Tuomas wrote this one after his father died. It is a tribute to all the loved ones we lost. It took several takes to record this one as Floor could not keep the tears in. She is a high sensitive person, so she feels all songs very deeply.
The images in the background are there to represent your memories of your parents or ancestors. Memories of the people who shaped the person that you became. They are the Perfume of the Timeless.
Great to see you again Chief! The background is nostalgia for the past. A beautiful tribute to the people we have all lost on our journey. Floor is sad, but still hopeful for a life well lived. Life itself is a bit up and down. Now you need to check out "An Ocean of Strange Islands". A little bit more up tempo.
9:57 "Aww..." Yup, she cried when the music started. First take was like 😭 Suggestion: watch Floor's Tea Time with Elizabeth (Charismatic Voice), around the 58min mark she will tell you all about it.
This song is written by Tuomas, as a ode to hes Father that passed away in 2021, Floor sings absolute beautiful on this, and Troy joining at end, perfect!! I lost my Father 6 years ago, and my mother 5 years ago, listening to this, will bring me memories of them, and a song of sadness, beauty and hope at same time, its a song i would consider a masterpiece, love it!! This was the first song Tuomas wrote for the new album Yesterwynde
Starting deep and low... This sounds like her solo album, I think Tuomas likes the variety of her singing. Floor said that she chokes up too easily with this song, the band rewinds, during the sessions, to let her recover. Mmm, the warmth of her voice. "Last night brought the heaviest of snows" That sad piano about to sink below the ice. “Melting the songs of old” Reminiscences, love of the souls that have gone before. Tuomas wrote this in memory of his father. The pocket watch to wind... The old style film projector, a "Magic Lantern". The old flickering movies, like memories. Floor soaring away. Celebration of their lives, rather than mourning. Did you get the Tuomas déjà vu references? “I am the snow on your palm” [Storytime] “I am the secret stream” [Sagan, Shudder Before The Beautiful, Endlessness] “Moss beneath your feet” [My Walden] “I am you who climbed off of my back” [Our Decades in the Sun] “Petrichor” (with a hint of green) [The smell of fresh rain on grass, Last Ride Of The Day, Song of Myself] “Timeless” (with a hint of a smile) [Perfume of the Timeless] “To the meadows I go” [Meadows of Heaven] Then Troy drifts in (where did _he_ come from?), with his soft voice, he made up the word, so his pronunciation, is our guide, _right at the end_ of the album. :) "What the...?"
How wonderful that you have started to react to their new album😍Thank you!! Floor is just so skilled and nice. Always touches your heart. And pretty piano music....plus Troy and Floor together🥹The "symphonicness" of this band always blows my mind, I also like that they have not tried to photoshop her to look younger but she can look her beautiful "real" self. And you were right, not able to see if she is sad or happy. Because it is a love song to those who are not here anymore
I really missed Nightwish AND the Nightwish army. You know better than anyone that I have this soft spot for NW and I'm so glad they have so much material (plus new stuff now) for me to discover. I think I gotta give you a lot of credit for helping me to remember how much I enjoy their music and for staying on this path of discovery 🫂🥰 I definitely agree with the whole natural look of Floor too, I really do like that she's just her beautiful, natural self. I wanted to mention this in the reaction but didn't want to come across as rude lol! P.S. it's almost October 🤭❤️
Last night brought the heaviest of snows. Could that be a metaphor for the death of his father? Sending me to the drowning moon. Drowning in tears?? I believe the first person verses (I am the secret stream) are spoken by his deceased father. I watched an interview in which Tuomas said his belief is that the atoms which formed our bodies while we were alive, become a part of the earth and a part of nature after our death.
The light of the lantern is hitting her face. The ones who have gone to the meadows are lightning our path, that's why I believe Floor seems sad and then hopeful in that frame. The song doesn't end with sad notes but with an optimistic one. Beautiful song and message and Floor as always delivering an incredible performance.
Pure Floor. I love this song. Btw, this song was Floor's pick for a single, it made her cry when she first heard it (I had the same reaction to this song, it's so touching). Tuomas lost his father a few years ago and he wrote this song out of that emotion. The message is to enjoy life, as it's beautiful and should be celebrated instead of grieved when it ends.
For me it is a bittersweet love song to human life. You are at the end of your live, watching back with loss and joy at the same time, while giving comfort for those left behind, because nobody leaves the world completely. Some saying, at the end of your life in the moment of death you will see your whole life with your inner eye passing, seeing your ancestors and your remaining loved ones … the song soft fading out and the snapping film roll is (for me) the peaceful end of life.
What versatility the various genres of metal have in their singers. Full power screamers and growlers, clean singers, classical / operatic style singers and everything in between. Free from the confines and strictures imposed by commercial radio they are free to really let rip. For a style of music so often dismissed as mindless noise to produce the sheer diversity in composition and musical talent, its incredible.
Don't doubt yourself Chief! Good to see you back. Best song on the album at the moment. Tuomas gets better with every album. Floor gets even better over the years. Although she feels her lower registers are her least powerful, they are the best part of her range, in my view. Hiraeth is good too but Tuomas says the standout is Tlhe Children of 'Ata.
Welcome back. The background images are actually relevant. Tuomas was inspired to write the album when he realised that looking at old black and white images that had been colourised made him feel a connection to the people in those images. He realised that there wasn't a word in the English language (nor presumably in the Finnish language) to describe the connection that we feel between us and our long departed ancestors, and so he and Troy between them coined the word Yesterwynde (with wynde pronounced as in rewind rather than the the weather) to reflect the path that we tread between our ancestors and our descendants. The background projections are therefore very old black and white film that has been colourised. We share a connection between us and those images.
The song is meant to capture the mourning for one's lost parents, the celebration of their lives, and the hope represented by the generations who carry their memories - and Floor's Emmy-worthy performance delivers every bit of it. This is going to be played at funerals for many decades to come. (Mine included.)
Flickering memories. Younger generations may not get the references... A pocket watch on a chain. The BBCs “The Repair Shop” is filmed at The Weald and Downland Living Museum, just outside Chichester, in the beautiful countryside of the South Downs National Park. The oldest item "The Repair Shop" has repaired was an incredibly rare Lantern Clock from the 1600s, believed to have been made by renowned clockmaker Thomas Loome. I wonder if Tuomas knew about it?
You were actually right, there’s sadness and also hope in this song. This song makes me smile and cry at the same time. Floor said it was quite hard to sing this one, as she got so emotional doing this. Very beautiful and intimate song. Pure perfection! One song, which is more like the usual (epic) Nightwish, is An Ocean of Strange Islands. There’s a very nice lyric video, if you’d like to react to that one.
You should surely react to A ocean of strange islands from new album yesterwynde as well, imo Lanternlight and that one is 2 best songs on the album(my taste), however A ocean of strange islands is the epic longer track, not anything like Lanternlight, and i would also say this album in general, got many diffrent song moods, its a grand journey, with many great songs, and as i listen to album many many times now, it only got better to me, i would almost dare call it a masterpiece, as i really enjoy listening to this album, from start to finnish!! Tryed to rank the album songs, i think its a pure masterpiece!! i listened to the album several times by now, and i have to say,to the critics of the mix, the mix is perfect!! instead of just getting Floor, its a wall of sound, that is very much a part of creating the grand journey and atmosphere on this album. Yesterwynde - 8,8/10 A ocean of strange islands - 10/10 The Antikythera mecanism - 9/10 The day off.. - 9/10 Perfume of the timeless - 9,5/10 Sway - 9/10 The children of Ata - 9,5/10 Something whispered follow me - 8,8/10 Spider silk - 8,8/10 Hiraeth - 9,5/10 The weave - 9,2/10 Lanternlight - 10/10 Album rank: 9,3/10 My description of this album could be this, a wall of sounds, that takes you on a journey, and songs that take you in directions you cant predict, in a good way, also very diffrent vibes in the diffrent songs, after listeng to the album several times it did grow on me, and i feel the album gives a diffrent vibe listening to it from start to finish, then when i just listened to the singles, love the album by now its a masterpiece, Tuomas is just a genius, Floor is breathtaking, Troy is a hoyful spice, and the rest of the band just amazing.!!

💔 Damn.. Well, if that didn't make me wanna give them a hug even more 🥺
I think this might be the most beautiful song ever, just achingly beautiful.
Yes, most people get tears of this. Super emotional and 200 percent beauty. It hits straight in the heart. What an art!!!!
This hits straight to your soul. 🥹
