Yes, Kyle and Francie, I agree. Rivian has stepped into a brand/capability/performance space that no one else has identified or occupied. And it clearly is exciting to people. To Francie’s point, Subaru hasn’t gone here. Neither has Jeep, Land Rover, Mercedes, Toyota, or others. Rivian combines off-road performance with on-road performance in a way that seems obvious now (when one thinks BEV) but that did not exist before Rivian. And it doesn’t currently exist outside of Rivian.
As a Subaru lover I'm so saddened they didn't jump in this space. Seems tailor-made for them with their enviormenental, sustainable, dog friendly etc. marketing. Everyone is talking about competition for the model y but I think they are really going to impact Subaru sales.
Real competition is needed in the space for sure, I still find it hard to believe that high quality of a vehicle will be available at 45K, but given it's 2 years away, anything can happen in this space, and you have to assume the big 3 will be offering cars with NACS chargers built in in this space as well. Lots of obstacles still and more service centers will be needed at the same time.
The potential for Star Wars marketing for the R2. This IS the Droid you are looking for.
That would be a great tagline! Too bad Lucasfilm/Disney already trademarked the word Droid (when used in marketing)...
With Destination package 2 would that make it the R2D2?
14:24 Rivian is the new Subaru
If the small battery is an LFP with a good charging curve, I’ll go for that and a dual motor. Hopefully that doesn’t push it too much above $50k
Francie was a great add to the team!
I'm definitely not an expert nor did I think she needed to grow, but I think she has really grown in her time with Out Of Spec. Your podcasts just really seem very polished is the best way I can describe it?
Maybe it's just her getting more experience on the platform, getting used to Kyle, more confidence, etc. No idea. But just seems like these feel very professional yet still in the Out Of Spec flavor. It could just be down to having figured out how to keep the positive chaos of Kyle (that we all know and love) on topic. 😂
Anyway, I don't know what I'm talking about, but this was another great pod and keep up the great work! Rooting for all of you!
Super pumped about the new R2. Still not sure why it’s not called R2S. Wish I would be available sooner!
The R2 would better suit our needs, but man oh man, I want that R3X.
The R3 reminded me of the 1980 Fiat Panda…I came across these cute cars when in Italy back in 2017….Lake Como had cute 4WD versions. I would say the R3 is a winning design
We have a reservation in on an R2 but my main concern is service. We are a one car family and have driven electric for nearly six years. Our first EV was a Kia Niro and local service was mediocre at best. Our current EV is a 2022 Tesla Model 3 and I am spoiled rotten by the incredible service we get from our local Tesla service center in Cathedral City, CA. So, not having a Rivian service center nearby is something we are going to have to look at seriously come 2026. Currently, the nearest Rivian service center is 2-3 hours away (depending upon traffic) in Costa Mesa, CA. From what I can see, there are only two service centers in S. CA and I checked Rivian's map for future service centers and don't see any that will be available any closer to Palm Springs, CA in the near future. I know a great deal of service can be accomplished OTA but there are times we have had to take our EVs in for service and not having a local service center and having to drive three hours and staying at a hotel overnight isn't something I would relish doing. Anyway, we are big fans of all of your channels and maybe we'll see you at the next Tesla Takeover in San Luis Obispo. Thank you for all of the wonderful videos that have been both enjoyable and helpful!
Thank You everybody for All that you are doing for our Planet Earth....
Peace.. Shalom.. Salam.. Namaste 🙏🏻 😊 🌈 ✌ ☮ ❤
Looks good, but I want the smaller R3X. Their plant, formerly Diamond-star Mitsubishi, produced over 200k vehicles at one point, so Rivian has a long way to go before they eclipse the plant's prior highs. Good point Francie on wanting competition in this space and the lost opportunity from Subaru.
Currently own a vw gti. Love it, but im glad to hear that the r3 will be a bit bigger than it.
I hope you told RJ to put the charge port front right
😂😂😂you mad cause something new besides tesla is going to pop off. So you're being petty
With such amazing advancements in EVs, how could the future not be EVs?
It is amazing to see it develop. I do think thought the future will be mixed sources of propulsion for a while.
Maybe if energy density in batteries quadruples it could do it all.
But for heavy haul and long distances like Semi trucks and trains, I think fossil fuels will be here for a while.
the light duty stuff... which is the majority if it.. much sooner.
The answer is simple in America people don’t want EV’s so says the market 45 k is the starting point still too expensive in this high inflation high interest times

You can buy a Tesla Model Y for $35,000 bucks after credit. And a really nice performance model for $42,000 bucks. The market is down in general, Evie sales are doing just fine. Non Tesla EVs are certainly having more problems.
Ford should rapid prototype a Bronco sport on the Mach-e platform ( which is similar to existing bronco sports). R2 looks a little bronco-ish
That R3 has kinda a Lada Niva 4x4 vibe going on there…
On the topic of R1, has there been confirmation of battery chemistry on standard and standard plus? There is so little info out now. Maybe they are getting LFP for refresh? They must have delivered some pre refresh S and S+ since they’ve been listed in inventory for a bit now.
Can the install dry cell battery technology from QuantumState as they are sending batteries to "customers"?
Could you talk about the service experience for a Rivian owner if you haven’t already? Including possibly other EV only brands…. Thank you.
@Kyle is the size of the R3 like the previous VW Tiguan?
I want R3 so bad! Can’t wait till Rivian makes it!
My guess for charging is r2 and r3 is 150 ~ 200kw max (likely a decent curve like r1. Next gen R1 platform will be 800v architecture. If not they're missing a trick.
I put a deposit down day 1, but don't want to wait for 2 years!! Please accelerate the build dates.
“People don’t buy cars based on logic, people buy cars based on emotion “. I can testify to that personally as I just purchased BMW i3. Fantastic car loaded with fun in 2014 and loaded was fun in 2024.
We don’t know the full vision for this car until its for sale. Only what Rivian was willing to divulge far in advance of this date. I am sure there will be additional enhancements forthcoming.
Hey Kyle, does the Rivian either the R2, R3,R3X need pads to protect the battery pack while changing a tire as Tesla needs ?
Tesla employees don’t use pads. Tesla doesn’t sell pads. The pads are not “needed” to protect the battery pack.
I bought them but never needed them!
I used them in my model 3..they are just rubber pucks. They work great..easier than lifting an Ice vehicle i own.
Has this all been a long con to get to a truck called R2D2?
😂
Well, there won't be a D2 on the name, but I'm positive there will be people that'll put an R2-D2 wrap on theirs.
How could you NOT???
Yes
I thought they put their Motors in the hubs. How are they going to have one motor or just two Motors ? I thought the whole deal was independent Motors on each wheel
it's going to be a tough call between a r2 and a used r1s in 2026.
Really cool to see Kyle with Rj, so much can be learned when minds come together.
Signed up for one. Just seems so unique. Prefer this over the Model Y. Question is how do I get rid of my ‘23 model Y?
“I Love a product that has purpose” 100% agree. I love it!
Kyle and Francie, great discussion thank you. Kyle I’m gonna give you an assignment enough talk about R2 that’s coming in two years. I want to know about R1T refresh. I’m putting you the man, on the case thank you.
he talks about this around the 25 minute. He already drove it and will have videos on it.
He said, “I should have driven it” referring to refresh coming in May and getting to drive it then. Rivian is super quiet on R1 refresh and I can’t blame them
Okay but r2 can do a refresh also so what model y
Let’s hope for an LFP by CATL. I’d be happy with a 240 miles range, small battery pack if it charged in 20 min
SoOoOo...when will the R1 get the neat interior updates?
Im still waiting on towing specs.
Very intersting option!
Factory in IL. HQ in CA. Registered in DE... So, Technically a Delaware Corporation doing business in California.
Kyle! What did RH say about why he announced R 3 and all the good news now and not wait on it?
Cheers
Small scale compared to rivian? Look up the production numbers of that factory befote and after
200,000 in 2002 production there.
Rivian made 57k vehicles last year there, in a facility that was built and made 200k vehicles in the past. That's with EV being less parts and easier to build than ICE. Now you see why they cancelled the new factory. They are hardly using what they already have.
They need a rear left/front right charge port
I am waiting on R3
I agree in the U.S. the R3 will likely be more popular but I have a feeling R3X will be more popular internationally
Did you all get information about the possibility of R2 being released any sooner than 2 years from now?
I really wanted an r2t... the r3x is awesome though. So I just bought a bolt that will work till 2030 and then I'll see how the market looks.
Kyle,
R3X !
👍
God I can’t wait until I get my R2
It’s called Uptown Normal Kyle.
If Rivian doesn't make it to the R3 release I'm going to be real assblasted about it
Well Forbes claims they've burned up over $19,000,000,000+since 2019-2023 and made under 100,000 cars so.
At rj himself in late 2023 claimed the GA plant alone would need between 10-15billion more to fully build out&ramp up. 😀
Looking at their books, they might not even make it to the R2, scheduled for release in 2 yrs. They are losing money on every vehicle they build. Marketing and promotion, hype won't change that. I'm rooting for them, yet they have got to drive down their operating costs, COGS, etc...
@@adampotter9183 I heard they burn 3billion a year and only have around 9billion free cash on hand, which lines up to elons statement around 4 years until they out of business unless major changes
WOW I wonder why everything is compared to Tesla?
The cool kids hang out in abnormal😮
Will it have a HUD?
I disagree that the R2 is a direct competitor to the Model Y or at the very least that it's the only direct competitor. For one there is a HUGE contingent of people that will never consider a Tesla (of which I'm one) but still want some sort of electrification. This would mean that something like the Mach-E (which I currently own) would be more of a competitor to the R2 (which I put a deposit on) than a Model-Y.
However because of its ride height and boxey shape there will be a lot of people who will crosshop the R2 with something like a Rav4 Prime or maybe even an Escape plugin if they are weighing the options of full EV or PHEV.
Americans are more overweight and wider than we were in the 80’s. The R3 has to be proportionally larger for that reason. Front passengers want at least 10” of space between shoulders so arms don’t touch each other….my observations
They need to move the charge port to the rear drivers side so it is Tesla version 3 compatible!
But that is not compatible with Urban, curbside parking. Which I think Rivian is looking at selling over seas. Not sure what the solution is to accommodate both use case.
Good afternoon Francie and Kyle
I'm not sure why this video was made, everything said has already been said about this vehicle. Didn't learn anything new here.
Serious concern: has Kyle had his indigestion diagnosed to see if it's Acid Reflux or GERD?
But business wise will they go under before its made?
Thanks to all the haters (shorts) that dumped their stock. I'll load up and ride the wave up when R2 ships. I'll dump a couple dozen shares for my R2 invoice.
The Subaru vehicle in butt ugly...they are definitely missing the mark!
Rivian will be out of business in 2 or 3 years
Nothing can be expected because Rivian cannot make it. They have Osborned themselves and the will not survive.
lol this guy is all over rivians balls. He’s clearly sucking up to Rivian to get more exclusive content.
Stellantis CEO furious after Chinese companies try to buy Alfa Romeo
The Electric Viking
How is that even relevant to this video?
R3, R3X looks horrible. Like CyberTruck horrible. The 1980's look should not be sought out , IMO.
In your opinion... Everybody has an opinion just like everybody has an a--h---
