      @@Orangejuiceee15 As the lens mount and the camera mount are different and this takes a EF lens you would need a something else to EF focal reducer and the "something else" lens would need a flange difference substantially larger than the EF mount to fit in the optics. That "something Else" lens would also need to have an image circle greater than the full size sensor to prevent a vignette.
      It's that flange distance from the back of the lens to the sensor/film that lets a focal reducer work - EF mount has a 44mm flange distance and m43 19.2mm so realistically you would have to look at lens mounts that have a minimum for 65+ mm to get a focal reducer that can work on the EF mount. I don't know of any. there may be something for the medium format SLRs.
      Theoretically - If there was a focal reducer available offering the same focal reduction or 0.71x for a medium format lens then an 80mm lens for that system would be reduced to a 57mm on the EF mount which would then become 40mm on the M43 mount. Taking into account the crop factor that means it would have the 35mm of 80mm.
      Of course for the same money as the 80mm medium format lens you could buy a GH6, a 42.5mm f1.7 Panasonic lens and still have money left to buy your partner a surprise present to open whilst you sneak these into the house and hide them in your camera gear.

I get this really cool super fisheye with my Sigma 10-20mm DC HSM when I pull it all the way back to 10mm, you actually do see the adapter but everything center just pops. • @qdaniele97
      @qdaniele97 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      For that you need a camera body with phase detection autofocus, as it allows the camera to calculate and get directly to the right focus point instead of having to hunt for it by moving the optics back and forth (as electronic adapers add latency and delays in the comunication between camera and lens).
      I believe the G9 Mk2 has phase detection autofocus, but the Mk1 and most other Panasonic cameras don't.
      Olympus/OM Systems is way ahead in that regard because even the now ancient E-M1 Mk1 supported phase detection.
      But if you plan in getting a used Olympus camera for that (like a OM-D E-M1 or an OM1) make sure the adapter supports it as is not a given thing (the Metabones for example have in general far better support on Panasonic bodies).

    0:29 I thought I recognized this as Toronto (missed BMO field on first pass) and when I saw the CN Tower, TO was confirmed. I've not been down there this year (Covid). I came to this video because I'm considering to buy the Viltrox adapter and a Tamron lens for my G9. I reckon most people buy the adapter to leverage existing lens ownership. In my case, I'm considering a 3rd party lens option where native Panasonic lenses fall short.
    8:15 Fortunately my G9 has not gone into freeze mode during shooting. I have a known problem where uploading photo files over WiFi can lock my G9. Burst mode has corrupted my memory card contents so I no longer use it. I hope the Viltrox adapter will not cause camera shutdown during shooting - your commentary is well taken

  • @stephenleedle6931

    Hi, I got it wrong. The USB port is for updating the adapter's firmware and not the lens' firmware.
    As the adapter translates information from the lens to the camera and back (eg. data for EXIF; focusing commands), it uses software. Updates seem to be used to increase compatibility and performance of an adapted lens.
    (Seems to have nothing to do with updating the lens' firmware.)

    some help please, if i purchased the above adapter and fitted a canon 75-300mm which would become 213mm at the longest end, do I still maintain the 2x crop so it would be 426mm ? thank you in advance

    • @StephenBell_video
      @StephenBell_video  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Indeed- anything on a M4/3 should be taken at a 2x rough crop for focal length

  • @amybella
    @amybella 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I dont get it though... If you use Olympus or Panasonic crop factor is x2. So a 50mm lens would be 100mm.
    If the speed booster is made to reduce the focal length to 0.71x wouldn't it be 100mm equivalent be around 70-71mm?
    50mm x 2.0 crop = 100mm equivalent
    50mm x 2.0 crop = 100mm equivalent reduced x0.71 = 100mm x 0.71 focal reducer = 71mm equivalent.
    1:51 60mm x2 = 120mm not 35mm. Something does not add up.

    • @StephenBell_video

      The aperture rating actually gains a bit of light and an extra short range stop with the speedbooster ✌️

    • @sharifsalem
      @sharifsalem ปีที่แล้ว

      The calculation for light gathering is the same as your calculation for focal length, you multiply x2 and then multiple x0.71 so a 24-70mm will behave as a 34-99mm on full frame.

      You might notice a bit of vignetting at that focal lengtg with a speedbooster- I would recommend the viltrox or Metabones in this case. Be wary of the lenses weight when connecting to your camera body

    • @sharifsalem
      @sharifsalem ปีที่แล้ว

      An adapted full frame 400mm lens without speed booster lens will double your effective focal length to an 800mm equivalent. With the speed booster lens in the adaptor you will have a 568mm equivalent focal length. There should be zero vignette on full frame (35mm) glass to M4/3 with or without a x0.71 corrective lens, the only glass that should see vignetting is some crop sensor glass such as is being used in this video.

    How's the wiggle on the lens, is a rig cage gonna fix it? Also how's the low f stop performance

    • @StephenBell_video
      @StephenBell_video  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Provolt there is a slight wiggle, but generally I hold both the lens and body which stabilized that, and allows for focus drawing. Careful with the cage you select, I find the viltrox extends into the cage on my camvate cage. As for the low f stop I have no issues with it, as long as it’s in manual shooting mode
