One thing I've seen mentioned that I like the idea of: it says Placidusax is waiting the return of his God. If you look at how he's posed in his arena, his silhouette is similar to the one the two fingers in the round table take when trying to commune with the Greater Will.

Actually that’s a really good observation. Nothing seems to suggest that Placidusax and the ancient dragons were enemies of the Greater Will. It’s important to note that the Greater Will is not a god - it’s an Outer God, specifically. Marika is a god, and one becomes Lord by becoming consort to a god. That’s why Mohg declares himself Lord of Blood, with Miquella acting as his consort and god. I think the god that fled/disappeared was probably the Greater Will’s agent before Marika, and Placidusax was that god’s Lord.

    • @jennaherman3859
      @jennaherman3859 2 ปีที่แล้ว +21

Interesting, however Placidusax is also missing a head and part of his tail, if you look closely while fighting him you can see his tail has been cut short, and their appears to be a Neck Stump near his left shoulder, and as the video says their is evidence that this head was lost in the war with the golden order.
Also Greyoll is 1 of only 2 FEMALE dragons that we know of. and if the Dragon Outer Gods choses Vessels like the Greater Will, perhaps the missing Dragon God is also Female. also I am only theorizing but Greyoll could be Gransax's or Placidusex's Mate. in the case of Gransax she is Large enough to nearly match Him. but instead of producing Ancient Dragon Offspring she produces more plentiful Lesser Dragons which many have VERY potent power anyway being more tied to the lands between, examples include the Rot Dragon, a standard if powerful fire dragon, a Dragon of Ice and a Dragon of Glinstone. What we dont see from these lesser Breeds is the Telltale Red Lightning or even standard Gold Lightning. If She was Placidusax's Mate (basically the God of the Dragons Outer God), perhaps she was affected in a way similar to Marika, sort of Imprisoned and Unable to bear Full Ancient TYpe Dragon Offspring any longer. in this regard we could Theorize that the Ancient Dragons are more like the Empyrean's that would appear under Marika's rule. Powerful Beings that could have Succeeded her as the Dragon Queen/God. instead she ended up bearing the dragon equivalent of omen children.
Also speaking of Empyrean Children, Ranni states she knows of only 3 of Marika's Children which can claim that title, Herself, Malenia, and Miquella. Also I believe that when Ranni cut away her Empyrean Flesh, it Droze her mother a little mad because she surrounds herself with her "sweeties" all female sorceress's with poorly functioning legs. However the Frenzied Flame Ending Proves that their was a 4th which Ranni did not Know about, Now whether or not Melina really is the Gloam Eyed Queen or just a facsimile i can't rightly say. but Ranni seems to have Modelled her Doll body very similar to Melina's looks, and Melina teaches us how to use runes, and gives us the spirit whistle that calls Torrent. Only the Finger Maidens and the Empyrean's would likely have the knowledge to turn Runes into power. However Melina also tells us Early on that she was tasked with a job by her mother "who lives in the Erdtree" this is a direct connection to Marika. Melina therefore must be an Empyrean, she was not born to either of Marika's Consorts and was likely Born before the choosing of Houra Louh as Marika's first Consort and his renaming. The young Girl surrounded by wolves we see in Faram Azula Statues/Art work if she is Marika, born among the beast men or Raised by them she likely had a Life in the Dragon City.
What if the Greater Will watched as the Dragon became complacent, high in the sky none could challenge their power, but they also lacked interest in the lands beneath them. It offered a young girl and her beastman half brother immense power, in exchange for becoming it's Vessel in the lands between and ushering humanity into a Golden Age, because it had seen that the beastmen were degenerating into more primitive forms and their minds wasting away. Accepting the bargain the Elden beast and Elden ring were Given to this young woman but a side effect was her having a baby soon after, which would go on to Create assassins, ushering in Death to those who the Greater will decreed must die. The Black Knives seem to utilize a fraction of the Rune of Death forged by Ranni after she stole it from Maliketh. but the Original Assassins were the Godskins, beings which were similar to the Crucible Knights in that they took on aspects of certain foes, but they also Wielded the Black Flame, fire powered by the Rune of Death. That is Until Marika thought their Power was growing too much so she handed the Rune of Death to Maliketh who sealed it and its power away, but not before those flames were used to Burn Countless Dragons im sure.
The rest as they say would be history, of course these are just my random thoughts.

@@Necrotaku999 how so? The godskins only had 1 enemy the demigods. Only when the rune of death was sealed by Maliketh would they see the power of their black flame weaken. Thus making them innefective as Demi-God assassins. Their mistress was the gloam eyed queen which due to her purple eye we can surmise is our own Finger Maiden Melinia or whatever her name is. Who says her mother inside the Erdtree gave her a task to facilitate the destruction of a god or outer god. Marika also gave our own blacksmith in the hold the task of forging a god slaying weapon. But one had already been forged. The gloam eyed queens own sword the godslayer but it relied on the now diminished power of the black flame.
So we have Melena/Gloam eyed queen who claims to be a daughter of Marika living within the Erdtree. Tasked with aiding a tarnished in killing Marika/the Beast and breaking the greater wills hold on the lands between, so that the people could be free of the meddling outer god.
The rest is speculative theory, which i have pieced together from lore videos, so if it contradicts item descriptions then the lore videos i have watched also are wrong in their presentation of lore and their theories. That includes this video.

It likely is a representation of Marika, even if it is only symbolic. It could simply be a representation of the concept of Empyrean and Shadow in the time of the Golden Order, which was co-opted from the original concept of loyalty between the Beastmen of Azula and their Lord Dragons. The shrine of a girl and her loyal hounds represents just that: the unbreakable loyalty and love between a dog and their mistress/master, which we see very clearly in both the stories of Malekith and Blaid. I think it was likely fashioned for/by Malekith (or his more lucid persona, Guranq) in an attempt to calm his separation anxiety after being sent to Farum Azula with the Death rune.

Interestingly enough, 'sax' means stone in latin. If one pays close attention, the dragons all seem to have a resemblance to a statue being given life. 'Placidus' means calm (like he said in the vid), 'Fortis' means strong, 'Grandus' or 'Gran' means large, 'Lansea' means lance. So basically this means that 'Placisusax was probabbly known as a calm dragon .His fight is oddly very calm even though he demonstrates immense power. 'Fortissax' was clearly known for his badass strength. His OST itself shows a lot power and authority, which he clearly had in a period before we find him weakened by blight. 'Lanseax' was probabbly known for her piercing power, and Gransax was clearly an enormous dragon (the one we find dead in Leyndell), probabbly the biggest of them. What makes them all related is that they're all made of a significant amount of stone.

The reason why Alexander is in Farum Azula is because he probably jumped into the fire (Which is the same that happens to the Lord of Frenzy). He stated in Mt. Gelmir that he was looking for a stronger flame to temper his body, that flame being the giant's flame. He also can be summoned in the fire fiant fight which rëenforces the idea that he was trying to temper his body in the Giant's flame but ended up in Farum Azula.

Whats interesting to note of Dragonlord Placidusax is that for some reason Miquella's Needle has the interaction to ward off outer gods only specific to his arena. Making me speculate that whatever old, possibly an outer, god he worshipped was a lot more powerful than any of the existing outer gods trying to ascend demigods to gods. Also the fact that no one knew about the whereabouts of Dragonlord Placidusax place hence why he isnt affected by bonus damage of Dragon weapons because he never went out of his place during the war, making me believe that the heart of the storm is a place unseen by any outer god currently known.
Leading to my point that the outer god influencing Miquella is probably the same outer god that left Dragonlord Placidusax. I mean its coincidental that the curse of Miquella is eternal youth and age operates on time, Placidusax might've been an Elden Lord but he was no demigod so the outer god had no plans for him as he cant ascend him to godhood but he guards the arena as if waiting for a new god to be reborn.

Man Faram Azula has to be one of the most confusing and mysterious areas in the game, despite how it ties with so many characters in the game. Definitely not helped by how time is convoluted there.
I believe one person mentioned how the "god" referenced in Placidusax's remembrance might actually refer to a god-figure like Marika (who was considered a god by the denizens of the Lands Between), since the title of Elden Lord is normally referring to a consort of a god like how Godfrey and Radagon became Elden Lords by marrying Marika. His remembrance doesn't say "Outer God", which would have been specifically mentioned if so, like with the Formless Mother, Scarlet Rot, and the Outer God of the Deathbirds, so maybe Placidusax's god-consort fled rather than an Outer God, since there's no mention of the Dragons having their own Outer God compared to the Rot, Deathbirds, etc. Plus, the Dragons not having their own specific Outer God and instead having their god/empyrean fleeing would explain the presence of the unique Elden Ring formation in Malekith's arena. Maybe it's what the Elden Ring would look like if the Rune of Death wasn't removed?
One thing that confuses me about Faram Azula is the presence of Beasts like Malekith. If I remember correctly, Beasts and Dragons seem to represent some factions of primordial life from the Crucible, maybe before even the Elden Beast came to the Lands Between, since the Beast Incantations state that Beasts were among the first to gain intelligence, and of course the stone scales that grant the Ancient Dragons their immortality and god-slaying capabilities. So, if Beasts were that ancient, then how exactly is Malekith Marika's half-brother? Marika and her fellow Numen are for all intents and purposes aliens/extraterrestrial beings from another world and not native to the Lands Between. How are Marika and Malekith related?
You made an interesting point in how it seems that in order to reach Faram Azula you have to sacrifice a Kindling Maiden to get there, but what about in the Frenzied Flame ending? Melina is no longer working with us, so how could we as the bearer of the Frenzied Flame arrive at Faram Azula without a kindling maiden? Is the purpose of kindling maidens to bring us to Faram Azula, or is it more specifically to bring us to Destined Death? Melina's dialogue seems to insinuate that the role of a kindling maiden such as her was to bring the Tarnished to the road to Destined Death. So Marika "betrayed" Malekith by banishing him to an area outside of time, so that he can be slaughtered by the Tarnished at a later date, despite him following her orders completely, from slaying the Gloam-Eyed Queen, to holding onto the Rune of Death.
Also I'm surprised you didn't mention how Miquella's Needle could only be used in Placidusax's arena and nowhere else in the game. If there is DLC I believe that time travel might work like it did in DS2 where the "time-travel" involved going into people's memories of the past and altering events in their dreams and memories to get certain items and talk to people of the past. As the demi-god most affiliated with growth and dreams, Miquella seems to be an important character who will be needed for us to travel to the past, whether physically or through dreams and memories.
    Awesome video nonetheless though!

Wanted to add a small idea, I believe and correct me if I am wrong that ranni refers to blaidd as her brother. When in actuality he has no actually familial relation to her, he was a gift given to her by the fingers when she was a child and she has known him all her life. What if the same applies to Maliketh? Also something else to note blaidd goes mad because ranni directly oppose the greater will and takes actions to free her self and the denizens of the greater wills influence. Marika seems to have done something similar in the form of the shattering, possibly causing maliketh to begin losing himself. I mean as Gurranq he constantly seems to be in a position of nearly losing himself. But this is all just some food for thought

The description of his remembrance doesn't say that his outer god fled but his god which might refer to a god figure like marika instead , the outer god of the dragons could be the greater will itself which might explained why placidusax is called elden lord and there's an ancient looking elden ring in farum azula , maybe the greater will eventually saw the ancient dragons unfit to uphold the elden ring so he chose marika to be his new god puppet , he's also missing 2 maybe 3 heads so he could have been a god and an elden lord at the same time like marika and radagon

The "god" that Placidusax was consort/elden lord to was probably the Dusk Eyed Queen, it's almost too good to be true if you look at and compare the evidence. Firstly and most importantly is she is cited as a "chosen empyrean" meaning she was at LEAST a candidate once. The only other characters who are empyreans (that we know of) are Marika and her children, who all came after the Dusk anyways. That narrows the candidates to...just her. She is also the first owner of Death and leads an army of literal God-killers in a primordial age of many minor gods, which would make her the chief authority amongst them but more like a psuedo-god like Marika was, hence why they are always called "Queen" despite being so much more. Recall only these specific empyrean psuedo-gods can make someone Elden Lord, not just any god will do. Placidusax's god is also stated as "was fled", very specific tensing, as in forced to flee...like after losing a war? Hmmm, and her sword states she was "defeated" by maliketh, not killed, just defeated (like how the fell god was during the War of Giants?) After this she basically just vanishes from all records and descriptions, put the two together. I'm also willing to bet that Marika is her daughter/sister by some convoluted means as empyreans seem to be a direct lineage thing, explaining her usurpation power struggle blah blah blah GRMM you know the deal although none of that is important to my theory.
I feel pretty good about this theory but if you know any other empyreans/factors feel free to help. 99% certain the dlc will be about her and/or Miquella btw, since they're the only characters besides Melina with such open ended backgrounds, and From loves their time travel.

I like these theories. There are a lot of meteors that hit TLB and manifest in different cosmic forms. I think it is great to connect the meteor that hit FA as the Elden Beast/Ring that heralded the end of the Dragon's age. Placidusax probably reigned as Elden Lord over TLB which included the Crucible of Life. I think Marika used the Elden Ring to tie the Crucible to the Greater Will/Golden Order and grow the Erdtree out of it, building the capital around it. By removing the Rune of Death she bound all souls to return to the Crucible/Erdtree and could feed its growth through conquest. It's possible that the outer god the dragons worshipped was the Greater Will or even the One Great which fled or split off and left the dragons as evidenced by the gold magic/lightning. Placidusax could have entered his trance either soon after FA was struck to preserve it or he could have been wounded in the war with the Erdtree forces and entered it after to keep it up with whatever he had left and await their god to return. I think the dragons manifested the storms to keep FA floating after their the meteor struck/their god fled and after being defeated Placidusax entered his trance to keep the crumbling at bay. Either way, Maliketh stayed in FA to guard the Rune of Death and that symbol in his room probably depicts the Elden Ring with the Crucible as its earliest representation while they were still associated. Could either view it as a symbol that they conquered the dragons, one of their first enemies, when Maliketh took up residence, or as evidence that the dragons also worshipped the Greater Will or One Great and included the Crucible in that.

GRRM being a co creator makes me on edge on how deep things like etymology can go in some cases. An example being that Fortis is traced back to Latin, meaning strong, and with the case of placidusax I'd assume there to be meaning to any dragons name if it has sax in it, however lansseax is different in it's spelling but lans can be traced as shorthand for a Germanic surname based on a word meaning shining or holy land, and then there is of course the interesting choice for the ending sound (Saks) to be spelled differently here, and in fact is spelled the exact same way as the seax knife and has an etymology shared with sax tracing to a Germanic word meaning to cut so now we have various names that translate roughly to be some form of cutting, ie strong, calm, or to do with the holy land (which is where you find lansseax). Does this have any deep lore implications, prolly not but Mr Martin sends me down these rabbit holes

What may help is looking into the names. From does not make this easy at all so this may be a long post but it may help with lore. If you just google farum you'll come away thinking farum means "father" because of a dutch town name but the lands between prefer latin. Further searching will find mentions of "farum" in ecclesiastical and medieval latin works. That makes it much more difficult because most latin courses and online references teach classical latin
Digging and you'll find some people on reddit who think it means lighthouse in latin. It actually refers to a specific lighthouse. Farum is latin and comes from the greek pharos. Pharos is the island on which the lighthouse of alexandria once stood. The lighthouse was famously destroyed in an earthquake
Pharos may be directly related to pharoah in greek meaning "big/great house" and that word eventually became the greek word for egyptian royalty, but if it actually is then that has been lost to time
Azula comes from the latin word "blue"
So we may get a glimpse of farum azulas function through its name. It may not have just been a temple but rather a way to guide people. The blue could represent the lighthouse in the sky, or it could be seen as a guideway point for blue phantoms who are PCs sent to defend other PCs from invasion in game
As for placidusax it's important to remember latin words have many meanings. English likes to use much fewer definitions to convey a thought. Placidus means "gentle, calm, mild, peaceful". Placidusax is far from gentle or calm so I feel like he is named for the peaceful quality he created while elden lord
"But why use placidus and not pax/pacem to mean peace?" you might add. Peace to romans was just the state of winning a war. It is different from our concept of peace which is the state of no war. They had entire rituals around great victories. Peac is always in the context of war. Pax Romana is the state after augustus won the great civil wars. If two sides fight and one side wins, only the winning side has peace. Therefore I feel like placidus would be better way to convey our concept of peace, which is the calmness from no war.
We must also look at the second part of his name. Latin loves to cram two words together. Sax probably comes from latin saxum, saxi meaning "stone". It fits a major feature of the dragons, which is their stone appearance
Placidusax probably means "peaceful, calm stone". While we're at it Gransax means "tall, large, fully grown stone" and fortissax is "brave, powerful, strong stone"
Dragons names appear to be referencing their qualities. Placidusax was probably an elden lord who resided over an era without much war
Personally I feel that because of his name, his powers, and the name of farum azula and the function of the structure it was based on that it may have been a guide and placidusax may have used his powers to light the way down below. Rather than being the dragons main holy temple, it was instead maybe a way to guide the people to the holy area. Like the dragons version of the erdtree or something. It was only after he was attacked that his powers turned into the nuclear hellfire lightning breath we know of from the fight. The golden order attacked the dragons and what was peaceful and useful had to turn violent

would be neat to have a time paradox quest line where you can do a melania quest line where if you have her sword. You are the teacher who teaches her waterfowl dance the irony would be great

There used to be 4 fingers in the time of the dragons, after plaxy lost one head he was the 3 fingers maddened by revenge and embraced chaos, once he lost his 3rd he began the 2 fingers trying to make peace in the world. Plaxy when first seen is 2 heads pointing up with wings wrapped around him forming a hand showing peace. the 2 fingers in round table hold are the 2 last fingers of plaxy, and he is the primordial crucible.

Hey I just want to share my findings, whatever meteorite hit farum azula had smaller fragments that struck the same area with horse skeletons in the rubble of what fell. I think the elden beast came down with tree sentinels. Theres also a sentinel guarding malaketh with killed dragon weapons and armor.

Wasn't the gloam eyed queen an empyrean as well? I always that that placidusax was her elden lord, which would give credence to the godskin duo being in the dragon temple that worships placidusax.

Skipped back through this and didnt see if you touched on this or not; but in the center of the area, you see the fossil of Placid in the walls, but you only see two heads.
I think part of him was destroyed, and put/fell into those walls as fossils, and the remains were kept in that time loop/dimension where he retreated to.

Placidusax and Lichdragon are the only two bosses I missed on my initial playthrough because I had no idea they existed. Did both on the second playthrough since I looked up anything I'd missed. Both great cinematic fights but I'd rate both a 4/10 on difficulty. None of the dragons are hard beyond their 1 shot mechanics if you don't know them.

alright so i just watched your 'Who is astel' video before watching this, and came up with a little theory: farum azula might be the nameless eternal city??? its a stretch and it mostly came from the idea that astel would be the comet that destroyed farum. but also the dragonkin soldiers that the Nox ?created? maybe being their way of honoring placidusax, their elden lord.
haven't really worked it all out yet, but thought it was cool anyway :)

Well, we know that the Elden Lord can change between the ages, but the ages always seems to end with a meteor strike and the god abandonment of the lands (like the Elden Beast)
So, Godfrey is the first Elden Lord of the Age of Golden order, while Radaghon is the second Elden Lord, the age lasted that long because of Radhan holding the stars. But why everything was failing in the age?
Age of Dragons could fail because of the greed of them, Age of Giants could end because of their tyranny and violence. Meanwhile, Age of Golden Order could have started crumbling because of the imperfections, all of them trying to be perfect and golden that drives them in a certain discrimination against other races

The kindling of the giants flame and subsequent burning of the erdtree was seen as something completely sacrilegious. pretty sure the elden beast/higher powers send you there as faram azula was said to be a place out of time where unwanted things were sent, like a jail of somesort.

One very interesting thing is that you can actually see placidusax before going to his arena, at least something very similar to his model. On the bridge before Maliketh, if you look towards a wall of terrain, you can see the remains of dragons sticking out of the ground where they were buried. There are 3 models of dragons in the game, the lesser ones, the ancients, and the dragonlord's, and the models of these dragons on the cliffs are Placidusax's, which could mean that they are actually one single dragon.

if you look at astels gravity spell it states he arrived from a asteroid which could've hit azula which is a floating "city"(?) and then crashed through into the underground what confirms that belief for me is the ruins sword as it has gravity magic in it similar to astels i believe that astel is a major part of the downfall of dragons and could've been the result of a few of the dragon lords injuries

Could be a possible paradox, since really we know nothing still on this worlds very history. But considering that there is many outer gods, this place where we fought the dragon lord may have been there coliseum and each deity chose a champion. Perhaps this was a old way of determining whom may rule as a means of control from those gods. But if the natural born befell them, I would think that placidisax stayed in the eye, wanting answers from his god as to why his reign was taken from him through treachery.

  • @franciosdauteuil4626
    @franciosdauteuil4626 ปีที่แล้ว

4:20 My personal theory is that the outer god of rot related to mellania is the god that fled or else is the reason that placidusax's god ran. Placidusax is very visibly damaged and seems to be rotted away. Combined with all the countless defensive measures such as the temporal displacement, beastmen, and "living stone barriers" of dragons makes me think that the land and Placidusax is a victim of the scarlet rot

The Beast Clergyman that you find in Caelid also has the death rune sealed in his hand. So i think that the other Beast Clergyman who reveals himself to be Malekith is the same as the one in Caelid just in another place of time presumably the future where this does not conflict in any ways for why the Beast Clergyman can still be found in Caleid even after defeating Malekith.

    • @zephyrirons4658

Im pretty sure the 2 of them are the same person for if you collect all the deathroots and bring them to Beast Clergy man he will thank you and dissapear. If you them go fight Maliketh he will regognice you so they are the same person even tho he apearently can somehow die and also still be alive eating deathroots at the sametime somehow.

@@draw2death421 The fact that he still exist in caelid probably has no bearing on the lore. Its just for gameplay reasons so people can still get the incantations after defeating maliketh.

It would be cool if time travel is involved with the dlc and you face placidusax's younger form. Maybe he could be called Dragonlord Placidusax Prime and he still has his 2 other heads.
