on my knockdowns, alot of time i wont run in and i’ll bait their roll with the dive plunge into full combo, he isnt so broken that anyone can just mash buttons on him and win, i ply very patient and bait out unsafe moves and punish them, i hardly ever use vanguard dp and most just wait my turn or use rolls to get out of pressure. Can yall not attack me, i only said he’s fun for me and has some decent tools 🫤🤨 fuckin weirdos bruh
@@timwatkins7113 i have surprising amounts of success against striker, its fairly easy to block her pressure and often you can throw her after a blocked dive kick if she isnt mashing buttons and if you block her string you can punish it easy or dp her dive kick, then once i get a knockdown i mix her to death and she cant do nothing
Personally I feel like a lot of the issues with the game all comes from the ability to do multiple otgs in a combo. I've been enjoying the game a lot but it's really a soul crushing feeling when you hit the ground and think for a second "Ok that didn't do that much damage " then next thing you know you're popped back up and combod for another 200 health.
I agree that Hitman is one of the strongest right now BUT he has problems against zoning, if a Ranger runs away and spam 5A and 2B, I have a hard time getting in, also Rangers slide seems to beat every normal Hitman throws out. And for Hitmans pressure, you can DP in between his 6MS, after he did the "sword uppercut" you can dp before he throws the spinning sword. I think that Crusader is top tier even if they remove the infinite.
since i got the game about a week ago, i main vanguard (sadly to say). i like him and yes HES VERY WEAK!! for me, my weakest with him is the close and the far range combat (zoning). like if i go up against any zoning fighters im screwed like i dont know what to do lik i dont have hyper armor to burst thru (i dont think) or counter the projectiles to stop them from coming instead of me dash thru then block dash thru block. its not fun at all to play vanguard but theres smth in me thats lik "play him and youll be rewarded sooner or later" type of saying. Idk if there are any vanguard mains, PLZZZZ help a spear brother out i want to main him badly.
I would say that this game is super fun, except when I'm fighting a Striker 😅 but that may be my fault for playing Vanguard I just can't seem to get her off of me or defend against her strings. I'm getting really discouraged from this game because whenever I fight a Striker I just... Can't play the game. Any tips from anyone would be great because I'm completely at a loss for the matchup.
I hate swift master, crusader and launcher with every fiber of my being. I went from grappler to vanguard to zerker back to grappler. And some day soon im gonna whiff punish the crap out of those three without fudging up my inputs!!!!!! Vent over! great video have a wonderful day :)
I hope the devs minimize nerfs and maximize buffs for the future of this game. I'm not sure what they would need to do to make Vanguard at least decent, but maybe if they intended Vanguard to be the "guard break guy" then make all of his normals and specials do more damage to guard gauge, maybe that would help a bit.
I'm usually all for buffs over nerfs, but honestly I think I'd rather see Swift Master, Striker, Hitman, and Crusader nerfed alongside buffs for less strong characters. We're just starting off from such a wacky place that only going for buffs risks the game turning into "whoever lands a hit first, even on block, wins the game"
@@ZombieOfun I definitely agree with you on second thought. Swift Master, Striker, and Hitman need to be toned down. Definitely remove the infinite from Crusader and i guess Grappler too. And start handing out buffs to the less powerful characters like Vanguard.
I been having fun on the game lately with crusader i dont do the infinte just keep little fair even lile to trick people im gonna do it but nah but so far the game is fun bad thing is not in evo but still the game is fun to play
This game needs balancing ASAP, it's like if a 5yr old created a fighting game, no thought for game balance just created the strongest most op moves you can and let the chips fall where they may
I think you underestimate most of the cast's ability to keep Striker out. And her reversal has such a narrow hitbox that it's very easy to force it to whiff with how many disjointed hitboxes are in this game.
Obviously Swift Master is the undisputed broken king right now, but for me Hitman is a worse match up than even striker. Maybe it's because I main Kunoichi and it's usually a toss up when i face striker, but with Hitman I just get blitzed
Big Roof! Why does your tier list not have the entire cast?? This is trash!!
Just a little practice to warm you up for later big roof. 💯🤣
R u sure? 😏 owo
I feel like the design philosophy for this game was very much, "If everyone is ridiculous, then no one is, and we find "balance" in the chaos."
Except that’s just a god awful way to balance a game lmao
@@WhiteKnuckleRide512 Maybe, but it can also lead to a fun, crazy game with a vastly different feel to most other games. It's not like we're starved for meticulously balanced and reserved fighting games.

@@ProfKisuto Man, this is such a thing in this game. You have to deprogram so many things from other games that look similar but REALLY aren't. I was struggling to get close to people with Striker for a bit until I stopped, watched some competitive play online and started noticing how things work.
@@ProfKisuto well i mainly used his 5b to whiff punish and use his orb to have a kinda 50/50 overhead low setup and his 5b is lowkey op
I just have no idea what they want that character to do
For real....might as well just play Vanguard at that point.
What fr??
That is fucked up wth i had no idea
I had the same reaction when I found out, I think she just has cosplay armor that's why her health is so low
Seriously it makes no sense. Her cons outweighs her pros 😭
I misread the title as the Shortest Characters in DnF and glowing eyes Striker thumbnail was just perfect.
She does make up for it with her thickness
she doesnt need buffs her pressure is disguting, her damage is disgusting, her ability to convert off of anything is crazy too.
8:31 FeelsVanguardMan :(
I like how Crusader (the guy with the infinite) slipped through the cracks
@@cashbag Someone didn't listen to the video 🙂
Dude somehow your videos relax me and I love it, keep it going
It's probably a thing in alot of fighting games but strikers divekick into instant low is such bullshit. So tricky to block and leads to like +50% combos yeesh!
It is a thing in a lot of fighters, just striker is a bit sassier than how it usually is
@@Rooflemonger hehe, she sure is 😅
strikers divekick isn't an overhead tho so you don't really even necessarily need to block switch
if she does a high/not so deep divekick she can cancel into a gapless overhead j.a which IS super hard to block but if she's making you block high divekicks like that all of the time you can almost certainly reaction DP it.
Im kinda sad that you skipped over crusader as i really think he might be the best character atm ignoring the infinite
He has a TRACKING, ANTI AIRING, +5 OB , 5-7 FRAME STARTUP (Correct me on this) ON DEMAND CORNER THAT HE CAN COMBO OFF OF
Also the spear that is faster than light and a fuck ton of + OB moves
And don't get me started on his install
He can control your movement with just the sheer presence of the wall as if the crusader smells you moving he can just throw the wall down and at worst be +5
I do not hate the character tho because the memes are really funny and i am completely open to discussion if you think otherwise about the characters strength
Also have seen no one try the infinite online or actively go for only infinite cheese. Which is very nice.
I remember watching Sajam try him out and I remember him just laughing at how funny the character was, my guy spent about 2-3 minutes in training with Crusader and was still doing good 💀
Wall is 15f startup. Still one of the best specials ever put in a fighting game.
Where do you think crusader is at post infinite patch? I think he'll stay a very strong character simply because of the wall alone tbh
Lost warrior is mostly agreed to be low tier. Awesome damage and range tho, defence is a problem.
Lost warrior to me is a bit polarizing cause his strong stuff is REALLY STRONG but his frame data is abysmal
@@Rooflemonger Another Secretary of Absolutely no Defense?
He can be rushed down hard, but if the opponent slips up once or you get that lucky hit in, he can capitalize on it for such a huge amount of damage. One of the more "realistic" as far as getting ToDs with.
Thanks for the replies everyone, I appreciate your insight. Have a good one!
Swift Master is undisputed top 1. I've never liked the argument that low health balances a character out. Akuma is famously frail but has been top-tier like a million times. Low health doesn't matter when a character has more options than everybody else and hits like a truck.
Its why Ive always told people for years, the health is a good way to tell the tier. Low health = high tier, high health = low tier.
@@Zevox87 I mean, it clearly can. Chipp would be the best character in every guilty gear game he's in if he had Potemkin's health lmao
Sweatmasters.
What a good vod keep on!
Hey Roofle, or anyone that knows the answer to this can answer too! Does anyone know if you can drop guard in Striker's block strings? If you could that could be another form of counter play at higher hp if you don't have 100 mana
well you can wait for the low and get hit but trust me in that there is very little value in actually taking the hit
Before we had Swift Master with his Wind Orbs, we had Kokonoe with her Gravitons in Blazblue: Chronophantasma! :3
I learned that she was ranked #1 best character when she was first introduced, thanks to her ability to manipulate her enemy's movement as well as having a plethora of tools at her disposal!
I know right! but him trying to contest troubleshooters corner game. Yikes! His worst match up? 🤔
@@emilholst9789 possibly.
His combos also drain a lot of his hp too
He also kills himself with his combos Lmao
My experience with Enchantress has lead me to realize, once people see how she plays (against her in a match) she becomes pretty easily readable. Her having to plant her feet (cause no offensive air MP moves) and use full screen to advantage for neutral /so far/ makes rolling most of her moves very easy. The only other way she can be unpredicatble AND safe is to utilize her bear explosion or her big string attack. I really hope some more tech for her shows up and adds another layer over what ive learned.
Swift Master looks like the most horrifying mashup of Nine with Kokonoe’s Graviton
If anyone has gone up against a Launcher that knows what their doing its hell
Thoughts on Launcher? Curious on what you think about her.
She's solid at what she's supposed to do but a bunch of characters basically don't have to interact with her gameplan.
Its nuts how crazy some of the stuff in this game is, feels like I'm back in the arcades, watching some unbalanced stuff between kids just mashing buttons.

Enchantress is super fun I'd recommend trying her
As soon as the game came out I only been playing as Striker because I love how she plays.
Exactly I rarely get guard breaks with vanguard and when I do I'm too far to convert it into damage. Def needs buffs
200 matches with Vanguard, I managed to get a good guard break maybe five times. It's not an effective gimmick, and quite frankly, it's /alright/ when it happens, hardly match-winning.

i will never not laugh at all the constant downplaying that was happening during the beta for striker.

I was using swift master but i'm not great with combos so i switched to lost warrior and i seem to get a lot more for a lot less with lost warrior especially against projectile heavy characters.
He's definitely great at counter zoning
Stronger = Less skill required being you dont have to damage the opponent as much to win.
Change my mind.
disagreed, technical but versatile characters are still very strong in the right hands.
If enchantress wasnt jail bait I'd probably take the time to learn her lol
Love your content my good sir. I'd recommend you check Maximilian for top trouble shooter play, punk da God for berserker, Uri for top kunoichi chick play. That'll give you more insight on them for a better comparison. Those are also very strong. Inquisiter is also kinds broken and dragon knight can 1 combo k.o in awakening
I think that at the top level characters like Ghost blade might see alot of play like a top 4 pick potentially.
Being a ghostblade main is tough when everyone else has a dp, wake up option, or just runs you over. I might learn a secondary character so I can learn how the rest of the cast lives, but oh boy is it rough out here
Troubleshooter's passive also seems dang good.
Yep! I ranked it as S tier in a previous video
I like to play with trouble shooter funny and honest character
Inquisitor Supremacy is forever! (But also buff her so she's not a 1 trick pony)
King of Neutrals Ghostblade

So thanks for the video

With some of Striker combos, you can't even guard cancel under all that pressure though. It's broken against certain characters like Vanguard and his reversals doesn't work because it only hits high and not low. His guard cancels doesn't work against her during certain strings too. You are pretty much screwed unless the player drops or doesnt do the correct combo. She is broken. Troubleshooter is broken too which is another topic
If most of your criticism for striker seem to revolve fighting her with vanguard, it seems like it's not that she is broken, just a bad match up.
Guard cancel. It's practically a guaranteed "get off me" option against her because she can't space her options like most characters.
@@Gamma0_0 yeah just use 100 mana to get her off you only to get put in another blockstring! Better hope you've got another 100 mana on deck.

@@romanbloomfield9066 Ya know, after seeing some clips of Striker... Haven't gotten the game yet (planning on it once I have enough spare for me and a friend to both play), but I'm curious where kunoichi will end up. Ninja vortex characters can fluctuate a lot depending on a games defensive tools and their setups.
Honestly compared to the rest of the cast right now, she's pretty vanilla
@@Rooflemonger agreed she's very FAIR which is the worst thing to be in this type of game. Her double jump is neat but risky without air block, her mixup potential is negated by the block button, her damage is lowish, and so on.

And what about Dragon Knight? Nobody seems to be talking about her
I think she's very solid, but not in a way thats just overwhelming like some of the others
This game is fun but the network is flawed: every time i do a long combo with super ending, somehowy opponent lose connection...
Everyone's playing Grappler and talking about how great he is. I don't really think he's being undersold by too many people.
@@antonsimmons8519 I think Roofle is deploying a Broly here. Just talk him down and hope for the buffs.
Hopefully they will give grappler more inroads and opportunities since he is at such a severe disadvantage for now
Very interested to see how this all pans out a few years from now especially after DLC characters are in the mix.
Kunoichi and Dragon Knight
Being new to playing fgs I picked this game up because they said it was easy to play. But didn't think about the fact that every character is powerful and everyone is just tweaking on me online. Pretty demoralizing.
Uhhh...the ones with the infinites?
No crusader or grappler is kinda nuts, but I agree with the rest.
Just started using vanguard, he is pretty fun for me, he has some decent mix and very good pressure, its very easy to guard break people and if you utilize the games mechanics well vanguard feels very nice and pretty strong. He definitely feels very strong in some matchups
He is extremely trash at high level play. You need a dp and against smaller characters the only option he has to get out is guard cancel
@@bilbobaggins7075 I second this, I have yet to land a DP against Striker. He's still fun but definitely lacking compared to the rest of the cast.
im sorry, but where is his mix? His thing is lit. "pressure til guardbreak from fullscreen" bc he has no mix
Yeah, it’s miserable. Especially against Vanguard, Trouble Shooter and Ghost Blade.
I think Launcher is bottom one
Great zoning but no good buttons in close range 🌬️🍃
try eating those gun and flame combos. Mmm
I've been trying to gaslight myself into thinking Vanguard is good, but I'm struggling lol. I tend to gravitate towards low tiers for some reason
Yo can we get that guard break combo in the comments? That is absolutely something people are going to want to commit to muscle memory against turtles
since i got the game about a week ago, i main vanguard (sadly to say). i like him and yes HES VERY WEAK!! for me, my weakest with him is the close and the far range combat (zoning). like if i go up against any zoning fighters im screwed like i dont know what to do lik i dont have hyper armor to burst thru (i dont think) or counter the projectiles to stop them from coming instead of me dash thru then block dash thru block. its not fun at all to play vanguard but theres smth in me thats lik "play him and youll be rewarded sooner or later" type of saying. Idk if there are any vanguard mains, PLZZZZ help a spear brother out i want to main him badly.
Where is Dragon Knight? That character is definitely the #2 on the tier list and success in tourneys.
I would say that this game is super fun, except when I'm fighting a Striker 😅 but that may be my fault for playing Vanguard
I just can't seem to get her off of me or defend against her strings. I'm getting really discouraged from this game because whenever I fight a Striker I just... Can't play the game. Any tips from anyone would be great because I'm completely at a loss for the matchup.
Naw no tips she can force you into her stagger game with 2s on wake up every single time. Vanguard not having a good dp is detrimental to his kit
Just because Crusader has an infinite that's easy to do, does not at all mean you can land it mid-match.
Well it's easy to do because you can land it mid match
its incredibly easy to land mid match. Trivial even.
I hate swift master, crusader and launcher with every fiber of my being.
I went from grappler to vanguard to zerker back to grappler.
And some day soon im gonna whiff punish the crap out of those three without fudging up my inputs!!!!!!
Vent over! great video have a wonderful day :)
I feel crusader should be on the list, he is quite likely the one of the most ridiculous character even without infinite.
I think swift mast would be undisputed best if the negative edge didn’t take 90000 frames to charge in neutral
1 Striker, 2 swift master,3 hitman with Awakening ,4 lost warrior, 5 crusader, 6 grappler
I been having fun on the game lately with crusader i dont do the infinte just keep little fair even lile to trick people im gonna do it but nah but so far the game is fun bad thing is not in evo but still the game is fun to play
This game needs balancing ASAP, it's like if a 5yr old created a fighting game, no thought for game balance just created the strongest most op moves you can and let the chips fall where they may
6:30 *Uhhhh, what in the absolute flying shit?!?!* That looks so stupid! 🤣🤣🤣
I think you underestimate most of the cast's ability to keep Striker out. And her reversal has such a narrow hitbox that it's very easy to force it to whiff with how many disjointed hitboxes are in this game.
Striker dp should not be able to cancel in mp moves there I said it lol.
Berserker still is too badass to pass him even if you lose almost more health then you do damage after buffing yourself lol
Obviously Swift Master is the undisputed broken king right now, but for me Hitman is a worse match up than even striker. Maybe it's because I main Kunoichi and it's usually a toss up when i face striker, but with Hitman I just get blitzed
Grappler is good yes he has his weaknesses but the fact he can two touch you means alot lol
basically every character in this game can two touch you
@@Rooflemonger maybe I’m bias I play launcher and 90% of the cast is broken is my eyes 😂😂😂
As a VG main, all these MU are so bad. Don't get me started with Enchantress and Launcher
