Happy birthday Calpis! They burn the tanzuku thingys + the bamboo. Essential part of the ceremony. Bit like sending your wish list to Santa by throwing it on the fire and watching the ashes go up the chimney. There was a Tanabata Festival at a japanese garden here in belgium last sunday. We were given wooden things (more like the ones you see hung up at shrines) to write our wishes on. Naturally no one wrote their name and address on the back😁

Interesting, 七夕originated in China, but the in the Chinese version of the story, the weaver daughter actually descended down with some of the other goddesses to bathe in a river, and the cow boy took her clothes, and they end up getting married. But then her father the sky god found out and took her back to the heavens. The rest is similar. Wish everyone had a happy 七夕with their loved ones, and Eric hope your mom gets well soon.

This is a really nice upload! I love it. Tanabata reminds me of my kindergarten days. Back then I never knew what to write on a tanzaku. It is very sweet that Eric writes his wishes in Japanese on a tanzaku for her Mother. I wish her really well. It has been a while since I was last back in Japan, but I always remember Tanabata.

Very picturesque. It's nice that traditions like this are kept alive. I get the impression Japan is quite good at this, or is it mainly for commercial reasons? Boring fact: it would take roughly 2 * 10^21 magpies to build a wing bridge spanning the _actual_ Milky Way, if my math isn't all wrong. That's a lot of magpies. Also nice gesture, best wishes to your mom.

    • @kydeanderic

I’ve know about tanabata for awhile but I didn’t know the colors of the tags have meaning that’s so cool! Also I heard from somewhere that the reason for putting your address on there is so that the gods know exactly where to send your wishes and apparently if you can write your whole wish in one breath it’s extra lucky but no one really does that anymore.
Best wishes and prayers for your mother hope things get better for her soon!
Oh my wish! Mine is that I hope me and my fiancé can find a place to live that’s our own and that I can find a job I can do well at.

If I recall this correctly the Calpis packaging is actually inspired by Tanabata. Hence the blue with white dots for stars. For some reason most bottles or cans of it now use white with blue stars. For those who want to try it outside Japan the name was changed to Calpico because of how the original sounds in English.

*~Eric,* you look really good in those glasses! And *Kyde,* dear; you always look marvellous ...!! // I sincerely do hope that your mum is feeling much better, and that she'll be in excellent health, Eric! // Tanabata does have a most intriguing back-story; but, hmmmm: getting to meet-up just once per year...?? That is a bit harsh; does "Tanabata" translate, possibly, as: The, "Well-It's-Better-Than-Nuthin" Festival, i wonder?? And also, 'not if it's raining'...?! Wow, talk about putting obstacles in the way of true love ({: \ ...! Well, at least - as Kyde said, "...it is the most glittery"; that alone certainly makes it worth the price of admission, i would say. Oh, and a very Happy*100th*Birthday - to "CowPiss" ({; D ...! And may all your wishes come true, **K&E*!!*
