I am now 66 yrs. old. In 1966 I was a senior in high school. My Dad and I went down to Mike Salta Pontiac in Sacramento CA. and ordered that big beast. No air, no power steering and no power breaks. It had a close ration four speed, a big quad carb and a 3.55 (long legs) rear end. Gun metal gray on black ( those seats were hot in the summer time). I tell people driving that car was better than sex. It was fun watching your video. I drive an '06 Mustang Gt Convertible these days. With all the bolt-ons it a real hobby. Thanks for the memories. Tim
Hey Jeff, The engine ran very well when I got it.I pulled the heads to install hardened seats to address the unleaded fuel, and figured I would port/polish/squeeze as much performance as I could out of stock heads. With the heads off,I realized there was a broken piston ring that had scored a cylinder very badly. Being the numbers matching/original block I didn't want to scrap it, and even considered sleeving it, but we were able to get it, although just barely, corrected with a .60 bore.
Chances of me getting rid of this car are pretty slim. I have survived some tough times without having to sell it...Bought it just over 25 years ago. Thank you, I really love the way it sounds too.
Nice ride! Love the sound of our Pontiac’s.....mine is black and red as well. 4speed, 4 bbl, posi, 3.55 and splitters. It’s numbers matching and is PHS certified. I have guys in $100,000 Porsche’s stopping me on the street. Our cars will only appreciate and grow rearer. Hang on to her and “ride like the wind”......
Man that takes me back to my old days back when I first got my license a friend of mine had the same year GTO . He loved that car as much as you do. Those cars are beasts.
I have all the pieces for a 4-speed conversion including the console. The auto was perfect for the bracket racing I used to do with it. One day...for fun...I will swap it over.
Beekeeper, very inspirational, I am slogging thru a long resto/mod on a 70 LeMans convert (428, OD automatic, etc) and vids like these give me a needed shot of motivation. Thanks- and thanks for driving it the way it was meant to be driven!
They probably did, but I didn't know about A.P.E. when I built this car. I was very fortunate that I bought this from the original owner, unmolested and complete except for the GTO badge on the trunk lid. No internet at the time and I was a young lad of 20 when I put this car together and more interested in going fast then correct engine paint. haha. The cam was custom ground at a local race shop, I have the cam specs in the GTO folder, I will pull them out later this weekend.
yourbeekeeper when i was sixteen/seventeen, my older sister (she was short and needed pillows to reach the pedals lol) bought a 66 GTO yellow/vinyl top 389 cu. in...she didn't drive it around very much...sweet head turner and the tires would screech every time you hit the pedal from a standing stop...her biggest mistake was to let me drive it around by myself showing off to my friends because i would peel out every chance to look cool...i wrecked that bad boy three different times!...stupid kid...no one was hurt, usually by myself...them were the days...you are lucky that you still have it...enjoy it...give it to the kids...great memories!...
It still has coil springs on all four corners...I had a shop custom make me springs that were 2" lower and stiffer than the stock ones. It rides beautifully.
I don't have anything like that put together. I am not really a car club or car forum kind of guy. I have been in clubs and even started what turned out to be a pretty big car club in the early '90's but lost interest in the whole scene. It sounds like a cool project to take on though..I have a stack of pics taken through the restoration process and through the years... I might just take something like that on. Thanks for the suggestion.
Have you ever considered trying an Edelbrock 750 cfm carb.? I've got one on my Tempest and it's the best. It starts and idles perfectly, pulls very well, and is easy to tune. I haven't touched mine since I set the idle speed and mixture almost ten years ago. Plus they don't leak fuel on the intake like a Holley and they look alot the Carter AFBs that came on these cars up until '66.
What State/Country you in? Online resources are plentiful...Craigslist, eBay etc. Patience it key to finding the right car...and the willingness to drive to get the right one. Good luck on your search.
Hey Randy, I know all too well the ebb and flow of enthusiasm during long term projects. I find it is less overwhelming to look at big projects in segments as opposed to the whole picture (of course you already have the "grand plan" in your head). Take one segment at a time and before you know it, you're cruising along, top down, wind in your hair and already thinking of the next project you want to tackle. hahahaha. Good luck and I sure hope you are building it to drive it.
Around 10 years ago I went with a full MSD system.. Billet dist, control box, coil etc. It has never missed a beat. I really am impressed with their durability...and I tend to work things to their limits. Thanks for watching.
Hello I just found your channel and am watching all of them you are a good guy and just wanted to thank you for doing these videos we need more like these just good common people doing things that interest them and ill maybe even learn a few things keep it up and keep enjoying life ps man im lovin that goat too cool
@chevydiesel350015 No power brake necessary with this ride, just mash the little pedal on the right and hold on. I did a video shoot for a local company about a year ago. I will dig up the footage and post some of the hole shots and donuts... it was a GREAT weekend. Stay tuned. I need to have a friend convert the video format to one that will edit on my Mac.
Wow, yes its definitely a car you should keep your entire lifetime. I'm glad you haven't sold it. I hope to see more videos of it before summers end that would be awesome. Do you have a profile for the car anywhere online on a car website? I'd love to see everything that's been done to it over the years. Maybe a video explaining the cars life story and how you acquired it stuff that's been going on and done to it over the years. That would be an amazing video!
@TinManKustoms Thanks for the comment... I like to spend my money where it counts.. making it fast. Not into chrome and billet... just my feelings. And yes, I build 'em to run 'em, always have, always will
Still have my 66 GTO, but i busted out too many turbo 350's trans, had to go with a turbo 400, might be cause i put a 455/40 over engine in it, this thing has way sick torque, mine is black to. I let it sit for too long and seing this vid makes me want to blow the cobwebs out and rip some black top like the good old days! thanks for the vid, now ima have to get to it.
+John Gotti I have had really great luck with the t-350, it was the same length as the slip-n-slide powerglide (no mode to the driveshaft or crossmember) and lighter than a t-400. I had it built by a race shop and have beat the holy hell out of it without any issues...of course I am running a big external trans oil cooler and change the fluids. I am running a 389/.60 over and am getting 420hp to the rear wheels. Thanks for watching!
+yourbeekeeper Just crusing through the vids and saw your post, changing the output shaft and moving the cross member back a coupla inches was no problem for me, i went with the turbo 400 cause of the bigger planitary gears and the survo was metal and not plastic (?) I lived in Phoenix at the time and that survo would get brittle from the heat, even with a cooler. Seeing your vid makes me want to listen to Ronny and the Daytonas "My litte GTO"
hey, im trying to buy a 66 gto, do you know where would be a good place to look besides cars.com. im looking for an ok condition then maybe tune it up. or in good condition
IN ALL SERIOUSNESS STEVE THX FOR THE SHOUT OUT AND THE AWESOME RIDE ALONG I CANT WAT TO SEE A TRIPOD SET UP AND YOU DOING A SMOKIE BURNOUT PAST THE CAMERA :) IM GOING TO GET A 66 SOME DAY AND DROP MY SPARE DURAMAX ENGINE IN IT BUILD IT AND I WANT SIDEPIPES SO I CAN ROLL COAL OUT BOTH SIDES GOOGLE SS DURAMAX ITS A 69 CHEVELLE TWIN TURBO THAT DOES 10 SEC 1/4 MILES HAS 950 TO 1200 H.P. AND IT GETS 36 MPG
Hey "yourbeekeeper", your videos are very entertaining! I'm a television producer and we're launching a brand new show called Whipp Appeal™ and your clips are exactly the type of things that would add a fun twist to the show. Salute!
i wish mine had backseats like that people always complain about their head touchin the ceiling haha. Its real fun to throw it around since its such a little car. But yoo gotta nice car there cant wait to get mine out this spring!
Very nice car! I was close at 67 GTO. Scott is a great guy, he came out to my house this past summer with a few other YT'ers, and we had a blast. The vids of the event are on my channel if your interested.
man that is bad to the bone GTO im only 19 but muscle cars for the win i wish i was around for the pony war back in the day keep those tires burning :)
hi there, nice car and love the videos im from canada and i have 67 beaumont sd i dont know if you ever seen one we share the same dash anyway if you want i can send you couple pictures of it sometime cheers
Thanks for watching. This car has always been "street trim" including full interior and spare tire. The rear end gears could be changed to improve the 1/4 mile, but then it's not really good on the street.
Thats one Bad ass GTO. Glad to see one that is simple but looks awesome and the best part you still run it like a horny teenager lol. Keep up the great videos.

Sweet Goat the Cam is music to our ears and that Black paint with Southside Red interior wow absolutely tuff

+Alan Goddard Thank you Alan.
I love the originality of your car
Thanks John.

Thanks, when I built this engine in 1989 paint options were pretty limited for anything other than Chevy or Ford. Maybe some day.
I am a Pontiac fanatic and the '66 GTO drips sex appeal! You're a lucky man!
They probably did, but I didn't know about A.P.E. when I built this car. I really like black hot rods. The '66 lemans is a sharp car as it sits... Thanks for watching.
Thank you... I have always love the line of this car.
Have you ever considered trying an Edelbrock 750 cfm carb.? I've got one on my Tempest and it's the best. It starts and idles perfectly, pulls very well, and is easy to tune. Awesome, sounds amazing! Don't ever get rid of this car! Seems like you've had it a very long time you mentioned.
I love the olds 442's. Great looking cars.

Yea....nice car thats real cool how you kept it so nice over the years.
Around 10 years ago I went with a full MSD system.. Billet dist, control box, coil etc. It has never missed a beat. I really am impressed with their durability...and I tend to work things to their limits. Thanks for watching.
I love this year of car. Pretty soon I'm restoring the same year of car. I love these things
It is a soothing sound for sure. Thanks for watching.

Love the car! My dad has the same and wants to put a rear antenna on the back. Do you know if yours is in the origonal spot?
If you've never left thinking like a teenager, is it really reliving?? hahahahaha Thanks for watching.
Thank you, this is my favorite body style muscle car as well.
A pleasure to watch your videos !
Wow, yes its definitely a car you should keep your entire lifetime. I'm glad you haven't sold it. I hope to see more videos of it before summers end that would be awesome.

That's AWESOME, Thanks for watching.
I noticed an extra piece of iron bolted to the front of the right engine head. That is not usually there on 326's and 389's.
@TinManKustoms Thanks for the comment... I like to spend my money where it counts.. making it fast. Not into chrome and billet... just my feelings. And yes, I build 'em to run 'em, always have, always will

Hey "yourbeekeeper", your videos are very entertaining! I'm a television producer and we're launching a brand new show called Whipp Appeal™ and your clips are exactly the type of things that would add a fun twist to the show.
Salute!
I always forget to ask? Punched .60 over. was there any problem with the block prior or were you just going for the increase in displacement?
Awesome, my dad has a green 70 GTO JUDGE!
I would be happy to answer your questions. We can communicate via personal messages through YT.
i wish mine had backseats like that people always complain about their head touchin the ceiling haha. Its real fun to throw it around since its such a little car. But yoo gotta nice car there cant wait to get mine out this spring!
Looks & sounds good. You need to paint the motor the correct metallic blue!!
No problem, even if its a brief story. I'd love to hear it someday.
Goodrich, good God, that beast needs some Pirrelli's!
***** I can't disagree with you... the tires on there now are old and definately need a replacement.
"Wow, the neighbors are going to LOVE me.."

Love it! Bad, No 4 Speed.
@camaroberlinette86 Thanks, Spring is right around the corner!
i'm learning to drive now on a rav 4. if only i was born 40 years earlier i could have something like this ;_;
Try Pacific Performance Racing down in San Pedro,CA. Ken can get you what you need.
Probably not.. the tires were cold.
That car should easily run in the 12's. Better gearing? Were you running it on street tires? Maybe it never got good traction. At any rate, nice car
Thanks for watching. This car has always been "street trim" including full interior and spare tire. The rear end gears could be changed to improve the 1/4 mile, but then it's not really good on the street.
did you do all the work to it
@yourbeekeeper no worries im staying tuned in lol
i have a 65 but the same motor. i just broke a piston and cant find replacement parts for it. ant ideas?
Are you sure this car has a 4-cyl because that's what you said on your "Cold Start" video.
