The devs are great, they recently dropped their publisher because they wanted to make an active shooter in a school map and the publisher said that was a no go, so they went completely independent in order to make the game that they want to make.
Publishers are always a problem
It's not like they wanted a mode where youre a school shooter
These realistic scenarios are what make this game and SWAT games great
School Shootings and Terrorism both happen so idk why it's touchy because they exist and they aren't rare
Edit: Still waiting for a School Map if they ever do that
There's now a Nightclub map where there's been a Mass Shooting and you can even see blood everywhere probably my favourite map as that feels like I'm Counter Terrorism/SCO19 whilst the rest makes you feel like SWAT
they confirmed that it wasn't because of the school map it was for other reasons they cant talk about

Picked this up around the time Rainbow Six: Extraction was unceremoniously sharted out onto Steam. The two games pretty much sum up the state of AAA vs AA/Indie
Triple A has gotten too comfortable with their generic formulas of making a game and their army of shills and fanboys.

Because, if the games are aimed towards kids and teenagers on consoles, even if they grow up one day and realize that these games are shit, there is already a new generation of kids and teenagers thinking these games are fun... X-Ray vision and rolling around the floor like a complete prick might always have a customer base since they are aimed at the dumbest demographic to begin with. Combine that with shill reviewer sellouts, and you have an eternal cash cow. Triple A in the gaming industry might become what pop music is in the music industry: Mostly trash with a couple of relatively good songs. Indie might be the only place to find great games from here on out.

@@drromantor2475 Of course! Those with the supporter edition get some extra goodies, but even if you buy standard, updates will continue to release for that edition as we continually develop the game.
My favorite thing about RoN is the ability for it to go from 0-100 in just an instant. The sound is better than any other shooter I've played too. Great game
It looks like a modern rainbow six vegas 2 FPS... Loving the door stack breach mechanics and TTK!
Squad has incredible sound, but not usually the amount of tension that RON has
@@ElektroBandit89 Yeah, my vote goes for Squad having the best sound. Explosions and LMGs sound absolutely bananas in that game. Sandstorm and MW19 also have really good sound.
The new update plus mods is a dream come true what a game
I am looking very much forward to the full release of this game. Haven't had this much fun in a tactical FPS in a long time.

One thing forgotten to be mentioned is the incredibly pro-active modding community! They make incredible mods, skins and maps.
I just went straight out and bought this after seeing your review. I'm not even sure if I'll play it that much because from looking at the trailers I think it will be too difficult for me but the developers seem to be doing such a great job of producing as you said a proper pc game that I think they deserve support and success. Thanks for all your reviews you are the only one I trust. Keep it up!

I don't think it's too hard, you just have to abandon any habits of running and gunning you have from other shooters. You need to be methodical, use your lean, use your gear (flash, gas etc), rely on your team mates, watch your lines of sight, check your corners and just give em hell. It's more chess than checkers, it's a shooter but it's a thinkin' man's shooter. Doors and corners, kid. That's where they get you.
My brother convinced me to get this the other day, best game purchase I’ve made in a long time.
We were trying to be tactical in how we move, trying our best to use the professional call-outs mixed with some of our own.
Example, we breach a room and just yell to each other because AI can’t hear us “Police, show me your ass!!”
Or instead of “Get a tie on the suspect” if it’s a stripper, one of us called out “groping the stripper”. The memes and good times are endless with this game.
It’s also really hilarious to watch a friend tell the rest of us to stand back because he’s going to try something ballsy and immediately gets humbled, I was crying while laughing a couple times!

But it was cuz I was pretty sure u were gonna like this one.
Theres bindable keys, no x-ray vision, no map even (u gotta make one in your head),
great fun.. and funny how smaller studios can make better games these days,
than real triple-A studios.. Ive heard its cuz smaller studios can work better thogetter than bigger ones.
I loved SWAT 3 and 4, and they were some of the best games that we ever played in co-op. It truly looks like this game could revive that feeling.
This game completely plagerized the swat games, surprised they havent been sued.

I just like the seriousness of Ready or Not..
its designed to look very much like a realistic hostile situation.
One time we managed to get an S ranking on the hotel map,
just going in non-lethal with peppergun and beanbag shotgun, so satisfying when we completed it!
This is a spiritual successor to SWAT and Rainbow Six. Love it.
Great video man. I really liked the pauses in your commentary - showing us these moments, rather than just telling us.
If you enjoyed this, I recommend you taking a look also at Ground Branch and Zero Hour, they have their own pros and cons but both worth considering. Not much stuff into this genre.

In all seriousness though, this really reminded me of those old SWAT games I grew up with. I had almost forgotten how those games feel like since nowadays there are so much hand holding.
Yeah this game is clearly being made with passion and careful attention to detail. I actually had my doubts seeing some early footage of the game a few years ago but after playing it recently I have to say it has already surpassed my expectations and it seems like there's plenty more content to come in the near future.

I’m a RoN player who’s clocked in well over 100 hours in the game. I would highly suggest looking into the nexus and discord modding communities for the game. Everything from maps, weapons, character skins, and ai mods are available to easily install. New quality mods are uploaded every day to the point where you can be addicted to testing them. They raise the level of content in the game to another tier.

I grew up playing the crap out of Swat 3/4 and the Rainbow Six games. So happy to see someone decided to make another similar tactical shooter. There’s definitely a market for these games, but most AAA gaming companies are terrified to make a non-arcade, tactical shooter. This one’s on my wishlist!

Absolutely love this game. Had it since boxing day and play coop as often as I can. One thing Mack...don't reload in front of doors...in fact don't stand in front of doors full stop! Also be glad it's not C4 but C2 ;)

it does look a lot like SWAT 4. fuck i loved that game. I'd love to see more tactical shooters like this. My best memories gaming as a kid were in these deep games(swat, old rainbow six, socom, etc), discovering mechanics and ways to get through a level non lethal. SWAT 4 had a voice command mod that would be amazing in this game.
Good video and Fair review, and I 100% agree that the AAA game devs could learn a lot from the level of detail and focus on quality in the game as well as Zero Hour. Would love to see a review of Zero hour as well and maybe a comparison, as they are both on the same topic.
Hi Mack ! Had a game on my radar for a while and it looks like a decent Vietnam war RTS with some unique features. "Leave no one behind: la Drang". Based on the battle from the film we were soldiers. On Steam for £20. Might be complete dung but maybe worth a look ? Keep up the good work and hope the arms healing well !
Oh man. This reminds me of the OG Rainbow Six. Can't wait to see how this unfolds. This is the first time in a long time I've been excited about a shooter.
I thought the same. Only difference is the arresting mechanic. I haven’t liked a Rainbow Six game since Raven Shield, and this looks like a return to that sort of uncompromising difficulty. I’m definitely keeping an eye on this one.

The modding scene is ALREADY popping as well. Reskins, new weapons, and complete maps have been made.
I disagree with you on the maps for this game Mack.
My take on these maps is they are designed from the onset to be tactical problems / Ai helpers unlike SWAT 4.
What do I mean by that? Well there are tons of circular routes and paths that doesn't make sense for that particular building, but they are provided to give the Ai ways to ambush you.
In SWAT 4 the buildings and environment were all constructed to look like believable structures, so shops and stores, gas stations do not have many looping hallways, so naturally that game didn't feature them as predominantly as Ready or Not does.
You should do a retro review of SWAT 4, when you spot all the details you realize that they built that game to fit the city, story and setting and then added the rooms / decor and terrorists.
Was about to buy this today. Guess I'll watch this first :D

I got this game three months ago and it’s a complete blast. Better than the majority of shooters out there. We need more games like ready or not.

The best part about this game is how polished it feels. All my mates agreed. It's almost unheard of to have an early access game be so polished, none of us had any issues in hours and hours of gameplay.
This one is going straight to my wishlist.
Quality game, looks and runs brilliantly also has some good mods already.

Love it. Single.player. no waypoints. No maps at all. No flashing icons. Not even a health bar. The wall.all.shooters should be.

Brilliant game, blowing doors has never been so satisfying and you just wait till you have a supposedly surrendering civilian draw on you. Top notch fun with mates and a clever man's shooter.

I wish that remaster Rainbow 6 Vegas with multiplayer. Those games were the best multiplayer shooters Ive ever played. The customization, the upgrades, the music, battling in casinos, rappelling upside-down with a pistol and popping people through the window. UBISOFT do it!!!
A very, very important point aswell, the game is really modder friendly. There is already a ton of new weapons, skins and even maps for the game, custom made
and 100% free. For AAA only title players, mods are like DLC, but they are free to download, and made by the player community.
There is also a mod to balance out the difficulty of AI, to make the game more easy for players who are not that fast with their reflexes
All in all, a really great title! Worth the buy 100%!

Really excited to see Ready or Not come this far considering it's rocky development. For an Early Access titles it's absolutely stunning how much is in the game and while the levels are open-ended I do hope they incorporate far more detail and level interactivity as Swat 4 was the main inspiration for RoN and was the pinnacle of visual-story telling and interactivity for that era.
They've since hit a publisher snag as they got dropped for refusing to turn away from working on a actual High School Shooter scenario. I hope they go full steam ahead with that as it's something that occurs with alarming regularity in America and to actually put a stop to one in a videogame would be phenomenal.
Also, I can't deny I would love to bully the fuck out of some piece of shit school shooter by chasing him down with an small army of riot shield-wielding SWAT Operators ;)
Unless more information came out since the split was big news, just a heads up it was only a rumour that Team17 dropped (or was dropped from) publishing. The school shooting level was pretty clearly hinted in the first trailer for the game 5 years ago, I'd hope T17 knew what they were getting involved in. Maybe they tried to talk them out of it and backed out when VOID held their ground, but there were also other rumors that the split happened due to disagreements VOID had regarding development requirements/processes T17 required... Who knows I guess.
Regardless I couldn't agree more about how the game has been turning out. I remember being blown away by the original teaser 5 years ago, only to kinda give up interest as the years went by with very little information, followed by information that really did not sound so good (namely the PvP debacles).
Then suddenly late last year there's a non-NDA PvE build and wait a second... It actually looks REALLY GOOD

This is a great game even playing it a few months ago and I can tell they are already polishing it up further. There are also some community mod maps which are cool.
The replayability is endless in this game. Very good
I was instantly captivated by the reveal trailer, which I watched for the first on May 4th, 2017, the game had really rough days and I will not ever trust the devs again, but I’m so glad it has turned out so we’ll thus far

Need this slow methodical style game in VR man (how has it not been done) every VR shooter I've seen is fast pace or large map style like Onward and Contractors. Give me a slow CQB SWAT-style game in VR and I'd never leave.

@Mack - You didn't mention mod support. The devs are all for people making mods for this game and there some really good ones on Nexus. Maps being the main ones which give you more variety. There are also more uniforms/skins for you character, so you can go in a SAS!

I'll bet there's a lot of old Spoony fans who saw his SWAT4 playthrough back in the day and thought that the game was too janky or too hard too find, but would love this game.
