    I trimmed and pruned mine multiple times per year to keep it under control here in Central Florida. I have 2 purples, one pink and 1 white with pink.

    I live in SW Missouri, so I have to overwinter my Bougainvillea...I bought it on clearance 5 years ago. It doesn't start blooming here until the temps reach in the 90s. Mine is the beautiful magenta color. Just found your channel.

    I’ve only just discovered you can train them up. (Very new to gardening) We have one planted in front of our house that gets very unruly. I thought it died with the freeze we had here in Texas, but 4 months later it is 6 feet tall again. I’m looking forward to giving it some structure.
    Thank you for your videos!

    This spring really played mind games with our poor plants. I'm looking forward to seeing an update on this. 💚

    Bill; A couple of years ago I planted 2 hanging baskets with multiple colors of Bougs. The baskets were the wicker-look with water reservoirs like you use. Had 6 or 7 Different Colors in each, so when it bloomed it was Beautiful ~ Pruned back & stored indoors for Winter... Didn't do too well the 2nd year (most likely potbound).Have to agree Bougs are a Thorny Bitch when time to prune.

    Hi Billy, I asked you about my bro's. bougainvillea a number of years ago. Seriously, he tried to kill it. Well after years of abuse from either the cold winters or rabbits eating her down it has been gifted to me. I don't think she knows how to bloom.
    Anyways, I repotted her and it looks like she is trying to sprout some new growth. Hopefully, fingers crossed, I can resuscitate her and get some colour. I know that it was more than likely salvaged from the discount table at the store as well. So, it maybe a tough go, but I like the challenge.

      Glad it will start getting some care 😀 can't wait to hear of your progress... fingers crossed for some flowers eventually

    We had one years ago. Babied it for years. It’s a fussy plant. I go tired of all the fuss and just let it dry up.

    I'm making mine into tree, should I wrap the stem/trunk or just continue to prune the babies?

    I thought the gardener who planted my new bougainvillea killed it but now it's growing fast. It has several off shoots, do you think it would be okay to tie them all up? Or just pick a goody one and do that? I want to avoid the huge mounds that are all over the place here in Tempe, AZ.

    Can I prune my bougainvillea when it’s in flower? I want to take off the lower branches to turn this young plant into a standard.

    I've seen bougainvillea in stores where I live but it gets too cold here to overwinter outside. Shame because they are beautiful.

    Is it okay to prune in fall 6 weeks or so before moving indoors? Love your channel in Niagara Canada

      It should be fine... personally i would just do the necessary branches so it can be moved easily through the door... and leave the big prune for spring.

    is it okay to cut the top of the main stem, or will it stunt it's growth and cause it to grow outwards instead of upwards? i'm trying to train 4 of my bougainvillea plants into standards!

    • @PlantzNThings
      @PlantzNThings  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can cut the top... if you want your plant to get taller you can always choose another leader branch

    I want my bougainvillea to grow up Taller as a tree. So I just cut all the branches at the bottom and middle ? That will force it to grow UPWARD???

    • @PlantzNThings
      @PlantzNThings  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You need to find the main trunk.. remove any side branches... it will take time.. I like yo give the plant a good pruning in the spring... and then let it grow out in the summer and fall....

    I love bougainvillea! Reminds me of home ❤️ I'm now in Pennsylvania (zone 5A-6B). We have an unheated south facing sunroom. Do you think theres a chance? I've got 2 year old Plumeria out there that haven't perished yet, sooo??? 🤷🏼‍♀️ What do you think?

    • @PlantzNThings
      @PlantzNThings  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I say it's worth a shot... as long as it doesn't freeze you should be ok... if the plumeria survived it... there's hope :)

      @@PlantzNThings I'll give it a go. A dear friend will surely give me a cutting, so all it'll cost is postage. Might as well try, right? 😊
