We all know the reason Goku sacrificed himself was because he knocked up Chi Chi the night before the Cell Games and he preferred to train then raise a son/daughter.
Here's my theory: When entering the time chamber, goku says that he's going to be stronger than everyone but gohan is going to be stronger than him. Goku wanted gohan to take his place and look after everyone because unlike him, Gohan was a better suited protector than he was. He understood what the risk of just existing posed to everyone even before the fight began. When he woke up from the heart virus, he changed in perspective. He likely planned to sit back like roshi did once he trained gohan. Roshi also said that it's hard to believe that there was a time where he was the strongest. I think goku entered a similar state of mind. Just as roshi surrendered in the tenkaichi budokai, Goku surrendered to cell because he accepted that he was no longer the strongest. So with the lives of his loved ones on the line, he made a decision, no more putting their lives at risk. This would be his final gift to his loved ones and gladly hand over the responsibility of protecting them to his son who deserved that role more than he did. With a smile on his face, he assured his own death and the protection of his loved ones

I think it would've been out of character if Goku did instant transmission back to Earth. Leaving King Kai to die(who is one of his masters, and the reason why he is strong the way he is)and not staying. Because if he left, it would've almost been a rude move, which is already messy because it's King Kai's planet. Him staying showed respect to King Kai as if saying, "Cell being here is my fault, so I am going to take on the consequence." This is the heart of Goku💯
With how fast Dragonball characters are at that point, I could see Goku being able to just run at King Kai real fast and teleport him (and maybe Bubbles and Gregory) along back to Earth. The talk he gave in the anime was long absolutely long enough to give him time to do that.
@23Raind It was either that or losing to entire Earth. Also I think Akria's intentions was to shock the audience with having the hero sacrifice instead of the common, "The hero gets an automatic win and the plot is the same." When first seeing the Cell Saga I had no idea that Goku was going to die at the end, so it made it shocking and new.
Tien’s tri beam against semi perfect Cell was essentially a self detonation. He was using his life force for that maneuver too. Hence him being able to stall Cell whom is vastly more powerful than him.
Yes. Tien also has exceptional talent with life-force based attacks, far above anyone else, with how powerful it was and how long he was able to use it. But Cell has Tiens DNA and abilities as well. Tien might be the reason why Cells Self-destruct was as unreasonably powerful as it was.
Cell stated that in the super form of super sayain they could bulk their muscles with energy, so because of his durable body he could just for all his energy into himself to surpass the power needed. Basically a blob energy bomb.
In the manga cell basically blows up as soon as they get to king kais. A few seconds at most but goku would still have to concentrate on someones ki to get back while under pressure. Also cell has 17s bomb in addition to his explosion technique. If gero can build androids and tank bred bugs that can kill freeza and everyone else with ease (without trunks interference), then he can design bombs that can kill them post time chamber. Dragonball is full of impossible magical and scientific feats.
I would theorize that goku didn’t want to survive the explosion not so much that he couldn’t. So his guard was down just like how he could be damage by a laser with his guard down, a weaker cell could kill him if he wasn’t trying to block it. I think he just didn’t think out the king Kai part and was an unintended causality
Here's one possible explanation, which I used to believe: The bomb in Cell's body was not related to his Ki power but rather an autonomous device designed as the last resort. Kinda like a nuke. It's components may seem mudane when inactive but once you put them together it relases gargantuine amounts of energy which obliterates everything in it's wake. Still I find your point pretty valid.
@@PrincessQ-fj9ly If the bomb wasn't significantly stronger than the android carrying it, 19 would have no chance of killing the Perfect Cell even if he still had it!
I had an interesting thought. As we know, Cell has the DNA and abilities of all the Z-fighters. That includes Tien, who in this very arc has shown to be able to use Life-force conversion attacks at a much greater efficiency than anything we've seen before, punching FAR above his weight class. If Semi-Cell at a much higher base is able to pull off a self destruct with Tiens proficiency at converting Lifeforce into power, there's no telling how insane his Selfdestruct multiplier might be.
Self-sacrificing blasts are much much more powerful than power normally accessible for a fighter. Majin Vegeta case, Majin Buu case. And it was a direct blast.
Goku’s death made perfect sense. He clearly states he noticed how earth was constantly attacked and in danger due to people after him, Plus Gohan had already surpassed him in power. He was passing the torch down the line and just trained in the other world
Still doesn't make any sense "Oh goku is dead let me just go away now" yeah no his family and friends are their the enemies are gonna attack regardless. It's better to be there to help defend then not being there at all.
@@AGLSuperSaiyanBroly him being dead was actually the best thing for earth. He learned a lot of new techniques being dead, Super Saiyan 3, the fusion dance🤷🏽♂️ if those key things had not been introduced the earth would’ve been wiped out way before kid buu
@@jackgotspeed ah yes plot convenience to not make it look as though goku dying then bringing him back to life wasn't a waste of time. A lot of Toriyama's writing is plot convenience.
If a scientist can create two cyborgs and other artificial lifeforms, powerful enough to kill the Z fighters, including Goku then, what makes you think they cant create bombs powerful enough to kill them? You gotta really think about this.
maybe because like you said about the life force with his power of frieza cells that increases his destructive power immensely will be able to kill goku easliy.
Love the video, but you kinda answered your own question here 7:34. Cell's explosion is his version of the android's bomb, it works the same, and they could not blast him away as suggested, that would only trigger the explosion. Remember how #18 threatened Cell? Also if a miniature bomb in the android's chest could possibly end life on Earth, is it really that unbelievable that Cell, while using his entire body as the bomb, could have enough power to kill Goku?
But, the thing is, Goku had this planned since the Room of Spirit and Time. Goku saw Gohan's potential, and knew, upon going to check on Cell and show off to Korin, that Gohan was stronger than Cell. He knew his time in the sun was up, and he wanted Gohan to take over as Earth's Defender, like he took over for Roshi. And it's very clear in the Manga that he didn't take a Senzu. The Senzu also have a funny effect when Toriyama drew their healing power, of also cleaning up scratches and scuff marks on them. Why else are Tien, Krillin, and Yamcha all perfectly no worse for wear after Trunks gives them beans. Goku, however, is still shown with those scuff marks and blood coming from his mouth. He's Not Healed yet, and what's more, they have to wait until Dende to heal Gohan, so perhaps they were out of Beans entirely. But, back on King Kai's planet when Cell exploded, Goku's Instant Transmission needs to lock onto someone to move back and forth. This act needs time. During his entire speech to Gohan, his fingers are on his head. He could have been searching for King Kai, someone far away from anyone else. The Only place he could think of to save as many people as possible. Now, even if it wouldn't take him time to Lock onto someone else to teleport away, He'd be leaving King Kai (a friend) die to save everyone. Goku isn't that heartless, and may have chosen to go with him, with the notion now fully solidified that Gohan can do it. He can protect everyone on Earth, and later he came to the understanding, "No, I should stay dead." TL;DR: Goku was still injured, Instant Transmission takes time to lock onto targets very far away, He didn't want King Kai to die alone, and he trusted his son could protect things.
I agree to a point. He thought he was the problem for the earth, so he decided to die thinking it would fix and it did for 7 years. The earth has never had that long if peace before.
If goku didn't take a senzu bean in the manga (so in canon) then it makes 100% sense why he didn't survive the blast. He was so weak after fighting cell that even a cell Jr, who is apparently less than half as strong as cell himself, was able to completely wipe goku. So after all that beating i wouldn't be suprised if goku was weaker than Semi-perfect cell or only a little stronger, which is why even a 2x boost to power for s-p Cell would be enough to obliterate him.
I havent fully watched the vid yet, but we remember that Perfect Cell was terrified of 16 blowing himself up, and 16 was far weaker than Cell. In fact, one could argue it would have worked, since 16s bomb was removed. If he could have tanked it, it would have been written as such.
The time it takes to speak is pretty much ignored in most fast movement scenarios in anime, it's there for somewhat of a narration, making the plot more interesting, so saying Goku had no time is acceptable in my opinion. Regarding tanking the blast, I'd say that self destruction of different characters should not be treated similarly as far as power scaling goes, because it counts as a technique. Just like how normal ki blasts, the kamehameha and the final flash are very different. Chaozu's is probably like a normal blast with minimal power, and Cell's is likely a special one with a ridiculous multiplier. His visual change also shows that it's different
I think that cell's detonation was more powerful than other similar attacks in Dragon Ball because he had 17 absorbed and we know that 17 and 18 had bombs in them. What if the bomb multiplied the power of the explosion thus killing a weakened Goku
It's highly possible in the manga. We never saw Goku eating a senzu bean, so it's entirely possible that Goku was just too weak to survive the explosion. But in the anime, we did see Goku eat a senzu bean. So that rules out that possibility. So I'm convinced that in the anime when Goku died on King Kai's planet, it was as a result of not only being out of time, but also Cell's self-destruction being just too strong to handle, even for Goku and King Kai.
Tbh it's never made sense to me that gero could even create a threat great enough to hurt any of the sayians. The androids were humans and there isn't a single element on earth that can withstand a super saiyan punch, goku/vegeta power up too quick and they could blow up the earth. The fact a human could create them without alien tech never made sense. Even with infinite energy, it's not infinite output. Maybe electricity at high enough volts/amps could hurt them, but that's still a maybe.
Cell was bluffing about blowing up upon being attacked because it took time to gather that energy to blow himself up. If Gohan fired a full power Kamehameha, cell would've been obliterated energy and all.
Perhaps he was. But even if it was merely a threat, no one would've been crazy enough to see if he was bluffing. For all they know, Cell could've been serious. And from the sounds of things, he was probably serious about hitting him would result in an instant explosion.
The "realization" people use to justify Goku's death doesn't work because the Android Saga happened even when he died in the Trunks timeline. Buu further cements that, because that too was going to happen without him
Except Android saga still happened because of Goku. He just died before the attack, but the Androids exist only to kill Goku. No Goku = no androids with power levels surpassing the Emperor of the galaxy. Consider that Ginyu force was among the strongest of the strongest in the universe. A single Ginyu member could conquer half the universe without breaking a sweat. Androids would have never been created this strong, or even at all, if Goku wasn't there. Buu was on the planet regardless, sure. But Goku was again the reason why Buu was ever resurrected. Without Goku - Vegeta vs Goku never happens, and Babidi never gathers the energy needed to wake up Buu. Gohan only filled half of the needed energy. Babidi doesn't have anyone strong enough to extract that much energy forcefully. Because even with his ability to multiply power, even with him having a deity on his side - people this strong simply don't exist in U7, not without Goku
@@RancorSnp Except *without Goku* the Red Ribbon Army would *still* be doing stuff and Gero would've actually had budget to make greater monstrosities, so *that* point falls flat. In every other case, it's "these are things that exist and Goku happens to be the one who deals with them one way or another" All that "Goku's the cause" stuff was just Toriyama fishing for yet another excuse to retire Goku, which he'd been doing since Z started. Fun fact semi perfect cell took absolutely zero damage from anyone. Not Vegeta, not trunks, not even ssj2 Gohan. He got punched around by all of them but not even a scratch or a busted lip.
You're talking about fillers that don't exist in the manga. No one attacked Semi-Perfect Cell during the Cell Games because right after losing Android 18, he tried to self-destruct and started to inflate. Even before the Cell Games, the only warrior from the Z Fighters who struck Semi-Perfect Cell was Super Vegeta, who was having fun and got bored seeing someone so weak So it's completely normal that he didn't take any damage if no one hit him after Super Vegeta (even Trunks back then never touched him in the manga; otherwise, he would have probably killed him quickly since he would have been much more serious than his father at that moment)
Cell is a saiyan hybrid. He had been manipulating zenkais throughout his battles. When reverted to semi perfect he probably wasn't as weak as we all thought. He maxed out his ki with his final attack which seems to have been enough to kill goku and king Kai at that
Yeah, that's true. And it's highly possible that he had a lot more power than we were led to believe. I mean, he literally caused an explosion that destroyed an entire planet and killed Goku in his Max Super Saiyan form along with his master King Kai who's a divine, godlike figure.
Cell wasn't going to kill everyone from the explosion. He was taking the planet out to kill everyone, but it has to be more dramatic then just pointing his hand at the ground and blowing the planet up. He knows they can't breath in space and would all die with him.
@@jayyydon4969 I mean, he was literally standing right in front of a living ticking time bomb. So he would've obviously felt the full force of it first.
Yeah, it would've been completely out of Goku's character to just leave King Kai to die along with Cell. I mean he probably feels bad enough that he had to teleport a literal living time bomb to his planet in the first place. 😅
Goku couldn't transmit back to Earth because there was simply not enough time, before Goku transmits to Cell and has his emotional speech to Gohan Cell said there were only 10 seconds left before he explodes, when Goku was on King Kai planet there was only like 1 second left despite on the anime the scene looked like it was quite long (and in fact was) and the reason why it killed Goku was simply because the self destruction of Cell had a higher power level than Goku SSJ full power, just because the warriors power level is lower than the other warrior doesn't mean his attacks are overall weaker, an attack or a self destruction blast can be higher than the stronger warrior power level that is why Goku died on King Kai planet
I have thought about this before also, he could've just instantly bought himself and king kai and the other's someplace else, leaving cell there..i think Goku wanted to make sure cell did indeed die for good by being there as it happened. He does say afterwards cell tricked him. When cell is still able to come back stronger.
He wanted to stay dead because he thought that evil appeared because he was alive. He thought that staying dead would keep everyone from being put in danger once again. He also probably did have enough energy, but didn’t because he wanted to let himself die. Again, he thought if he died and stayed dead, evil wouldn’t target earth anymore.

Would have made for sense for gohan to take the lead role after gokus death, gokus journey as a martial artist, a fighter, and even father (though piccolo did a better job) but the training Goku and gohan did before the cell games make it clear that gokus father role was used up and further developed gohan and himself as a character. This is they both of those character feel bland because gohan is turned into a side character while gokus character in dragon ball super isn’t as good as the one in z because the one in super already completed his story so making him the lead role in super is kinda off putting so as him defeating buu when his premise was for the generation to take the lead. Imo they didn’t have to do gohan dirty tho after straight up gave him the Yamcha treatment for a long time lol
No - it has nothing to do with fans - Japanese writers and devs don't listen to fans. Akira simply didn't like Gohan so changed it faster than you could blink... his "appreciation" for Gohan is reflected in Dragon Ball Super
@@RickyfromAZ are you sure that lowkey doesn’t make sense because it’s a fact that gohan was supposed to be the main character after the cell arc why would he not like gohan?
Gohan is the main character starting with what Anime calls Z, period. There's this weird misconception floating around that the main character is the person who beats the bad guys. But that's not the definition of main character. The definition is "the leading character or one of the major characters in a play, film, novel, etc." And in Z, that is not Goku. Goku spends majority of Z away, training or dead. Usually all three ar the same time. Gohan is the character that the story follows, throughout the entire Z saga. The story begins by Gohan being kidnapped, then we watch Gohan train with Piccolo, then we see Gohan struggle against the Saiyans until Goku arrives, but Goku loses, and Gohan has to save him, Gohan lands the finishing blow on Vegeta. Then we see Gohan travel to Namek, this time as an active protagonist to wish his dead friends back, we follow Gohan's struggle through the entire arc, until at the last 5% of the arc Goku fights Freeza. Cell saga admittedly focuses a bit more on other characters, but we still are mostly being shown what Gohan knows, we see him train for the fight eith Cell, and we see him beat Cell, again Goku tries to step up, and again Goku fails, forcing Gohan to finish the fight. And finally Buu saga again is all about Gohan up until earth gets blown up and Gohan dies. Again, the main character isn't the guy who punches people, the main character is the character the story is told around. And 80 - 90 % of Z follows Gohan aeound, not Goku. Goku just punches people, story only follows Goku during the fights, and even then they share the fights half and half between Goku and Gohan

Just based off the title of this video not even Cell should’ve survived this explosion. He actually should’ve been defeated when goku hit him with the instant transmission kamehameha because by cells logic as long as some tiny cell in his head remains intact then he can regenerate indefinitely. Goku literally blew off the entire top half of his body and left nothing but the legs. Gohan beat him so bad to the point where he couldn’t maintain his perfect form anymore and spit out 18. So how can a weaker imperfect cell regenerate from an explosion that would’ve destroyed the earth and also back into his perfect form?!?!?!
Maybe Goku lost energy against Cell Jrs? They each are probably stronger than 2nd form Cell. Also maybe using instant transmission someone against their will costs more energy?
No Instant Transmission doesn't cost energy The whole debacle is in the manga goku never ate a senzu But in the anime goku did receive one from Future Trunks, which is why his death makes zero sense.

If they have no energy, yes They use their own energy like barrier to negate damage Let's use saiyan saga goku vs Napa for example When Nappa throw a point blanc mouth blast goku deflect it with a Kamehameha, because if he didn't he would have receive damage.
1:30,majin buu was roughfly four times stronger than majin vegeta, and still got almost evaporated from vegetas self destruct thecnique,an aweakened goku taking a whole blast with the whole life esence of cell was obviously going to kill him Also gohan was probably going to die in space somewaht damaged after cells explosion, becuase he cant survive in space you know
Nappa is not 6.5 times stronger than Chiaotzu. Power levels were exponential at early levels. Its only when they get way higher do they start becoming linear. Nappa was probably over 20 or even 50 times stronger.
Okay where is the proof for that Goku kaoiken is a simpler multiplier. X1 half his strength = 12,000 X2 double = 16,000 X3 triple = 24,000 X4 quadruple 32,000 Before the frieza saga everything was measure by simple multipliers.
@@AgnesBooth-zu7tw because in real life the power needed to blow up a city, vs blowing up a moon, vs blowing up a planet is not linear. If Farmer with shot gun has a power level of 5. Simply multiplying his strength in real life to Master Roshi's power level to 180(even if you double that if it wasnt peak roshi) it would not be enough to blow up a moon by making the average human 35times stronger or even 100x stronger. That was a basic example but the same thing applies when you jump from moons to planets. I understand what you are saying about Kaioken. The thing is yes it raises your POWER level by 2x, 3x, 4x etc. But the actual amount you got stronger is WAY more than that. Thats what makes Kiaoken so broken.

This may just be headcanon, but Goku’s death makes perfect sense. You can’t rewrite history. Goku was supposed to die due to the heart disease and Trunks interrupted the process. The end result was still the same because he sacrificed his life to defeat Cell. Goku was never supposed to survive until we got the Buu saga retcon.
Agree but he would have defeated cell while at it But still doesn't make sense For me ill will say goku cannot be revived because he broke a divine law, by killing North King Kai.
I don't think Otherworld even had the "space is a vacuum" thing that Golu and the other Super Saiyans would have had to worry about on Earth, so it's not like he'd have suffocated once King Kai's world got deatroyed.
I know I’ll get dumb replies but what ever. There is no big logic to figure out here, the reason he died is cuz he’s not that strong. Said the same thing when vegeta died from freiza blowing up the planet. There’s no contradictions, it’s just dragon balls who care more about gokus ability than the story. He couldn’t tank it cuz he’s not that strong. @@YosherYoshii think in the manga cell blew up as soon as they got there
Tien’s tri beam against semi perfect Cell was essentially a self detonation.

Me 2 we all need da role model in our life lol
Yup, that's true.
Vegeta used a partial self destruct in the tournament of power
Here's one possible explanation, which I used to believe: The bomb in Cell's body was not related to his Ki power but rather an autonomous device designed as the last resort. Kinda like a nuke. It's components may seem mudane when inactive but once you put them together it relases gargantuine amounts of energy which obliterates everything in it's wake. Still I find your point pretty valid.
That would make sense. Ki power plus a bomb? That could explain why Goku and King Kai died in the explosion caused by Cell.
@@PrincessQ-fj9ly If the bomb wasn't significantly stronger than the android carrying it, 19 would have no chance of killing the Perfect Cell even if he still had it!
Plot armor. That is the true enemy of dragon ball story telling.
You're right! All arguments are supported with facts. Glad to have my mind opened on this subject matter! I never thought about this 😂
In a world where death is not permanent, no one takes dying seriously.
I like how he puts er on words that doesn't have an er on them
Goku’s death made perfect sense.

If a scientist can create two cyborgs and other artificial lifeforms, powerful enough to kill the Z fighters, including Goku then, what makes you think they cant create bombs powerful enough to kill them? You gotta really think about this.
Cell had android 17s self destruct bomb still inside him
maybe because like you said about the life force with his power of frieza cells that increases his destructive power immensely will be able to kill goku easliy.
Goku didnt take the bean if you took a looking at the anime or manga goku was Still battle damged so safe to say he was still on low health...
He can protect everyone on Earth, and later he came to the understanding, "No, I should stay dead."
TL;DR: Goku was still injured, Instant Transmission takes time to lock onto targets very far away, He didn't want King Kai to die alone, and he trusted his son could protect things.
I think it was probably more towards the fact that the earth would've blown up and the space vacuum killed everyone as opposed to the blast itself
I agree to a point. He thought he was the problem for the earth, so he decided to die thinking it would fix and it did for 7 years. The earth has never had that long if peace before.
yeah and goku ebing dead did not sotp the androids form apper or dabura form attakcin in trunks timeline
*sees the title of the video* now you have my attention 👀
That's highly possible. It would explain why A Mastered Super Saiyan Goku and The Divine and Godly King Kai were killed.
I was always under the impression that Goku used instant transmission as a one way trip and he was too drained of energy to make the trip back.

In every other case, it's "these are things that exist and Goku happens to be the one who deals with them one way or another"
All that "Goku's the cause" stuff was just Toriyama fishing for yet another excuse to retire Goku, which he'd been doing since Z started. Then entire point of the series was to pass the torch, but the editors just wouldn't do that until Toriyama just finally gave up.

Even before the Cell Games, the only warrior from the Z Fighters who struck Semi-Perfect Cell was Super Vegeta, who was having fun and got bored seeing someone so weak
So it's completely normal that he didn't take any damage if no one hit him after Super Vegeta (even Trunks back then never touched him in the manga; otherwise, he would have probably killed him quickly since he would have been much more serious than his father at that moment)

Would have made for sense for gohan to take the lead role after gokus death, gokus journey as a martial artist, a fighter, and even father (though piccolo did a better job) but the training Goku and gohan did before the cell games make it clear that gokus father role was used up and further developed gohan and himself as a character. To me, Goku dieing makes sense if they went through making gohan the main character like in the early buu saga as well as making Goku having the passing the tourch tone or letting the new generation taking the lead as Goku himself said. jiraiyas death did that very well in Naruto shippuden. This is they both of those character feel bland because gohan is turned into a side character while gokus character in dragon ball super isn’t as good as the one in z because the one in super already completed his story so making him the lead role in super is kinda off putting so as him defeating buu when his premise was for the generation to take the lead.
The definition is "the leading character or one of the major characters in a play, film, novel, etc."
And in Z, that is not Goku.

Why is the tittle wrong?
Nappa is not 6.5 times stronger than Chiaotzu. Power levels were exponential at early levels. Its only when they get way higher do they start becoming linear. Nappa was probably over 20 or even 50 times stronger.
Okay where is the proof for that
Goku kaoiken is a simpler multiplier.
X1 half his strength = 12,000
X2 double = 16,000
X3 triple = 24,000
X4 quadruple 32,000
Before the frieza saga everything was measure by simple multipliers.
@@AgnesBooth-zu7tw because in real life the power needed to blow up a city, vs blowing up a moon, vs blowing up a planet is not linear. If Farmer with shot gun has a power level of 5.

For me ill will say goku cannot be revived because he broke a divine law, by killing North King Kai.
@@AgnesBooth-zu7twFunny how this never bit him in Super.
2h
I don't think Otherworld even had the "space is a vacuum" thing that Golu and the other Super Saiyans would have had to worry about on Earth, so it's not like he'd have suffocated once King Kai's world got deatroyed.
how he be on sanke way lame and it has air or goku wood die when he want to get fireza but did he no
I know I’ll get dumb replies but what ever. Saitama will win, super man will win, and this is another video where people have to sit there contemplate stupidity instead of recognizing they don’t understand the abilities of the show that well.
what smairtma only fight cell levels foes so come back when he fights some one at jrien or beerus level
