  • Today we are going to review the Pentax DA* 50-135 2.8 Zoom Lens. This is an exceptional lens that is tack sharp throughout it's range and is perfect for Portraiture and Landscapes. With an equivalent field of view to the FF 70-200 2.8, it's a perfect companion on your APS-C camera.

Hey thanks for video! I ordered mine couple of days ago brand new. I was looking at it since 2016 with its pros and cons... only reason I was holding to buy it was this SDM issues but I finally decided to ignore it and try. god bless me

EUP Photography I have the 200mm f2.8. Just used it yesterday. Sharp and well built, but it's heavy. By the end of the shoot, with cold hands it was getting hard to keep it steady. I would knock focus off the subject while fidgeting for a better grip (I manual focus). However, when I got it in focus, it was perfect. f4 to f11 is stellar.

doesn't the lens hood have the little pop off slot so that you can access filters on the lens? if so, when you have hood reversed, it'll give you access to the focus ring too

with one finger, what good is that?

It does have the removable piece for accessing the filters yes. When the lens hood is reversed though, it is difficult to access the manual focus ring. You only have a small spot on top and bottom to access it as the sides are completely covered. It is one of my minor nitpicks of this lens.

6:18 Mine hunted a lot. I used it for indoor sports and it was not the greatest.

Pentax doesnt have the fastest lenses for sports and action. That has always been the case though. Its a great portrait or landscape/limited wildlife lens though.

cheap tripods(ballheads) can't hold this lens steady in portrait orientation.

Ail'enduril yes it is a good sized lens. The tokina variant comes with a tripod collar, but for some reason Pentax opted to not include it when they spiced it up Pentax style.

Used to love this lens. After 3 years of A7III and various lenses... this lens was actually quite mediocre. The notoriously bad pentax AF made it even worse.
