- Following the spectacular debut of the BMW iX Flow Featuring E Ink at CES 2022, the BMW Group is now unveiling a full-colour version of the E Ink technology in BMW i Vision Dee that will be used as the outer skin of the vehicle for the first time worldwide.
BMW i Vision Dee, rather than simply alternating between black and white, now showcases a multi-coloured, fully variable and individually configurable exterior. An ePaper film from the BMW Group’s cooperation partner, E Ink, is applied to the body to create this magical display of colour. Up to 32 colours can be displayed.
The body surface of the BMW i Vision Dee is divided into 240 E Ink segments, each of which is controlled individually. This allows an almost infinite variety of patterns to be generated and varied within seconds. The laser cutting process used to trim the films and the electronic control design were developed in partnership with E Ink. The adaptation of this technology for curved surfaces and the programming of the animations, were developed by BMW Group’s in-house engineers - enabling a form enabling a form of customisation that is unique throughout the automotive sector worldwide.

idk how anyone else, but in my country you can get it registered as "chameleon", so i dont see much problems there
Simple fix on the v5c have it say multi layered colours
that will be addressed when the car is imported to the country, bmw will decide if it's worth it to import there based off how the color changing will be accepted

One panel in particular, near the center of the roof appeared to be damaged. Not only did it have a miscolored triangular section, but the entire panel never quite matched the colors of the rest of the car. I can imagine this being a frequent issue.
The panels themselves seemed to be all or nothing as well. This technology could be virtually infinitely flexible allowing for designs, words, etc... You could say drive an all business look to and from the office and switch to a Nascar design or something silly like that on the backroads. But, as demonstrated, is limited to stripes and patterns dependent on the size and shape of the panels, many of which were rather odd shapes. Obviously, this is something that could be improved over time with both better hardware and software, but this implementation is a safe choice.
Also, imagine someone driving by and sending a malicious signal to your car... Suddenly you are obliviously driving a dic-pic down the freeway.

LOL. I chose the colour of my clothes based on what's clean and not all creased.
I like the idea of colour changing panels, but this will make vehicle identification extremely difficult, especially if other manufacturers adopt some sort of colour changing tech. There needs to be a way to not only automatically update the colour with the DMV/Transportation Ministry, but also maintain a history of all colour changes, otherwise miscreants and criminals will take advantage of colour changing to cover their tracks.
Can you imagine how much it would cost to repair such a vehicle that's involved in a collision?

The problem with brands like BMW, they just leave it with the concepts... So sad. :( Tesla at least really is bold by just DOING it. Bold like the Yoke steering wheel. Minimal interior and just one display. Certain gadgets. Over the air updates. And much more. Only Tesla really DARES to bring out stuff. Other brands are too afraid. Too scared !!!!!!
Love musk fanboys. Yes tesla does things and avoids concepts but some of their decisions are really awful. You really need to go through the testing first. That’s why other brands wait. They test to make sure the product is safe or to demonstrate a specific technology. Car companies do this because they are under strict regulations. BMW has been around for over 75+ years. Tesla was created in the 2000’s. Don’t think that tesla doesn’t have issues as well.

@@AsherPrime07 i have many collegues with both BMW's. Even one guy total fan. Had a nice M4 with 430hp. He just bought an i4 M50. But i got also many collegues like one model Y performance and many Model 3's. Even one collegue who was also BMW fan but had to pay 5000 euro for a mistake on BMW side. Then went to lexus. Now owns a Model 3. He said the model 3 has the least problems of all the cars he owned. The guy with the i4 m50 always had problems with his BMW's cant tell much about the i4 m50 yet as its brand new.. so im curious how it holds up i will ask him later in about a year about it. I had 10 more collegues with BMW's alot of them had engine problems except for one who had a 6 in line engine 2.5 liter with m style package. That was the ONLY ONE without engine problems. Everybody else have spend from 5 to 15.000 euro on repairs on their BMW's. All collegues with Tesla's had zero problems. Biggesr problem is that they have to replace the tires after they are done... wow thats a big deal.

Totally useless. What a waste of money, time and recourses. It makes me sad, that bmw solves the problem of my fitting car colour for each day, but not give a damn about any important topics, like environment or supporting human rights in the world.
