    Thank you. With this tutorial, I was able to convert my failed sdm 16-50 to screw drive.

    Hi Peter, I just modified mij lens as described by you. It now works fantastic. I did the modification om my K5 en to my big surprise it also works on my K3. Your explanation is very clear. Thank you.

      Paul Benner you are very welcome. Yes, any Pentax camera that supports screwdrive focusing, will be able to use the lens as screwdrive vs SDM. The reason for this, is because the lens profile is actually stored on the lens itself. So the conversion transfers when you attach the lens to another body. Now, if the body does not support screwdrive, the converted lens will be manual focus only unless converted back to SDM provided the motor works.

    The SDM motor on my DA*50-135 originally failed after about 18 months. Was fixed under warranty and has been fine ever since. My DA*60-50 finally started to be hit-and-miss after 5 years. Not bad considering this is my regular lens but I'd hesitated sending it away to get fixed because (a) cost and (b) didn't want to be without it. I stumbled across this solution and just completed the change. I will take a bit of noise over missing the shot (or more frequently not being able focus when people are waiting for their picture to be taken).
    I have a K5 and appreciated the thorough step-by-step instructions. For whatever reason, my DA*16-50 did not have any "C0" values in column 5 so nothing to be worried about there. Hope that doesn't create a different issue but as far as I can tell, everything seems to be working fine. Thank you!!

      SimplyCreativePhotography glad the video helped! The 16 to 50 does not have the C0 in col 5. I found this out after making the video but it won't affect anything as far as the steps go to convert. It's just one piece not there that the 50 to 135 has. I sadly didn't have a 16 to 50 to test or I would have added that into the video as well

    Thanks! Got my 300mm back in service (at bit late, I ended up switching to Nikon, but at least I can use the ol' girl now).

    Hi Peter; I Have 2 sdm lenses to convert. Unfortunately, I got a problem...... run PK tether, it opens, but whenever I turn on the camera - a K50, PK Tether disappears. What's wrong?

    Great guide - but sadly I have to report this does not work on K-3 II or K-01. The menu option to copy lens ROM exist, but does nothing. This has been confirmed i a couple of forum threads to be disabled by Pentax. I will borrow a K-5 IIs from a friend that should work.
    Update: worked perfectly fine with the K-5 IIs for both DA*16-50 and DA*50-135!

    Good video for the K5, but it does not address the K10D. There are no drop box hack files for the K10D, only a cryptic comment under "older cameras" referring to MODSET.TXT, wherever one finds that file.There is also no Development Menu (for Lens ROM Dat Camera) that I can find in the K10D. The camera remains in Debug Mode at the spot where the K5 goes into Development Mode. Is it possible to convert the 50-135 to screw drive on the K10D? If so, what am I missing?

    • @PeterSteele111

      Im not sure. I have only ever done it on my K5, though I know once a lens is converted, it will work on any pentax that has screwdrive available

      Did you find an answer to that? Interested in converting my 50-135 with my old k10d (conversion wont work on my kp...and font want to buy another old body).
      Help would be highly appreciated

    I have K3 camera (Firmware 1.30.0) and these instructions didn't work with that model/firmware. I found working PKTether version for that model but writing "LENS DAT to SD" didn't work. However I had older K-m camera and with that and these instructions I got my Pentax DA* 50-135 Lens converted. Thanks !!!

    Great tutorial. Do you know if the process will work with either a K-m or a k-100D? I don't see either of those models listed on the enable Debug Menu download folder? Also, I assume PKTether and PKTriggercord are two different applications? (I've already got PKTriggercord installed and working for my K3-II). Thank you,

      No. I have K3 II too. Tried, PK tether can not compile with K3 or K3 II

    • @PeterSteele111
      @PeterSteele111 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johanding6161 Has to be done on an older Pentax Camera and then you can use it on any Pentax that has screwdrive available at that point. unfortunately I did not write the software and dont have access to try and update or see if it is even possible to update for newer cameras.

    Hi, Just tried this with our K7, but were unable to complete since there is no K7 file in the drop box. Do you know if there is a file we can locate for the K7 or if the K5 file will work for the K7? Thanks for your help.

    thankyou very much for your sharing. I own the KR model and try to follow your steps. But the LENSEEP.LNS is empty, i.e. all digits are zero. Help!

    I tried several times with my k5 and 16-50 2.8 , it keeps failing and when I look on the sd card after trying it shows a backup LENSEEP.LNS file along with the new one? I found that it worked with a different sd card. Thank you very much. Saved me a lot of cash.

      Bob McAleese that is strange. I have a defective 16-50 coming in next week that im going to convert and make a video on. I'll get to see them what might be up. Sorry I can't be much more of a help ATM. When the lens gets here though, I will make a video for it ASAP and see if that helps

    Hi Peter. Can I use k3 to change sdm to screwdriver?

    • @eupphotography685
      @eupphotography685  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the k-3 should work just fine in getting the Lens converted to Screwdrive. The camera is there to just allow you to read the lens profile so you can modify it. The Pentax Development files show the K-3 to be supported as well. You can click the link in the description and download the exact 2 files needed to get to the lend Profile! Hope this helped you!

    how to get pk tether on a mac

  • @pemtax557
    @pemtax557 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Peter ... thank you so much for providing current information on this subject.
    I was able to get my hands on the proper version of PKTether for my K3, grabbed the files from dropbox, put them on my SD card root, successfully got into debug mode, navigated to the lens to SD command and clicked OK on the cam. For whatever reason, I just can't seem to get the file to write to the SD Card.
    Any words of wisdom? I'm sure I'm missing something obvious to everyone but me ...
    Thanks again for your help, I really want my 50-135 back in my hands working!!
    UPDATE: I just found this ... www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4079309 ... I'm both deflated and upset with Pentax right now. I've been shooting Pentax since the early 70's ... ME, ME Super, K1000 (oddly enough a Ricoh in the 60's) and I'm really feeling abandoned right now. I have a *st DS, K20d and my K3. None of them are on the list. I'm either going to have to buy a used body or pay for another SDM.
    Anyway ... thanks for at least listening to my frustration!!
