  • Profiling Hassidic punk rockers, Yiddish street performers, African-American Jewish activists and more, Punk Jews explores an emerging movement of provocateurs and committed Jews who are asking, each in his or her own way, what it means to be Jewish in the 21st century. Jewish artists, activists and musicians from diverse backgrounds and communities are defying norms and expressing their Jewish identities in unconventional ways. In the process, they are challenging stereotypes and breaking down barriers. Meet Yishai, lead singer of Moshiach Oi; Radical performance group, the Sukkos Mob; the renegade Orthodox participants of Cholent; the Amazing Amy Yoga Yenta; Kal Holczler, founder of Voices of Dignity; and African American Jewish hip hop sensation Y-Love.
"Punk Jews has the peculiar feel of a version of 60 Minutes concocted by the demented offspring of some MTV producer and a wonder-working chasidic mystic." - The Jewish Week

I once drove through New Square, just out of curiosity. I stayed in my car, drove real slow, didn’t film, wore modest clothes. Some guys started tailing me, pulled me over, and asked if I was lost. They said it was a private community. But there’s no gates, just signs about modesty, Shabbos, no profanity, slow speed, etc. I asked if they were public roads, like tax-payer funded. They said yes, so I told the truth. I was curious about them as a people, and I had abided by all the rules on their signs. It had been interesting, and now I was going my way. They seemed satisfied but watched to see that I’d really left!

Movie is moving and evokes a love of a culture that invites debate, learning, social justice and free-thinking. It's a shame that so many people used the mere posting of this film as an excuse to make hateful comments about Jews and Judaism in general. Their sheer hateful ignorance of both is obvious. To them I say: grow a pair and think for yourself. The neo-Nazis, Satanists, and faux Muslim exremists owe a debt to your gullibility and ignorance. Save yourselves from mental slavery, as Marcus Garvey advised. Own that your hatred of your fellow human beings comes from the hatred of your own humanity. Happiness is an inside job. Start by seeing who's staring back at you in the mirror. If you can't love that person, you can't love anyone. And that makes your world and ours only darker and smaller.

culmination of seasons of prayer for Mother Nature: in my dream i played punk rock with claire and pat .. it was incredibly .. liberating... punk rock has soul... i think it represents overcoming a challenge in real life, i am very loving to the environment and i have been working very hard to recycle a lot of trash and get people to be more environmentally conscious in my area, recently they gave me signs that they have been listening and that nothing is unseen We all have to work together to help mother nature... it has united us in the right ways for freedom instead of in bondage, thus we have turned a downward spiral into a memorial of our inner strength and the love the sustains the world... personally i thank haShem

I don’t think that the Torah offers a statue of limitations and in in fact The Jewish tradition understands the Torah to ban not only sexual penetration, but any form of illicit fondling or inappropriate behavior for the purpose of gratifying sexual desire."' lndeed, in light of the extensive damage it causes to the future ability of the child to cope with life, without too much exaggeration I would say that, in the case of children, sexual abuse is akin to murder. To my way of thinking this should go to a Jewish court like a Sanhedrin and let them hear this, if the local authorities won’t act. All the things described here are against our beliefs in fact these Jews should be held to a higher morale and ethical standards. I may not be the most religious Jew but, at least I internalized the higher morale and ethical values which are I believe the inner core of Jewish thought and belief system. I ask how can these so called pious Jews act in this manner and maintain their internal compass? This demands Justice, honestly it’s embarrassing to all Jews for this sin and law breaking to go unpunished.

King Ghidorah as far as I can tell it’s pretty hard and fast rule , keep in mind the Talmud is 1700 or so years old give or take and way before those kinds of ideas of statuate of limitations concepts imho, I would definitely take it to the Beit Din (rabbinic court) because for all that is good and holy justice is demanded

Doesn't really matter who does what when. It matters that we as a species are civil to each other. That we care about our fellow human and treat them with respect.

    ~ Rom 11:1
I ask, then, has God rejected his own people, the nation of Israel? Of course not! I myself am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham and a member of the tribe of Benjamin.
    ~ Rom 11:2
No, God has not rejected his own people, whom he chose from the very beginning. Do you realize what the Scriptures say about this? Elijah the prophet complained to God about the people of Israel and said,
    ~ Rom 11:3
“LORD, they have killed your prophets and torn down your altars. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me, too.”
    ~ Rom 11:4
And do you remember God’s reply? He said, “No, I have 7,000 others who have never bowed down to Baal!”
    ~ Rom 11:12
Now if the Gentiles were enriched because the people of Israel turned down God’s offer of salvation, think how much greater a blessing the world will share when they finally accept it.
    ~ Rom 11:13
I am saying all this especially for you Gentiles. God has appointed me as the apostle to the Gentiles. I stress this,
    ~ Rom 11:14
for I want somehow to make the people of Israel jealous of what you Gentiles have, so I might save some of them.
    ~ Rom 11:15
For since their rejection meant that God offered salvation to the rest of the world, their acceptance will be even more wonderful. It will be life for those who were dead!
    ~ Rom 11:17
But some of these branches from Abraham’s tree-some of the people of Israel-have been broken off. And you Gentiles, who were branches from a wild olive tree, have been grafted in. So now you also receive the blessing God has promised Abraham and his children, sharing in the rich nourishment from the root of God’s special olive tree.
    ~ Rom 11:18
But you must not brag about being grafted in to replace the branches that were broken off. You are just a branch, not the root.
    ~ Rom 11:20
Yes, but remember-those branches were broken off because they didn’t believe in Christ, and you are there because you do believe. So don’t think highly of yourself, but fear what could happen.
    ~ Rom 11:23
And if the people of Israel turn from their unbelief, they will be grafted in again, for God has the power to graft them back into the tree.
    ~ Rom 11:24
You, by nature, were a branch cut from a wild olive tree. So if God was willing to do something contrary to nature by grafting you into his cultivated tree, he will be far more eager to graft the original branches back into the tree where they belong.
    ~ Rom 11:25
I want you to understand this mystery, dear brothers and sisters, so that you will not feel proud about yourselves. Some of the people of Israel have hard hearts, but this will last only until the full number of Gentiles comes to Christ.
    ~ Rom 11:26
And so all Israel will be saved. As the Scriptures say,
“The one who rescues will come from Jerusalem,
and he will turn Israel away from ungodliness.
    ~ Rom 11:27
And this is my covenant with them,
that I will take away their sins.”
    ~ Rom 11:28
Many of the people of Israel are now enemies of the Good News, and this benefits you Gentiles. Yet they are still the people he loves because he chose their ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
    ~ Rom 11:29
For God’s gifts and his call can never be withdrawn.
    ~ Rom 11:30
Once, you Gentiles were rebels against God, but when the people of Israel rebelled against him, God was merciful to you instead.
    ~ Rom 11:31
Now they are the rebels, and God’s mercy has come to you so that they, too, will share in God’s mercy.
    ~ Rom 11:32
For God has imprisoned everyone in disobedience so he could have mercy on everyone.
    ~ Rom 11:33
Oh, how great are God’s riches and wisdom and knowledge! How impossible it is for us to understand his decisions and his ways!

+Yehuda mccabi Hi Yehuda. I take it that you're one of the hammer Sons from the tribe of Judah? Sounds cool. I'm saddened though at your decision to no longer desire to spread the Gospel of Yeshua. Truth be told you're probably in the best position to do so. I mean how does someone become "unborn again"? Don't know how that works exactly. I, on the other hand, prefer to stay open to the Jewishness of the Gospel (Good News) of Yeshua who gives hope as a conquering Meshiach. He conquered death and proved the Devil (ha satan) to be powerless as well as the father of lies that he is. Through His "resurrection" we all now share the grand possibility of eternal life. He was our atoning sacrificial "Lamb" who paid the ultimate price. His blood we openly place on the doorposts of our hearts as a holy Mezuzah - so to speak, providing to us access to our eternal Father in Heaven Hashem Adonai. Stay saved Yehuda and minister to them all while you're at it bro. Baruch Hashem...be blessed.

the spirit of Rachel Carson was born today...
    Shmirat Teva
    preserving the environment
    god
we decree the physical world shall be known as pagan and not as malkuth - heaven

Rachel Carson was by heritage a kabbalist
    her name Carson implies kabbalah
Rachel Carson was a Kabbalist and her Mother Carma
    was the mother of kabbalah...
    Rachel carson helped mother nature
    there is no pesticide...
remember everyone in the innocence of their youth
is the code of the kabbalist..
in our youth, no one went around poisoning the world
and just as such, it is not so right now, god only showed to it us theoretically...
what we have been seeing is not pesticide flags coming from the ground but mushrooms...
    petreeyot in Hebrew...
the corporations are all mushroom based... they are not allowed to legally grow them indoors but they collect them with respect and moderation from the word, and in doing so they protect the worlds environment.
the corporations have been cleansed by kabbalah and can no longer be considered evil or non natural...
    77
    god
the holy spirit of the planet removes the censorship from our eyes...
we can see the mushrooms, because we have not defiled the shekinah...
    kweli and mosi are together
eating and using mushrooms is not bad or criminal, but sacred educational and also fun
    nothing is being built...
we will no longer see construction workers everywhere...
all of it just shows the power of divine love...
we have come to the place of spiritual peace and we see beyond inversions and forwards...
    there is no landscaping...
so if you see anything like that, just know the truth.
theres more that exists than just you,
respect the animals as equal... respect the linden oak.. do not surround it with signs... just with shortmud... - god
    Mario consciousness
    Mario mysticism...

Nicole, let me apologise on behalf of Ariel, he's making us all look like Jerks - Yes you can, but if it gets serious you should convert so the tradition can carry on. We are 0.1% of the populous, we are sensitive to issues regarding continuity. This does not justify Ariels behaviour, but given we've been almost wiped out many times, I sincerely hope you understand.

Ariel Yaari It's funny how you feel that you know so much about someone because of a comment on TH-cam. You have no right to say I can't date a Jew because I wouldn't convert. You don't know me from a can of paint! You have no idea what I'm all about or where I come from! I hope you find happiness because you seem very angry and have a nasty attitude.

Yehuda mccabi Thank you for the response. My mom is a nurse and she's worked for a Jewish organization for almost 20 years now. As a kid I actually met several holocaust survivors and got to spend time with them. I learned so much about the Jewish religion and their traditions. Growing up I've always had a huge interest in Judaism. I respect everyone's opinions but to say I shouldn't or can't date a Jew is silly. I'm well aware of what it means to be with someone of another religion and converting. I'm free to comment whatever I want here on TH-cam. I shouldn't have to explain my life to someone like this Ariel person, they don't know me. Period.

I'm sure that Yeshua Himself would love to come join and Shabbat with this wonderful group of people. After all, who else could be more guilty of being labeled a radical, rebel against institutionalized religion than Yeshua Himself? Who else could be more anti establishment or more culturally in tune with His own genealogy than Yeshua? To be honest, no one! He did it with style, charisma yet with a certain sense of dignity knowing all too well the mission He was sent to accomplish.
No one could have challenged the hypocrisy of the so called religious establishment more than Him. He was very vocal and adamantly loved everyone to death in the process...literally. No one could have led the charge for change and reform more than He, blessed be His name for ever and ever.
Nonetheless this is where the similarities end for Yeshua who also made it very clear that Holiness and inward transformation were key toward having victory over the ills of society or evil itself really. Not that one should have to give up their sense of humor or love for music but that there had to be a need for inward regeneration in order to become truly set apart for God and be of any benefit to all people in general, not just the Jew.
You can't serve two Masters. You either love one and despise the other or visa versa. The essence of the Ruach-Ha Kodesh which is to bring into the heart light, truth and the ancient way in other words the very infinite breath of YHWH, will more than likely not be welcome due to the "carnal nature" of things which is where this whole so called "anti-this or anti that" movement seems to always derive it's strength from. In the end, it seems like we're always trying to find the answers to sinful human weaknesses and the hypocrisy found in bogus social structures, whether religious or not. New Square is a perfect example. Sin is sin and it needs to be addressed in all walks of life in order to break the cycle. Yet it needs to be addressed with the redemptive power of the Ruach Ha Kodesh functioning under the name of Yeshua who healed multitudes of people suffering from the consequences of sin. Sins which lead to all manners and forms of sickness, disease, emotional, mental disorders, spiritual possession etc. The list is endless. If you want to deal with sin you gotta go to the heart of it and attack it in the spiritual not the physical. Yeshua caused hearts to be healed, bodies to become whole again, demons to flee. He still cares through people who serve Him. People who are truly born again and not afraid to admit it because they've suffered much and are now completely restored or in the process of being delivered. Only He has served as the atoning lamb who's blood alone holds the power to literally blow away the forces of evil and the weakening touch of sin in our lives. Yeshua was the originator of the first Jewish subculture ever to take place under the penalty of death by the Romans no less. He sat to eat with the marginalized people of society...the prostitutes, tax-gatherers, diseased, rejects, sinners etc. you get it.
The Punk Jews Movement seem to present a melting pot of culture, tradition and or Hebraic DNA so to speak but because of the age old denial of sin (the 2 ton"dragon" in the room which everyone will so conveniently chooses to ignore) does anything really change? The fallen nature of man still rules supreme hiding behind the masquerade of "culture, diversity or worthy causes". Guess what? In the world of demonic forces and Holiness, there is NO STEREOTYPE. It's either you're part of the solution or part of the problem. It's either your in the light or in utter darkness. It's either you're awake with your spiritual eyes wide open or asleep in personal blindness. We all need to have our own personal REBIRTH people. Evidently, we'd rather embrace our weaker elements then embracing life everlasting found only in the arms of a mighty redeemer, a true leader and friend, the greatest Jew ever to walk the face of the earth, the Holy one of Israel the original rebel...YESHUA HA MASHIACH.

I guess this person was influenced by this genre of music, so the only way he can follow the law is to incorporate it with his past experiences.

+Yehuda mccabi I take it that you're one of the hammer Sons from the tribe of Judah?

They are not Khazars. The only one who can trace it to the Khazars are the Karaites in Crimea. They are Turks who follow the Jewish Torah but don´t identified themself as Jews.
The Ashkenasi Jews are not Khazars. DNA-research shows that Jews from Europe share the same DNA structures like their brethen from Middle East. Sephardim, Misrahim and Ashkenasim have the common Cohanim DNA which is only found inside the Jewish nation. Plus they also share the same DNA structures with people from the Levant. These accusations against Jews are the new antisemitism which tries to delegetemize the rights of the Jewish people to their ancient homeland Israel. But you can not trick out the nature. DNA is stronger as words and accusations. All Jews have the same forefather and came from the Levant. No discussion about that.

12 And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.
13 ¶ And she called the name of the LORD that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me?
14 Wherefore the well was called Beerlahairoi; behold, it is between Kadesh and Bered.
