Very much agreed! Didnt even think of that. This would make an awesome "backup truck" for a friend to try crawling! Way to think positive my RC friend 👍⚓😃
It's really easy to swap tires on one of those and it makes a huge difference on performance. A cheap car can usually be upgraded at your own pace and comfort level.
We've named the hill for ya.... "Saylors Peak" I absolutely love your channel. You two are an AWESOME couple that share the same interest and i can tell how much love you two have for each other and the love you have for R/C from planes to drones to cars to boats. My favorite R/C channel is yours and JayTee R/C. Thank you guys for being so informative and AWESOME!
I got 2 of these and not too happy them. Me and my wife took them out and on the first day the steering went out in both of them! and we were not even being rough with them. looks like they got some kind of gearbox and a little motor that makes it work. Well the motors burned out in both of them that day that steers them. I was going to put one of my servos in them but they have a little receiver board that has a five wire servo setup/ so a regular servo would not work. So I took the receiver board out and put in some 45 amp speed controllers, get 2 two channel radios, and 2 metal geared servos for the steering and they are doing good so far now. They are really fun now. We have had them about 2 months now. To do each truck like this the cost was about 70 dollars each truck, and we could not find them at 60 dollars they said out of stock. I gave about 100 dollars a peice for them. I was wandering if anybody else had to do this with theirs.
I think the most impressive thing is how well it handled side hilling. I'm not sure even the Barrage Gen2 would have done that without rolling. I'm not so sure it's a sound investment though. I would rather spend twice as much, or so.. like maybe a $90 WLToys 12428-B or 12429, $110 Axial SCX24, $150 Yeti Jr. or $180 Barrage Gen2, and have something that's going to last way longer. $60 doesn't seem like much bang for the buck knowing it's probably going to break in a week or two use.
I got 2 of them 1 for my grandson and 1 for myself. And have a bunch of extra shocks and motors and electronics I was able to improve both of them with parts I had from other projects. And I honestly can say my grandson and I go to the beach and just have a ball with them. For the cost in stock for they are still fun but I'm 1 of those that what to see if they can be even better with only spare parts we have. But in all honesty as long as it makes my little grandson happy and laugh it's more than worth it.Thank for sharing.
I am just so happy to read your comment. This is exactly what the hobby is supposed to be about and so many people quickly lose sight of. You keep up exactly what you are doing my RC friend. High Fives all day long 👍⚓😃
Would have been nice if you had purchased it using our link, as that helps to support our channel at no extra cost to you, but we are glad you are enjoying the hobby either way. Remember, our videos are 100% FREE for everyone in the world, and one way that helps to keep them that way is simply by using our links 😉 Have a great day, and thanks for watching!
Yes stay safe I think this crawler is working well because the motors are giving a low center of gravity weight with the tire certainly looks cool and I think this is a great deal for $60
Hey, when you've been making RC videos nearly every day for almost seven years and a 1/10 scale crawler comes along with proportional throttle and steering with 4WD RTR with a rechargeable battery and charger.. yeah.. Mind Blown 😉👍⚓😃
For it getting bogged down, that looks like V-droop. Try upgrading its battery to a nice LiPo. Do that, find a way to put grippier tires on there, and you've got yourself a BEAST of a crawler!
I have gobs of fun with a $26 Danchee Trail Hunter, which is also fully proportional, twin motor crawler, but 1/12 scale. It even has pretty good tires. I may have to give one of these a try.
Considering prices tend to jump for true 1/10 scale and larger, a $60 1/10 scale probably best compares to the $30-40 range for 1/12 scale. In that respect, this crawler holds its own against the competition. Nice option for kids, and you won’t cry about the loss if they wreck it. Alas, you’ve spoiled us with all those premium, hobby-grade crawlers. This poor, little, toy-grade fellow doesn’t stand a chance following a lineup like that! (It just wants to grow up to be like them someday!) 😉
Hi Nate and Abbey. I am Rich from Muskegon, Mi. Does this truck look upgradable, or is it just a toy? I have just subscribed a few minutes ago on my iPhone but I have been watching you two on my tv. Great videos, keep it up. Hope to see more. Happy new year stay safe
My son have the same car and is very happy with performance. Or he was, becouse suddenly 4 wheel drive stoped working and only rear drive responds. Is there an easy solution to fix it?
I’ve been watching your videos for a while and I was online and looking at some 1/10 budget crawlers. Do you think buying a redcat gen 7 would be way to get into scale crawlers?
Battery capacity of all these is about 1/2 of what the number stamped on the pack. So, "600mah" Nicd pack is actually about 330mah. Factory seconds of marginal defective batteries. Liquidated to toy grade.
At that price, I assume it can't be brushless, right? I gave up on brushed motors after the Latrax Alias motor burn out issues (because their gearing and design were grossly overloading the motors). Yeah, I know that ground vehicle motors don't require the high rpm of copter blades, but still would rather pay a little more up front to never see those types of motor burn out issues ever again. See if this truck can out tug the (t-word) one. If it could, that'd be a hoot! As always, thanks for the video and keep up the good work!
Yeah I never was a huge fan of the Alias. Poor built quality, for long term anyways. That's why we never featured it on our channel. So you may be surprised to hear this but most crawler trucks actually prefer a nice brushed motor. I guess they have higher torque than most Brushless motors especially at lower RPMs. Hope this helps!
@TheRcSaylors Cool channel. We just opened a Maisto Rock Crawler 3XL we got from amazon last year when it was on sale. Our young toddlers had a blast with them. but the run time on the 500mah 6.4v battery died in less than 15 mins on mowed grass. Would the model you recommend here be a worthy upgrade or should I try to mod the truck I have now?
upgrade for now & use the maisto too experiment on & fix up in the meantime. I suppose a thing you could try is an adjustable bec & put it at 6v while buying a proper 2s lipo of like 1000 mah or similar (don't know the dimensions of the battery compartment so not sure what too recommend there but a 2s lipo on a adjustable bec that limits the voltage should give it more oomph & still be safe too run for the kids.) & buy a lipo buzzer for safety of the battery so it's not run until it's dead or forgotten plugged in & on so you'll end up having too throw the battery away. & tell the kids too bring the car too you once it starts making noise constantly after you show what it should sound like when its low on battery & how too unplug it. Should be able too stick the battery down with some velcro (the type with tape on the other side & then one strip on the battery too hold it in place.) On the underside of the crawler or in the same spot as the original battery after soldering on another battery connector too it if needed.
Wow that trucks not to bad for the price..be a great starter truck for young kids who are looking to get into crawling, im a grown up kid and i think its pretty cool...lol
Okay Saylors, I'm new to the channel and like your review videos, but what about maintenance? Is there a good RC tool starter kit? And what other things I would need to maintain an RC car, boat.plane? If you covered this in and old video leave a link in the comments. Thanks
Nice video 👍👍👍. I want a rock crawler but I'd like it to go fast and I'm on a budget, do you have any videos or suggestions for a fast rock crawler under $200?
@@TheRcSaylors Yes, thank you for replying I suppose that's exactly what I'm looking for, a "rock racer". I'll check Amazon right now. Do you have videos on budget friendly rock racers? I'm looking for a 10th scale or bigger for under $200. Thanks again
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but 1/10 scale rock racers at that price point will leave you having buyer's remorse. It would be great if a vehicle existed for that price that I could recommend, but it does not.
Noice! I like that it comes with "two people"... don't really care about an "extra wheel" it's nice..."realistic" but c'mon people would we all rather have lights? or something else? At least the cost isn't that high. .....but still personally i wouldn't recommend vehicles that have those trim at the bottom. Oh, and i think it's because the grass is wet....which is why you get stuck.... i also wonder if it will do much better if you put "chains" or the like on the tires....
I beg to differ, you can get a danchee ridgerock from redcat racing for $99 from amazon to less, and get a lot more crawler, and even get 4 wheel steering, while still being 1/10 scale, so this isnt the best under $100 crawler you can get Edit: i will add though, it probably is the best, or at least one of the best $60 crawlers you can get, in the $100 or less range, that expands things a bit and you might have more then just the ridgerock i mentioned and this one you reviewed, i doubt anyone can know every single sub $100 1/10 scale crawler on the market. you all should really try the ridgerock, bet you would have a blast with it
Hey, I'm always very happy to talk shop. I've had my eye on that Danchee recently, and it does look like some crazy, budget RC fun! We LOVE redcat for many reasons. You do have to consider though, it is nearly Double the price of this truck, and for more people in the world than you might realize that is a HUGE stretch of their funds. Now, we will NEVER be the reason a person gets turned away from the hobby, especially because of financial status. You and I are very lucky to be able to consider a more expensive option. Please dont forget about those who are less fortunate, and please never turn anyone away from the hobby, especially because they may have less money than you. Hope you have a truly awesome RC day my friend! Let's grow this hobby together 👍⚓😃
@@TheRcSaylors That is a super good point, i edited my original post about the same time i think you replied basically saying the same, in the $60 price point the one you reviewed would be super hard to beat, expand that to $100 and options expand as well, heck you could get a mn-90 kit or rtr for in the $60 range, wouldn't be as capable a crawler as the one you reviewed, but is kinda like the wpl-c14 or c24, offers a more scale experience while still getting your crawl on. You guys are ever in the Knoxville tn area, id be happy to let you borrow some of them for review, i have the ridgerock, mn-90 with some metal upgrades, the hg-p407 you did a review on, but with better tires, and a relocated servo, those 2 things alone make that a entirely different animal if you still have yours, look up the servo mod at the very least, that takes nothing to do, if you have a 3d printer or access to one, many people have made a mount for the servo and moving it is easy, its all the way in the back of that truck with some crazy arms connecting it, makes for some bad steering. The tires that are perfect drop on replacements are the Tamiya (#51324) CR-01 Vise Crawler Tire, ebay seems to be about the only place to find them these days. its a night and day difference. and even have a hill not unlike yours right across from my house in the subdivision. not to mention some wonderful washout dirt ravines right at the end of the block.
I def consider this a toy honestly, but that being said… It definitely beats what you get at Walmart for 60 bucks. If you’re looking for a good RC toy this would be right up your alley. And starter for a little kid.
I bought a Power Craze Rock Force from Target for my kid for Christmas it was just $60 and I figured it would be good for him to put around with. I was so surprised by how well it did I started considering getting myself one so I can put around with him out front. I came to find out that the Rock Force is basically the 104310 rebranded but the 104310 actually has proportional steering and throttle. Based on this video I decided I'd pick one up although it's no longer $60 (think I paid $80). I'm just wondering if anyone has done any mods to these things to make them a little better, like oil filled shocks, new ESC or different tires?
Very good point my friend. That's one reason we love ground vehicles too! They can be driven just about anywhere, and wind is almost never a factor 👍⚓😃
That's really cool! Wish you would have considered buying it through our link though. It helps to support a small, America family rather than a large corporation. Either way, at least you guys are enjoying the hobby as a family 👍💯😁⚓
@@TheRcSaylors yeah i just seen ypur video on this after i bought the car but if i would have seen this first i would have deffinetly bought it through you guys. I recently subscribed to you guys love the videos you put out. And i get to see what future rc cars i want to buy next thank you for your videos and hard work.
I got one at Wal mert last weekend the battery wasn't to good. I ordered a wltoys esc with controller cause the controls are twitchy. I put pits bull tires I had on it and run a 7.2 1500mah runs good but not always four wheel drive. Mostly front wheel drive . It only cost 48 bucs . Was worth it .
Did the the new controller work with the Walmart version? Was thinking of doing the same thing. Did it make the steering proportional? Also do you have a link for the tires was wanting to upgrade as well but don't know the specs
I got the tires from a local hobby shop. Yes got the new esc and new steering servo for wltoys buggy. But it doesn't have a controller so I'm stuck again. I usually look on ebay. The tires are 1.9 size for a 1/10 scale I don't have the link but I hope this helps
Hey thanks Mike for the quick response this helped alot. I'm going to head down down to the local hobby shop today and fit it with new tires at least. Would you say the battery upgrade made a big difference?
@@djd-loc9477 ya it helped running time and gave it alittle more power it is still geared low . I'm going to eventually put shocks on it. Glad I could help rc on lol
sorry to bug you again i went out to get new tires in the process, I messed up the old set of rims due to over boiling. Is the hex a 12 or 14 on this car do you know by chance?
Maybe you want to try crawling or gift an awesome, cheap crawler! You can buy this one here - bit.ly/2Y4BZL0
Should give the vrx racing BF-4/FTX Mighty thunder a try it's sort of in between a solid axle monster truck & crawler in terms of looks & performance, lacking a bit on the tires though i believe due too the pattern & top speed is quite a tad higher then most crawlers 21 km/h on the stock battery, but not by much.
But ordering that with some cheap crawler tires should be a good buy as well for the money + perhaps a lipo buzzer too run a 2s lipo. or simply borrowing the tires off another crawler as a test.
It has a 540 motor that is a 27t i believe (its not specified but id say the performance is around there), pretty slow as a monster truck compared too something like the new cen racing electric solid axle monster trucks, it still has some flex though for crawling over stuff but should be fun trying out with some other tires on the hill.

@TheRCSaylors, thumbs up for you guys... thumbs down for the truck. :( It seems like a walmart special truck. Nope for me.
Do you no the wheel and rim measurements if it's OK to ask
Some of these are hit or miss with digital proportional steering and throttle.
The one I modded was not proportional.
But now it is. Was a great re engineering exercise. Took two years to mod. Original price was $45. The lack of a real two speed center diff, is glaring reality of too high speed vs torque.

& tell the kids too bring the car too you once it starts making noise constantly after you show what it should sound like when its low on battery & how too unplug it.
Should be able too stick the battery down with some velcro (the type with tape on the other side & then one strip on the battery too hold it in place.)
On the underside of the crawler or in the same spot as the original battery after soldering on another battery connector too it if needed.
How fast is it?
Not to bad for a toy crawler! I have an new bright fj cruiser 1/10 scale 4×4 crawler and it can out do my ecx barrage !
Can it handle the ROOT of all evil, lol.
Wow that trucks not to bad for the price..be a great starter truck for young kids who are looking to get into crawling, im a grown up kid and i think its pretty cool...lol
Nice for the price. You should check out the Danchee RidgeRock. For the price it’s nice and has some extras I think you would like.
$120 on Amazon now. I picked up the Danchee RidgeRock instead for $110.
I just bought one from Walmart, only $50.00 but really awesome. I even ordered an extra set of wheels for it so that I can remove the fake spare. LOL
Okay Saylors, I'm new to the channel and like your review videos, but what about maintenance? Is there a good RC tool starter kit? And what other things I would need to maintain an RC car, boat.plane? If you covered this in and old video leave a link in the comments. Thanks
Cool. WLtoys wins the hill again. Good job on the videos. Popeye missed an opportunity for his tagline "Well blow me down". LOL
Hahaha, why didnt I think of that 😂😂🤣🤣
Hello nice crawler
Really impressive for the price 👍⚓😃
lol oh no i think ill give this one a miss, does look cool though, but quite good for a kid as a first time crawler.. :)
Nice video 👍👍👍. I want a rock crawler but I'd like it to go fast and I'm on a budget, do you have any videos or suggestions for a fast rock crawler under $200?
Do you mean a Rock Racer? Crawlers are inherently slow vehicles.
I beg to differ, you can get a danchee ridgerock from redcat racing for $99 from amazon to less, and get a lot more crawler, and even get 4 wheel steering, while still being 1/10 scale, so this isnt the best under $100 crawler you can get
Edit: i will add though, it probably is the best, or at least one of the best $60 crawlers you can get, in the $100 or less range, that expands things a bit and you might have more then just the ridgerock i mentioned and this one you reviewed, i doubt anyone can know every single sub $100 1/10 scale crawler on the market. you all should really try the ridgerock, bet you would have a blast with it
Hey, I'm always very happy to talk shop.
You should stick to one place for test rc. Easy to make comparison.
Thanks a lot for tuning in 👍⚓😎
I def consider this a toy honestly, but that being said… It definitely beats what you get at Walmart for 60 bucks. If you’re looking for a good RC toy this would be right up your alley. And starter for a little kid.
Early squad where you guys at (:
The Fam Jay Crew 👋🏼
I bought a Power Craze Rock Force from Target for my kid for Christmas it was just $60 and I figured it would be good for him to put around with. I was so surprised by how well it did I started considering getting myself one so I can put around with him out front. I came to find out that the Rock Force is basically the 104310 rebranded but the 104310 actually has proportional steering and throttle. Based on this video I decided I'd pick one up although it's no longer $60 (think I paid $80). I'm just wondering if anyone has done any mods to these things to make them a little better, like oil filled shocks, new ESC or different tires?
hi, can you review the losi tenacity DB?
I love my red cat rs10 crawler 4w steering real metal beedlocks all waterproof super soft tires incredible articulation for only $140
This is why I started rc cars, can’t fly my drone in strong winds, makes no difference with my wltoys a959 b 👍🏻
Very good point my friend. That's one reason we love ground vehicles too! They can be driven just about anywhere, and wind is almost never a factor 👍⚓😃
You should check out Danchee trailhunter pro from redcat. $26 1/12 crawler! Surprisingly decent r/c. Perfect for a young kid.
I have the adventure force rc from walmart n that was 49.99 n there is a channel that shows u can upgrade real easy
Amazing.. Stick some thumb tacks through the inside of the wheels, add a dab of glue and give it a go.. lol - It should crawl up anything then. :D
I got the someone but its orange and black and I only paid $49.99 for mine and I love it
About the exact same one at Walmart for 50 and it's called rock crawler from adventure Force
is it waterproof?
Hmm, I probably wouldn’t risk it at this price. Still a neat RC! Thanks for watching! 👍😁😎⚓️
Is this toy grade?
Yes sir
Yes it is, but a really nice one at that 👍⚓😃
I'm interested in giving side of rc a go. I plan on getting on through ebay tomorrow.
Pretty darn sweet..and still $60.01
Can you guys please climb up a slide with the gen8
Please
Please
Please
It will be challenging
Walmart sells the same rc but its undwr adventure force burnout buggy. Bought for my 5 year old he loves it.
Thanks Carson!! All is good 😁👍 Really appreciate you thinking of us and watching 😎⚓
