Prior to this pandemic, I used to take steakhouses and other eating establishments for granted. After this is over, I will have a far greater appreciation for these places. My first order of business is to support my local economy by going out to eat. Stay strong, and cheers from Boston.

Another very typical Argentine desert is called "queso y dulce" or "postre del vigilante" (watchman's desert). It's simply a slab of a mild fresh cheese together with a slab of jellied sweet potato (dulce de batata) or jellied quince (dulce de membrillo).

@@woltersworld I wanna mention that in many places you can order them fried (more tasty and traditional) or baked (made in the oven, the ones from your videos look like these ones). Fried ones tend to drip, so be carefull (correct position: seated, leaning heavely to the front and legs opend wide, so to not let any drop fall on your attire). Bay the way, every "Provincia" or argentinian province has it´s own empanada recipe. And maybe you don´t know (you dont mention it in this video) but Rosario (provincia de Santa Fe) is Artisanal Ice Cream Main Argentinian City (Capital Argentina del Helado Artesanal), officialy declared so in 1999.

Medialunas are very similar to croissants, but with more butter, and they are literally washed in syrup once they come out of the oven (that's the extra sugary glaze).
Just to mention as well, there is to kinds of medialunas, sweet or savoury and the difference is one is made with butter and it's all fluffy and sweet, the other is made with fat and it's all crunchy and more salty.

My childhood in BA memories of food are alfajores (Havana chocolate, keep that dusted sugar stuff away from me), milk in a bag, sparkling water, chorizo, beef, toast made from a baguette cooked on a stove, spinach cheese quiche (I think that was just my mom’s coworker’s thing, though), chiclets, and beef.
Submarinos, hot chocolate made with steamed milk and a bar of chocolate that you melt and mix in.
Honestly, mostly the alfajores and the beef, but lots of good memories.
Edit - also the empanadas, the pizza with fresh tomatoes, and the medialunas. I have no memory of mate, I’m pretty sure I had it.

Thank you for this very informative Post. Like in the US Restaurant food is different than home cooking, at home we eat many type of stews, frittata , soups, tarts, salads , polenta with bolognese sauce or pomarola sauce, milanesas, a lot of bake chicken, and vegetables like cooked pumpkin, Swiss chard, spinach zapallito a type of zucchini and potatoes, And Pastas of course. My favorite Berenjenas en Escabeche! Marinated eggplant. Also food depends where your ancestors came from, like Italy, Spain, Lebanon etc. Sorry it took me so long to write this comment 😂.

One thing I like to eat in Bs. As. that you didn't mention are the tartas. These are savory tarts or pies with various fillings - acelga (chard), onion, ham and cheese, tarta pascualina (chard with a boiled egg inside). A slice of these makes a good light lunch, and it's a good veggie option.
