    Top channel chaps; as a ‘relatively’ (is 34 young?) young modeller I share you’re ethos that I’m at my happiest watching trains run round no matter what they are or what era they represent as my interests span them all. I’m fully in awe of layouts that show realism to the X degree but it’s not something I’ve ever had the time or inclination to do. Like you I see the ever rising cost of the hobby and shudder.
    Watching your videos has inspired and reassured me that my small first radius layout (very similar to Homewood) will bring much joy. I’m adding a 009 interchange to it to add something a bit different (as a an aside I’d love to see you model similar).
    Keep up the good work.
    Gregory

    That ballast effect looks really cool. I like the way it gets darker further out, like the old ballast was left in situ where it didn’t affect the running lines. Very realistic.

      Thanks I was a bit surprised it worked as well as it does

    The centre cab Lima is a DB V100 without the bogies. These were part of their cheapest starter sets which came with battery power instead of a transformer.
    The same chassis is also sold with a V80 body, which has a more rounded cabin.
    Rarity: medium, as most people coughed up the extra money for the starter set with a transformer.

    I really do like your core message. You can do a model railway cheaply. It's not beyond your grasp if you take your time and start small, think second hand and have fun. And if it isn't fun you have to worry why you're doing it. I think like you do there is a pent up demand for reasonably priced models and track that if the main model companies actually met it they would grow the hobby. I wish I had seen your channel years ago as it would have guided me better than the perfectionist tendency you see so much of. Thanks

    • @BudgetModelRailways
      @BudgetModelRailways  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks you sum it up very well, sadly the big companies and the press seem determined to destroy the hobby by only pushing high price perfection to a minority. We do what we can. Thanks for watching

    The drybrushed ballast mat had me fooled...I thought you had ballasted. The disjointed videos are not a bad thing...good way of showing you can jump between projects and keep your interest up.

    I have used a couple of the Dapol Railbus kits to make an oo9 DMU and an oo9 Railcar.
    The DMU is two cars using a Kato chassis under one coach and the Railbus is on a class 25 chassis. I just cut a few millimeters off the top and cut the center out the ends and roof. Make very effective vehicles.

    That Dapol station looks great I often pass their place in Chirk when travelling to Wales. It is great to keep busy with something you enjoy at the moment. I am working on my next blockbuster maybe featuring GWR. Thank you for the inspiration you give all of us.

      @@BudgetModelRailways As I'm in Manchester I thought it was Stellar, I'm a "Train Dad" IE My son is mad about trains and I'm building a layout for him. Btw Have you guys thought about having a Discord Server so people could post picture and videos of their Budget Model Railways?

      @@BudgetModelRailways You are not buying at the international, that's a chance for you. I am expecting two locomotives here, in France, from the UK since the 10th of April. They seems to have been stopped at Heathrow one complete week, I might have them in the incopming week. Hard times, I do no complain...
      Anyway, Hattons ships by DPD road parcels, and the service is not slowed significantly.

      lucky you! I saw a cheap hornby de-streamlined duchess locomotive once and won it in action, This was back before covid and it took over 2 months for it to arrive.To make matters worse, it didn´t even run!

    Good to see some new projects I am eager to see the new layouts and now I will add your new one to the map of the fictional railway I am making as the original Ratton station, looking forward for the updates and if I see one of those diesels cheap I might give it a go.

    • @ewanfawkes2708
      @ewanfawkes2708 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      to give you the basic layout it technically starts at quarry but the real main starting point is Homewood vale then we go through Greenhill Halt (I did try to include almost every layout you have made but may have to make a separate line, probably a tramway as well). After this we get to Ratton, Market town and Roselands Hill (not exactly in that order) and it gets a bit more complicated with lots of branches leading to various shunting layouts. I think it would be better if I did send you an image and I will try to make one as presently
      all I have are some lines on some paper!

    • @BudgetModelRailways
      @BudgetModelRailways  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @ewanfawkes2708
      @ewanfawkes2708 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      another thing, will you use 3DK kits on this layout as they can be bought for reasonable money as well as dapol and ratio

    • @BudgetModelRailways
      @BudgetModelRailways  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We are big fans of 3dk. But not everyone has access to or the knowledge in using printers etc, and they are quite fiddly to build. Plus they don't make the size and type of buildings I need. The concept is to use items readily available in store and online.

    Good luck finding a Lima 'Clayton' they are few and far between on eBay and stupid prices 30 quid plus! I looked for over a year and never saw a cheap one. In the end I fabricated a u shaped chassis from electrical conduit and bought a Chinese motor for 2 pounds 50 picked up a 40 to 1 worm and wheel and off she went, no Heljan I'll admit but she runs ok and looks the part
    BTW the Lima model is loosely based on a German DB railwYs V100. Strangely there are still a lot in service now in private operations

      Its a question of patience and knowing what search words to use, they often turn up in job lots for instance. I am always amazed to see people listing them as claytons as they are nothing like them?!
