@@THEJAYYSHOW Yeaaaaahh baby! 80's music gets made fun of because that's when "pop music" came onto the scene, also because it was hard to technically define EXACTLY what it was??? But let me tell you something most of the rock bands back then were off the charts! They also had to have range...very few ONLY played a certain kind of music, like hard driving and that was it. Everybody had to have a variety or you wouldn't get crossover radio play nationally and there was a chance you'd die out. Journey AND REO Speedwagon were two of my favorite bands back then and still are today. PLEASE REACT TO THE OFFICIAL VIDEO~CAN'T FIGHT THIS FEELING. It truly was one of their biggest hits & it was a cool song, and no way were we gonna have something all types of totally sappy or cheesy🧀. We picked it for our wedding song in the WayBack Machine on October 25, 1985! This was with my first husband Bobby (Rest in Peace) BUT that's the only REAL wedding I had, and it was BIG! We had 13 ppl on our wedding party in over 300 guests, his parents had divorced and both remarried so that's 3 families, not 2 we were deal with. Then I waited over 20 years & a broken engagements to other ppl later to do it over again. It was nothing like anybody expected and I still got divorced. THAT wedding wasn't what people would consider conventional at all. THIS IS our/my only wedding song, and thankfully THAT FAMILY IS STILL MY FAMILY, not HIS second wife's. It's me, Brian her youngest AND of course MOM, nowhere to be found for at least 10 yrs contact is Bobby's WIDOW. NOPE. I'M not his widow, I'm the ex-wife by a few years B4 he married HER. OUR brother Freddy just passed and WE decided we're not telling Mom, she's got dementia bad & is in a nursing home. Better to have some peace of mind, he's not in touch much. It's mostly Bri, and me THROUGH him cuz he's got POA and I'm in the same state... but he's her son and can contact them since things shut down with covid & nobody can actually get into the nursing home with her. But we made the family decision because it's only US left now, plus my "sister" (Mini Me)>his wife Monica, and my niece & nephew from them. It's wild cuz it's always holidays & birthdays you think about people a lot after they've passed on. Our wedding was 2 days before my 20th birthday, I wasn't even legal to drink! Then years later he actually died ON his birthday. We tell people that he went out on the day that he came in, so truly his life did make a full circle. So every year when his birthday comes up it's just a very strange feeling for us. It's really weird from me, things were told to me privately 3 years after Bobby's death. It didn't match what ppls story's were. But alcohol loosens people's tongues and truths come out. I don't care SHE took my share of my insurance money. She was it aware that OUR old friends from when we were married and had a business together. THEY kept their mouth shut because they never truly liked her. They were the ones who came and spoke to me later. These were the people that he worked with and that helped US build business up for nothing. This reminds me of when were ALL young and starting out together AND happy. THEIR loyalty was still brought TO ME several years after his death. Even though it had been almost A DECADE since we'd been divorced. Through his job, THE FIRST WIFE (myself) is who was on our original life insurance policy, during ALL the years that WE were married. That gets PRORATED from his death benefits package. IN our state, I wasn't to be removed of that policy UNTIL we were legally divorced. I ALSO wasn't to be removed from his insurance UNTIL we were legally divorced. So, after Bobby had his TWO AUTOPSIES WERE DONE. His death was actually ruled to be as one conclusion. When words of loyalty came back to me later of what she did with that money? Believe me there were no surprises. After Bobby died, she decided to go against everything that was PRE-PLANNED for him. She went against everything that he wanted done at the end of his life. As you know sis~people who believe in GOD or how the UNIVERSE works or how FATE will treat you in the end or whatever. Evil is NEVER rewarded with goodness or any type of prosperity. Her business did fail eventually within less than a year. That was because it was started on HIS blood MONEY. I didn't find out about his wake until AFTER IT WAS OVER. Brian had told me the whole family was wondering WHERE'S CHRISSY? They absolutely did expect me to show up for them, no matter the bad blood between me & her from years ago. Bobby's family doesn't need to know what I know. I know, his friends know. BUT most IMPORTANTLY~THE UNIVERSE AND GOD KNOWS WHAT WENT DOWN. SOME people think it's strange that she drifted off eventually from Mom. They think it's strange that she just pull back and went into the wind. People always thought it was strange how I got along so we wit Mom from day one. I always just thought it was so strange that some of my friends didn't get along with THEIRS! In my relationship with Mom~IF WE didn't talk on the phone at least twice a day that wasn't normal for us. People also think it's strange that we consider each other family still to this day. Years ago, I had split pretty much from a lot of people. I was out doing my own thing & then I got my head right. Next year is when I'll be clean 20 years for drugs. THE OTHER ONE has absolutely no contact with our family, for years. SHE doesn't even bother to send MOM a Christmas card once a year as a courtesy. BUT HERE I AM, and we've made it into 2021. I have been divorced from him since 1991. Funny thing is that Mom always told me that SHE will always be her DAUGHTER-IN-LAW. But to remember that no matter what~I will always be her DAUGHTER. So it's no joke about FAMILY not always being your blood. It's important TO HOLD ONTO some of the really good memories while you can remember them. I admit it with no problem or shame here. YES I AM VERY biased and attached when it comes to this song OVER all the others they came out with. It's not just for all the best reasons I had with my first (but somewhat difficult) husband. It's not just because of the memory I have of myself at the end of my teenage self at our reception. It's also because of everything great that I gained within my FOUND family. It's not just because this song it's me so deep because in a lot of ways it really was one of the happiest days of my life. It's ALSO the lyrics still hit me very hard in my heart. THERE STILL IS a huge part of me that relates to the title of the song when it comes to Bobby. This song also hits me hard in my heart because of the time frame that it came out. Right after that, in the course of two and a half weeks. That was when things got so much more dark for me. Three of my friends were murdered that summer. This was right after what myself and his friends knew that Bobby's "negligent homicide" was ruled the wrong way and I was suspicious of. Like I said I got the confirmation from our loyal friends later. BUT by that time there was no way to prove it. Even if I had gotten the verification earlier. There would have been no way for me to prove anything. My three friends were the same situation. We all know who did it, but couldn't prove it. So the emergency to this day remain as unsolved. This song is also one of their favorites when they were younger. One of my friends was much older but he liked it too. So that's another reason why it means a lot to me. When I used to bartender and all of us used to hang out. At every bar that I worked at, I made sure that the jukebox had this song put into it for us. Most of my friends were guys, so that was my crew of "My Dudes". We all like to play this for ourselves BUT also whenever some girl broke up with them. This song has so many meetings to people in different ways. For me, it's not just a love song. It's also a song that makes me think about a lot of loss. BUT there's a lot of good memories, and the fact that I still have happiness with my family throughout all of this. Even though things didn't work out for us in the end. I still think about how happy were that day and everybody coming up and dancing with us. I know this is a long post and I'M SORRY FOR THIS. BUT there's no other way to explain how much this song needs to make on so many levels. It means a lot also because they really ARE a great band. PLEASE react to the song, I think that possibly you may find it very touching in a lot of the same ways that I do. Again, I'm sorry for the long post but when I start talking about my ex-husband and our family. It's just that everything that went on with him just brings up a lot of memories when it comes to the song. Again I'm sorry for the long post, I know I sound like I'm rambling but there's a lot of different ways I feel about this is all. XOXO ❤️ #RestInPeaceBobby

Gary was what guitar players sometimes call a "tone master". He also had an incredible guitar "vocabulary" to go with that tone.

REO had many hits. They have rockers like this one along with several others way too numerous to start listing here, but they also have ballad type love songs. Some people say they went soft when they started playing slower songs and while I prefer the rockers, I respect their slower stuff and actually like many of the ballads. It all depends on my mood. If I am just rocking out, I listen to their hard stuff but, If I am with a lady and have some soft REO love songs playing and candlelight, I would usually get lucky. I have fun watching these videos trying to see what The Incredible Music I grew up to what younger generations Think these Bands like REO I spent my young years in out of Hospitals Doctors offices and Music was my Escape my Uncle’s gave me their Beatles collection and that’s all it took I was entering HS when REO Speedwagon had this album out and this Song says it Roll With The Changes. The very first thing I got to do once I recovered from major surgery my oldest brother took me to a concert and since then I with in a couple concerts of seeing 700 concerts Yes I found my Quiet Place a loud Rock’n Roll concert! Bands like REO and Journey so many Bands are now considered Classic Rock and seeing these Bands so many times Live and now they are as Big again It’s Great! You Absolutely seem like someone I could go to concerts with and Absolutely get it! This was one of my favorite songs for a minute. I love the change over from Neil on the piano/keyboard to Gary😇 guitar.
Too bad the "changes" they were talking about was their change in their overall product with "Hi Infidelity" It got them their well-deserved millions but was a drastic change to the dark side of HI. I bought the album the day it was released. Listened to it twice and sent it to my 12-year-old sister and said you're gonna love this. She didn't. She couldn't even believe it was REO.

Sorry cut myself off nice to experience all kinds of music I grew up in Oakland California and I listen to all types when I was a kid in the 70s fortunate enough to work for them later in my life

A very popular late 70s band. Their success went into the early 80s, but style wise I think of them as a 70s band. Highly skilled - they didn't seem to have any bad songs. The still tour with Styx I think. probably a very good retro show.

Couple of things. I have no idea where this version came from but I do know one thing. That is the studio track with an audience taped over top of it. was not live. And one other thing, if you don't know who this band is, start at the very beginning and start working your way through because there are 2 solid decades of amazing amazing music. That was one of their good songs. Not 1 of their great songs, 1 of their good ones. You are in for a ride and a 1/2 if you decide you want to take it.

As seen all all the comments below Gary Richrath was the Messiah as predicted in the Old Testament. Don't ignore all the comments from Gary fans below. Not only did he create REO Speedwagon he created life as we know it on earth.
