Same! I picked up a Ruger Ranch in 5.56 and the Savage 110 Apex Hunter 308 at the same time. Initial reactions were that the Savage felt more like a solid gun. On top of having a longer stock, it also came with additional options to customize the stock length. But then, after hitting the range and dialing in identical Vortex Diamondback Tactical scopes, the Rugar was hitting sub-MOA @100 yards, and the Savage was at 8", to be nice! That Ranch has a 16-and-change" barrel, so a 308 out of a 20" SHOULD be even better. In WA, 2024, that Savage base price was $500, and I expected more. Underwhelmed too.
I think it's the barrel. Accurate 20" barrels usually tend to be heavy barrels, not a "pencil" barrel like this one. Usually these thinner barrels come in 22"-26" variants. Have you tried different loads?
I had one in .308 brand new. Tried different scopes, bases and rings. Couldn’t get consistent groups even out of reloads. I’ve had axis that out shot it .
My 110 shoots easy moa. I've never shot a savage that wasn't an moa rifle. Sounds like you need to start checking torque specs, scope mounts, and maybe change ammo
Thanks for watching and that input. This video was posted I changed scope and rings and having better luck but still need to find the best ammo for it.
So many variables to awful groups, first take off the scope and rail torque and lock tite all the screws, check action screws, check the if the barrel is touching the stock, check the barrel for copper and carbon fouling. Then what kind of bullets are you using, if your not having luck with high bc boattail bullets try flat base bullets. That gun will shoot, good luck
Got the same rifle with a Nikon monarch 3 on it, I’m punching the same hole or around the same hole at 100 yards with it, I’ve tried different ammo some better than others some not so well but mine seems to like the precision hunter by hornady, I’ve tried some reloading but the precision hunter seems to be the best for mine, and I also have had a Remington 700 and 783 in .308 and honestly they all grouped about the same .5-1.5 moa give or take at 100yards
Thanks for watching. Believe it or not I used to have a Remington 710, which was their value series and it was on par with the 700. I’ve always had good luck with them.
@@Phatchesticles1 may I ask what scope you have on it? I either haven’t found the right ammo yet or something about what I’m doing is just not giving me the Accuracy I would expect from a bolt action. I’m not at the level to win any marksmanship competitions, but I do have rifles where I can mimic the quarter size groupings.
@@bripro68 Just federal range ammo....noting special. I find the grouping gets tighter at a longer distance. I have heard the barrels are a hit or miss and can over heat easily.

I’m getting a lot of people defending this rifle. I haven’t given up yet but it can be frustrating
@@bripro68 maybe get the stock bedded? I never did get mine right . Got it to shoot 1-1:4” Sold it
You gotta find the ammo it likes, I have the 30.06 and it shoots sub Moa at 100

Thank you. I haven’t given up on it. My attention has turned to an m1 garand I just picked up.

Should be a sub MOA gun, you have to find the ammo it likes.
I have this exact gun. Trying to find which ammo it likes. Have you had experience with it?
That barrel should be 22 inches vs 20, besides that I'd guess it's the ammo more than anything. At least I'd hope that's the case anyway:)
Remington 700 grouping 1 inch at 200yards? lol They do make good tire jacks though..so that's a good thing ;-)

What bipod is that sir
Just a cheapo I picked up off Amazon, but with a few minor modifications, it works quite well for my needs. a.co/d/bJCK54b
Get different brands and different grain rounds and see what you gun likes
Curious if this rifle caveman’s has it on sale sometimes hmmm 🇨🇦
At this point, I cannot recommend it. I’m still working with it. I have put on another scope, but still feel underwhelmed by its accuracy.
I bought mine last November and I’m shooting quarter size grouping at 100 yards
