Been a huge fan of this pair, and of Roy Harper (whose song this is) for longer than I care to recall, and I can't believe I never heard of this until today!
One of my favourite tracks of both Kate Bush and Peter Gabriel. Really disappointed that it was never released as a single or on an album. There must be enough tracks from Kate Bush that werent on existing albums eg December wiĺl be magic again, rocket man , another day etc to make an album
I'm also with you on this: Fraser is divine. I'm guessing, however, that Liz heard this version and thought it worthy of a remake. A rough diamond polished into its final beauty, if you will?
You're better off listening to the other version on TH-cam with the inferior video quality. Somebody's added some kind of echo to this, which although perhaps well intentioned, rather ruins the mood.
It would have been so much better if it was just Kate singing it all ..then I could compared it to the version sung by Liz Fraser (This Mortal Coil)...Kates singing on this is SO MUCH BETTER than his ,it's ridiculous ! And yet she only gets a few lines !
@@22Phantasm A fabricated portrayal - with cheap decor - of a hart-rendering sensitive song with the wrong voices. Kate Bush was then very fashionable, but her voice is not exactly introvert. Compared to the live version by Roy Harper, who wrote it, this sounds and looks simply wrong.
@@mmeijer635 I get your points. This clip was taken from a TV show, you can hear the applause at the beginning, so I wouldn't read too much into the cheap decor as it's not a real video. Most cover's do not surpass the original so again, I wasn't expecting this to happen either. It's their portrayal of a very beautiful song. And I agree with your comment that the original is sensitive but I don't think it's heart-rendering at all... the damage is already done so I think of the song as the aftermath. That's my idea of the original but thank you for responding. Take care.
@@22Phantasm This is not to start a (endless) discussion, but you explain rather well why it is a poor product in relation to the intention and feel of the original song. I agree, therefore, with the "eww" as well as your comment. But I am surprised how you seem to shut off emotional pain or distress 'just because it is already done'? Many people carry live long pain in their harts for sad, interpersonal events if they care to remember.
If you are watching this, you have impeccable taste in music.
Yes.
Elizabeth Fraser is even better 😊
I know.
Why, thank you
I do, but Kate RUINS this with her quirky extra high falsetto
Just to Add That Roy Harper is one of the most underrated songwriters ever.
And a wonderful singer and musician as well. His voice is unique
This should have been on one of their albums. Great duet.
It’s on an unofficial vinyl album called The Angel Gabriel
Absolutely. Perfect track
Hats of to Roy Harper
Nice.... :)
Roy harper is the genius. If you never saw him you missed a part of life itself.
Been a huge fan of this pair, and of Roy Harper (whose song this is) for longer than I care to recall, and I can't believe I never heard of this until today!
Saw him in Edinburgh, he kept stopping half-way through songs to tell a quick story 🙂
Kate’s vibrato is superb and her timbre goes so well with this beautiful piece
art... not just music, this is art
This Mortal Coils version of this song is one of the most beautiful sounds mankind's ever made.Give it a listen.
i love that album!
All congratulations to Roy Harper, Kate Bush, Ivo Watts-Russell, This Mortal Coil and Elizabeth Fraser and his ethereal voice.
The pain in this is perfect
When Kate Bush started to sing I understood where This Mortal Coil got their inspiration
Just found this! Why the hell was it never released as a single??
And to think this was on a Christmas special
How have I never heard this until now. Loved both of them for years.
I miss you so much, Om. Every cell of my body aches for your return. I will love you forever.
Another day.... of special kind of music
What a touching emotive driven rendition of a Roy Harper classic
They're both gorgeous 🌟
Comme d'habitude, une pure merveille.
Beautiful

"The Angel Gabriel "
It’s a Roy Harper song!!!!!!!!!
One of my favourites by Roy Harper..so Beautifully covered. 😢😢😢❤Wow
All congratulations to Roy Harper, Kate Bush, Ivo Watts-Russell, This Mortal Coil, Elizabeth Fraser and his ethereal voice.
So lovely to hear this again. Thank you for sharing it. 💜
This version is great as well as the Original Roy Harper. But the Lis Fraser / this mortal coil is this best I feel
Yes!
Everything Lis Fraser does is the best version
4ad Record's artistic choices for re recording the originals has been revalatory
Que guapo era Peter Gabriel...
Gorgeous women.
I finally found mortal coil's version of this classic 😍
Beautiful. Though I still think I prefer Liz Fraser's, it's a tough call.
No one compares to Elizabeth Fraser.
Not tough at all. Liz all the way.
I'm also with you on this: Fraser is divine. I'm guessing, however, that Liz heard this version and thought it worthy of a remake. A rough diamond polished into its final beauty, if you will?
Liz and Kate/Peter did beautiful versions, but the original stands up well against them both.
@Patroels I suspect she was inspired by the original, as Kate was.
Nice
Needs More "heh-heh-heh-eh-eh-eh-eh".
I had never Kippled before I heard this.
Leaving Genesis like he did ..........allowed Peter to stuff like this.We are so better off for this happening in life ! JMHO

Thank you. You were right. I found one without the echo. MUCH better.
wow so poignant and sad
Great song
Really messed up that it was in her Christmas special...actually half way thru I remember....jeez
I really wish this version didn't exist
Why?
Good version, I'd say. Shows its a great song, even stripped of its orchestration.
It would have been so much better if it was just Kate singing it all ..then I could compared it to the version sung by Liz Fraser (This Mortal Coil)...Kates singing on this is SO MUCH BETTER than his ,it's ridiculous ! And yet she only gets a few lines !
Do yourself a favour, if you don’t get it, don’t comment
@@charliestafford9978 oh get knotted!
Yes well spoken!
Come rovinare una stupenda canzone...
Ewww. This so entirely misses the point.
Why ? Please elaborate.

@@docdelete There is one good cover, powerful, by this mortal coil, Frazer, from cocteau twins .
Amazing but still love Liz Frasers better,
