This posting saved the day my vac has been out of commission for 2 weeks. We were on the brink of buying a new one. I'm happy to say it is now working like new! Thanks for the help.
My parents had this exact Shark vacuum. My mom claimed it was broken after a month. They bought a new Hoover. I said I’ll take the Shark if you’re going to throw it away. Now I just figured out how to fix it. It is literally as good as new now! Thank you!
My daughter's Shark was making a high pitched whine after a few minutes of working. My daughter used your first tip and it worked. She didn't even know you could open the top of the canister, so it was very clogged. Thank you!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH! The last thing you did on this video was the solution to my problem. You saved me money and time. No need to take it to the repair shop. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
You are a life saver! My vacuum stopped working correctly, and while I initially suspected a blockage, I later thought it wasn't blocked because the wand still maintained reasonable suction. I guess it's just a testament to the power of the motor. Once I saw your video and realized our vacuums were making the exact same noise, I was able to locate the blockage and clear it. Thanks!
Solid vid. Helped us out despite having a newer Shark model than this. For us, instead of having to undo the panel on the bottom with a flat head, our tube is about 8 inches and it's placed on the side. The end connected to the brush portion of the vacuum twists off and the other end connected to the "spine" of the vacuum snaps on/off with a push and pull mechanism. Our clog was in both spots. Thank you!
OMG, you saved it. I watched so many videos and none of them helped. Yours did, I had a clog in the long handle. I can't thank you enough. Now to order some new filters. I've had this baby for about 11 years. I was lost without my Shark!~!!
Thank you! My son used my vacuum to suck up a bunch of hay or something last time it was used, today I went to vacuum and it was making that exact sound! I had already unclogged the hose and the long silver/red tube, emptied the dirt cup and checked the filters. Found your video and took off the very bottom of the vacuum and there was the problem. Thank you!!!
Thank you so much for literally fixing my niece’s shark vacuum cleaner! My parents are elderly and taking care of them is enough trouble without adding a lovely vacuum cleaner that doesn’t work! You solved the issue within the 6 minutes of video provided! It was blockage, cellophane cup one of the grands probably wanted to see if cleaner would pick it up? It did, then couldn’t deposit it into waste. You showed me how to get it out and it worked! Thank you very much!
omg! thank you so much for this - I was about to throw out my shark because it was out of warranty and I thought it was time for a new one. Thanks heaps, this has really helped, so glad there are people like you willing to share - Cheers
Omg! THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!! I’ve just dealt with that loud annoying extra sound from my vacuum for a year now! Lol This totally worked and now I mad at myself because it was so simple. Thanks again!
Thanks so much! Was browsing for a new vacuum as I couldn't fix the problem. After watching your video I actually unattached the hose and washed it and a pencil came out with a bunch of hair yuk! You saved me money!
The last part literally stopped my meltdown so fast. I was checking everything and nothing was clogged until I unscrewed bottom like you did. Tytyty sooo much
Thanks for this. I have had a Shark vacuum parked in storage (and bought a whole new one that has since broke for another reason) for over a year because it was making this exact sound. I knew that the sound usually meant a blockage, as I've cleaned out many blockages over the years thanks to kids and my own lack of attention. Lol. However, when I cleared every filter and hose and didn't find anything, I figured that something must be wrong with the motor. Watching this clarified that I likely did have a blockage that I hadn't found yet, and it was in the final part of the hose. (It was hissing out the side vent even in hose-only mode.) The tube had looked clear before, but it was hard to tell for sure because the bend in the hose/handle made it impossible to see light through. Or so I thought. I finally found the clog (a stubborn cloth mask that one of my kids had sucked up) and now my vacuum is as good as new. Saved me from having to drop $200 on a new one. Much appreciated!
Thanks for posting and you helped save me from buying a new one! I am not going to donate money but know that you have done your part to help the environment. That should be the best satisfaction!
I nearly burned out my Shark vac motor before I stopped and watched your video. Ohhh- the filter BELOW the filter. That was forgotten and filthy. Well that was new information! Thank you!
Your video saved me a trip to the repair shop, and now my wife is impressed with my handyman skills! 💪 Sending a couple of bucks your way to say thanks. 👊
My Shark is a bit different than your but I got the clog out thanks to your last check where you found the muck. Mine too...Saved me $200 from having to buy a new one. Thanks!
I did exactly what u did!!!! Thank u for showing all the examples it really helped and worked!!! Found 3 clogs!!! So happy!!!! I was about to buy a new one
thank you. i have a shark lift away and i found this video and it made me think of another place to check instead of the hoses. my clog was up inside the stick part of the handle/wand thing and you just saved me from getting another one.
Awesome! I literally almost spent $300 on a new vacuum until I found this video... I have the shark professional liftaway and we took off all the hoses and nothing was clogged... almost pitched it... the clock was inside the gooseneck of the handle........ and it had probably been collecting for YEARS......now the suction is insane. lol
The hose! 😂 Used a skinny grabber tool as I didn't see the clog at the top just behind the handle. 5 minute fix after working all the " Clean the Filters" videos. THANK YOU!
Thank you so much for posting this video! I couldn't for the longest time figure out what was going on. I thought I cleared all of the filters and hoses. I had no clue that I could access the bottom panel that you showed, and that was indeed where the problem was!
YESS THANK YOU! third time using my vacuum and it started making that noise. I was like oh man do I have to give it back???? Came across your video and you're right! the handle pipe was clogged! thanks!
I have an older ( over 13 year old) Shark Rotator Professional model. This things NEVER loses suction. Keeping filters clean and hoses clear is key! My daughter was 2 1/2 when we purchased this and she just turned 16...I hope it keeps on going. Ours is white with blue trim and I LOVE the grey color of the newer models but I'm not ready to give it up just yet! Lol
I thought it was over thank you, I found the clog I think will try in a couple of minutes, but i would not have found without your video man I love you tube !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you! I was wondering why the vacuum was making the noise from the side hole/vent. Your step-by-step logical elimination process was very useful. I found a sock hiding inside the main tube. The vacuum no longer makes the noise and is back in service.
This video was extremely helpful and got it unclogged.Even though the screens weren’t the issue , they were filthy beyond belief , so that’s cleaned. The problem was that it was clogged. No matter what I did I couldn’t get to the clog. Finally out of desperation I did a Hail Mary and sucked it out with a shop vac. One suggestion I would make, you state that in order to unscrew it you need a screwdriver. Actually, just using a coin works very well. Thanks for the video.
Yes! This! Who would have thought that the clogged metal cone thingy inside the dustbin would have caused such a huge loss of suction? (I mean, doesn't this thing get dirty every time you use the vacuum?) I cleaned it with a toothbrush and voila! Return of excellent suction! I was about to buy a new vacuum, already had it in my online shopping cart (same model - have had this one for 12 years and it's been great). Thanks for saving me the money. Maybe it will last me another 12 years.
Glad I found your video! I had already done everything BUT the last part. I did it years ago, but completely forgot I could take it apart there. I didn’t try it yet, but regardless if that’s where the clog is or not, I’m thankful I found your video!!
Omg thank you so much, I had the sucking problem for weeks and I didn't realize the top opened up and could be emptied! It was full of junk! Now it's back to normal! 😁
Thank you so much, I had the same problem with my vacuum & bc of your video I found the reason for the noise. You're awesome & I couldn't have found the issue without you, thx again!!
Thanks for the very helpful Video. My vacuum was making a loud sucking noise from the rectangular hole in the lift-away canister. Cleaned the Screen Filter. Problem Solved.
thanks for a very helpful video. i did everything i could think of and it was still making that sane exact loud noise. i didnt know that you could take the bottom off like that. i have a little different model but the printable was the same. i had a huge clog that was right behind the rollers. without your video i never would have found that. thanks again
Thanks so much! Video was short and sweet, loved the step-by-step, wouldn’t have been able to diagnose the issue without this! Had a pen jammed in the top section, thought it was an issue with the machine as every other spot I had cleaned (or so I thought). Thanks again!
plenty of people have already said this, but thank you so much for this. my vacuum has been making this noise for some time and i couldn’t figure out how to fix it
Thank you so much!! I didnt know about the little filter in the top being plugged with hair could cause that noise. You saved me so much stress. Thanku!
I was honestly thinking of going and buying a new vacuum, thank you for the video. I just couldn't find the problem watched your video Grabbed a flash light and the clog was in the long tube.
Mine made the noise when there was a major clog in the shaft from the tank to the roller. 10 minutes break down and clean up made it work better than brand new 😁
Thank you for this video! I can't believe the size clog i found in the where the handle meets the hose. Glad to know what that awful sound means. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much, your video tutorial helped me to stop my Shark vacuum making a horrible noise 😁. I really appreciate it 💐. I was thinking about buying a new one if I couldn't get it to stop.
Thank you, thank you!!! This was the second video I watched trying to figure out why I didn't have suction. I did not know I could open the bottom and I found an SD card holder that was sucked up blocking everything! Works beautifully now!

You just fixed my vacumm. I was thinking man, I really need a repair man. Boom I am the repair man. Thank you!

Love this vacuum🌼 I have long, thick, curly hair, and so do both my nephews and the vacuum handles it with no problem!! I would recommend this!!
Thank you ! I just finished going through your tutorial that was easy to follow especially for a single mother. Thank you so much !!!
Thanks so much! Was browsing for a new vacuum as I couldn't fix the problem. After watching your video I actually unattached the hose and washed it and a pencil came out with a bunch of hair yuk! You saved me money!

Excellent! short and simple video with clear image and instructions.. Saved me from buying another vacuum without reason. Thank you!
Worked great… we had a hose clog, but your easy to follow diagnosis process pointed out where needed to focus. Like a brand new machine! Thanks!
Your video saved me a trip to the repair shop, and now my wife is impressed with my handyman skills! 💪 Sending a couple of bucks your way to say thanks. 👊
Thank you! Glad to help. My vacuum has been well behaved lately but if it ever gets other problems i will make a video on them.
My Shark is a bit different than your but I got the clog out thanks to your last check where you found the muck. Mine too...Saved me $200 from having to buy a new one. Thanks!

Thank you from Australia 🇦🇺 mine was doing exactly that and was clogged in exactly the same place, and yes it was pretty gross 🤢
YESS THANK YOU! third time using my vacuum and it started making that noise. I was like oh man do I have to give it back???? Came across your video and you're right! the handle pipe was clogged! thanks!

You just saved my vacuum in the midst of fighting fleas. You don’t know what this means to me! Subscribed
Thanks man! The 3rd and 4th check was the issue i appreciate it!

THANKS!!! We never even knew about that cylinder area. I have had the vacuum for at least 3 years and never cleared that. Vac works way better now

Omg thank you so much, I had the sucking problem for weeks and I didn't realize the top opened up and could be emptied! It was full of junk! Now it's back to normal! 😁
Thank you so much! Your first suggestion of cleaning the cone filter was the problem. You saved me a lot of money!
This helped so much! We were about to buy a new one hahaha
Same here hahaha
Same
LOL I was wondering if Id have to give it back. Thank God I didn't T_T
I have two now with the same problem shown in this video lol. I will try to fix them now, before purchasing number three.
Ha me too
You saved me money. Thank you so much. It was the filter in the middle.
This was so helpful. The sucking noise was just the problem it was having. Thank you.
Thank you!! I was going to take my vacuum to a repair place, but I thought I’d give your video a shot first - it worked!! 🙌
Thank you so much!! I looked like a genius in front of my family when I fixed it now the vacuum is as strong as ever!
Thanks! This video helped fix my vacuum up as good as new. It was making the same sound and after cleaning all of the filters, found a massive clog.

Just looked at your video, today, and it helped me solve where the clog was on our Shark Vacuum.
Thanks for posting this video and your help.
My vacuum literally sounds better than I've ever heard it sound before! Thank you!
I bet its already broke
This was helpful. I thought I had found all the clogs but, alas, there was one at the top house where it curves into the handle. Thanks!
My clog was not in the same spot, but the video helped me track it down. Thanks.
We were about to get rid of our vacuum cleaner over this! Thank you so much!
THANK YOU! The sucking noise was my exact problem and cleaning that inner filter fixed it!!!
Great suggestion!! It was the exact sound I was trying to fix! It works better than ever now!
Thanks so much! Video was short and sweet, loved the step-by-step, wouldn’t have been able to diagnose the issue without this! Had a pen jammed in the top section, thought it was an issue with the machine as every other spot I had cleaned (or so I thought). Thanks again!
Thank you for saving me $$ . Additionally I tried everything BUT the bottom piece that you were able to unscrew.
Thanks for the comment!
Thank you so much, got my problem solved
plenty of people have already said this, but thank you so much for this. my vacuum has been making this noise for some time and i couldn’t figure out how to fix it
Still helpful in 2023! This helped me fix my Shark
Thank you so much!! I didnt know about the little filter in the top being plugged with hair could cause that noise. You saved me so much stress. Thanku!
Excellent! The last hose is were our clog was. Thanks for the video.
This was very helpful and I just saved myself $150 bucks! Thank you!
I was honestly thinking of going and buying a new vacuum, thank you for the video. I just couldn't find the problem watched your video Grabbed a flash light and the clog was in the long tube.
You were right about the hissing. I used the dry scouring side of a dry washing up (dishes). Problem solved. Many thanks.😀
Thank you for being thorough! I have a different model but I now know how to take off the bottom and check for clogs.
Mine made the noise when there was a major clog in the shaft from the tank to the roller. 10 minutes break down and clean up made it work better than brand new 😁
That's where my Lego went!!! Thanks - was having this same problem/noise.
Thanks for the very helpful video! I loved my Shark but it quit sucking up properly and he explained how to find the spots where it was clogged.
I wish I had seen you 3 trips ago to The Home Depot. Thanks dude, that helped so much.
Dude. Thanks for this video! I had done everything but check the tubes which is where the problem was.
Gearmo, my hero. Thanks for helping me solve the problem.
Thanks! I didn't even think to check that screen inside the container. It was completely gunked up, vacuum sounding like day 1 now.
You saved me from buying another vaccum!! Thank you!!!
Thank you for this video! I can't believe the size clog i found in the where the handle meets the hose. Glad to know what that awful sound means. Thank you so much!
Very nice demo and stepwise trouble shooting.
Thank you! Mine was the handle hose was clogged with goldfish! I had gone through everything and was ready to buy a new vacuum
First time ever I've looked for help and I get exactly what I need
Awesome video! Finally found a clog in ours. Thank You!
LEGGOS! First you step on them, then they clog your vacuum
Thank you so much, your video tutorial helped me to stop my Shark vacuum making a horrible noise 😁. I really appreciate it 💐. I was thinking about buying a new one if I couldn't get it to stop.
Thank you so much for this video! It helped me solve our problem and saved me from buying a new vacuum.
Thank you this vacuum used to work perfectly and now it doesn’t suck well so I’m going to troubleshoot the areas you recommended thank you again
Saved my life at work. Thanks 🙏
Ugh so thankful! I had no idea to check the very bottom and did indeed find a clog! Thank you for saving me moneys lol
Omg so funny hahahahahha 😑😑
quite simply just one of those videos on youtube that saves people money. worth a small paypal token in my book! thanks
4 years later, THANK YOU! We had change stuck in ours at the bottom.
Thank you, thank you!!! This was the second video I watched trying to figure out why I didn't have suction. I did not know I could open the bottom and I found an SD card holder that was sucked up blocking everything! Works beautifully now!
Thanks, Gearmo! Learned a couple of things here.
Thank you for the great info. I can see in my tube the one you showed with the leggo some lint, hair a leaf… I can’t reach it all. I got around half and it’s to deep to get it all even with a long phillips. I can’t find how to reach it from the other side?
Had the same issue with the noise coming out the side. Checked all hoses and no clogs.
Cleaned the thicker filter and not the one below thinking the thin one wouldn’t make any difference. Put back together and still made the loud suction noise.
cleaned out the thin filter and now is fine
Hey bro your video just helped me figure out why was my vacuum doing that loud suction noice thank you for sharing this video
Thank you! I was able to repair my Vacuum by following along!
Those darn Legos!!
Thank you! Straight forward and to the point!
