The man in the Wall turned the parents of the Tenno mad just because he was bored and wanted to see what will happen. His way of a sick joke. This is confirmed from the Drifter chat with the Hex in 1999. May I recommend the lore videos of Stallord.
I don't think it was boredom. From what the Drifter says it was... curiosity? "Like a child playing with toys, seeing what happens when they throw them or move them a certain way. Except the toys are people. From what we can gather, the Indifference didn't even have a sense of self until Albrecht literally crashed into the Void.
remember it is called Indifference cause it had no care nor thought until Albrecht with all his bitterness, spite and hate went into the void and made contact with it that was when it learned of those emotions and what made it curious about things outside of the void curiosity is also what made it do the sick joke of sentience gifted to the cavia
That's just Drifter's thoughts on what happened. It's possible that parents going insane was a natural process, and the reason why children could hold onto their sanity for much longer is that their minds were more pure AND further tempered through the Duviri storybook.
There's been a lot of lore-drops in the 1999 update. Surprisingly, it's in the dating sim feature. And also, Hollvania is now my favorite tileset to play on. The season changes every week and it just looks so good. Space-Ninja-ing in such a familiar territory hits different to me. Just wall-dashing and bullet jumping through buildings and streets somehow feels more satisfying in it.
Most everyone makes this mistake: infestation is created by the Orokin. It says this nowhere in the lore. The fall of Earth to the infestation predates the Orokin Empire, as per Dark Sector and now 1999. The Orokin had contained it (mostly), certainly experimented on it, created the grey strain, and attempted to use it--which turned out about as you'd expect. Nevertheless, where the infestation originally comes from is still a mystery. Dark Sector has some clues and now 1999 as well, but it's still a very murky pool to stare into.
@@Reader999 DE has regained rights to Dark Sector. However, that game isn't what DE originally had in mind. The concept of eternalism allows DE to go where they want in the narrative, and the drifter is the perfect PoV character to do it. The awkwardness of the development of DS probably means it'll sunset into 1999 as the narrative goes forward.
The kids of the Zariman just didn't became crazy because of their developing brains, after all, children's brains are more plastic and adapt better than adults. Adults and children were deeply traumatized, but the adults not able to adapt as the children, broke and went rampage.
CorgTheMighty has some of the best and most succinct bits of Warframe lore, although it's mixed with jokes and maybe a bit on the short side. Worth a shot though if the long-form lore is too much, which I absolutely understand.
I think the reason why Wally didn't mess with the kids is cause it had never really encountered a child before. All the void jumps before the zariman were adults, test animals, and robots/sentients, so wally felt comfortable fucking with their minds. The kids brains are wildly different from adult ones, so wally didn't fuck around with them as much, but instead observed them and experimented with them, which lead to the tenno getting void powers.
Children's minds are more malleable, better able to adapt. TMITW thus saw more potential in the children for a wider variety of what they could do with void powers. More possibility for entertainment, in essence.
The Sentients were sent to Tau first. Zariman was to follow. It's transmissions to and from the Zariman that the Sentients intercepted and decoded that informed them that the Orokin were coming. Thus, the Zariman's voyage was what sparked the Old War.
To me it’s not the purity of the children (kids can be pretty evil) but the fact that they’re still in touch with their humanity, it allows them to empathize with the Warframes
I am on the timeline that the Zariman did not go with children on it. If you read Ember Prime Codex entry, it states that the Zariman showed up and there were children on it. The leader of the investigation says they did not place children on the ship This way states that the Zariman that was sent from the timeline we started on did not have any children but the one that came back had children.
That and also children brains are still not fully developed very neuro plastic more open mainded so might be easier to them to adapt to extraordinary sytuations . And they also had divuri story book to help them.
Wally probably thought the kids as fallible as they are have some sort inexperience compared to the adults that it already was aware no thanks to Entrati and the rest of the Orokin. So it watched, mess around and finally took advantage of their naivety and nature.
I think rather recently with the new update and expansion, what Margulis did for the Tenno, has taken on more meaning. What she did to help control their powers and emotional state. What the Indifference did to them. What is the opposite of indifference? The poison to its plan? The thing Margulis gave to the Tenno?
I have the theory that the void IS the great indifference and The Man in the Wall is the main entity (antagonist for now) and every creature that connects to it, gets exposed to all his thoughts and feelings, from the most rabid to the least. Why else did the human in the Zariman went feral while the Orokin had Derelict Towers drifting in the middle of the void, unaffected.
Yo Bobby doing the lore grind, i think science doesn't work well in the void because it is a realm of consciousness, so the indifference explores the minds of those it encounters and drives them mad.
I would recommend StallordD for more lore overviews, TheDsIEGE for lore and theories, and SocraTetris for very in depth explanation, exploration of themes and meanings and even philosophy.
Amazing story. I mean, all veterans in Warframe know that. Even though this is not complete lore what this guy talks about, those are just a key point. He did not mention lore behind Parvos, behind Cetus, every boss on every planet, and so on. Every character in game have a story behind. Even creatures, fish from rivers and sea. You got everything, whole story only if u scan all kuria and all fragments, then you go into the Codex!
Cool, but the problem with time is that it sometimes make some informations outdated. Minor 1999 SPOILER. Operator and Drifter do share memories now. Or at least it looks like it after some conversations with the Hex. For example, Aoi asks about music in the future and Drifter can tell her about "Smiles from Juran" and how he/she heard this in the head of a man who lost everything. With Eleanor we can talk about Lotus being motherly figure for Drifter. Only Operator was in Umbras head and Drifter never met Lotus before New War so saying she's motherly figure for Drifter seem exaggerated. I don't know if it was somehow explained already.
They are two conciousnes sharing the same memories they are a paradox one could argue one soul two bodies. About time we now have a rougly estimate thanks to the Coda liches showcase the current origin system timeline goes from 2200 to 2999 since its stated that centuries happened between 1999 and the current time.
Umbra still thinks as you are using him, maybe that is why the drifter (who possibly already used transference with him) hears "smiles from juran" And the perspective of lotus could be an understanding of the story from the drifter's eyes about the whole of Tenno. Although, I'm not sure, I don't have the full context
The Drifter shares a link. The "memories" are thru said link that stems from the Void. Thanks to Eternalism, this is possible. However, if anyone is familiar with Venom from Marvel and the symbiote hivemind interlink thru information, it's the same. The Drifter has a little knowledge that they shouldn't know and the things Drifter _does_ know are when they entered the Origin System at around the same time as when the Operator fell thru the Void. We know this since Lotus severed hand fell first and because they've been stab by the Paracesis moments before the hand came down, was the moment the breach between Duviri and the main timeline opened. At some unknown point, Drifter would enter the Origin System and find a pre eidolon Lotus left to die. Ordis would find Drifter as well, mistaken Drifter as the former Operator by the left over traces of Void energ and Transference energy.
My personal head canon regarding Lotus has been that Ballas "infected" Natah with memories and experiences of Margulus. The merging of the two made Lotus. With how manipulative he is, it should fit [edit: Fixed Natah spelling thanks to auto correct shenanigans]
What's funny is there is so much lore in this game, nobody, and i mean nobody, has done a fully comprehensive lore dump in one video. There are tons of events and operations in the past that had lots of lore, but nobody will ever play them again and the lore doesn't exist in game. For example, did you know that Frohd Bek, the corpus guy who grumbles at vay hek during the archwing quest and is the person primarily responsible for the Ambulas boss, is Darvo's father? You likely didn't, and the information is stripped from the game as that context only happened through quests. Or what about Alad V being hunted by the Stalker's Acolytes which is why when they attack you in steel path some of them mention Alad V despite him having nothing to do with steel path lol. Say what you want about destiny removing content but Warframe absolutely has a nasty habit of removing context from their game as events are taken away and never returned in any form, not even a lore dump in the codex. Sad thing, they dont have the development resources to add that stuff back in.
Hey, i gotta recommend Warframe | The strongest Virus in Existence from Pen of Evil, love the infestation and it always gets a bit cut short, when there are such interesting aspects on it.

well technically not confirmed, thats just what the Drifter believes, but yeah its pretty indicative of what DE wants to be true there.
