+Bacon Lord Sorastro is the Bob Ross of hobby miniatures painting. Great production values, welcoming voice, and he makes it look easier than it is. The only thing he's missing is the perm.
You're the Bob Ross of miniature painting! Also the Steven Spielberg and the Hans Zimmer! Painting, video-audio editing. Man you're totally a 360° artist. Sorastro the Maestro!
I wanted to compliment you on your videos. The way you zoom in to the miniature while painting it so that it takes up the entire frame and still managing to keep it perfectly focused is one of the best on TH-cam in regards to this hobby. Thanks and keep up the great work.
First ever painting tutorial video in my life. Back then I tought that I will never reach this lvl. But I did it years ago. I am almost is tears now while I'm watching this. Thank you for the help with my first steps on this never ending jurney Sorastro.
I first stumbled on to your tutorials for zombicide. I dabbled into imp assault and there you were.. guiding light and inspiration to paint. And now here you are with descent.. my minis shall be painted! thank you!
I simply came here to say these are probably the best instructional miniature painting videos in the whole wide web. So much more detailed and simply better made even than the ones from Warhammer TV. Keep it up, sir!
BTW, I wouldn't mind at all if you painted some GW miniatures as well :) Would love to see what you could do with Grey Knight Terminators for instance.
Another fantastic instructional video. I love your painting. Keeping it simple and producing great results. Also the production value of these videos are nothing short of professional. Thank you for posting these.
Thank you very very much for your awesome work! I`m a beginner in painting miniatures and your tutorials are the perfect start to get into this hobby. The results I have achieved based on your Imperial Assault-videos are amazing and the production value of your videos is just awesome. I just became a patron to suppport your work. I am very excited that you are doing the Descent series. My Descent (2nd Edition) collection is the reason why I have started painting miniatures, but my lack of experience and my fear of screwing up my beloved miniatures prevented me to begin. So your Descent painting guide is a dream come true.
+Sebastian Peters Thanks so much Sebastian! You're kind support is helping me become a full-time creator which means I'll soon be turning out a lot more content (including Descent) :)
I would be happy for you if you can do this as your main profession. And if you will release more Descent content more frequently it will be a win-win situation for both of us ;-)
By the way I think the support of your channel will rise because of your Descent-series. The Descent-community is huge and with the awesome Road To Legend-App it will grow again. I just posted in the German Descent community about your work and hope to spread your support in Germany.
+Sebastian Peters Thanks a lot Sebastian! I also believe that the Descent series could grow to become one of my more popular series; It's been frustrating trying to juggle multiple series alongside doing a tiring day job, but now I've handed in my resignation it won't be long until I'm able to build up the momentum of the series a bit more. Thanks again for helping spread the word!
Man, really loooove your series. In fact, you're the one inspired/made me jump in to miniature painting. Easy to follow and top-notch video production. Your painting is awesome. Looking forward for more new miniature painting series from you. 👍🏼
I think I've said all of this before, but it bears repeating: you make it look so easy. Another excellently produced video, and I love the music and how it evokes well-known fantasy like GOT, LOTR, ...
So very stoked for this, because there's a ton of descent minis to paint (assuming you have all the expansions) in loads of different styles (the elementals in particular will be interesting) which means a ton more vids to watch. been painting for nearly 30 years now, and your videos are as inspirational as they are informative. thank you for making such great content sir!
Nice to see some more of your work, I'm only painting IA miniatures myself but seeing your methods for painting any figures has helped my own painting 100x. Thanks again!
I asked a friend what should I watch to learn to better pain miniatures (now starting the hobby) he showed me this. I absolutely loved it and will use the tips for sure :)
Thank you so much for doing these videos!!!! I am descending into the world of table top gaming and knew that I must also try mini painting as well. I really enjoy the step by step breakdown of your process and technique. I am a total beginner but feel confident in tackling this task armed with your amazing reference material. I appreciate the time and effort that you put into your videos, they are quite pleasing to watch.
Just picked this up for my Nephew and Nieces, they loved Hero's Quest and we just finished, they did wonderful. Excited to play Descent with them! I was looking at the characters and I thought I wanted to paint them right away, found this video right away thanks!
So are FF one of your patrons, almost tempted by this to buy descent but with 20 odd IA figures to paint just about avoided the temptation and will continue to support citadel paints as you release more I videos. This was a great video as always and impressed with the gold which is something I have struggled with
+Richard Hill Thanks Richard! As far as I'm aware FFG aren't patrons (although I can see why you ask!). I chose Descent as it was the most requested game (after Imperial Assault) in the questionnaire, followed closely by Zombicide: Black Plague (which I can't wait to paint!). I must say, although it's a bit pricey, that Retributor Armour is rather awesome and definitely worth having :)
I was just about finished painting the monsters from descent 2, when i saw your video. The heroes intimidated me, but after your vid, i went for it. I used shading and single level of highlight, and am very happy with how she turned out. I also finished the archer. Only a few more heroes left. Oh, but then theres all those darn expansions. Hahaha. The hero sculpts for the more recent expansions appear to have more detail. Thanks for the vids!!
A tip for these Fantasy Flight miniatures that sometimes come with a bent sword or spear etc. And to make them straight again. Dip the weapon in boiling water for a few seconds. Straighten the weapon out and run it under cold water.. fixed.. :)
So much detail but what a great finished product. i just ordered the game as a combination of something to play and a new winter hobby. This will get me started. Cheers.
Other mini painting TH-camrs: "So, as you can see I fucked up by missing that one leaf but who cares, amirite?" Sorastro: "Take care to identify all the leaves on the base, as you might miss some. Just like I did, here." Amazing content
I have the first three expansions to to Descent Second Edition. Thank you for posting this video and all the others on the board game. I will be making a checklist for myself to make sure I have everything to make my figures as amazing as you did yours. Cheers! :)
Brother, You are such a skilled artist. I learn so much from every video you upload. I mostly use Army Painter and Vallejo paints. How ever, Every tutorial if you will that you publish can be applied to all that I have to work with as well. I would like to thank you for sharing your talents in this field. Again, Thank you.
Hello Sorastro. Thank you again for this excellent tutorial. I was eager to see something about Descent and these beginnings are promising! highly more ... Generally, your tutorials are very well filmed and the steps easy to reproduce.
Awesome work! I am currently painting my Descent collection and loved seeing your work. Thanks for including the basing information also. it was something I have not yet done but was curious about.
Thank you Glen! The Descent videos will be pretty slow coming to start with, but once I hit the next Patreon milestones I'll be able to give more time to them :)
I learned a lot from watching this video. I have actually never painted a figure.. and this is the only board game I play these days. I would love to paint all my Decent figures half as well as you painted this one. I might just have to go out and get me some gear
+Sorastro's Painting Excellent ... I'll be following along which ever one you choose. Good luck with your plans to go full time on this BTW. I think we'd all like to see you churning out a video each week !
Now I finally realize why there are so many shades... mixing them for the armour really portrays what the shades actually do.. wow... I was just using the same shade (nuln oil) for everything :)...
Your welcome. I recently started playing mini figure games with my son and painting the figures will help his interest and give me relaxing hobby. I only hope to have a fraction of your results! Very skilled.
+Devon Veenstra Thank you Devon - both for the comment and for the patronage! It is my plan to cover each of the heroes then move onto the monsters and lieutenants. The next hero is due next month :)
Once I was going to ask you politely to do a Descent guide, and of course you just went ahead and did it anyways! :D Looking forward to how you will paint all the other figures. Especially the awesome monsters :)
+AegisJosh Lol thanks AegisJosh :) I'm looking forward to painting more Descent, but it might be a while as Zombicide: Black Plague is also now competing for my attention :)
Beautifully done. I've been painting minis since 1982 and still learned some new ideas from watching this video. A couple of questions for you: 1) why do you put the new base on top of another base? 2) Do you ever prime your minis with black?
+Bill Edmunds Thank you very much Bill! 1) I don't, but I can see that that is how it looks now you mention it! That's just how the Microart bases look. 2) Yes I often prime in black, but for generally bright-coloured minis like this I might choose white :)
Thank you! I'm happy to hear your Syndrael turned out well! I've produced a set of 6 PDF guides on Patreon for some of the other Descent minis and will be continuing the videos soon with the Shadow Dragons :)
Love it. I am going to try and follow the colours as you do on my second Descent collection. My first I did as I did my Warhammer Fantasy Army: with whatever caught my fancy! :D
Another wonderful tutorial. Incredibly professional. I'm a bit stumped though as I own a number of Vallejo paints and I've tried looking up the equivalent paints but can't quite find them. I have found about 11 equivalents. Looking forward painting my copy of Descent and using the same techniques on my copy of Myth and Shadows of Brimstone.
+Jason Christie Thanks Jason! I confess I don't know the Vallejo range very well so can't really advise.. I might suggest that if you bought just one Citadel paint (if you can access them) it would be the Retributor Armour; it's quite a new release and somewhat pricey but a really fabulous color! Hmm you remind me that I still need to paint my SoB minis one day..
You are a Paint GOD! Just finished my Syndrael following your guide and for my first mini ever, i'm more than impressed! Thank you for all the detailed steps :) Next episode coming out soon? Can't wait. Which hero will you be painting if i may ask!
Simply fantastic.... and a project I already own. I had to rewind the video on several occasions as it was easy (and quite pleasant) to get .... lost. Subscribed. (I know, duh.)
Great Tutorial! I just finished painting Syndrael with your tutorial. It was really easy to understand so she turned out quite well even though this was my first paint-job ever! The part I struggled with the most were the highlights as I was often unsure about the parts that I had to highlight. Btw. your videos have a crazy good quality. Everything from the camera work to the soundtrack and explanation is top notch! I wanted to suggest something that could maybe improve the videos a little bit further. It would be really cool if you could link high resolution pictures from 3 or 4 angles after each step of painting so that we can be sure about the parts we have to paint. It may be too much of trouble though and I completely understand if this would be too much of a bother.
Thank you very much for the kind words and for the helpful suggestion! In my more recent videos I have been making more of a conscious effort to give the miniature a full spin after each main colour so viewers can hopefully see more clearly exactly where to place the paint; hopefully this will negate the need to take additional still shots at each stage (which would add a fair bit to the production time). :)
Just finished painting my syndrael and it came up amazing thanks to your guide. Looking forward to more descent videos, when can we expect more? Thanks for your hard work 😊
+Sorastro's Painting I thought the music to this one was ideal for all fantasy subjects... But I am eager for more painting content. 😇 (but that in no way diminishes the awesome music). 😎
I hope you'll ne able to produce more videos for Descent after summer, now that this will become your main job. I also wish you luck with Patreon and hope you can keep producing more of these amazing videos.
Nice, keep the descent painting guides coming, now I can paint my miniatures and giving them a proper look :) Just a small note, not sure if anyone mentioned yet but you forgot the Sotek Green color on the list of paints used.
Beautiful work with this miniature! Thank you for the excellent instruction. I particularly appreciate how you explained the purposes behind each step. As a painting noob, I started out by painting the Descent monsters, but am still building up the nerve to work on the heroes, as they are more detailed. Your instruction will go a long way toward allowing me to make that step. Thanks! Will there be additional videos for the other Descent minis?
Thank you Sorastro. I just followed your guidelines and painted my first miniature for Descent. The result is not as good as yours (I fumbled with the Coelia shade at the end for the eyes), but it's satisfying enough. Can't wait to see how you will paint the monsters.
Excellent tutorial. You have set the bar in miniature painting tutorials. As you may not get round to finishing the zombicide minis, in particular the survivors, how about a suggestion on base coats and highlights for certain minis. I find that choosing colours a difficult process, especially if I want to recreate the colour scheme on the character cards.
hi Sorastro!this is an amazing and in detail work!!!!!! congratulations!!!!!!!! can please tell me which is the song that is heard in 6:50(Shading) ..thanks a alot..
I don't have any miniatures to paint, but there's something really satisfying about these videos.
Thank you very much Bacon Lord :)

Thank you so much Severindrax! I do think this could be a very long-running series :)
Just happened to buy Descent last week, so the timing of this video is perfect! New to painting miniatures, so this will be a godsend! :)
Immaculate timing! :)
THIS was the video which made me start miniature painting. Thanks for it!
Thanks so much Leandro! That makes me happy to hear 😀
Nice to see some more of your work, I'm only painting IA miniatures myself but seeing your methods for painting any figures has helped my own painting 100x. Thanks again!
Thank you again! I really enjoyed the change of theme and pace when making this. But I'm also now having a blast working on Han Solo :)
This is what TH-cam was missing. Good video about painting Descent minis. I can't wait for more! :)
+Agnieszka Szy Thank you Agnieszka! I will be returning to paint more Descent miniatures over the coming months :)
One of the most complete painting instructional videos I have seen. Fantastic work.
That's very kind - thank you! :)
finally!!! a descent painting series!
thanks a lot sorastro!
You're welcome Gonazalo! It was the most requested game to paint on the questionnaire I put out (after Imperial Assault) so you asked for it :)
I asked a friend what should I watch to learn to better pain miniatures (now starting the hobby) he showed me this. I absolutely loved it and will use the tips for sure :)
Thank you so much! I'm really glad you found the video useful :)

No words for this WONDERFULL job!!
+carlitossama Thank you Carlitossama! Those words are good enough :)
As always, these tutorials are world class!
Thanks (again) Bushibayushi :)
I am impressed both with your painting and with the fact that you make your own music. Well done, Sir!
Thank you! I do enjoy working on the music :)
Another amazing tutorial Sorastro! I bought IA because of these tutorials and now you're tempting me to buy Descent! :D
Thank you DeeNiall!

+Bearprobe Good tip :)
Some of my zombies are full-on Smooth Criminal. I'm almost afraid to try this on them but there's no reason why it shouldn't work...
Yep. Worked a treat. I then went through the entire batch and straightened out all of the warped bases (which the larger monsters are notorious for).
So much detail but what a great finished product. i just ordered the game as a combination of something to play and a new winter hobby. This will get me started. Cheers.
Thank you! Have fun :D
Other mini painting TH-camrs: "So, as you can see I fucked up by missing that one leaf but who cares, amirite?"

Amazing content
Amazing work, once again! And the production values are really through the roof....well done!
Thanks a lot dreadknot! I appreciate (all!) your kind words :)
I really enjoyed your Star Wars painting videos. I am happy to see you have continued and look forward to your take on fantasy miniatures.
+decado1628 Thank you Sir!
I have the first three expansions to to Descent Second Edition. Thank you for posting this video and all the others on the board game. I will be making a checklist for myself to make sure I have everything to make my figures as amazing as you did yours. Cheers! :)
Thanks a lot atari1777! Have fun :)

Thanks for the lovely comment Sam! I'm happy to hear the techniques are quite transferable :)
Excellent guide, thank you! Applies to all minis, universal techniques. Loved the detailed video.
+ciphernemo Thank you sir! :)
As always, a marvelous work
+Luiz Sodré Thank you Luiz! :)
Wow, very well done. Eagerly awaiting Ep. 2.
+SPBurt1 Thank you!
Hello Sorastro.
Thank you again for this excellent tutorial. I was eager to see something about Descent and these beginnings are promising! highly more ...

Thank you Kaaby49! I'm really glad you find the steps easy to reproduce :)
Awesome work! I am currently painting my Descent collection and loved seeing your work. Thanks for including the basing information also. it was something I have not yet done but was curious about.
+tntkhan1 Thank you! It's extra work of course, but for the heroes at least I feel rebasing is definitely worth the effort :)
Ooh, I've been waiting quite a while for a proper Descent painting series! Keep it up sir! Would like twice if I could!
Thanks a lot Christopher! I'll do my best to keep it up :)
Your IA stuff was fantastic, and now Descent too? Just brilliant! Patreon here I come!
Thank you Glen! The Descent videos will be pretty slow coming to start with, but once I hit the next Patreon milestones I'll be able to give more time to them :)
+Sorastro's Painting No problem - it was a great change of pace. All the best for hitting your next milestone. I just signed up to help out a little.
Thanks again Glenn!
I am addicted. Thank you!
Ha ha - thanks Thomas :)

Wow, amazing video. Perfect instruction, agreeable voice, nice music... a must subscription. :)

Thanks a lot Max! Yes.. time is important - some things can't be rushed! :)
Good music and best painting skill. I thing this is the perfect video for tutorial
Thank you Pubets!
Masterful. Truly excellent work.
+mehcromancer Many thanks! :)
I learned a lot from watching this video. I have actually never painted a figure.. and this is the only board game I play these days. I would love to paint all my Decent figures half as well as you painted this one. I might just have to go out and get me some gear
+Chris Illssbilsworth Thanks Chris! There's no turning back once you start playing with painted minis :)
Thanks for sharing this awesome video. You've inspired me to have a go at painting my own Descent minis, I can't wait for the next instalment!
+Joe Glover Thanks Joe! I'm looking forward to making the next one :)
+Sorastro's Painting Any word on which figure might be next? I noticed you had Jain Fairwood primed and ready to go in this video :)
Hi Joe! I haven't actually decided yet.. It will definitely be one of the base-set heroes though (all of whom are primed and ready :) )
+Sorastro's Painting Excellent ... I'll be following along which ever one you choose. Good luck with your plans to go full time on this BTW. I think we'd all like to see you churning out a video each week !
+Joe Glover Thanks Joe! That's the dream, and I might not be too far off achieving it if the Patreon support continues to grow :)
This is an excellent video tutorial. Thank you very much for creating it.
Thank you very much Andy! I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
Looking forward to seeing more decent painting guides, really enjoy your videos very inspiring and easy to follow 😊

As always amazing. Thanks so much for your work!
You're welcome Belzebub! I appreciate your comments and glad you liked this one :)
Great videos! I was intimated but after watching these I'm going to go for it. Thank you very much for these great videos.
Thanks a lot James! I really appreciate that 😀
Your welcome. I recently started playing mini figure games with my son and painting the figures will help his interest and give me relaxing hobby. I only hope to have a fraction of your results! Very skilled.
What a beautiful way to spend time with your son! :)
What an incredible tutorial! Please continue :)
Thank you Daniel! I will :)
Loved watching this come together. I only wish you had a video for every hero in the Descent 2 box.
+Devon Veenstra Thank you Devon - both for the comment and for the patronage! It is my plan to cover each of the heroes then move onto the monsters and lieutenants. The next hero is due next month :)
You've really outdone yourself with the music this time. Magnificent! :)
+Samurai Rabbit Thanks mate! I appreciate that.
+Samurai Rabbit Agreed! I half expected to hear the IA transition music employed between stages.
+Sorastro's Painting keep up the good work :)
OMG God has sent me this channel!!!! XD Thanks so much. Nice nice painting! I will start painting my descent miniatures tomorrow! Greetings from Spain
Lol - thank you!
Once I was going to ask you politely to do a Descent guide, and of course you just went ahead and did it anyways! :D
Looking forward to how you will paint all the other figures. Especially the awesome monsters :)

Ah, okay. Could the "bottom" base be removed?
+Bill Edmunds Hmm I've never tried it actually so wouldn't like to say with certainty but I would imagine so :)
An Amazing tutorial and very useful … thank to you now I have a wonderfull Syndrael!!! I hope you'll find the time to complete the Descent pack!!!

Geeeeeeeez Sorastro, Now I have to go out and buy Decent 2 :)
Lol sorry about that Tanya :)
+Tanya Beeson Hey no one said there *wouldn't* be bonus prizes.... ^ ^
You are a Paint GOD! Just finished my Syndrael following your guide and for my first mini ever, i'm more than impressed! Thank you for all the detailed steps :)
Next episode coming out soon? Can't wait. Which hero will you be painting if i may ask!
+Max Max Thank you Max Max! I'm very happy your Syndrael came out well! I'm going to do Leoric next and should be ready around late May :)
Great video! Hope to see more descent painting :)
Thanks Patrick! There will be more when I can :)
Simply fantastic.... and a project I already own. I had to rewind the video on several occasions as it was easy (and quite pleasant) to get .... lost. Subscribed. (I know, duh.)
Thank you!
Thanks for your hard work 😊
+Stuart Filth Thanks a lot Stuart! I'm happy your Syndrael came out well. I'm aiming to produce the next episode in April :)
Excellent - Looking forward to more in this series! :)
Thanks Craig! I'm looking forward to getting the next episode finished (and coming up with some wizard-ey music!)
Oh yes - I noticed that you did the music as well. It just makes it even more impressive!! (what do you use to create the music by the way).
+Craig John Thank you sir! I use Cubase 8 and a load of the East West VST instruments to get the most authentic sound I can :)
+Sorastro's Painting I thought the music to this one was ideal for all fantasy subjects... But I am eager for more painting content. 😇 (but that in no way diminishes the awesome music). 😎
+Craig John :D
Great video and once again love the music. Dammit now I'm going to have to pick up Descent. I saw some nice scenery pieces in there too
+Brian LeClaire Cheers Brian!
Incredible work, thank you so much!
+Pikawaku Thanks Pikawaku! :)
You truly are amazing.
+RangerAimee Thank you Aimee! That's very kind :)
Hope to see more videos for Descent to come :)
Thanks! I hope to make more too, just might be a while (really hoping to get more Patreon support so I can change my day job to just creating videos)
Amazing vid keep up the great work!!!😀😀😀😀😀👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you! :D
I hope you'll ne able to produce more videos for Descent after summer, now that this will become your main job. I also wish you luck with Patreon and hope you can keep producing more of these amazing videos.
+Jose Luis Meseguer Thanks a lot Jose! That's my hope too :)
Nice, keep the descent painting guides coming, now I can paint my miniatures and giving them a proper look :)
Just a small note, not sure if anyone mentioned yet but you forgot the Sotek Green color on the list of paints used.
+abnreis Thanks abnreis and well spotted! I've now added it to the list in the video description :)
Awesome, really awesome!
And very interesting to know how to paint de armor.
Thanks Ruben! I'm happy you like it :)
really impressing, I feel so far from this level with my actual painting. Great work, really instructive video
Many thanks sir!
Thanks for this video. You have inspired me to give this a try! :)
+Jake Fernandez You're welcome Jake! Go for it :)
Voice. So soothing.
Great work! Would love to see you continue the Descent miniatures! Subscribed!
Thanks a lot Shawn! I will be continuing the series :)
Excellent tutorial and your production standards are top notch. What camera setup do you use?
Thanks DaB! I'm now using a Nikon D750 with a Tamron Macro lens. My channel update video will show you my set up a little better :)
Thanks a lot Brian! Yes I will be continuing the series - the next episode will most likely arrive April :)
Thank you Sorastro. I just followed your guidelines and painted my first miniature for Descent. The result is not as good as yours (I fumbled with the Coelia shade at the end for the eyes), but it's satisfying enough. Can't wait to see how you will paint the monsters.
Thank you Mathieu! :)
Please make more of these they are really great
Thank you Cpt.Oink! It will be a couple of months until the next episode but I WILL be continuing the series :)
Thank you
Excellent tutorial.
+Tarik Kadhim Thanks Tarik! I'll see what I can do RE a color guide for the Zombicide survivors; I'm just so busy atm :/
Brilliant!
Thanks Jacob! :)
hi Sorastro!this is an amazing and in detail work!!!!!! congratulations!!!!!!!!
can please tell me which is the song that is heard in 6:50(Shading) ..thanks a alot..
+Antonio Xalilis Hi Antonio! Thanks a lot! I composed all of the music myself :)
It's amazing!!!!!
+clitoritico Thank you! The next episode will be coming in a couple of months :)
Great video. THanks. One question, why do you use the premade washes? Isn't it the same as making your own by diluting the normal paint more?
Thank you! I use the pre-made washes because they really are NOT like just diluting paint :)
