Hey Phinqs, great guide and awesome build. Any chance you could include the total dimensions in the description or video for the future? Helps a lot when planning for space. Keep up the quality builds.
just got this build done. Looks awesome but holy crap it took me time. All materials+building took me over 6 hours but im a happy man now😂 It was worth the grind! Btw i build this on plains it made it 2x more difficult haha
Very nice build. I prefer my outopost to be minimal but I really enjoy the concept if you're on another Island so you can directly process your metal before bringing it back to your base. I would also add a small farming area so I can have crops growing while i'm exploring or farming ressources.
I like the idea of having a small farm in this build. I love having builds all over my world. It makes the world feel more alive. It is even better playing on a server where other people have built structures across the world that you can stumble upon!
I just build this in my new playthrough. Given that you don't need to wait for tar. I just used corewood and thatch roofs so I could build it after killing the elder. I did however change the chimneys and added roof windows giving it my own twist. Also before finding heaps of iron you can fit 15 small boxes in the shelves which is plenty for now, but I will upgrade to the iron chests later. Just out of curiosity, why the reinforced chests and not the blackmetal chests?
I would be really interested in seeing screenshots of the core wood and thatched roof versions. You can share screenshots in my Discord server, if you want to join. I have also used the regular chests in the past before upgrading to reinforced chests. Actually, for the grid arrangement I have used, you can use black metal chests without any issues. However, many people like to overlap three reinforced chests per shelf, which actually provides more storage than the black metal chests which can only fit two spaces. Therefore, I always default to reinforced chests in my build. You just have to find a solution that works for you. There is an argument that you will end up with lots of black metal towards the end of your playthrough and potentially struggle for iron. So, this might be worth considering when you are deciding on whether you should upgrade to black metal chests from reinforced chests, or not. I hope this helps!
Hello brother, could you make a list of materials about everything you will use in the construction? I'm on a server with 4 friends and as we're a bit of a beginner, it would be interesting to have a list to understand.
I normally use the pathen feature on the hoe to tidy up the edges. It has a slightly smaller radius than the grass and works well for this purpose. I hope this helps!
I want to build this base but I don’t have access to to tar, so I don’t have the cool looking wood and the shingle roof. But I am still wondering if I just make it out of stone, normal wood, and thatch roof.
I think it would still look cool if you made it with the earlier materials. If you build it, I would love to see how it looks. You can share screenshots of builds in my Discord server, if you feel like it!
Not sure if you are still trying to do this or not, but what I did is I just replaced the the darkwood stuff with core wood instead and it looks great. It also looks cool with the thatch roof as well.
I played this on release and invested 200 hours, I’ve just come back to it after many many updates, it mentions playing my old save would ruin my experience due to the exploration I’ve done etc, so I’ve kinda not touched it and started again! With that being said.. it’s been a lot of fun starting again and building my small bases. But! I’ve been deciding when it comes to my ‘final’ build, I’m half tempted to do the ‘spawn in’ wood or stone to do it, (don’t mind grinding for other materials) the design I did on my first play through of 200 hours I refuse to have to farm for all that stone and wood again 😂
I think that is fair. To be honest, I do not think that the gameplay is affected as much as the "warning" implies - as long as you have no ventured too deep into the ashlands. However, I completely understand not wanting to grind for materials you feel like you have already earned. I believe that people should play the game as intended for their first playthrough for maximum enjoyment. However, after that, it is completely up to the individual! I hope you are enjoying your return to the game!
@@phinqs hey! Funny looking back at my comment, I didn’t do any of that and ended up playing completely normal and farming all my materials, unfortunately reached mistlands and pretty much ready for the boss and got burnt out unfortunately, the experience from meadows to the mountains is such a fun experience and I feel nothing can top that 😃
@@AnxietyLad I respect your grind. The game definitely gets tougher towards the later stages. However, I do enjoy the challenge. I am patiently waiting for the next survival game to grab my attention!
Since I uploaded this video, more workbench upgrades have been added to the game. However, there is still enough room for all of the upgrades. You may need to introduce a new shelf above the black forge though!
Thank you for watching! I probably got a little bit carried away. This has turned out to be more of a complete base design but I enjoy it all the same.
There are a few workstation improvements that require ashlands-tier materials. However, the majority of this build can be built after finding tar in the plains! I hope this helps.
Great question. Honestly, I did not think this far. I would probably create a larger perimeter of stake walls where you can create a farm without wasting too many materials. It would also act as a double layer of protection.
I use OBS Studio. There are plenty of guides online for good settings for recording with. I have tried out a few and chosen the one I like the most but I still play around with it quite often. Good luck with your channel!
There are plenty of great videos on TH-cam which cover these topics. Unfortunately, I cannot address every aspect of a base in a single video. I hope you can understand! Thanks for your comment!
Good question. I have tried to use mods to gather a list of materials. However, I could not get it to work. I think that around 240 tar should be enough but I would set up a portal next to a tar deposit just in case. I hope this helps!
You will achieve a maximum comfort level of 16 with this build. However, if you add a lava lantern, yule tree, and maypole, you can achieve the maximum comfort level of 19.
I made this, in survival, in VR no less.. no access to tar yet tho, so had to take some creative liberties. Made the garden a fair bit different as well.. gonna build a farm wing next
Good question. I actually did wonder this myself. I think it could be related to the use of hammer mode. So, in reality, you may need to reduce the number of beehives to ensure each beehive is operational.
I use the console commands by pressing F5 (I play on PC) and using the "devcommands" command. There are a lot of commands you can use including "debugmode" and "B" to enable "no build cost" which allows you to craft anything without the required resources. However, you can also use "hammer mode" which is a creative game mode available in the game. This will remove the requirement for resources. Hope this helps!
Brilliant! I think the size of this base is more than enough for a full playthrough. You may need to incorporate a little more storage towards the end of the game but that is all. I am glad you like it!
Since this is an outpost i need to transport all the non teleportable materials can someone tell me what to take with me? (Im gonna build it in plains)
I would be really interested to know the material requirements too. However, I did not record them whilst I was building the base. I am sorry that I could not be more help!
Good question. Honestly, I am not sure. The walls are not very tall and there is no overhang. However, there are other videos online which can show you how to improve your defences.
Good suggestion. I will add it to my growing list of video ideas. It may be worthwhile to hold off for Ashlands content too. I could create an "all-in-one" video then.
I really like the iron torches. I feel like the light they produce is more aesthetic. I would spread these around the base between the different sections.
I have tried to use mods to provide a material list. However, I could not get it to work. Therefore, I do not have a full list of the materials unfortunately. I understand that this is not ideal!
Nice, but when I steer the cauldron and those pesky bats fly in I really prefer closed building. And if it is tall enough then there is even no need to vent out the smoke. Crystal stones or iron cages make up good windows. Then dig out ground around and use raised ground as low walls and any raid can be just ignored. 😂
I think these are fair points. I like to find a balance between aesthetic and function. Personally, I do not like using the crystal walls or cages as windows but they are definitely an option for those wanting a more raid-proof structure. I completely agree with the use of raised ground as a defence mechanism though. Thank you for sharing!
You can still build this base using regular wood. The same applies to the roof components. You can simply switch the darkwood and shingle roof components for regular wood and thatched rooves. Good luck!
I have been playing the game since February 2021. I have played through the game many times and I am now preparing for Ashlands. However, I do really enjoy building too!
@@jagotiberan2181 Apparently you've never played the game. If you defeat the bosses one after the other, there are events. Unfortunately, after these events, this house would no longer look as nice as it is because it is not fortified enough!
@@berndwinkler1677 I’ve played the game for 600 hours. You can turn raids off at any time or build a moat/wall to defend against them. You can play the game multiple ways like creative mode which the poster uses here. Idk what you’re on about or what you’re trying to prove, but it’s really not working. Go play the game however you want and stop watching this guy’s content if you don’t like it. Simple.
I make these videos to show people my builds. I am not going to spend hours gathering resources just to make a build for a video as that does not make much sense. I have plenty of impressive builds that I have created without devcommands but it is simply not an effective way to produce these videos. However, you are entitled to your opinion and there is no requirement to recreate it!
@@phinqs my point is actually that the title of the video is quite misleading. This is something that can be easily built without devcommands and still won't be that great honestly. If you build something with devcommands then you should put much more effort into it, if you wanna call it "the ultimate outpost base". I mean you didn't even notice that beds are far away from the rest of the comfort pieces and once you sleep you will then have to take some additional time to get the full comfort. Not to mention there is no storage close to the blast furnace, so you will have to walk a lot between the storage and those to properly use your resources. Anyway, I'm sure you'll make better stuff in the future, just maybe use better titles for the videos.
@@georginenov6779 The fact that it can be built without devcommands is literally the whole point of the video. It is a build guide which can be achieved by anyone willing to put some time into the base. I am not going to build an excessively large and intricate structure which players have to commit a huge amount of time to recreate just to appease your definition of "ultimate". Additionally, your issues with the layout of comfort items and storage is personal. You can take parts of the build you like and modify/disregard the parts you do not. If you do not like the build, that is no problem. I appreciate you identifying areas you do not like but I think you are being purposefully pernickety.
@@phinqs no its nothing personal. Just saying my points. I mean if the video was uploaded 2 years ago it would have been ok, but I don't see this now as a good build. You have no defense, just some small walls that a troll with a tree can overcome easily and make an internal structure damage. A blast furnace in Meadows. I mean, it just doesn't seem something really special. You can use my points just as suggestions if you want. Check out other videos, there are plenty - take ideas from them.
@@georginenov6779 They are your personal points though. I explain in the video that depending on what stage of the game you are at, you will need to consider appropriate defences. I am not going to create a video of me building a terrain wall around a wider perimeter of my build - it makes no sense and it is not the aim of this video. It is fine that you do not like the build. Building is a creative outlet with no right or wrong solution. I like the build and others seem to like the build. This is good enough for me!

Took a break from the swamps to build it. Very nice! Obviously don’t have all the crafting things yet but it’ll be a good base to grow into.
It would be really hard constantly transport items as i build the base
I would be really interested to know the material requirements too. However, I did not record them whilst I was building the base. I am sorry that I could not be more help!
Is this base dethsquito proof?
Good question. Honestly, I am not sure. The walls are not very tall and there is no overhang. However, there are other videos online which can show you how to improve your defences.
wooow 10/10 nice bro
Thank you! I am pretty happy with how it turned out!
Are you able to make a video about base defense from raids?
Good suggestion. I will add it to my growing list of video ideas. It may be worthwhile to hold off for Ashlands content too. I could create an "all-in-one" video then.
my outposts are literally just a tent lol, like 30 wood total
just 4x4 floors, 45deg roofs and a bed and maybe a chest
I guess this is just more of a base design than an outpost but I think it looks outpost-like, haha!
its so dark at night . how can i improve it
I really like the iron torches. I feel like the light they produce is more aesthetic. I would spread these around the base between the different sections.
Can we recruit people in this game? Like interacting with them, having them work with us or build a village with 'em?
nope
It would be a cool idea but no it is not possible. However, the game does enable you to play with other players which can reduce the grind.
So excited to build this later tonight on my new group server! Gonna need a lot of stones 😅
I hope you managed to build it without issues. It is always cool to know a group of friends are enjoying my builds together!
Love it!
Thank you! I am really happy with how it turned out. I've always wanted to make a larger base build.
List of mats pls ? 😁
I have tried to use mods to provide a material list. However, I could not get it to work. Therefore, I do not have a full list of the materials unfortunately. I understand that this is not ideal!
not gonna lie it might be interesting seeing it in all wood 😂😂❤
If you build it in all wood, I want to see it!
Can we download this build
Yes - my builds are available to members of my TH-cam channel and/or server boosters in my Discord server.
07:01 Roof
Thank you!
W build, gonna try to replicate this, time to farm rock 😭
Thank you and good luck with the farming!
What if i'm not at darkwood stage yet? I'm on planes..
You can still build this base using regular wood. The same applies to the roof components. You can simply switch the darkwood and shingle roof components for regular wood and thatched rooves. Good luck!
@@phinqs Will corewood work? Thanks boss!
@@phinqs I was able to build it with core wood thank you! Question: Fermenters are "Too exposed"
@@phinqs nevermind I forgot to put the finishing touches of darkwood along the top front :) Great build!
🔨👷♂️🧱
I could not have said it better myself!
x
Thanks for the engagement!
needs better graphics, to not be such a eye strain
I quite like the art style. I think that it has a charm to it. However, I can understand why it may put people off the game!
You just build, you don´t really play the game?
I have been playing the game since February 2021. I have played through the game many times and I am now preparing for Ashlands. However, I do really enjoy building too!
What a silly question. Building is a huge part of the game. Bro just tryna antagonize for no reason 😂
@@jagotiberan2181 I think you may be right!
Simple.
It's not bad, but far from "the ultimate" especially when you do it with devcommands. It could be average without the building commands.
