I picked up this set, traded the Necrons for another Marine half, and assigned the Eradicators to my Imperial Fists and the Outriders to my Raptors. After putting together my new Fists army list I realized I hadn't used most of the new models. Turns out I have enough to easily build a 1000 point/50 power melee army and between their abilities and as fellow sons of Dorn, Templars made the most sense. This conversion will be the icing on the cake.
Awesome looking mini! I’m looking forward to seeing more Primaris Black Templar models from GW. The Judicar mini is made to be an Emperor’s Champion, in my opinion. Thanks for the tutorial, I’ll definite be using some of your tips and tricks to create my own Emperor’s Champion.
Awesome job! That’s an outstanding model. I actually held my breath when you went for that cut to get the edge on the sword. That was masterclass. Great tribute to the old emperor’s champion model 👍🏻
As far as i remember about the Black Templars and the Champion, the "Armour of Faith" is merely the best armour in stock when the Champion reveals himself. So this leaves quite a lot open to interpretation and freedom to variate. Yay Liberty!
It's a problem with the original Judiciar kit unfortunately. Without swapping out the blade or tweaking the hand position I wouldn't have been able to attach on to it.
@@MurderHoboRPG to cut the shoulder away? It wouldn't have looked right, the shoulder pad would have ended up sitting too flat against the shoulder and will have lost that bulky look
@@MurderHoboRPG My point wasn't that it couldn't be done, its just that it's not possible to add the pauldron without making a good number of adjustments. It was something I felt that the pay off wasn't worth the extra effort that needed to be put into achieving it.
I got ahold of plastic magic glue because of your videos and it's made one of the biggest changes to my hobby work since swapping to a wet palette lol the brush is amazingly easier to use
I've adjusted it a bit recently to get a little closer to where I'm working. The auto-focus is a little trickier to maintain now but I think I've got the hang of it now.
This was probably one of my more simpler conversions, very little cutting or trimming is required beyond the blade tip. I would really encourage you to give it a go, or at least try out the techniques on some spare models. You'd be surprised at how much you can achieve.
@@UntiltedName Blue Tac is your best friend for projects like this. I usually take a few days to get them to a level I am happy with, this involves making the mini then letting it sit on my desk for contemplation time. Rinse repeat that over a few days until I am ready to glue and paint.
This is just wonderful. The judiciar is one of the coolest models, and it became a perfect emperor's champion. With a point on the sword, he can't be Severian anymore, though. That reference may be a bit too old, but it's a great set of books.
Currently working on editing the Judiciar for use as a Stormcast hero in Age of Sigmar. Was really interesting to see what you've done with the same base model as I'm working on.
i converted mine to be a bit more salamander-y.. with dragon skull marine helmet 3d printed and a deathwatch thunderhammer, might put some scales on the cloak bottom, grinded out the left pad to stick on the right shoulder and then put a 3d printed salamander pad i made ;) looks alright
I remember buying the emperor's champion when it first came out and had rules for including in any sm army. I repositioned the sword arm a bit and added a blank chaos shield from the fantasy line. So he is standing there pointing his sword at his next target. Wish I had bought all three kits at the time gods I love metal minis.
I can recall seeing a conversion when the black templar kits first came out i think it was maybe 2006/7/8 or I'm WAY off. Someone attached a round shield fo the left hand of the emperors champion (when it was recent) model and it was SUCH an effective change Also some beautiful carnifex conversions in an issue of white dwarf. The big one that sticks with me was a carnifex on a wall bearing down on some unwitting space marines
I think the only criticism I had is to snip the chain on the left wrist to "straighten" it so it looks a little less pressed against the robes since it could snap over time. But seeing it like that gives it the illusion of it swaying as he walked too. I'm torn. Conversion looks amazing!
Converting the Judiciar to a Primaris Emperor's Champion was one of the first things I thought of when I saw the model. I however would use one of the pointing hands from either of the Captain models to make him issuing a challenge.
Once again, this is an awesome tutorial for a relatively simple and easy conversion. The only minor change I could make would be attaching a bolt pistol hand instead of the original hand without the hourglass.
That could work nicely, although you'd need to maybe add a little green stuff so that the hand still still looked gloved rather than the normal armored hand.
His robe isn’t my bone of contention. It’s the lack of shoulder pad on his right shoulder, coupled with the weird angle of the chain in his left hand and the weird angle of the sleeve on his left arm.
Nice work as usual 👏 I don't know if there's one available on any kit, but a Black Templars Cross (the one that looks like an Iron Cross) on the sword hilt instead of the skull would of been an additional sweet touch ✨
This is bad ass. I will most likely have my hands on a second marine component of the Indomitus box. And I was thinking of how to best use them. I will definately be doing this with the Judicar.
I wouldn't complain about the surcoat...personally think it adds to the character of the Emperor's Chosen and don't forget, as long as you're not 'modeling for advantage' it's your model and your style. Play well. Stay safe out there.
Awesome work as always, I’ve got a massive BT army and love making different models to represent the EC. One thing I saw with this conversion, and it’s probably due to the sculpt, where’s the right(sword arm) shoulder pad?
It's missing from the original Judiciar sculpt and unfortunately, without quite a bit of tweaking of the blade hand, you're unable to add a shoulder pad to it
definitely gonna copy some parts of this, cause a) I don't like the big hourglass and b) first time I saw the model I wrote "I don't like the flat tip of the sword". A headswap was also a for sure from the start
I think many people had the same gripes with the original model. Hopefully I've shown that with a few simple tweaks you can build something very different.
@@PeteTheWargamer yeah, seen a little of people complain about the head. I don't hate it, it can look pretty good painted up right, but I still prefer him to have something more knightly. The blade is more of a preference thing, I like my swords pointy, but I understand that an executioners blade makes more sense that way
I removed too the hourglass from the Judiciar for my BT Army. Just put a close fist with a Pyskers head fron the BT Upgrade Kit. It's better than the hourglass, a bit shitty for a BT if you ask me
This is awesome. I wanted to do a Primaris Chaplain head swap on my Judiciar, but I can't find just the head bit and I don't want to spend the 35$ for a Chaplain I'm not gonna use. Any other head swap ideas would be dope. Even helmetless ones.
I'm planning on doing a different conversion route once the multi-part kit comes out. The moment I saw him my mind went to guts from berserk, so fuckit, he's gonna be Guts.
This is a fantastic conversation and has convinced me to try it myself, which I will do tonight. What colour did you use for the clothe and gloves? Thanks 👍

The conversion of the Time-Turner hand is really cool; and it frees up the hourglass to go on the of a staff for a Librarian.

Honestly this is such an amazing and simple conversion that leads to such a beautiful model.
The patina effect on the leather is really excellent

Most conversion requires basic problem solving like this. It's pretty fun. Measure twice and cut once. Always dry fit first.
Does this model not have a pauldron on the right side?
@@dallathedark the Judiciar does not come with a right pauldron and you couldn't fit one on either
