I don’t love drum, but it actually is refreshing seeing someone have fun catching them. Everyone’s got a fish close to their hearts, I really like bowfin and most people hate them too haha
Agreed. Completely underrated fish. Love the fight. Glad to see you guys are nailing them. Haven't spent as much time from shore this year as I had planned. Been spending too much time on the boats and need some shore fishing.
My smallie river here in Southern Ohio is loaded with big drum too, when they smash an artificial it's game on! Cool vid guys, love coming up to Erie throughout the year!
we call them fresh water drum here in wv iv never heard them called sheep's head when i grew up fld we had a salt water pan fish called a sheep's head that had black and white stripes and had huge human like teeth great video
Hey just an observation I'm only partway through your video. You always look good videos, so TY! I mean I see the video just went up shortly ago but be nice if you put the date when you were out, and maybe the weather conditions. Connie would help us novice.. 😂😊
I wish fishermen would stop calling these fish, “sheepshead’s”. They are fresh water drum, or just, drum. Some people call them turbos, but even they will call it a drum before a sheepshead. They are bottom feeders, they are clean bottom feeders, they don’t eat dead shit, crawfish, worms, mussels, clams, snails, occasional minnow…. They don’t have crazy bones like carp, they fillet like any other game fish. Ive been told their meat is firm and holds up to grilling, or putting into soups and casseroles, it is best to soak overnight in buttermilk, breaded and deep fried.
I live in Erie and used to catch drums all the time when perch fishing off North Pier. I think the biggest was 6-8 pounds. Did you know they have a stone in their head
These guys must not know. Thats a freshwater drum. A sheepshead is normally saltwater and is white with black stripes and have teeth like a goat on outside of lip for feeding on barnicles hence the name. It is in drum familly i believe
Technically yes, you are correct that they are freshwater drum. However, locally for decades they've been nicknamed Sheepshead. Actual Sheepshead don't look anything like these, well except for head shape. No human teeth either lol.
Suggestion: breakwater fishing can be dangerous fooling around on potentially slippery rocks .. invest in a extending net., you will never regret it. What's better: a fishing day; or a day in the hospital waiting room?
UNDERRATED FOR WHAT? THEY FIGHT GOOD EAT LIKE SEWAGE!! WHEN I WAS KID ALL SUMMER LONG WE HAD SHEEPHEAD CONTEST WHO CAUGHT THE MOST ALL SUMMER LONG USUALLY OVER A HUNDRED. I'VE NEVER CAUGHT A SHEEPSHEAD MUCH OVER 6 POUNDS IN ERIE. REMEMBER NO KISSING THEM ON THE LIPS!!!
Why are we calling drum sheepshead? Are we trolling or just plain stupid? Sheepshead are completely different fish that do not live in inland freshwater lakes alongside smallmouth bass and such. Its just silly guys. Yall are gonna get roasted for this oversight
or, you could go out and fish yourself instead of sounding like an entitled liberal who thinks everyone else should put in the work for you. ANNOYING YET typical libtard comment!!

Hey, if it swims I'll have fun catching it heheheh, yea bowfin are pretty cool, only ever seen one in person tho

Can't beat shore fishing, but I heard the offshore salmon bite has been good, any luck?
Can’t stand catching them, makes so much of a mess in the boat, but glad someone loves to! Keep ‘em all!
Lol, definitely would not want them in my boat either

Thanks Matt! Lake Erie is the best!😎👍🎣
Awesome😊 got to bring a grill next time and do a Sheephead shore lunch
Screw the grill, I'll eat the sheepshead sashimi style 😂

Great food for the garden
I bet lollll

Hmmm, might just be a Buffalo thing, sometimes we call them drum, but mostly sheepshead 👍😎 thank for the comment Andrew!
@@OutsidersOutdoorCo yeah we call them sheephead down here in Dunkirk too, not sure why we call them that but we do haha.
Sounds like a sheep's head human teeth, black and white stripes. Yup!
Michigander here. I call them drum for those who don't know and sheep's head to the older fishermen from Michigan
I love catching freshwater drum 👍🏻
THEN YOUR A DRUMMER RINGO!!!
Me too 🤪
they are the best. get a bad rap. they are a native fish. not great table fare but super fun. keep up the great videos
Thanks Charles! Can't beat the fight of a Mr.Sheepshead 😎👍
we use to fish at Gratwick park in the Niagara
river on double dropper rig and catch doubles on night crawlers
Sounds like fun 😎
Come checkout behind Lorain police station, you can pull right up to the water. No walking LoL. Plenty of sheepshead to 👍
Lol, far drive, might have to check it out if I'm ever in the area, thanks😎🎣
@@OutsidersOutdoorCo it's half hr, 40 mins or so from downtown Cleveland 👍
They are drum. Sheepshead look very different and have a mouth full of teeth.
Good thing your Dad isn't climbing those rocks!!! 😂 He would be swimming with the fish.
I don't care what anyone says I'll take Sheepshead all day long🎣🎣🎣
Preach 👏🙏

Thanks! I believe this was around the last week of June, partly cloudy 3-5mph winds, 80ish degrees 👍
With the White, Mr. twister I’ve got rock bass, black bass, yellow Pike, and sheep head in that area
Niceeeee, Mr twister always gets the job done😎👌
The tug is the drug!!
Oh yes indeed 😎🎣
I miss catching those...
Lots of fun 😎
@@OutsidersOutdoorCo absolutely
The other name they are known by is Pittsburgh Bass lol
Now that's a great name
Delicious white meat. Underrated. It’s one of river certified favorite fish to eat too.
Hmmmm, I'll have to try some 😋🍴

Dude! I love sheepshead; got any bobber drops ?
Got one at 30:17 😎
What cameras are you guys using. Excellent quality
GoPro hero 9 black and panasonic hc-vx870 👍😎
Always a challenge catching one that hooks up on my perch rig. Landing them on light tackle without breaking the 6 lb test ain't easy.
Now thats a real challenge 👍🎣
Aye that’s my fav spot. Just hate the walk especially when I’m with my girl😂. But save me some of those guys u smoking them
Thats why this spot is on for da boyzzz🤣 I saved ya a few 🤝💪
I live in Erie and used to catch drums all the time when perch fishing off North Pier. I think the biggest was 6-8 pounds. Did you know they have a stone in their head
I did not know that lol
Last time I looked at the official usaf ratings, these fish were slightly over rated.
Hehehe
Every time I go catfishing I always catch to many of these
Might make some good catfish bait...
Yes they stink but they are fun to catch guys good job looked fun
True dat, thanks Robert 😎🎣👌
I'm surprised you guys weren't catching Red Horse Sucker's from that spot
Hmmm, I don't think I've ever got one at the end..

Idk where Avon is, so probably not

Buffalo
Uuummmm one Gud wht!?!😂
Heheheh
In the fishing isle at Walmart they have this new piece of gear you should try...
NET
😂😂😂😂
What's that?
Why are you calling drum sheepshead not the same fish
Slang
Noah must really be down bad when he’s glorifying a sheephead. Hang in there brother, steel season is just around the corner
You know it😂
Eat them, good tasting
Maybe I'll have some sheepshead sashimi style next time
Totally agree. They taste great...they eat crayfish and minnows.
@@wieslebombthey also contain all the cancer causing forever chemicals that they advise against eating.😂
You do not know about white bass
I know they're yummy
Poor man's lobster.due and catch and cook poor man's. Lobster
Maybe 🍴😋😋

THEY'RE SO FUN TO CATCH 😎🤪🎣
It’s called “Sheep Head”, NOT
“Sheeps Head”! Drop the “s”. Every time you pronounce it like that, you sound more and more like an amateur.
Definitely isn't a sheepshead
🤫🤫
YOU DON'T BELIEVE IN NETS?
NOT WHEN I HAVE TO CARRY IT 2MILES LOLLL
@@OutsidersOutdoorCo WHEELS MAN WHEELS!!
Why does everyone in Buffalo call these a sheephead? Sheephead is a completely different fish. These are freshwater drum
Better go educate yourself
Not really sure, we just call em that lol
nah man, freshwater drum is sheepShead
Question? Instead of climbing up and down the boulders, why not sit CLOSER to the water....duh?
Good idea lol
why you worried??
It hurts your ankles after a while of sitting on jagged rock at a 45 degree angle plus you cant walk around free like on the pier
Why are we calling drum sheepshead? Are we trolling or just plain stupid? Sheepshead are completely different fish that do not live in inland freshwater lakes alongside smallmouth bass and such. Its just silly guys. Yall are gonna get roasted for this oversight
