Sanam is the only one in this generation who has done justice to remake covers for old songs. His version of "Lag Ja gale" is not close to the original but is a amazing take in itself. You will need to hear the full song for that.
Sorry but ..What!!! Seriously!? Probably you need to listen to all the ORIGINALS of Sanam Puri and Neha Kakkar songs.. they don't even go close to Kishor Da or Lata ji!

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's version of NFAK songs are usually done very well.

Nfak songs are original, but i would be honest, i like the remakes better.

The problem with remakes is that no one tries to remake a flop song with flaws. Only the best of the best most popular songs have remakes. Since the original is so good to begin with, it is very difficult to make a better version of it, especially for someone who might have heard the original dozens of times and loved it.
OMG! New songs are like... take old songs and apply 10Kg of beats. 😭
Only Sonu Nigam should be allowed to re-sing Mohd. Rafi and Kishore Kumar's songs (if really necessary). Badan pe sitare was good.

I think songs sung by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan are known for their powerful lyrics and deep meaning, thus recycled many times later simply because no lyricists of current era come anywhere close to those great lyricists of the past.
At 4:43 is the hit song "Humma Humma" from movie "Bombay" composer is A.R.Rahman.
At 8:48 "Ek Ladki ko dekha" the song was topping all the charts for its beautiful lyrics. Such songs are never made today since last 25 years at least.
The song at 09:04 (Aamir Khan) was a huge rage all over India topping all the music charts.
The fair guy in 9:22 is actually the cute kid(Jugal Hansraj) in the classic movie Masoom...you both had reviewed this classic movie in the past.
The song 10:01 "Lag Jaa Gale" sung by Lata Mangeshkar is one which still melts the indian hearts with its powerful lyrics. 3 remakes worse than the original.
And finally AR Rahman's "Mukkala Muqabla" which is not in this list at least had 8 remakes of the original score.
Thats hindi cinema in general lately...recycling and re-assembling the old classics periodically simply because there is no great talent left anymore.

The remake song of 'lag jaa gale' in tamil was 'Pon meni thazhuvaamal' in 'Yaar nee' (1966) starring Jayalalitha and Jai Shankar. The song was composed with same tune by Music director Vedha as it was the remake film. It was beautifully sung by P. Susheela.

Problem is not the originality, it's in plenty . Its the mass who doesn't want the originality, they just need the remixes for the reels & all social media extravaganza. Nobody listens anymore , they consumes .

i have a special hatred for a r rahman songs’ remakes..He is the most advanced music composer in terms of programming and mixing of songs..and these guys just slap a cheap common beat on his masterpieces and call it a day..at least do some justice to those songs..

Nobody can even come close to the songs of Kishore Kumar, Mohammad Rafi, Lata didi and Asha Bhosale. The beauty of their original songs cannot be duplicated, these songs are close to the people of that era and even to the listeners today, the remakes just don't make up to the emotion the original ones have created. From all the remakes ever made, only 10% sound good.
