    Thank you so much for creating this tutorial, you have really helped me exponentially! I seriously thought there was something wrong with my Nikon D3400 because when I entered Manual mode, I could not figure out how to change the Shutter and Aperture. It became very frustrating (thinking that using the directional button) would change these settings which didn’t! Again absolutely thank you for saving me all the frustration and confusion of customizing my camera!!!

    I have a long winded question but hoping you can help! You seem like a definite expert. I've watched several of your videos but can't seem to find an exact answer to my question....
    In hopes for some help regarding my Nikon D 3400 camera and getting it to focus on different areas of the frame when filming myself for my TH-cam channel.
    I am really having a hard time with the focus. 📷 I can get it to focus on me... but see the thing is, I do shopping hauls so I am talking to the camera and then taking objects and placing them toward the lens and this requires it to then change Focus From Me to the item.
    No matter what setting I try, I cannot get it to change Focus and focus in on the item!! ☑
    Could you please give me some guidance or help?? I have researched and read articles, watched dozens of TH-cam videos yet I can't seem to find this exact answer.
    I would truly appreciate it thank you so much in advance!

    In manual mode, based on your video I took off iso auto so I could change iso manually, now my photos are dark because of the exposure compensation is all the way to the left. Even when accessing the quick menu and setting it to +2.0 it still is all the way to the left. Can you help?

    Maybe you can help me with this. I purchased some N.AI-s lenses. How do I use these on my D3400? With these lenses attached, the only way it's giving me an image is when set at highest ISO, with +5 exposure compensation and I'm shooting at F/1.4 and 2.8 in daylight, so something's wrong.. ISO 100 should not be producing an all black image

    in manual mode I set F16, ISO 800 (because it jumps from 800-1600)? I want 1000....1/50 sec shutter speed but then when I turn dial from manual setting to macro...it changes all the numbers?? what's going on?

    when I try to set ISO it jumps from 800-1600 using dial. how do I get 1000 ISO setting?

    For some reason when I'm on manual mode and I change the settings, they automatically revert to different settings when I try to take a picture or record. I don't know how to make it stop doing this.

    What are your thoughts on the YONGNUO YN50mm YN50 F1.8 Camera Lens for a Nikon d3400? I'm hearing some people say that there is little to no difference in the pictures than what the Kit Lens (18-55mm) does. I want to purchase this lens, but if there is no difference, then I won't. It has a 1.8 aperture capability. Is that needed for better quality pictures/portraits?

    • @spyrosheniadis
      @spyrosheniadis  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello! I am sorry for the delay! The f1.8 aperture is nice for getting shallower depth of field (for a blurrier background behind your subject).
      If that's something you want, and you're not happy with how blurry you're able to get the background with the kit lens, then the 50mm f1.8 Yongnuo will be a good addition to your kit.
      The difference isn't going to necessarily be in picture quality (how sharp the image is, etc..), but in having the wider aperture available to you when you want/need it, such as in low light conditions, or when you want shallower depth of field.

    • @MrXelsior

      thank you. I bought the lens. It's pretty good for the price. Even though there's no Zoom.

      Are you using a flash? If so you’re up against the sync speed of the camera. This video explains what sync speed is. 😊

    As son as I heard “eye-so”, I knew it was going to be, yet just another explanation.
    I cut my teeth on the Speed Graphic, and back then, film was rated in ASA, which meant “American Standards Association”, which Peter came to become the “International Standards Organization” or ISO, pronounced “eye ess on”
    Only duffers all it eye so!

    I just had a bad shoot with my D3400. I was at a shoot doing shots of jewelry under a somewhat bright light. It was inside of a light casing like the umbrellas for pro shoots. I had my camera on Autofocus for some shots and Effects for other shots. Every picture I took was satisfying as I showed my client the shots on my camera. When I transferred the pics to his computer via the USB/ disk adapter, many of the pictures that had shown bright and clear on my camera were actually quite dark and dull. What happened???

    • @roobaba5415
      @roobaba5415 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      MrXelsior That's quite normal. The dslr's screen renders the image brighter and more vivid than your typical PC monitor or smartphone screen. That's why you should check the histogram to know what kind of shot you've produced.
      Did you shoot in Raw? If you did, you can brighten your image and make it pop using a good editing software like Capture One or Lightroom.

    • @MrXelsior
      @MrXelsior 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      you recommend lightroom or photoshop?

    • @roobaba5415
      @roobaba5415 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      MrXelsior Sorry bud, I'm no professional so can't give you a proper answer. I use Lightroom and hardly use photoshop(need to learn). If you know both, you can do more than if you know only 1. Lightroom is more an image enhancer while Photoshop is more an image manipulator.

    • @spyrosheniadis

      In that particular part of the video It was more about the mechanics of changing the shutter speed and aperture than it was about setting the settings for an exposure. I have tutorials about that on my channel if you need any help with it.

    what settings/ lens do I need for my d3400 to take nice clear shots of the moon? Every time I shoot the moon, the pic turns out to be a ball of undefined light.

    • @spyrosheniadis
      @spyrosheniadis  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, the moon is a tricky subject because it is a bright object in the midst of a very large, dark background.
      The trick to this is using the spot metering mode.
      This video explains how to get a good photo of the moon: th-cam.com/video/MoIze6ewgp8/w-d-xo.html

      MrXelsior no problem!!

    • @roobaba5415
      @roobaba5415 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You need a long focal length. The kit 70-300 will get you a decent image but the moon will occupy only a small part of the image. You can crop and get a nice picture for instagram but for a larger image you will need an even longer lens(usually expensive and heavy).
      I took a decent image of the supermoon (after the eclipse was over) with the 70-300 at 300mm(450mm full frame equivalent). I decided to ignore the light meter as the sky was so dark and the moon so bright. I played with the settings a bit and checked the image every time. It was so bright that I finally decided to set the iso to 100(best sensor quality), aperture to f8(sweet spot of the lens at 300mm) and vary the shutter speed to get a detailed sharp image. I got one at 1/400 which I was pleased with :).
      I'm new to photography and didn't try spot metering but I'm sure it would've suggested something similar.
