If you enjoy checking out Bangkok and other SE Asia spots, consider subscribing. I'll continue to make videos showing the streets in Bangkok and beyond. Thailand is amazing and a great place to visit, work or retire. I'll do my best to show you how to live affordably in SE Asia. Plus, enjoy some great side trips from Bangkok.
If you live outside Bangkok's central areas, you probably need a car. If you intend to have a car, then living outside BKK's downtown is the better choice. You will have no issues with parking. Personally having a car is more convenient to go to groceries, restaurants, shopping malls, etc. I also drive to Chonburi, Khao Yai very often so I love having a car. If I go downtown areas I then take a train or boat ride.
how did you find your current condo in phrom phong? i'm interested in finding an "older" unit with more space in the phrom phong area. did you just walk around and inquire at each building in the area you are interested in?
I tried to do that. That used to be easier. These days, many condos want you to have an agent show you the unit. There might be 20 units available in a building. You might need 20 agents to show you them all. They don't like splitting commission. Which is normally one months rent paid by the owner. I've did other videos on finding a condo. I have them in a playlist called mistakes I made. You can armchair shop on a website called Hipflat. But be aware, many of those prices are clickbait and a year old. But, it will give you an idea of inside pictures and sizes. My building is Condo One X in Phrom Phong. I pay 19k, which is low for a 52m. I think they go for 22K (or $600 US) So still a pretty good deal for a larger unit. You can find 15K in Phrom Phong, but they will be 31 or 35m. You can also find 31m in Phrom Phong for 60K. It's all about how shiny you want the lobby
You must really be in the boonies if you don’t have a 711 in sight😊. The commute wouldn’t matter to me the killer would be no bts service from 12 am to 6 am.
Yes, it's a long ways out there. If an affordable price is the reason, just get a smaller/older unit in On Nut or Victory Monument. It will be tricky to get a cab or Grab to want to drive out that far. Not unless you offer a 200b tip, etc.. So if you plan to be out past the train hours, keep that expense in mind.
@@EagerExpat again that is why I wouldn’t do it unless the metro was 24 hours. I think would rather have a place one or two stops away from the asoke nana area so you could walk it if you had to in case you couldn’t get a grab.
Those prices, like 6,900 a month to rent. It's 6,900 a month starting price repayment on the cheapest unit on your mortgage if you buy it, not a rental price.
I'm not sure I understand. If I showed a 6900 baht unit sign, I'm sure that's the small unit rental price. If you want to buy that unit, you need to check the building website for current prices. I'd strongly suggest to rent for a few months. That's a very quiet area. Even an affordable area will still cost real money. 6900 baht is less than $200 US. That's $12,000 to rent it for five years. Assuming the rent doesn't go up. In that area, maybe it will go up $50 (?) in the next few years. Still, you can see the break even point is pretty high depending on the price. I'd guess it's closer to $50,000 to buy. But, I have no idea. My rent is 19,000 or $520 US. I love my unit. It cost $190,000 to buy. That's a long break even. Even if my rent goes to $620 in the next few five years. Plus, I might want to move. I've also owned houses in California. Today, I'm much happier renting. That could change, but it's nice to keep it simple
@@EagerExpat I am sorry, but you are not correct. It's not the rental price. It's the lowest price for monthly instalments (mortgage) if you buy a unit. The sign says (I'm paraphrasing) "New Condos Ready to Live In. From 1.7 million Baht. Why rent it if you can buy it? (Letters obscured) Instalments from 6,900 a month". Same as the other condo you showed, 5,000 a month although it does not mention the word 'instalments' but that's a given, people understand that.
@@noah_shepherd Oh thanks. I wasn't sure what sign we were even talking about. And I'm sure I messed up. You'll see rental signs all over new buildings. Rent from 8000 baht, etc.. I made that video a few weeks ago. Still, I was correct guessing the price was about $50,000 US. If the mortgage is $200, the rent is probably $275. I didn't understand your first comment. I was still half asleep answering on the phone. Sorry about that
I think it's cool. My association days in California are over. You get a fine if you paint your house the wrong shade of tan. Or you let your sprinkler run 5 minutes too long. Bangkok does whatever the hell it wants to do. Pink building included
If you don’t mind doing a tour of your apt, that would be great. I would love to see what a 52 Sqm apt look like for under 600 bucks. how far is your apt from thong lor area?
I've did that a few times. I'm one train stop from Thonglor. It's a nice 15 minute walk from my place to Soi 55. I got real lucky in finding a high floor, corner unit for 19k. But, I think you can get one in my building today for under 24,000 baht. I'll try to find a link, but I have a playlist called mistakes I've made, etc.. It shows some condo info. th-cam.com/video/FZWnX9hYp0U/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/FTbxv96H0QI/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/nK-MjcWfc2I/w-d-xo.html
@@playthis5994 I showed them in the video. Pool, small gym, sauna. Maybe some buildings have a roof top lounge. But, it's all about the same. Mega condos will have a huge gym.. They often will also will have a 28m unit for 26K. This building was really nice in 2005. It probably was very expensive. 20 years later, it's still very nice. But many Thai folks with money want brand new. That being said, search for the cars in my building video. BMW's everywhere, even a Bentley. So it's not an old Thai building full of kids and trash in the hallways. It's an older luxury building. That works out fine for me

"ALL THE WAY FROM SAN DIEGOOO! REPRESENTING THE US NAVY ITS JOE!" 😂 that would be fun to watch
Maybe representing the US Postal. I only did four years in the Navy. 33 years mailman

Ya, the main issue in the Central BKK area is traffic. But I do miss driving
