This was very informative. Thanks. I've noticed too that the scaling is kinda wonky in this game. Sometimes you won't get any damage increase when raising a stat by two points, and then you get almost two points worth of damage increase on the third point. I kind of figured it all equals out eventually. I'm definitely also of the mindset that I'm just gonna do the grind to get it fully leveled up anyway, because I love trying to get every last ounce of damage out of a build. Lizard brain want big number 🙃
Thanks for the info. When I was going for the Platinum I got one of every kind of weapon to +7 and felt it was easy to grind out proficiency at that point to complete all DoJo Missions on New Game+. Without doing the work you did I felt +7 was the sweet spot. My 2 favorites I got 170 +10, but I don’t feel the need to do anymore ...mainly because I know DLC level increases are coming. Even all my armor sets are +6 or 7 and I never die, unless I get greedy....so why bother. Thanks again for your research... puts my mind at ease.

Thanks for elaborating on an idea me and I guess a few other players put forward! I’m sure it was a lot of effort to make. Re: diminishing returns beyond +5-6, that’s kinda how I felt. I was hitting so hard relative to the content by that point that it just didn’t seem like it was worth the effort to me. But, I’ve never been a crazy min-maxer. I actually enjoyed farming revenants for Orange & White inheritables more than I did farming for + drops. Seemed more exciting when you get that rare Moonlit Snow or Iai buff, then you’ve gotta keep farming it
Yeah farming for all the + items to fully max out the weapon was pretty long. I'm glad the question was asked though, its helped me to make a solid video and help a few people out!
I had a feeling these stats would say this. I have a +7 purity and +8 corruption on a my 2 splitstaffs and really had no reservations on getting anymore than that. @@Onos I'm happy to hear you'll keep them up. Your dedication to examining the mechanics Nioh 2 is one of the things that got me to pick up Nioh 1 again just this past month. Taking advice about builds and armor sets, then checking how they work in N1 helped me finally complete N1 and start ng+ with confidence and fun. I even had N1 from day one, but got stumped and felt beat down by it.

That's pretty damn incredible luck you've got.. I do wonder at what point it's no longer beneficial... Mine has been around 215 for ages and seems to be good enough for the most part.... Apart from getting the hidden weapon skills! .. Still working on those!
I was wondering about this myself in the process of getting my odachi from 7-10 and it was a bit of a grind especially with your armor, mine currently at 8, I found it quicker to just coop otakemaru than running solo but the drops aren’t as good as solo depending on whether host applied lv sync or not. Anyway great vid
A video like this but with stats would be interesting. Like the difference between using odachi with base Str and then 99 str. Essentially, to see if playing sub optimal really matters much when the gear can carry.
I'll give this some thought. I think the difficulty with testing that idea specifically is that there are so many other factors which contribute to your weapon damage. You've given me something to think about though!
Nice test. I did a similar test and found that if I change the +level of the secondary (not active) weapon, and it is higher than the +level of the primary weapon (and in fact it was higher than the +level of any of my equipments) then it also increases the damage of the primary weapon. So it seems to me that the +level of the "highest +level weapon or maybe equipment" also has an overall damage bonus. Edit: so to make sure you get clear results in your test, your secondary weapon should be a +10 weapon while testing. Then you get the increase really from improving your primary weapon only, not from increasing your overall highest +level.

Great video analysis indeed welldone.... i'm also grinding right now , but i gotta say how do i upgrade my weapon from +3 to +4 and further ? The issue is i tried 2 weapons level 160(+1) for the upgrade and one more weapon 160(+2) , but i got stuck in 160(+3) right now in NG+ at the 3rd Region... is the (+4 , +5 , +6 etc ) completely RNG or what 😅 i only started NG+ yesterday & my Build is Perfect i'm currently level 172.... I wanted to note that during all the Missions from the 1st Region uptill the 3rd Region always dropped me normal 160 Divine & sometimes 160(+1) only , i managed to upgrade my Weapon & Gear upto 160(+3) and got stuck while being Full Familiarity are those upgrades tied to the Missions later on or was it RNG all the time ? Also in the Blacksmith Forging down weapons also gives only (+1) and sometimes (+2) only
Yeah its pretty early for you to worry about +4 and above. You can get there if you're prepared to really grind it out. You would need to combine 2x +1s to make a plus 2, then 2x +2s to make a + 3...and so on - you can do it that way and you'll gradually make progress. You could do the whole grind starting with only +1 weapons but you would need something like 500 of them to get all the way. I've found that the +3 and +4 drops will start to come a lo later into New Game Plus though
Just wait till 5-6 region onwards n they will start dropping more +2 +3 but last region is where you want to grind for +4 but aren’t that plentiful, so don’t worry about it till then

Yes it is worth it as a short answer, and yea i am a min maxer it is just what i do i even try to get a drop of extra damage from what appears to be an already drained well. However i am working on a set up for cannon+ninjstu/magic, along with my i guess sort of cannon tank hybrid build, which can do alot of damage with yokai shift and do tons of damage with the cannon and do decent damage up close while being able to soak up those hits.
Yeh if you're a min-maxer by nature then this wouldn't even be a valid question for you haha. Getting the most possible out of your build is just built into your nature!
@@Onos Yea true i do believe that even if a person is not a min maxer then getting to +5-7 is a very good spot. As your testing show it is up til that point the biggest time to power offers the most return for the time spend.
The damage is significant especially the number of hits in nioh can be less than a second. But comparing to the current enemy hp it is actually overpower.
In order to increase your weapons plus value you need to soul match it with a weapon that has the same plus value or above. It must also be the same rarity or above. For example, to increase a +2 weapon to +3 you must soul match it with another +2 weapon or a +3 weapon. Hopefully that makes sense!
Maybe i dont understand the question this video is answering but of course you should plus your weapon, what else should you do but to get stronger as newgamepluses enemies get strong so why not plus 10 your weapons?

Even if that were possible--though I am unsure if it is--it would be pretty pointless to my mind to grind your weapons up to that level. You already for a lot of damage with a weapon below +10 on NG+. Generally, I stop fusing my weapons together once they're like... +8 or +9 because that suffices for me more than enough. I then use any + weapons I pick up for weapons tied to other builds I may have.
just curious, I got weapons +10, +9 and +8 that raw damage more than 1800. I think you should re-model you weapon to scale right with your stat. My +8 up weapons after re-model all deal raw damage over 2000.
@Onos Gaming Can you work on Soul Matching too? I feel that the creators completely broke it and made it unresponsive in Nioh 2. No matter how strong weapons and armor set pieces I get, I can never soul match them and make them stronger by reaching stronger levels. The result is that I literally waste thousands of yen increasing the level of my weapons and armor set pieces to stronger levels but the levels stay the same even though I clearly soul matched them with stronger weapons and armor set pieces. It's a real waste of hard work, money and time.
Hmmm... Are you soul matching with the same item grade? (what I mean is, are you soul matching green with green or purple with purple?) if you miss match then it won't have any impact. Spry if that's a dumb question! Just trying to figure out the issue you're having

@@Onos From what i heard with nioh 1 they increase both plus cap and item level all in one and it was a 50 lvl item increase and another +10 ontop of the already max +10 for total of +20.
They did say they will try not to go overboard with Nioh 2 dlcs, so that we may not know however will it help to have max +? sure ofc it will. We cannot know what wil be needed or what will be the base + drops in ng+2.

@@Onos We do not know, however they know they went overboard with the difficulty in the dlcs in the first game and will try not to do the same again. So there will be an increase however, it could potentionally be an increase by say 30 item level and then +5 so the total would be +15 and then keep normal divine drops at 190 and then have 200 item level divine be the new 170 item.
Exactly - I'm sure you do just fine without needing to push. Some people have said that +0 might be needed for the next stage up in NG+ though... but by that point I suspect the drop rates will be better to make it more attainable
I use a lvl 170 +8 cursed Kusarigama and i see just a marginal difference between my water imbued Kusarigama on lvl 160 + 7. Yokai on NG+ simply are not hard enough to stand anyway. I have found a Sarutobi Tonfa on +8 and it is not important. The Skill damage buffs and buffs via poison, water and talisman simply melt enemies away.
Agreed. I'd say the grind isn't worth it right now if the rest of your build is maxed out. Perhaps when the dlc comes out it will prove more worthwhile to get a +10... Still, I've got one now haha. Might as well see what I can one-shot after I've sorted the rest of the build out!
It's definitely good enough. I've spent the majority of my time farming bosses with a +5 weapon. It could be better obviously, but it gets the job done. If you've got the time to farm the divine items you need then definitely upgrade, but I wouldn't be too upset if you had to stop at +6 or +7

Why spend hours farming level 170 plus 10 weapons. Like you mentioned in your video man, the damage increase is not noticeable. Plus I believe the only way to farm 170 weapon is to do the last 2 mission? When team ninja release the DLC they will increase the level cap so the 170 plus 10 is totally useless. I am fine with my 169 plus 9 gear and wait for DLC.

Onos Gaming you new to Team Ninja? Way of Demon in Nioh 1 was ridiculously hard. I never finished all the missions. I just did enough to get to way of Nioh. I started getting Orange sets and gave up. Just became too much to grind those up again. Nioh 2 is easier because we have Yokai soul abilities and the burst counter. So I am hoping they amp up difficulty but also give more Yokai soul abilities. Like Kasha whip skill or possibly Ippon Odachi skills.

Onos Gaming Way of the Demon is like how you buff your character before going into a boss. There are red glowing Yokai and Humans with status effects stacked. Essentially they are min/maxed like you.

This game needs a stationary "punching bag" to test damage on. The training area is nice, but not great for damage testing.

Yeh i tried some coop too and found the drops to be poor in comparison, so I ended up doing the majority of my grind solo!

So how do you get to the higher plus values I'm trying to soulmatch this +1 to my +2 equipment but the plus value doesn't go up

just curious, I got weapons +10, +9 and +8 that raw damage more than 1800. I think you should re-model you weapon to scale right with your stat. My +8 up weapons after re-model all deal raw damage over 2000.

@Onos Gaming Can you work on Soul Matching too? I feel that the creators completely broke it and made it unresponsive in Nioh 2. No matter how strong weapons and armor set pieces I get, I can never soul match them and make them stronger by reaching stronger levels. The result is that I literally waste thousands of yen increasing the level of my weapons and armor set pieces to stronger levels but the levels stay the same even though I clearly soul matched them with stronger weapons and armor set pieces. It's a real waste of hard work, money and time.
Hmmm... Are you soul matching with the same item grade? (what I mean is, are you soul matching green with green or purple with purple?) if you miss match then it won't have any impact. Spry if that's a dumb question! Just trying to figure out the issue you're having

I been grinding the last mission for hours trying to get a 170 weapon 😡😆. I have a plus 6 right now.
Yeah I grinded that one to death! Wasn't even looking for a 170 to be honest...just wanted + weapons to make those damn hatchets
Remember to check your soul cores i had 3 170 soul cores without realising. Infuse those to a corrupted weapon then that weapon into your main
I used my current build to test it. I one-shotted a yokai with my tonfas. *I'm satisfied* 😁

I'll be able to tell you that soon... I've got my 160 +10 hatchets.... just need to spend some time in the game now to raise the familiarity on them and soul match to 170 (I've got a weapon ready to do that)...leave it with me

Your gonna need plus 10s to manage in Dream of the Demon when it drops with dlc but also the base drop for that will be plus 10s
You're probably right, but I suspect they might raise the level cap on weapons too to scale up the difficulty. Time will tellI guess
@@Onos From what i heard with nioh 1 they increase both plus cap and item level all in one and it was a 50 lvl item increase and another +10 ontop of the already max +10 for total of +20.
They did say they will try not to go overboard with Nioh 2 dlcs, so that we may not know however will it help to have max +? sure ofc it will. We cannot know what wil be needed or what will be the base + drops in ng+2.

@@Onos We do not know, however they know they went overboard with the difficulty in the dlcs in the first game and will try not to do the same again. So there will be an increase however, it could potentionally be an increase by say 30 item level and then +5 so the total would be +15 and then keep normal divine drops at 190 and then have 200 item level divine be the new 170 item.
Well, it just so happens all my weapons are +7 and above so I have nothing to worry about! haha
Exactly - I'm sure you do just fine without needing to push. Some people have said that +0 might be needed for the next stage up in NG+ though... but by that point I suspect the drop rates will be better to make it more attainable
I use a lvl 170 +8 cursed Kusarigama and i see just a marginal difference between my water imbued Kusarigama on lvl 160 + 7. Yokai on NG+ simply are not hard enough to stand anyway. I have found a Sarutobi Tonfa on +8 and it is not important. The Skill damage buffs and buffs via poison, water and talisman simply melt enemies away.
Agreed. I'd say the grind isn't worth it right now if the rest of your build is maxed out. Perhaps when the dlc comes out it will prove more worthwhile to get a +10... Still, I've got one now haha. Might as well see what I can one-shot after I've sorted the rest of the build out!

I'm finding so much plus 5678 and 9 weapons for soul matching so grind not my problem right know
So basically farm to +4-7 is sufficient for the moment then.
It's definitely good enough. I've spent the majority of my time farming bosses with a +5 weapon. It could be better obviously, but it gets the job done. If you've got the time to farm the divine items you need then definitely upgrade, but I wouldn't be too upset if you had to stop at +6 or +7

Why spend hours farming level 170 plus 10 weapons. Like you mentioned in your video man, the damage increase is not noticeable. Plus I believe the only way to farm 170 weapon is to do the last 2 mission? When team ninja release the DLC they will increase the level cap so the 170 plus 10 is totally useless. I am fine with my 169 plus 9 gear and wait for DLC.
Yeah I agree. I'm about to put a video up later which touches on the topic of difficulty (in a very round-about way!)..its more of a debate video so I suppose we'll see haha. Interested to hear what people think!

Onos Gaming you new to Team Ninja? Way of Demon in Nioh 1 was ridiculously hard. I never finished all the missions. I just did enough to get to way of Nioh. I started getting Orange sets and gave up. Just became too much to grind those up again.
Nioh 2 is easier because we have Yokai soul abilities and the burst counter. So I am hoping they amp up difficulty but also give more Yokai soul abilities. Like Kasha whip skill or possibly Ippon Odachi skills.
@@OD91MJ yeah dude I'm a newbie haha... I missed out on Nioh 1 completely! That's interesting though... Although I read an interview saying they wouldn't be making it "too hard".. But obviously that's a broad statement lol... Too hard to me might be a walk in the park for you!
Onos Gaming Way of the Demon is like how you buff your character before going into a boss. There are red glowing Yokai and Humans with status effects stacked.
Essentially they are min/maxed like you.

@@Onos haha gotcha! But for real you should do a full set at 160 then the same set at 160 (+10) then maybe see the difference in damage you take with defense boosts and no defense boosts. Sound like one hell of a grind but i know you can do it. Do it for the people! :')
