I love the fact that you do not hide the mistakes/ flaws in the build. .Also Jay, you got yourself a great spouse there dude; she just supports you in everything you do and even when things aren't going quite right, she doesn't crack on you for it . I can't wait to see the rest of this build and it's completion.
Jay, you should also put another L angle iron bracket for the post on the side of which you had to move the girders to BEEF it up a bit for safety since only about an inch of it is supported on the post. That way the load can go through the angle iron bracket into the post more. Cheers. Good stuff.
I figured something out about Jay. He knows his stuff. And on the Perkins channel, he plays at not knowing stuff. Because he is the stand-in for the audience. His part in the video is to allow them to explain to us what is going on. He is a lovable goofball and fits the role. That is why I like him. He is a me in a different state and profession.
Jay why didn't you use the GRK fasteners on that 90 degree bracket under the girder under your current deck? More beefy and stronger and probably last longer.
Great to see you and Ray back together on your own projects. This is going to look amazing Jay. You've come along way. Stay safe guys form a fellow builder in thailand 🇹🇭 🇬🇧
Only thing I may have done differently is put a metal plate on the head side of bolt so there not pulling in so hard on a small surface area of the post. Like a giant washer with three holes drilled in it.
It's great to see you and your wife working together. I have been building a fence with my wife for the last few months, just a few sections at a time. Awesome work.
Anotherrrr real good video, Jay( and Lovely Missus Lady). Those Tecovas work boots do look the business. Especially since they are totally waterproof. The rain around here lately has sent me back to wearing gumboots; big floppity, mud grubbers I bought ten years ago and two sizes too big so as to wear an extra pair of warm socks. And those rubberbuggers don't have a steel toe and we have had some close calls dropping stuff on 'em. ( I dug them out of the garden shed and didn't remember to check for critters who had taken residence then got a thrill when something moved after I shoved a double socked foot into it. "IT MOVED' high kicks and flings like a Scottish dancer. Maybe one of us EEECKED or squeeked a bit, but I am sure it was the little brown mouse which flew out.)
Love that you show your mistakes and how you fix them. We're all human and nobody is perfect. Thanks for bring us along and letting us in on your life. ❤
I'm SOOOOO happy to see you wearing a work boot Jason!! Steph, just want you to know, my Ex hubby and I remodeled our entire home... I had my fingers hammered and held up 12' sheets of drywall, while my hubby screwed it to the ceiling! I felt like a mule at times, it looked great when we were done and I really enjoyed doing the work.
Us too! At 60 years old we were lifting roof trusses into place on a 26x30 addition by ourselves. We are also doing a whole house remodel. I wake up some mornings in a panic wondering if my legs will support me on a narrow catwalk as we hang pressure treated wood for the facia or lift a huge window into place wondering if we made the opening big enough. We are married 43 years and have been doing this for quite awhile.
The foundations for the deck are looking mighty fine, its always differcult tieing into a existing structure, what with ground movement over the years causing timber to be out of level and the unknown of what you're dealing with, as in who built the existing deck and to what care and precision they took building it. Dame Stephanie put in the hard yakk helping you out, you would have been beat with out her, on yah Steph. To be able to call on a mate like the Jones to help you out on a big project like this is massive, especially because you guys get on so well and can give each other banter, certainly makes the job more relaxed and fun. I'm liking tho Tecovas work boots, they look so slick, you could darn near use them as dress boot till they wear in haha. Spanking reel Jason, cheers Fella...
Jay, enjoying seeing the project come along. I would recommend you eventually replace the deck screws you used for the post bases with the Simpson screws since they are less brittle and rated for structural use. Keep up the good work.
You continue to amaze with the complexity of the remodeling of your home. Your lovely first assistant is to commended for her willingnesses to help with your projects. Really enjoy watching. Ken
Love to see Stephanie!!!! You and I are the same. My husband and I are remodeling/fixing our home (we purchased it with major termite damage that we didn't know about). Every weekend we are redoing every piece of sheetrock and pretty much every stud. It really is so satisfying when we complete a project. My husband laughs when he watches you and Jay work together because he knows that is what we look and sound like!
Always nice to see the lovely Stephanie , she is an excellent helper and easy on the eyes compared to hillbilly Ray . Excellent video Jay your talent is impressive .
My wife helped me on a few projects on the house. The last one was mixing concrete for deck footers. She ended up working with a fully torn supraspinatus that she didn't know she had done before hand. Beasted through it. Love that woman.
Bud, You used a composite cookie which under compression will suffer from plastic deformation. That is the reason those deckboard can't have a big span for they will slowly deform. See if you can put a steel piece of rebar in those holes. 2 should do the trick. I used to work for a European competitor of those board so I'm not saying this to get you more work, but to prevent you from fixing it again haha. Great channel ! Keep it up!
I’m curious why you didn’t put those spacers (cookies) either at the top or bottom to prevent a large drop if somehow that shifted and slipped off. A few inch drop would be far less catastrophic than a 3+ foot drop.
Jay, did you just give us subscribers an early Christmas present? Stephanie and Ray in an over 30 minute long BJW episode, you sly dawg, you. Happy Christmas to you, Stephanie, Ray and all your families and friends.
Thanks Jay! It is always fun to see Stefanie helping out. When you work with her, it is like when my wife helps me. Lots of extra instructions. Thanks for the follow-up on attachmenting the post & the extension cookies.. Yoy are closing in on 100k subs. It looks like it will be a good Christmas gift for you! KUTGW!!😊
Jay, thank you so much for releasing your videos, they help tide me over between seeing you all on Erik's videos. As a side note I learned something new today, I didn't realize anybody outside of the Texas/Oklahoma area wore ropers, I thought the rest of the country wore riding heel boots.
Good work team. Thanks Ray. Jason owes you big time. That kind of work is new but yet sort of remodeling all at once. Over build - no way. Always go with 8x more than safe. And, be safe all
The day before you posted this i thought ro myself "I hope Jay posts a video soon, i can't wait to see progress on the deck", the boom! There you are! Awesome video as always! Keep up the great work!
Jay, make sure you take into account the coriolis effect on the girder when making them flush...the torque, implied in minutes and seconds, is pretty significant. Too much implied torque...boom, someone in Australia falls into a worm hole. It's not as prevalent in North America because we pull up on the girder and the Auzzies pull down so we don't have the worm hole issue. Anyway, as always, I enjoy the videos. Keep it up. ❤
My husband and I have fellow the Perkins brothers for as long as I can remember. You were always a hoot to watch on their show. So having your own show was a great move. What a fun and delightful show you have. I tell everyone to watch, but be sure to start with episode one. My husband said he’s so glad you explain each step as you work. We can’t wait to see the final build.
Matt here from the UK, love your channel and the brothers channel. But I think you need to rename yours. Building Steph's way 😂😂😂😂😂 All, have really good Xmas ❤❤❤❤
Jay, If your post brackets are galvanized steel you need to use galvanized screws otherwise there will be a metal on metal reaction and the screws will rust out very quickly. It’s a metal on metal thing which is why unless coated they rust or eat away the softer metal item. There are charts you can google that’ll tell you compatible metals and coatings that be ok to use but otherwise, swap them out.
Say hey, Jay! Woo hoo, almost 10K subscribers. Good work brother! Just so you don't feel so bad about your "mistakes" just remember you learn what not to do next time. I also gotta say that your helper in the first part of the video is better looking than the helper with the beard. But your wife must really love you to come out and work so hard helping you, and especially not giving you a hard time when you make mistakes. 😅
Jay , You should know, You alway Turn the Crowns up. In addition you Need More Supports under the Front Beam. You don't spam Wood as a Beams over 10 Foot. You work with Jamie. You should know better about what You are doing. You always work off of Elevation. It's clear you are Not using your Head. Bless Wishes and Merry Christmas to You Your Family and The Perkins Group. Tell Jamie He has a Very Nice Vertical Mill. The Bridgeport are the Best of the Vertical Mills. AWESOME.
Love the video, Jason and Stephenie. I respect your honesty on the “how to” and the “how not to” It helps me stay focused on my projects 😎✌🏼🫶🏼. P.S. Jamie Perkins should have his own TH-cam channel on the work he does in his shop…woodworking and fabrication. He would have a million followers in record time 💯😎✌🏼🫶🏼
Jay you and the “boss” are doing a great job. Can’t wait to see what it looks like in the end. I sure hope my wife doesn’t see this video cause I’ll be building a deck. 😂
Thanks to Tecovas for sponsoring this video! Visit tecovas.yt.link/yC8HQai to get your new favorite pair of work boots today.

He moved the post out of plum so that the girder would sit half and half not sure if you missed that part.
Almost 100k subscribed.
Soooo close!
Think twice... Cut Once!!! Jay you have the BEST side-kick that any carpenter could ask for!!! Way to go Steph!!!!
Let’s get Jay to 100,000 subs, Let’s Go!❤
Thanks! Getting close!
I figured something out about Jay. He knows his stuff. And on the Perkins channel, he plays at not knowing stuff. Because he is the stand-in for the audience. His part in the video is to allow them to explain to us what is going on. He is a lovable goofball and fits the role.

100k on the way Jay, good onya!
Fingers crossed!
Jay why didn't you use the GRK fasteners on that 90 degree bracket under the girder under your current deck? More beefy and stronger and probably last longer.
Don’t want to split the girder from underneath.
Almost at 100k subs. Atta boy Jay!
A good man has the support of a good wife. Great vid Jay :) You guys are so fab :)
Not forgetting Ray, damn that lad is a hard worker :)
Great to see you and Ray back together on your own projects. This is going to look amazing Jay. You've come along way. Stay safe guys form a fellow builder in thailand 🇹🇭 🇬🇧
Appreciate that, thanks for watching!
Only thing I may have done differently is put a metal plate on the head side of bolt so there not pulling in so hard on a small surface area of the post. Like a giant washer with three holes drilled in it.
Good idea
@@Building_Jays_Way when are we going to do a collaboration video? Jamie and Eric never respond to my messages! Lol 😆

It's great to see you and your wife working together. I have been building a fence with my wife for the last few months, just a few sections at a time. Awesome work.

Thanks man, they are great!
Nice work dude
i''m loving the build so far, Jay!

As entertaining as always 👍👍
You have timber posts going right into the ground!! How long will they last?
Longer than I will be there.

Another good day working on the homestead. Nice to see Stephanie and Ray out helping. Thank you for being open on your “Miss Calculations” 👍😎
Always.
Jay, enjoying seeing the project come along. I would recommend you eventually replace the deck screws you used for the post bases with the Simpson screws since they are less brittle and rated for structural use. Keep up the good work.
Good effort on a big project. Admire your honesty in showing & learning from mistakes.
Love watching the stuff you do. You, Steph and Ray oh and Eric and Jamie lol you all rock it out.

Have you ever seen Rays wife? She is absolutely beautiful as is the lovely Stephanie!!!
Rough with the smooth. Love the honesty. We all F&%k up and it’s good to see that the pro’s do the same. Thanks Jay.

Screw's are fine buddy looking great My friends 💯
You’re going to need a 100” plasma tv for that room you’re going to build, everything’s going smoothly so far. Always fun to watch…….👍👍
Thanks!
Just when I thought your videos couldn't get any better than they already are. Awesome to see you getting the Tecovas sponsorship.
I’m loving these boots!
Looking pretty darn stout! Y'all take care..
I’m curious why you didn’t put those spacers (cookies) either at the top or bottom to prevent a large drop if somehow that shifted and slipped off. A few inch drop would be far less catastrophic than a 3+ foot drop.
It was easier
Jay, did you just give us subscribers an early Christmas present? Stephanie and Ray in an over 30 minute long BJW episode, you sly dawg, you. Happy Christmas to you, Stephanie, Ray and all your families and friends.
You should definitely put a scab on both sides of the two sets of girders you put in since the one side doesn’t have very much lap.
KUTGW!!😊

30:35 this is so familiar when your just tidying up the last little bits and your partner comes out ..."hey, almost done?"
God bless you Jay! I pray that your holidays with the family is heart warming and cherishing in Jesus name
Thank you! 🙏
100k by Xmas, nearly there! 😅
Fingers crossed
I was waiting for you to drop the next vid 😂
As you know from working with the Perkins, everyone makes mistakes. Good carpenters know how to fix them on the fly
That rant in the last video motivated her to help better 😅
Lol
Great to see husband and wife working together.
Nice progress Jay! 😃👍🏼👊🏼
so close now to that magic 100k....well deserved too,,,
love you brother so good work
You have a great wife to help you out Jay. I like how you explain what you are doing.❤
What about boxing out the post that you had to cut to level the existing deck? It would look more finished and add even more support
Your videos are always better when your better half is featured. 😊
She’s the best!
@Building_Jays_Way is this her or you responding? 🤣🤣🤣
liberty biberty 😂😂
Matt here from the UK, love your channel and the brothers channel. But I think you need to rename yours. Building Steph's way 😂😂😂😂😂 All, have really good Xmas ❤❤❤❤
Merry Christmas!
another good video Jay
Jay you definitely make it look easy but looking good.
Hey Jay big thumbs up to Steph for really helping on that project…I watched this last night and mistook it for Jamie’s upload😂😅

Great job Jay ! Make sure you listen to your helper she the real boss! lol.mike Peabody,Massachusetts 21:12
Looking great! And that was dead nuts level!
We need some “Building Jay’s Way” t-shirts!!!
rayjay-builder-buddies.creator-spring.com
I think you should of zip tapped or DPM'd round the bottom of the posts before adding the dirt back over them to prevent rot in the future
Can't wait till, You Hit 300k & a Million! Merry Christmas! You need a bugger deck! How about a Roof?
Her first grider 😂😂

Ray and Jay rock!
You are one of the lucky ones beautiful family and your wife seem like you have fun with cheers mate
You don’t have that liberty 😂. Luxury 😊
Love the video, Jason and Stephenie. I respect your honesty on the “how to” and the “how not to” It helps me stay focused on my projects 😎✌🏼🫶🏼. P.S. You should 1x6 dress the posts you cookied. Really dress it up and add more support
