  • The ideal of kingship originates from an Indo-European ideal which is far from most people's modern conception.

    I think this year has shown why it would make sense to blame a king for natural disasters and plagues. A poor leader creates the circumstances in which such events can be truly disastrous.

      I enjoy STJ and related vids a great deal. For the layman such as myself they are an excellent source of information. I have watched almost every one. However, I have been active in far left groups (such as they are) im the U.S. and I must admit I find the politics often associated with PIE studies mystifying. Does anyone believe we can go back to such ancient conceptions and social forms? Divine kimgship? Sun worship? Theocracy?

      As someone who isn’t really involved in such politics, I find that the “far left” politics (which I’m assuming are progressive and socialist ideologies mixed with modern variations of liberalism, as I don’t entertain the idea of left wing and right wing as valid political concepts, given that both terms are so broad and vague and loose that they cannot be strictly defined without accounting for a constant change that can best be described as inconsistency. Notice that conservatives in the States are mostly taking libertarian and 1990s liberal ideas as the basis of their philosophy, whereas they would have absolutely detested such ideas back in the 1980s, 1990s, or even the 2000s. They cannot even remain consistent for 3 or 4 decades. Such is the problem I have with believing in left and right. Same problem I see with white identity groups that sometimes spring up when studying PIE culture. There really wasn’t a pan-European identity in the sense that they would want. That pan-European identity is largely a modern construct. Europe was divided in quarters with 4 different groups that all had a common Indo-European origin in the Bronze Age. The Celtic, Germanic, Mediterranean, and Slavic peoples are the peoples of Europe. Celts were in the islands and the west, Germanic people were in the north, Mediterraneans were in the south. Slavs were in the east. It should be born in mind that even these 4 groups were not strictly unified. Celts were split in two distinct ethnic variations, one Brythonic, the other Gaelic. Germanic people are divided in three, Saxons, Norse, and Continental Germans (in Austria and Germany) That old tribal system in its pure form likely wouldn’t come back. Even if you knew everything about the tribes, be they Celtic or Germanic, it matters not. We still don’t know everything about them. However, you could create something on a small scale that takes inspiration from those old Celtic tribes and see where it goes from there.

    We do have to always remember that our modern perception of what a king is, was very much shaped by several centuries of anti monarchy teachings by people who already had interests against it as much as anything else. As usual the truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

    Men like James Fitzgerald are interesting in this way, they prance around.
    But, for others, less qualified, as the Mac Cartaigh Mór, during the 9 Years War, they suffered later.
    And for great kings, such as Robert the Bruce, they achieved a victory of beauty.

    So now we know why a crown is a circlet of gold. 👸🫅👸🏾🤴🏾
    How you describe what a king should be - wise, strong, poetic, upholder of justice, holding the group or tribe together, are exactly what Moses, David, and especially Solomon were in the Torah. Again, the similarities in different cultures is so interesting. 🦁🌷🌱

    Yet another excellent vid. In my limited studies I have found that such idolized conceptions of divine right and noble kingship were often far from the realities and behaviors of actual absolute sovereignty, at least as they come down to us via the historical record. Modern civilization is a shit show no doubt. What alternatives should we fight for?

  • @luminous3357
    @luminous3357 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Kealan Kek-- Better to quietly reestablish the Brehon law on a local level and subvert the prevailing power structure in the process. Of course, everyone in the community would have to agree to abide by it and forego appealing to existing "authorities".
    The idea of the republic, like Christianity, was a foreign concept to the ancient Irish, as was the notion of a solitary centralized monarch. The society was structured around the power of local monarchs, Druids, and the Brehon law.
    Since a monarchical system is unlikely to return and the lineage of true Druidry has been broken, our best hope is to reanimate the Brehon Law on a small local level-- which is already being done in some places.
    We have a fairly accurate record re: the strictures underlying this system. All we need do is adopt it. Granted, it's laws were tailored to a way of life that no longer exists, but it can still be adapted to the modern world. This should be done from the bottom up though. Not from the top down.

    • @ALLHEART_
      @ALLHEART_ 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Celts in general, but specifically the Irish, adopted Christianity of their own accord, willingly. And God bless them for it. As for the notion of a republic, it is as foreign to Christianity as it was to the ancient Irish.

      No, Nemglan specifically states that he is the lord of Conaire's father's bird troop. I have never seen a link between Nemglan and Oengus, but if that is true, then Oengus would be the father, not Nemglan. Do you happen to know the source?

      It's the traditional depiction through myth of the aryan ideal of the solar king, sol personified, high priest of high priests, bridge between the gods and man. Historically we see clearly how many Kings did not fit this ideal, likely because the age in which we live is not ideal age, but an age of degradation and far inferior to the notion of such an ideal, an age that does not know divine kingship.
