Japanese don't take long vacations due to work, so they wouldn't take a week-long international cruise. The ferry is mainly for trucks and freight, with the cruise part added on. I'm Japanese, and I can tell drinking milk (or variants like coffee milk, fruit milk etc.) after taking public bath is so popular in Japan that people need a sign if vending machine is not around. Otherwise some of them will ask "Excuse me, but do you have vending machines around here?"

      @stromache 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I was surprised the first time I went to an onsen that there was a milk vending machine not only in the changing rooms but outside in the public areas too. I tried it, coz you have to, and it was indeed refreshing. I just had regular milk.

    • @susie2251
      @susie2251 3 ปีที่แล้ว +53

      @@rhino1876 it is considered nutritious and hydrating today, but the real backstory has more to do with capitalism and product marketing. Many Japanese homes didn’t have refrigerators well into the 20th century and makers of coffee milk (and later just milk) realized that bathhouses were a good place to set up vending machines with their product because they were places that were frequently visited by the public and in most neighborhoods (baths also being rare in Japanese homes too). So it became common to find the vending machines in bathhouses. Now, it’s just become something that Japanese people associate together...drinking milk after an onsen or public bath visit.

      It's well inside the northern hemisphere, so if this was shot close to the date of uploading it's not a very surprising thing. The sun rises at roughly the same time in Turkey, Spain and NYC (depending on where in the time zone you are)

    • @frankiegiltner6163
      @frankiegiltner6163 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It rises at that time too in the summer in the USA. It rises at that time everywhere in the world in the summer. Time zones are consistent. Daylight savings time is what messes it up so it rises at 5am due to the time adjustment.

    • @oilslick7010
      @oilslick7010 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@frankiegiltner6163 No it doesn't rise at the same time everywhere in the world. Compare sunrises on june 21 between Capetown, SA and Helsinki, Finland and you'll see quite the difference, while they're both in the same timezone. Sunrises are the same at all longitudes at the same latitude, but they differ across latitudes

    • @Ikajo
      @Ikajo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@frankiegiltner6163 Ever heard of the Midnight sun? Go north enough and the sun doesn't set in summer. Heck, most of Sweden won't have any darkness in the middle of summer. The opposite is true in winter. In December it can get dark really early and the sun barely rise. Further north, the sun doesn't rise for several weeks.
