Holy crap, I didn't know you could feel all warm and fuzzy and have the chills at the same time from listening to a song quite like that. What an amazing performance
not even his best acoustic performance of it, as he gets older like all of us, words roll off the tonge differently and some notes he doesnt even strive to hit anymore because its to much strain on the vocals and its painful. i love the guy for still performing. long after his voice beckoned him to retire. look up older acoustic versions of this song tho. theres some really good ones. and each time is unique too.
I'm sorry, friend. May the veil of life be as thin as the glass, the grains of sand that make the glass are endless lifetimes apart. One day, those grains will compress under the pressure, and all will be clear again. Just don't let the pressure break the glass
I've been playing guitar for a while now. I have always tried to play this song but could never quite get the tone right. Come to find out, it's in E flat open tuning, so...after tuning down a bit, I hit the first chord and had my "AHA" moment. Played it flawlessly after that. I enjoyed this video because I felt like I got to play along with CMFT while he sang. Pretty sweet!
Just 3 chords..and the passion that Corey puts into this gem with his impressive voice!!no needed more with this stunning version of through glass that gives goosebumps..and this all under the approving eye of genious Jimi Hendrix😉❤️🔥🎶🎸
Of course after seeing this i had to go look up the lyrics and give this one a go. I couldnt bring myself to play power chords on an acoustic but what an awesome tune to just giver on. The simplicity leaves so much room to just play with and just go off with the vocals. Totally forgot about this tune. Thanks for doing this Corey. 🤟
This is the first performance of through glass by Corey where he actually says "its the Staa...aars" instead of "Star Cowards" or whatever. He sounds amazing btw ❤
I’ve never heard “staar aars” with my own ears in all the versions I’ve heard. Nor have I ever heard anyone debate saying he says “star aaars”. A few debates fo sho about that lyric, no one ever says he’s saying stars. Star cunt, cowards, liars, cows, etc…never just stars
Damn man his voice is amazing…. from 4:00 on. You can tell the voice is a muscle that needs warmed up, and this dude is one of the best to showcase it. Awesome phrasing with his chord changes as well
this is one of the best songs ever written and i'm not just saying that. even my mom loves it. she loves disturbed and the doors, she's not just a regular old lady lol.

I agree 100%. How you play it and the melody is more important than the complexity of how many chords you use or how difficult it is to but I will say that I do appreciate complexity and unique chord progressions. I am just saying it is not necessary to write a hit.
Yea it's why Corey is saying "essentially" 3 chords and saying how it changes in parts. There's C5, D5, and E5 power chords as well. The riff is "essentially" just plucking single strings from those power chords. Way I'll play it is cadd9 to DMajor then E minor I find gets closest to what Corey plays acoustic for the chorus. Tuning to the guitar down a half step ain't a bad idea either. The power chords occasionally have some palm muting and chucking between playing the chords and the strum pattern changes up a bit throughout the song which keeps to those 3 chords moving so much they don't sound boring. There's a version of Corey doing acoustic (his most popular TH-cam video of Through Glass acoustic) he's on some time random radio show and I was trying to get it even closer to what I was hearing on that but you then really need a looper or other people playing with you because there's little harmonics going on and little scale patterns intertwined with the rhythm playing.
I had no idea Corey could play, much less actually wrote this song on guitar. Holy shit color me impressed! I thought the other guys in the band wrote the music and he wrote the lyrics.
Of course, if you have a voice like this, 3 chords are more than enough
You said it all. This broken effect in his voice is just fucking amazing. This man knows how to sing ; metal, hard rock, pop, and melancholic songs !
and the guitar too
3 chords on a 8000€ Gibson its nice, but i love the live version with LP or ES.
@@Humanoidfloheck, even country
100%. As a musician, whatever it is that you do, you’re only there to support the vocals
When a world class musician says "check this out" you know he means business
that's true, good call.
He sang with his eyes closed the entire time......he was really feeling the music. Top notch vocals!!!
That's because he has memorized the lyrics!
@@Bighomer5 my comment went wayyyy over your head!
@@misterentrepreneur7061 Nah I'm just messing with you man
Good music will do that to you
He is still the great big mouth
Corey Taylor- the most underrated clarinetist in the world.
Indeed three chords are enough but only when you're good enough. What a feeling, what an amazing performance.
Just a mic to pickup the guitar and vocals from a distance, no effects, no auto tune, awesome
If you don’t think this song was mixed afterwards you have never made music in your life.
regardless it would be 2 tracks and maybe an equalizer lol@@alexcorona

I absolutely love Corey Taylor, he's amazing!
The phrase three chords and the truth continues to ring true
Aw man "hope you dug it" like there's anyone who isn't completely blown away anytime Corey Taylor let's this absolute heartwrencher rip.
Feel-eye forever... part gets me... and the staaahhcchhyyaaa part too
Goosebumps….every time I hear this song but this version….wow. So glad TH-cam decided to throw this in my feed eventually

Corey sang and played it all with his eyes closed. That is muscle memory 💪
Flat Tuning - intro C5, D5, E5 - Chorus Cadd9, Em, D, - Bridge looks like C5, D5, E5,
The simplest songs are always the most beautiful.
This song kills me. After losing my wife I spent so much time looking at her picture on my dresser.
I am sorry for your loses may she be in the stars and shine for you rip sky queen 🎉

What a powerful voice!
Such a simple song, both chords and lyrics - yet i could watch it for hours
Simple lyrics, but getting the timing right when singing and playing the guitar part has taken me two days to get right lol
One of my top 3 favourite songs
one of my favorite songs..takes me back to different time in mylife.
I’m looking at a younger you through the glass
I wish I had his clean vocals man, my harsh vocals are good but my clean voice sucks, this man has it all. True living legend

He failed to mention that lol
That happened to me the first time as well hahaha
I guess its just E flat and not 'E flat open' tuning?
It’s just tuned half a step down. Call it whatever, e flat, or d#, just tune half a step down and your good.
I just found that out when I was trying to play it just now lol.
Love his acoustic version of this. His new album is great.
This made my day. He seems like he is in a good place. One of my favorite songs ever. Great performance!
He sounds like that guy from Slipknot
It's just his clone so don't worry😂
No way Sherlock
It is
Duh.....everybody already knows Corey is the other drummer in that other band
That's his twin brother, Rorey.
More of this from Corey PLEASE!

Damn I've never knew or thought that this song would be in just 3 chords the power of a good song writing right there
A ton of songs are just 3 chords.
Most songs out there can be broken down to 3 or 4 chords.
Life is better with Corey 🙌.
Killer song 👏👏👏
This is one of the best rock ballads I have ever heard, so meditative, deep and meaningful.
Prime example of...as Corey said, simplicity and effectiveness. A true genius writer he is! Thx Guitar World for this 🤘🏻
Technique is everything. Excellent performance. Nothing but raw talent.
I have the epiphone version of that guitar . Absolutely love it.
I agree

I love how you can see he has much fun playing that song ! Much love !
there are so many songs people don't realize are SO SIMPLE... its how you play it, feel it, and can change nuances while playing those same 3 chords
Loved covering this many years ago on the local bar scene (although no one knew the song). I refused to play Brown Eyed Girl and Mustang Sally.
Soul destroying that shit is right?
This is my favorite of Corey's as well. Such a powerful song.
Such a good song
What always baffles me is that this is the same guy from the self titled and Iowa albums. When bother came out I absolutely couldn't believe it.
I think through glass is my favorite SS song, the whole album is phenomenal either way. Thanks CT
I have loved this song for years. Somehow this made me love it even more!

I always thought he said "star c*nts" when saying it live haha
Oh I see. The very end. He was mumbling star cowwwwardss most of it…I thought Y’all’s was crazy or my ears was joking me
I always thought it's star chaos. No way it is just Staaa aaars. Why is he not singing it right then. haha

Cory is one of my current favorite artist either Slipknot or stone sour which ever just good ass music.
excellent performance & instruction! His voice seemed to be kinda strained a little bit, but touring and singing every night will definitely do that.
