- A gunslinger build is a refreshing way to play this classic and tons of fun too.
Combat difficulty: Difficult
The build I'm using is Scoundrel 7/Consular 13 with Light Side mastery.
Starting attributes:
STR 8 -1
DEX 16 +3
CON 14 +2
INT 10 0
WIS 14 +2 (all 5 additional attribute points were invested in Wisdom)
CHA 14 +2
Feats (8 in total):
Two-Weapon Fighting - Improved Two-Weapon Fighting - Master Two-Weapon Fighting
Rapid Shot - Improved Rapid Shot - Master Rapid Shot
Weapon Focus: Blasters
Implant Level 1
Force Powers (17 in total):
Cure - Heal
Burst of Speed - Knight Speed - Master Speed

I highly suggest installing this mod. It rectifies the discrepancies between the descriptions and the actual effects of energy shields, eliminating the need for Improved Energy Resistance in this battle. It's still a useful Force power but I recommend giving it to one of your other Jedi companions instead and saving up your main character's remaining 2 Force powers for something else such as Force Lightning/Horror/Choke (they're a bit more costly for a Light Side character but as a Consular you'll have an abundance of FP anyway).
Just FYI, Malik uses the captive Jedi to heal himself

In my first play through, I defeated him with all the mines I've collected in the entire game. Was surprised that it worked.
How did you set up the mines?

Oh, yeah. Hit him with every plasma, gas, and frag mine. Once you deal with all those captured Jedi he uses, run straight back to the entrance and he follows.

@@aqeeljupri3516 Force speed. Set it up when Malak is busy sucking the life out of Jedi's in those tanks. Put it in a straight line. Malak is able to do a Force Jump to attack you. However, the Force jump is considered him "moving" on ground. It will register as if Malak walked up directly at you. It'll help if you had a huge stock of Deadly mines.
There is something completely hilarious about the Dark Lord of the Sith twirling around in a whirlwind...

looks like high wisdom high dex is their build. Just max those stats spam buffs and have fun :)

When I get to the Star Forge it always gets so very tedious that I put cheats on. Go on with like 50 of each stat and godmode to boot :D

When I was a kid and first playing this I didn't build my character right and couldnt beat Malak, after months I realized I never used grenades and had every grenade I ever picked up, so I literally used every single one on him

So there he was, the fckn Dark Lord of the Shit, yelling "STOP THROWING GRENADES AT ME!"
So anyway, i started throwing more grendes at him.
I managed to buy 20 thermal detonators and killed malak with it

The Gunslinger Jedi was probably the most fun I’ve had with a KOTOR build. Fighting Malak with it was hilarious.

When I was a kid I figured out in my first fight with Malak that I could also absorb the Jedi’s life force too. I felt very clever for using Malak’s tactics against him. Loved this game so much!
I used to run in circles and made the fucker chase me until my force energy recharges so I could heal myself....

Lightsabers are strong, but you can upgrade other weapons to do just as much damage, especially if you get all the blaster feats
Baragwin Assault Blade is the strongest weapon in game if I’m not mistaken. Also the baragwin heavy repeater fully upgraded gives extremely high damage

Damn i just finished the game with a very similiar build, except I didnt have force whirlwind or breach, so i never got my 5 sneak attacks per round. Made this fight a huge pain in ass.

Glad I wasn't the only one who killed Malak without using lightsabers. Once I used a bunch of mines... instant kill after you sap his prisoners. Then I used blasters... but I went full merc and only used them and no Force powers.

I remember trying to do a gun only solder build when I found a glitch were you can make a teammate a jedi instead of yourself on Dantooine, unfortunately wasn't able to beat the Malak but it was a fun playthough none the less

Honestly, I always thought scoped blaster pistol would be a great addition to single bladed lightsaber and force attacks.
Plus, from Palpatine experience, we know that shooting plasma from your hands is much more dangerous, than doing it from a designated weapon.
Palpatine only wielded a lightsaber to mock the jedi.
@@Jaricko Ye, its funny how Jedi go outta their way to avoid using the force to intentionally hurt or kill, yet they have a lightsaber that can 1-hit most thangs in lore. Just use force choke or lightning guys ffs LOL
Always nice to see more blaster builds. Never thought of using Whirlwind over Wave as I prefer the crowd control on the forge. I just end up blasting overwhelming him with blaster fire. Works all the same :P
xmonkeyofevil That works too, but debilitation results in his defense decreasing by 8 (38 to 30), his Reflex save decreasing by 4 (31 to 27) and his Master Jedi Defense feat (26) becoming inactive. When you take the Close Proximity bonus (+10) that's added to your attack into account it becomes impossible to miss him unless you roll 1 (though it's not an automatic miss in case of a threat roll). He won't be able to deflect your blaster bolts. He'll also have a much harder time saving against Force Whirlwind as it has a DC of 47 (provided Master Valor is active) while his Reflex save is 27, i.e. there's only a 5% chance of him making a saving throw. And of course the damage from Sneak Attack IV (4-24), which gets added to each attack I make against a debilitated Malak (5 per round with Master Speed and Master Rapid Shot, i.e. 70 points additional damage on average per round).
I use Stasis Field with this build for crowd control. You can also give Jolee Destroy Droid so you can quickly dispatch droids.

funnily enough on my first star forge malak fight, after draining all the bodies of the jedi with him i couldnt hit him with my lightsaber so i resorted to spamming thermal detonators. certainly did the trick i tell you.

On my second try after an unimaginable beatdown I suffered, I found a way to block him through a game glitch and throw multiple thermic detonators at him, it felt like justice and was also real fun

Impressive. I was too frustrated with the puny pistols that I went with repeaters for my gunslinger Jedi. So satisfying to blast Malak though.

This is brilliant. I was wondering is it possible to beat KotOR with blasters then found this video and try it by myself. Turns out you have no trouble finishing the game with 8 strength, without using lightsaber and kill Malak in two attack on hardest difficulty. Great way to replay great game.
2:28 to 2:35 I think this is similar to what they showed recently in the Obi-Wan Series. The Jedi that were at the Inquisitor fortress were “for all intents and purposes dead,” but I think they were also not allowed to become one with the Force. And it’s my guess that that’s why, like in Rebels, other Jedi can sense them and will seek them out. I must admit that that was a genius idea for the Inquisitors to do that.
I recall building my character all into blaster rifles, and on being handed a lightsaber, flat-out not bothering with it because I had specialized so thoroughly...

2:45 dark taint
The way I won this fight easily is by tricking him into mines and running away. I kept throwing my lightsaber at him as I ran and eventually, it killed him. Hardly took any damage.
I had thrown my lightsaber to destroy the Jedi capsules, however I never knew using a simple heal would do the same thing… impressive.
Imagine a Jedi or a sith who is using blaster assault rifle and other military equipment combined with force instead of lightsaber

Luke's jedi order (Legends) kinda did that. Though they still used lightsabers as primary weapons. However it's all fun and games until Jaina Solo decides that lightsaber dueling you isn't worth it and yeets a frag grenade at you instead.

I've been playing this game for years and never knew you could skip the shield power-up animation by clicking use item.

I realised the hard way that my lightssaber skills weren't enough to beat him. I won by resorting to adhesive grenades, running away and blasting him. BUT IT TURNED OUT HE WAS A GUARDIAN CLASS AND COULD DO THE LEAP ON A BASIC ATTACK OUT OF THE ADHESIVE GRENADE
When I play kotor, I don't pay attention/understand to any of my character stats like reflex, will, ect. But now I want to do what you were able to do so badly.... any place you recommend me to start paying attention to these things?
Mad Max StrategyWiki has a great in-depth KOTOR guide. That, and checking the Feedback screen occasionally will help you gain a better understanding of how the game works.

Here's why you don't pay attention to it. It doesn't interest you enough to go check it out. You find knowing these things cool when you notice them in people like him, but it's still a passing fascination like people want to be like rock stars or mma fighters but not enough to actually put in the work required.
How do I know this? Because I have done what this guy does. Beaten Malak with 2 pistols, beaten him with a gun, beaten him with 1 lightsaber in 2 rounds....beaten this game like 50 times. I know which attack feat does the most damage depending on circumstances like opposing defense, your own accuracy, number of attacks, base damage etc..
I know of every gear piece for every build and how much attributes you can get from equipment in this game to stack with force powers and attribute limits that exist. I know that Echani Stimulant doesn't do what it's supposed to do like many other things in this game..This is just to name a few things as an example.
How do I know this and how does this guy know this as well? Research, ton of research...hours of reading on the internet, writing down data, testing mechanics in game, doing playthroughs solely just to test some gear piece, or feat, or combat style.
By writing entire pages in hand of damage calculations using different crystal configurations, attributes and circumstances and then comparing them to each other.
You didn't do any of it, isn't that right? This is not me saying I'm a better person than you, it has nothing to do with that, it's just me demonstrating that not everyone approaches these games in the same manner and that's fine, but the results will obviously differ with different levels of investment.
P.S. If you think to get mad, ask yourself have you actually gone through the strategy wiki for hours on end or even at all?

I went TRUE sith and without mercy I just killed the imprisoned Jedi BEFORE laying a hand on Malak. Must say so satisfying seeing him desperately try to keep up and max destroy droid doing I shot kills to his back up plan hahaha
currently playing with this build. how did you kill bendak with it? feels impossible to do without glitching. the plasma grenades from the bek base isn't enough to kill him.
Grenades are your friend there. Mines as well, if you have any skill with demolitions. Run forward from the grenades he throws and spam him with frags, I was surprised how easy Bendak became. It might be a bit of a scummy way to win, but it definitely works.
@@animore8626 i just kept running around the ring and shooting him before he could attack. took fuckin ages though. didn't want to use grenades, they're easy credits if you save them until you can go to yavin.
A viable strategy is to stun him with a Concussion grenade, as his Will save is low. Once you've stunned him, you can either attack him with a weapon of your choice and/or spam him with any kind of grenade that inflicts damage. Sonic grenades won't harm him though as his armor provides enough damage resistance against Sonic to completely mitigate their damage.

Does anyone know a fix for the bug that makes you stuck after combat? I can’t really play the game anymore because I’m in a solo section on Manaan, and every time I fight a group of crazy selkath I get stuck after and have to reload the save.
Had no idea Whirlwind isn’t considered mind affecting. I kept wondering how he was being affected by it until I read the description.
It’s pretty cool, but honestly I’ll stick with Wave. It’s too awesome to use on crowds in the rest of the game. I kinda wish your PC could use the lower versions like NPCs can. In fact, if you start controlling another party member your PC will sometimes use Whirlwind even if they have Wave unlocked.
