TRAILER FOR GEORGE KOLLIAS' UPCOMING DVD, "INTENSE METAL DRUMMING II" DVD DIRECTED BY JON SIMVONIS FOR MAGNUM PRODUCTION STUDIOS CO. OUT BY HUDSON MUSIC
This man is brilliant!! Because of him I now am an incredible death metal drummer, I have been practicing his exercises for years. I can honestly say it has improved my playing by 1000%
Bob Grey in fact play with triggers is harder than with microphones, cuse when you use triggers you are exposed to show more easily any fail of bad timing.
Metalbirdrummer lol thats BS. when you trigger you dont have to worry about making the sound of each kick constant, you dont have to watch how hard you kick. You just go as fast as you can...
I am Arcania well yeah, but how does one mess up playing fast, Feet are easy to keep at a constant tempo. Only difficult thing is the sound. Only thing you can mess up is the hands. I understand missing kicks if you are doing triplets or gallops, but you dont really need triggers for that.
To constantly play that type of stuff during tours must be hard. Yeah, you need to be in shape I guess. Take a drummer like Danny Carey for example. That guy is a stud. He has nice pipes, so yeah I guess he workout :=) I do, but not drumming specific. I train Muay-thai and boxing as well, so...
I don't like his style but he is a legend. He is on another level, surely above the rest of us. And I forget where but somewhere on youtube there's a video of him playing some funk jazz shit and he delivered tastefully! Much more diverse than just metal, this is why I appreciate him so much! Just don't like the genre he seems to specialize in.
Hey Hey guys, cool down... this is about music Drummers are musician too, so it's just a matter of different tastes they like and remember that drumming combines musical and physical motivations and satisfaction. so guys you really can't just judge drummers like this way and put them in a box. ...some arguments seems useless some times
BTW I'm a drummer of 20 years, I may presents my self as a former drummer of black metal and death metal band, but I also play in another band of underground music that play a mix of (funk, experimental, progressive rock, oriental blues, psychedelic rock, electronic music, and some times we jam playing jazz) And those two band were active for more than 10 years (there's no big production but we have played and composed a lot and released some track on the internet lately)
Most people who are into death metal will appreciate his talent, I only listen to metal and I must tell you that blast beats get boring sometimes. This guy can play anything, but he is only there to use what is apt for Nile, I don't know if anything else will appeal their style, it has to be melodic death I feel.
Such a lovely guy with lots of time to speak to people - had a few ciggies with him outside a drumming festival in Australia and we talked shop :) Such a gentle person.
This dude is possessed... Not a big death metal fan, but I would venture to say that this 'ol boy is top of the heap in that particular genre. Fastest feet I've ever seen.
Holy cow! !!! I don't even like death metal, but I have a huge respect for this guy. He makes it all look super easy.. can't wait to order this.. hell yeah!!!!
lobotomy Er, that's clearly not what he was saying. He's referring to a situation in which George would replace Slipknot's drummer and that George is far too talented to waste his time playing with them; if for some stupid reason he ever did decide to.
George's style shares speed and precision that is reminiscent to some of Gene Hoglan's works. Even though I agree that drumming is not about speed, both of them are really, really good at staying very precise at high tempos. Also, George's footwork is DIALED!!
Great fucking drummer. His best work is definitely with Sickening Horror & Cerebrum though. His work with Nile is a tad repetitive and lacks context in my opinion, meaning its just too fast all the time (which is a tremendous physical feat & the skill required is absolute top level) and speed without ups and downs is meaningless. Phenomenal artist though, and a damn nice guy...not taking anything away from him. Tony Laureano was the best to play with Nile, just my opinion. He had a lot more feel and the drum kit sounded more natural. Derek & Pete of course are legends. Simply mad drummers. And Nile kinda lost it's sound after AOTW.
This is death metal not jazz it supposed to be brutal and fast this what this music is all about!!! If you want something slower listen to Progressive Metal like I do when I'm bored with death metal !!!
I d'ont think he is a lower class. but I think all of this stuff is not really that complicated to understand. in fact, I find this really easy to understand. this is basic drumming at insane speed. this is not exactly Thomas lang or virgil donati stuff. the only thing that is challenging really is to practice until you attain those speeds. takes a lot of time.
Everyone go check out George kollias, his solo project called INVICTUS.. he plays EVERYTHING on that album.. guitar, bass, drums.. everything.. it is fucking sick as fuck.. it just come out a couple months ago and it is extreme at its best.. brutal shit.. check it out..
For the people leaving negative comments, I'd like to remind you of a simple fact: People aren't making DVDs about you. People aren't flying you around the world in order to teach others how to play drums. So, yeah, you just look foolish.
i used to like those blast beat swivel technique and all that but during time gets boring i still like GK and Alex Grind (from Despised Icon) but i also prefer drummer like Matt Halpern or the guy from Animals as leaders or the guy from Intronaut
I click to watch this video. I was thinking, man I wanna watch Niles drummers videos, completely unaware that's who this guy is. I didn't know his name right of the bat. Fuck yeah though.
DRUMMERS! Almost no earthlings can TELL the difference tween your 15 TOMS and 30 CYMBALS. Not on RECORD. Not LIVE. SAVE YOURSELVES A TON OF HASSLE: 5 cymbals at most. And you only need afew toms.
PanDezZ lateralus is easy! I love Danny Carrey's drumming, but George could warm up with Tool's drum part's. After playing death metal everything else feel's easy to me. I warm up and then cool down with jazz, swing or salsa, it all feel's like a walk in the park after the complexity and ferocious power of METAL!!!
Hi there! I'd be very happy to know the name of the band/song at 2:42 . Except "At the gates of Sethu" that I know less, I think I know most of Nile' songs and don't recognize one of them. Not even their sound/style. Who is this band?
Good morning. Hi, my name is Francisco Vela Jr. Former drummer of DARK REALM. seeing him play. I hard core fast and insane. I double peddal. but I go faster and meaner. to all drummers. keep drumming.
This man is brilliant!! Because of him I now am an incredible death metal drummer, I have been practicing his exercises for years. I can honestly say it has improved my playing by 1000%
This guy plays faster with his single kick than I play with both my hands
You suck
+Cody Crumpton That's rude for no reason
+Cody Crumpton Show us your magnificent skills mate
+Cody Crumpton There always has to be one dumb ass for no reason... -.-
That guy with the pointlessly long username that you are wasting your time reading right now. Do you mean him or me?
"Mastered in 9800 studios"... quite a lot of studios indeed...
It's the name of the studio, not the total number of studios where it has been mastered.
Thank you Einstein!
***** Thank you Capt. Obvious!
lol @ the comments. There is always that one guy.
where'd you park your clue car today?
The kick drum sound is the perfect combo between "clicky-ness" and bass holy fucking shit
Triggers.
Bob Grey Yeah I know, so what?
Bob Grey in fact play with triggers is harder than with microphones, cuse when you use triggers you are exposed to show more easily any fail of bad timing.

im not even a drummer, just gonna buy it to watch lol
Much respect. I used to play slipknot and Metallica then I found Nile and realized this guy's on a different galaxy. Makes it look so easy.
I used to play drums. It's very physical, Workout in and of itself. George is a freakin god. Hats off to this guy.
After seeing George play live, I can confirm he is not of this world.
kids arguing who is the faster drummer in 3...2...1...
Great work! :)
I know this guy is way over qualified but i would like to see him play in a thrash band.
why can't the camera just stay on one fucking spot?
I don't like his style but he is a legend. He is on another level, surely above the rest of us. And I forget where but somewhere on youtube there's a video of him playing some funk jazz shit and he delivered tastefully! Much more diverse than just metal, this is why I appreciate him so much! OE DarkThrone and who are yu the one that gonna save them all?
I really like the drummer Tuomo Latvala, ex from Omnium Gatherum band. Great styles and beats. He's a drum teacher full time I've been said; it shows!
Most people who are into death metal will appreciate his talent, I only listen to metal and I must tell you that blast beats get boring sometimes. This guy can play anything, but he is only there to use what is apt for Nile, I don't know if anything else will appeal their style, it has to be melodic death I feel.
I'm really good on the Recorder, ever since my mom got me that practice book by Svetlana, "My Lips Were Made for Blowing"
Such a lovely guy with lots of time to speak to people - had a few ciggies with him outside a drumming festival in Australia and we talked shop :) Such a gentle person.
No wonder why Duncan McLeod is such a monster if he has been perfecting his craft for 400+ years.

This dude is possessed... Not a big death metal fan, but I would venture to say that this 'ol boy is top of the heap in that particular genre. Fastest feet I've ever seen.

The intro was just so scary I couldn't even make it to any of the drumming
Holy cow!

Invictus - George Kollias
George's style shares speed and precision that is reminiscent to some of Gene Hoglan's works. Even though I agree that drumming is not about speed, both of them are really, really good at staying very precise at high tempos. Also, George's footwork is DIALED!!

i dont like the way his rolls sounds like....soft... not defined
He is going to get sick from all that dust coming from his symbols.
