    Great video. Nice to see some ferry companies actually let pets onboard in the passenger area (well the pet cabins anyways). Grand dogs you have there. I find seeing a dog, especially seeing my own (a grey Cairn Terrier) always puts a smile on my face. Hope you have a good time in Spain.

      Who ever heard of grown men being afraid of a rabbit. Brittany Ferries believe that if they carry a pet rabbit it might escape and sink the ship.

    Stumbled across this vid, and its really rather good. I've been on the Pont Aven quite a few times and you're right, It's much nicer than the Galicia. I shall have to pay attention when i'm booking later on this year. Cool hounds as well. You've got a sub here, hope you have fun in Spain.

  • @makiwa

    Nice Video, thanks..... And fantastic hounds!
    I've done the Portsmouth to Santander numerous times, but only on the Pont Aven. We used to get off in Santander, get a Taxi to the Airport and grab the Hire Car and drive on down to Porto to visit Family for a couple of weeks. (Dislike Flying with a passion).
    We only had one bad crossing from Santander to Portsmouth and that was in November 2013. In fact it was so rough we docked in Plymouth instead and had to get a Coach to Portsmouth, which BF supplied foc. It was allegedly a F10/11. All I know is that I decided to sleep on the floor! Just glad the missus didn't land on me in the middle of the night...lol.
    But yes, the Pont Aven is a lovely ship - thoroughly enjoyed it.
    Sadly now their prices have just become exorbitant in the last few years I consider it a rip off considering you have to pay for everything on board, when a 3 day all inclusive Cruise would cost less!

    Good now how it's just a day and night to Spain now. Use to be 2 nights and was hell as not much to do onboard at all. The ship is really nice and modern but feel they skipped a lot on basic comfort and the actual ship when sailing is a bit shaky especially at back. Feels totally made for truck drivers rather than people travelling. There other ships are really good but new ones not so much. Great video! Much better than mine 😂

    • @Boatdogvantraveller
      @Boatdogvantraveller  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching. The crossing is still 2 days unfortunately. It was only 1 day due to the ferry being late. I couldn't agree more about the ships . These new Chinese ships are junk. Very poorly built and very rusty considering it was only 2 Yr old.

    We were lucky to get to try the Galicia for Christmas to Cherbourg. Lovely ship but the quick service restaurant is just not big enough for breakfast. Luckily I got my family up early so we were okay but the queues became extremely long. Great to able to be with your dogs. Whilst I’m not an owner I can understand how reassuring it would be for them.

    • @Boatdogvantraveller
      @Boatdogvantraveller  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching Alan. If I'm honest I really didn't rate the ship very highly. I didn't like the idea of a central atrium much and much preferred the ships that it replaced which were the Cap finestere and the pont Aven. You had evening entertainment on those which helped to pass time and make new friends with fellow travellers.

    • @alanwheeler3696
      @alanwheeler3696 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Boatdogvantraveller I agree I prefer the Pont Aven, which they still class as their flagship boat. We came home on that from St Malo (it usually covers the dark winter months on this route). However when it comes to entertainment they seem to have really cut back. We used to have a compare who would host a quiz and something else, a duet would sing for 45 minutes, during school holidays their would be a magician for the kids and daytime an adult entertainer would do close up magic and in evening a show. This Christmas we had nothing at all on the day crossing.

    We have yet to do this route but we also have 2 dogs, 1 also being a greyhound. P&o Hull to Rotterdam to route they say only allow 1 large dog per cabin, did you have any issues getting that cabin? Last year they allowed the 2 in a pet cabin but it was due to my error and at the port they were very accommodating. Would quite like to do this route in the future, much better pet deck for toileting. Great dogs!

    It is exactly the way it was for me, I am doing it again in April, very expensive for such a basic ship and facilities. ( Pont Avon ship ) One thing I noticed on your trip, all the dogs were muzzle-free, they made me put the muzzles on my dogs both lurchers are very similar to your boys.
    One thing I do find unacceptable are the dogs in the cages. We sailed on a really rotten night like you, It must have been terrifying. I rang Brittainry ferries and told them that in my opinion, the cages, were shocking.
