Few are those who have the patience to teach proper ballet technique to adult beginners. I've become very selective about which teachers I will take lessons from. I don't think it has any sense of teaching more advanced moves if students don't have the basics down pat (e.g., turnout, straight knees, proper weight distribution to the front of the foot, etc. etc.). The learning of these basic techniques (i.e., the mechanics) has proven highly gratifying for me personally. So, thank you for your extensive video.
That’s exactly, what I‘m praying to my adult students whenever I can😅… for some of them it’s so hard to understand, that before they can even think of „dancing“ Ballet, they have to learn standing properly and keep up the rotating work during every movement… I think, that’s one of the most challenging aspects for teachers of adult beginner classes. People join them, because they want to dance, but then they realize, that ballet is serious work, which, as I think, can be a big pleasure, once, you understand, what it’s about… Thanks for your videos🥰
You have a gift for explaining things. So glad I found your channel. I subscribed and will be watching! Great supplement to my classes in person. Thanks
I could not agree more! I have always known ballet was giving me and the world something special, something beyond just exercise. I started at age 12 after I cried and kicked my way to ballet school as my parents thought it was too expensive and it was " just a phase". Well, that phase never left. Now at age 57 I am still loving both doing ballet and watching ballet. Ballet is beyond anything I have ever done and your words absolutely describe what I believe.
Your videos are exceptional. Really fantastic. So clear in instruction and helpful for all level of dancers . Good clean technique. A true artist and brilliant educated instructor. Your body and lines are aspirational. You remind me of the Louise Brooks quote "if you want to learn how to act look at a dancer, and to dance an actor" You have totally grasped and honed your craft. Hope to see you perform when you are next in production. ❤
Thanks, yes! This is just the words I needed to hear! I'm beginning to learn that there is a ballet of the body; all those continuous spirals and rotations and opposing forces are coming more into focus. Also helps with stability and balance? And yes it does define the artform because with all the rotation and push n pull comes an equilibrium. A dialectic. But getting an insight into this takes so much work and conditioning...
@@SaltySugarPlum I find ballet is partly an enormous exercise in joining the dots; I'm encouraged to explore and connect movement with sensations and feelings. Your video has pointed me towards several connections - it is exciting to explore and experience more. Thank you!
Great video. Such a good explanation! The masking tape really helps illustrate the points.❤ On another topic, your skin looks beautiful now. How did you get rid of the eczema?
hey, actually how to learn to twist legs more from the hip? sometimes I twist my knees and ankles too much and then I feel pain. yesterday my teacher told me to do tendu to the side, carefully shuffling the outer edge of my foot, and grabbed my thigh, rotating it more with her hands. It is very difficult for me to recreate it with the strength of my muscles, will just strengthening the muscles responsible for the turnout solve my problem? I greet warmly
if you hold your leg out in any direction (like the height of a dégagé) flex the foot, and practice turning in & turning out again, rotating from the thigh, slowly, over and over. you will start to feel the muscles you need for more turn out coming from the thighs... and because your foot is not touching the floor, you should not need your knees or ankles to rotate the whole leg. this feels like your inner thighs reaching forward, and the top muscles around the sides of your hips and under your glutes pulling backwards... all you have to do is reach for more turn out every time. it is both a squeezing, and a pulling. and then you can lower your leg to tendu. and practice from there... already feeling the thigh rotating at the beginning of your tendus.
