I also took a double decker bus when I travelled from Kyoto to Tokyo, as well as from Osaka to Tokyo. Both times it was very pleasant, economical, and comfortable, and much less expensive than taking the shinkansen. (I have also taken the shinkansen, but must admit that I was a bit surprised by how expensive the tickets are.) The buses were spotless and so quiet. When I took the overnight bus, they even provided me with slippers, as well as a small pillow and a blanket. I would not mind taking the bus again, especially during the day to see the countryside.
Because of the lockdown, I have not travelled back to Japan. Thank you for this. I thoroughly had fun reminiscing about my own trips some years back. I like how you do not present yourself but rather posts short remarks. Again, lots of thanks. Keep up the adventure
"I'm the only passenger right now!" always makes me smile. I've watched about five videos in a row where you're the only passenger right now! You get the best luck! XD

I went from 'hey ferry video, cool' to watching everything, even a video about an 8-hour bus ride. This one in specific made me super eager to travel more within my own country -- I realized I haven't really seen most of it, and taking trains/buses/ferries is completely doable. Awesome channel 💪

Thanks for sharing a wholesome way of sightseeing. Love the cute and cosy atmosphere of these shops and centres. Can't wait to get into it myself when I get the chance to visit Japan again.
As someone who lives in a place with no public transportation; no taxis, no trains, no buses, no ferries… I find your adventures very satisfying and exciting. I’ll never get to travel this world, but through your videos I feel like I am!
Just a Japanese thing and it's not surprising for me. I read about how they also operate a whole train station(despite just a small rural one, but still) just for a little girl to finish her school education before closing the station down.
a Train in Japan left the station 20 seconds early, it issued a written apology to the people it inconvenienced by that inexcusable breach of etiquette. as against the US where your lucky if it leaves on the same day.
As an Canadian who has never been to an Asian country before, this looks stunning! YES! Indeed I would try this way to get around Japan. Thank you for the amazing video! What a beautiful country.
Your videos are giving me life. 🥺 I miss Japan terribly 😭 and I haven’t traveled for almost two years. Your videos are giving me something to look forward to when traveling to Japan is allowed again.
I like reading. So, either by bus, train or ferry, I'd spend my time reading, napping, and eating. I really don't care about scenic views or sightseeing. I love watching your vids because I imagine myself traveling in comfort where I can just be by myself and read! The more comfy the accommodations, the better!
I never rode a bus between Tokyo and Kyoto but seeing locations in Tokyo and Kyoto, bring back so many memories... I'm waiting for the moment it'll be possible to travel to Japan again. Go away Covid, we had enough of you.
That seemed like so much fun, I'd definitely want to try taking the bus when we are free to travel again, it'd be even more fun on a rainy day, I love watching the rain.
I am impressed by how clean all of the public transportation and accommodations are in Japan. I really enjoy your channel as I will probably never make it to Japan. Thanks for sharing.
Its fun riding on a double decker bus you can see everything specially the seat you booked is perfect for sight seing i enjoyed our virtual travel . New friend here see you around
Thanks for taking us along on your trip and showing us the double decker bus. I really like traveling via buses, I used to travel via bus from NY to Boston and back but these double decker buses in Japan look 100 times better! And the rest stops are abundant and have plenty of options to eat and drink. I would love to try it out some day :D
I had no idea the freeways in Japan were all toll roads, and that expensive. I think I would definitely go bus though. I love driving and road trips, and I love someone else doing the driving more!
I love how peaceful your videos are. They present a simple, not over excited, trustworthy view of the things you experienced. Watching them feels like me actually being there, wondering on the ferries and else. Just ran into you this week but probably watched all your videos and really enjoyed them. Thanks for making them and please keep going… (sleeping, and having more big rice and croissants. lol)
Amazing how even on the bus, they have the announcements in Japanese, English, and Mandarin! Also, that scene at 13:55 with Kyoto Tower reflection on the building is awesome. Would love to take that as a photograph.
Love the fact there isn’t speaking !!! THANK YOU ! it’s almost like we are there . Pretty awesome 👏🏼 I lived in Japan for six years. Military my family was based in Camp Zama . Love it we had such a amazing time living there it’s so nice to see once again! Brings back a TONS of memories!!!
I love travelling by coach! You see so much more than you do on a train or ferry. It was interesting to drive through Tokyo, see the buildings, people and traffic. Your seat was the best view! Show us more trips please ! Thank-you!
I have usually travelled by Shinkansen and I really enjoy it. However, when we did a trip to Mt Fuji a couple of years ago we went part of the way (from Hakone to Togendai on Lake Ashinoko) by cable car over a Sulfur mine! On the return trip we got a single decker Highway bus from Fujisan station to Narita Airport. That bus trip back was very convenient for us as it avoided a lot of connections. It was also very interesting because we could see lots of things we don’t see from the Shinkansen. I would take the bus to Kyoto depending on how much time I had. If I had plenty of time, I would count it as a sightseeing day. .
I just discovered the channel a couple of days ago and have watched ten or twelve of them. Mostly the ferry trips. Yes, I would prefer you take the train or a boat instead of the bus! I like boats and trains. Slow ones, so the trip is longer! If I'm in a hurry I'll take an airplane. The channel is so relaxing with no voice-over, just the captions. I shall watch them all.
I never thought that an 8-hour ride would be anything close to "exciting" so I clicked on the video just because of that word. Ok, after watching I admit it was fun hehe. Tourists have limited time and can't "waste" 1/3 of the day, but if I lived in Japan I would definitely use it ;)
i've done shinkansen from Kobe to Hiroshima and returned on the bus; and i sooo very much enjoy the bus ride especially the rest areas with restaurants and nice scenery. I will take the Bus over the Shinkansen anytime. Thank you again for taking us along on another great trip!
And now I have added a double decker bus ride to my must do list when we visit Japan. The views look amazing from the front row seat & would be a great way to see the country. Thank you for such great videos!
Not a bad choice if you want the experience & some sightseeing, as the bullet train will only take 2.5 hours for more than 3 times the bus fare and normal train will take around the same time as the bus and (approx 8 hours) for the same journey but it costs more than double of the bus fare.
In the last five years before COVID, I went snowboarding in Japan every year. I took the long-haul bus whenever I could. The train system in Japan is well developed but not for people with luggage, definitely not with snowboards and baggage. I also tried the delivery service to the hotel. It was not cheap and took two days. I love buses in Japan more than trains. That said, I still love to visit Japan very much and can't wait to go back.
I really appreciated the way you showed respect to your fellow travellers by not showing their faces. It was a great scenic route, and through your eyes (and camera), we got to see Mount Fuji !!
same. I also know kyoto station from that anime. one of my very first anime i watched. I went to to Kyoto station when i visited Japan unfortunately i didnt enter or look the central area because im rushing to catch the Shinkansen
this is #1 in my bucket list after pandemic..to go back in Japan and stay a bit longer than i used to.miss everything about this country.will surely ride in the double decker bus .thank you for sharing your wonderful experience
I think for seeing more things then the bus is probably a the way to go. Love this channel and have binge watched at least 10 video's over the last 2 days.
When I went to Japan, I really enjoyed the sleeper bus ride. You'll appreciate the trip but it will cost you some time. Nice video, hope you have videos from Nagoya to Osaka/Kyoto/Nara. 😊
One thing I love about Japan is the rest stops. So much yummy foods and snacks and interesting souvenirs. Hubby & I did a few drives in Japan where we rented a car and just went from one place to another and we would always look forward to stopping and eating :P I'm not sure about an 8hr bus ride but good to know that there is a toilet on the bus. I couldn't do it if there wasn't one despite the stops as my bladder/bowels are very unpredictable! 😅
A lot to say! First, congratulations, thank you very much for sharing your trip, the video and the edition were very nice. I thank you because thanks to you I was able to know how to find this bus (I am planning a trip to Japan in the medium term), I did not know that it only worked during the day so it seemed strange to me not to find that seating configuration at night hahaha. Now I know it is a daytime bus only. That Scania bus is very beautiful. I was surprised to be able to see Mount Fuji, also Lake Hamana. I would love to be able to ride the bus (and also the shinkansen, of course hahaha). A huge hug from Chile, here I have many trips recorded on double-decker buses and other transports. Greetings and have a nice week!
OMG such lovely travel video I've stumbled across! Using other halves tablet. Love these videos helps with COVID and gets me outside even if it's through your beautifully done videos. Thank you for sharing! JoAnn Sigby
I was in Tokyo and didn't think about a bus to Kyoto, next time I surely will thanks to you and your video, I took my Thai wife she would have enjoyed the trip so much, let's hope covid gets sorted very soon, will watch your videos with interest, thanks.
You made it very interesting, traveller/narrator. Sweet simple commentary. I travelled long_distance on double decker in England, m a n y years ago. Thank you, from Jamaica, West Indies🤗
@@d0lph1n63 Well the USA pays for them too. Car registration, licensing, as well as state and federal taxes go to that. Local governments just suck at putting money towards maintaining them. Heck, in California you can now pay to use what used to be called the carpool lane. It still takes years for maintenance to get to them. There are stretches of highways and interstate roads with only reflectors on them, the paint that differentiates the lanes have worn off. Good luck figuring out if your in a lane or on the shoulder about to head off a cliff. That was a problem over a decade ago that still hasn't been fixed.
@@bl8danjil but the interstates are supposed to be Federally owned while non-interstate routes are supposed to be the responsibility of the state and local governments but thanks in large part to a lack of large and constant amounts of infrastructure funding from the top you end up with state and local governments being forced to foot bills for miles of blacktop that they technically don’t even own or are actually responsible for. In fact all interstate highways are actually federally owned but are tolled for the simple reason that the Feds left it to the states to fund repairs, expansions, and replacements.
@@d0lph1n63 I meant to say all levels of government suck when it comes to road maintenance. Local and state just ends up sucking the most. Most of the interstate roads are great except that one I mentioned. Most of the local roads just plain suck. Sometimes I wonder if things were done for aesthetic reasons or if it actually makes pedestrian and cars safer.
When I was in Japan, taking the shinkansen from Tokyo to Hiroshima was quite the experience and it felt like a very long time on the train, but it was great and I don't know if I would get a bus from Tokyo to Kyoto. Very surprised how cheap it is!
If you thought that was a long ride my first (long) train ride in Japan (other than the skyline from the airport) was the overnight limited express Hokutosei. Luckily I did spend the night in Uneno so I had a some rest after a 14 hour flight and did some sightseeing in Tokyo before the 17 or so hour train ride to Sapporo. Great experience and so grateful that I got to ride it before they discontinued service. I will always remember waking up to the feeling of the train clearing the snow and seeing it out the window.
Wow 🤩 this video is exactly what I love ❤️.. able to enjoy Japan 🇯🇵 building, road, hills, trees, tunnels etc. scenery n everything while u are on your journey! 😊 Arigato gozaimasu 👏
Yes, public transportation is one of the most efficient ways to cram people into a closed area, especially during a pandemic and/or epidemic, to spread individual diseases.
i think highway fees would work only if you have an excellent public transport system. Japan has one of the best public transport systems in the world. Very jealous of the Japanese people in that regard
Yes,travelling long distance by sitting on a uper deck front seat of Double Decker ,, is indeed a pleasure ,as from here, best views are available। Nice.
5:51 Is that what you call traffic? Welcome to Jakarta, Indonesia, where highway is actually mass parking lot.. 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks for the video anyway.. I miss travelling a lot, and haven't been nowhere outside my hometown since the pandemic.. 😔
Oh. I thought they were referring to the usual octopus balls and various balls of seafood I see in Japanese restaurants where they are actual ball shaped meats and not bowls.
@@canitbechristine I think he did mention octopus balls (たこ焼き) before that, which are also common at SA/PA. But then after that it’s the rice bowl (丼) restaurants. My guess is just a misspelling since ball and bowl are pronounced the same in borrowed English (ボール).
I watched one of your videos in my recommended, and I'm now spending a lazy Sunday watching all of them, thankyou so much 💓there amazingly calming and interesting 😊

Thanks for your words.
OMG such lovely travel video I've stumbled across! Using other halves tablet. Love these videos helps with COVID and gets me outside even if it's through your beautifully done videos. Thank you for sharing! JoAnn Sigby
Thank you for sharing your travels! I enjoy them while I’m stuck at home haha
I'm glad you enjoyed them! Thank you for watching.
I was in Tokyo and didn't think about a bus to Kyoto, next time I surely will thanks to you and your video, I took my Thai wife she would have enjoyed the trip so much, let's hope covid gets sorted very soon, will watch your videos with interest, thanks.
This reminds me of Singapore to Malaysia Bus ride I had 🙂 very similar.
Except the rest stops are much smaller
Yup, took 1 trip to Singapore and back on double decker bus, front seat with view
You made it very interesting, traveller/narrator. Sweet simple commentary. I travelled long_distance on double decker in England, m a n y years ago. Thank you, from Jamaica, West Indies🤗
The bus looks very comfortable. If Greyhounds were like this in the US, I would travel by bus WAY more often!!
For someone who can't go to Japan now, this is great, thanks
$100 dollars for the highway?! No wonder Japanese people prefer trains to cars!!!😱
At least there's no pot holes
@@20195439 considering how much one has to pay to use them in the first place, they quite literally pay for themselves.
The view from the Skyway is Stunning beatyfull
When I was in Japan, taking the shinkansen from Tokyo to Hiroshima was quite the experience and it felt like a very long time on the train, but it was great and I don't know if I would get a bus from Tokyo to Kyoto. Very surprised how cheap it is!
Only that cheap for day trips, for a single-chair like that at night would be 3 times the price. Double for a 3-seat row
I will always remember waking up to the feeling of the train clearing the snow and seeing it out the window.
the skyway at the end was a nice touch.. i will go up next time in kyoto
As someone who had severe motion sickness, i volunteer as tribute
You certainly wouldn't want a seat topside.
Wow 🤩 this video is exactly what I love ❤️.. able to enjoy Japan 🇯🇵 building, road, hills, trees, tunnels etc. scenery n everything while u are on your journey! 😊 Arigato gozaimasu 👏
those highway fees must be an excellent way to discourage single-driver cars and encourage public transit instead!
@@beanzor Anything that is for public use should be free that's why we pay taxes.
Coming to the U.S. soon.
See Asset Recycling added to the Infrastructure bill by Manchin and the Republicans.
They are narrow as well, I'm assuming it's to avoid the braess paradox.
Yes,travelling long distance by sitting on a uper deck front seat of Double Decker ,, is indeed a pleasure ,as from here, best views are available। Nice.
I wonder if you can do a trip into the village and share the experience with various onsen (especially the en-suite ones)?
i love it that there's a starbucks at every service area~~~ and the views!!
i didn't know about the skyway! wtf!
That bus was very nice. And good views too. Okay for a day trip.

Is that what you call traffic? Welcome to Jakarta, Indonesia, where highway is actually mass parking lot.. 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for the video anyway.. I miss travelling a lot, and haven't been nowhere outside my hometown since the pandemic.. 😔
I'm traveling vicariously through you lol one day I will actually go to Japan
What do you do when you arive to your destination? Just go back or stay a few days?
Stay im pretty sure.
A lot of beautiful scenery in this bus ride, you had the best seat.
That first SA stop was basically Japanese Buc-ee’s.
Very enjoyable,thank you,the glimpse of Fuji-san was a treat.
Great videos as always!
FYI for future videos: 丼 in English is “bowl” not “ball” 👍
Why am I seeing Tonikaku Kawaii vibes when I watched this especially the bus and the foodcourt part
No lime ramen tho HAHAHAHAHA
I have visited Japan several times. I have used many forms of travel. It all depends on time available. Bus travel is best for seeing and experiencing the country. Love the rest stops. Nothing compares in other countries.
My dream's to explore japan for months with every transportation they have
Yeah. Me too
Interesting journey... the view ... 3 stops as well...
I can stay whole day at their break station 😂
Agreed
and food there is better than most US restaurants
Very good and nice and beautiful destination journey trip by bus. I am interested when I visited to Japan again. Me hope you're my guide when i coming to Japan. Thanks for sharing. I am from Brunei Darussalam 🇧🇳.
Me living in a country where we should pay highways too : wait, you all highways are free?
What? What does this even mean?
@@bobfranklin2572 In my place, you should pay to go on highways which surprises me that in other countries, the citizens don't need to pay.
this looks like a fun bus trip, i enjoyed what you showed of it. im unfortunately prone to anxiety attacks and claustrophobia so i dont think i would be able to take a trip like this myself. thank you for your videos
If you don't appreciate expensive highways with a lot of traffic, I recommend you NEVER come to Italy 😂
@@babytoys7559 breaking news, The pope lives in the Vatican City, not in Italy.
@@babytoys7559 whatever dude
So super comfortable
you are everywhere
Bus trip looks fun, especially with several rest stops. Thanks
It was a pleasant journey. I loved it. If ever I go to Japan again, I will take this trip and return to Tokyo by shinkansen. From Singapore with many thanks.
it was a very good journey.....i simply love this country, the people there and surrounding too...thanks for this info..
