Plenty of errors in this video. Less than half the Mayflower passengers were Separatists. The beliefs of the rest are unknown. The Separatists did indeed go to the New World to seek religious freedom. The Pilgrims did indeed steal corn they found in an abandoned house, but they intended to pay for it later. (They needed it for seed that would grow in the region.) While it could be said that the Pilgrims "invaded" Patuxet land, the Patuxet were all dead or gone (yes, because of earlier European invasion) and no one wanted the land because it was believed to be cursed. There were 52 surviving Pilgrims, not 50. The Wampanoag consortium did not exist in 1621. The Pokanoket weren't just political allies. They had a very friendly relationship with the settlers in Plymouth, who were distinct in beliefs and politics from the Puritans who came later and were much less respectful of the natives. Every Pilgrim description of the Pokanoket was of praise for everything from their appearance to their noble and honest behavior. There is no evidence that that first feast was an event of stress and distrust. The Pokanoket probably brought wives and children, not to mention five deer and other foods. The event lasted three days. Our Thanksgiving celebration should be a celebration of one of few, if not the only case of settlers respecting and getting along with and sharing food with the local people. For a better nd more accurate account of the "first Thanksgiving," read "Thanksgiving: The Pilgrims' First Year in America."

This TH-camr is conflating Plymouth Colony history with Mass Bay Colony history that happened much later, and even then there is a whole story of events on both sides that were violent. People should just read Gov. Bradford's account of it instead of this TH-camr's incorrect and unhinged version.

I grew up giving thanks for the pilgrims coing here and inspiring other to come here. It encouraged others to come here, one being a man froam Germany in 1765. He, along with so many others is what lead to me an my sibling being born. People from many coutries and native Americans are in my family. Sorry, I won't stop celebrating that. I also celebrate to give thanks for my family, health and good friends.

Because this video is a load of BS. The fashion of the time was that style. All you have to do is look at Rembrandt paintings of the time. But, the biggest issue is that little of this was true. There was a feast in 1621 and there were Native Americans of the Pokanoket Tribe present with the Pilgrims. All you have to do is read Gov. Bradford's account of the feast. Besides, this TH-camr is conflating events that happened with the Puritans of Mass Bay Colony with the separate Pilgrims of Plymouth Colony, and didn't even do a decent job of it. But, that is what you get when you are putting out propaganda. You tend to leave out many of the "troubling" details in your new version.

This story is misleading and is not at all the meaning or story of thanksgiving. Missing tons of information. The pilgrims were British but came from Holland as they were trying to escape the rule of church and state in Brittan. Squanto was a real man that spoke English because he was taken as an interpreter by the Spanish and managed to get back to America, I forget the details but he wasn't a slave at that point. The pilgrims believed god would help them and would have never excepted help from native American's, but Squanto who spoke English was believed to be sent by god. He did show the pilgrims how to plant and fish, but this is not why the pilgrims were successful. They had a socialist system under the mayflower compact where everybody would share their labors, food and the like. William Bradford saw this system was not forcing people to work to their full potential and gave them individual plots of land so they would have to be self sufficient. As a result they were prosperous and had plenty of food and gave thanks to god for their prosperity.

Now we' re all trying to figure out what stories we've been told are correct or not. Don't watch this video and think you've now been educated. Do some proper research. This telling is revisionist history meant to make modern Americans feel guilty for things that either never happened or that happened but only tell a one sided story. The next time you have 100 armed soldiers show up to your party of supposed "terrible people", you know your family and friends, you let me know how it goes. Lol. People will believe anything...
Also, they are conflating the history of the Puritans in the Mass Bay Colony with the Pilgrims in the Plymouth Colony. They were separate colonies. Plymouth had 10 years of history with getting along with Native Americans before the Mass Bay Colony was established. This TH-camr can't even get that correct.

Why is it so hard to believe a holiday is fictitious and built on a lie? As Churchill alluded to, the victors write history. Think of all the awful things this country has done, whether slavery or intentional exposing members of the military to everything from radiation to syphilis to known toxic materials, whether for research or just plain cheap, callous laziness. I think of it this way...we all have those family members that we know have done dirty deeds, and yet, do you still not recognize them as family, maybe even love them? You can love the sinner and hate the sin, learn the sin so as not to repeat it. Stop celebrating Thanksgiving's fairy tales and use the holiday to be thankful for that which you have. Just a thought.

@@Dennis-nc3vw From a purely white perspective. How about you listen to the other half, huh? The bottom line is that TG is a holiday that is supposed to be about red and white unity, and we all know what whites do with TREATIES.
Try again, settler. Regardless of what you think, white folks celebrating Thanksgiving is like Germans celebrating the "Good Years of the Nazi Regime". You know, when it was all about working class solidarity.
Yeah, some things look good at first glance, perhaps on paper, perhaps if one is too trusting of a devil, but ultimately, nothing good resulted from Contact between whites and reds. Or between whites and ANY non-white People. Hell, whites couldn't stop even stop committing genocide on other whites.
Y'all have a seeeeerious problem, and y'all need to solve it over in Europe, and leave these lands to the original caretakers. Let's just do that, alright?
Of course you don't want to do that. Your ancestors built your security on the bones of my ancestors, and you like that security. And THAT is why we are at odds, and THAT is why Thanksgiving is a SHAM. It is 100% a WHITE PERSON'S holiday that no sane Native American participates in. P-E-R-I-O-D.
And you really need to stop debating this. NOW. Because you have NO RIGHT to say anything about us WITHOUT US. Whenever you talk about Thanksgiving, YOUR OPINION DOES NOT MATTER MORE THAN A NATIVE AMERICAN'S. For fuck's sake, figure that out.
You can't claim the holiday is about unity when y'all continue to keep Native Americans in concentration camps, either at the border or on the rez. You can't claim the holiday is about giving thanks, when none of you show any concern for the people you've stolen land from.

@@Dennis-nc3vw Here's something to think about: Reconciliation is *impossible* until REPARATIONS are made. It's simple math. Y'all can't shout down into the reservations or the ghettos from fancy houses built on the bones of MY ANCESTORS, "can't we all just get along?"
My People are starving because y'all white folks don't want to give up what you've STOLEN. You accepted STOLEN PROPERTY, KNOWING THEY WERE STOLEN. Worse, you aren't even taking care of the Land your ancestors stole: before white folks got here, resources were plentiful. Why did white folks come here? Because they depleted the resources at home.
White folks forgot long ago how to really live with Nature, and to not create waste. And now they're trying to deny the Earth Defenders a voice, complaining that we just "can't get over it and move on." That's like Nazis asking Jews to just accept their "natural inferiority."
No, I won't be patient with you. No, I won't be civil. Goddamn right I'm a savage. You keep stepping on my People and asking us to just accept your clumsiness is utter bullshit, and call us "racist" or "hateful" because we are tired of waiting for you white folks to GROW UP. I have no loyalty to you or your ideals or your ways or your values. I have little respect for them, in fact. Melt away, little snowflake. I'm not here to coddle you, and I'm not going to do the emotional labor of protecting YOUR feelings, COLONIZER.
NO RECONCILIATION BEFORE REPARATIONS. The former is impossible before the latter occurs, and it baffles me as to why white folks JUST DON'T FUCKING GET THAT. Just because you didn't steal the stolen property yourself does not mean you get away with holding on to that stolen property when you COULD just hand it right back over.
You can't call me "heartless" because I call punch your lights out when you roll up all casual in the car your parents stole from my parents. SIMPLE MATH. Figure it out, whitey. Until you all REALLY try to make amends, AND THAT STARTS WITH REPARATIONS, we have no reason to be nice to you. You're our jailors, you're squatters shitting all over our Land, you've got no respect for us or our ways and you'd rather see us all gone or wish we'd "just stop complaining".
You snowflakes are like rich boys who just don't understand why nobody finds their ignorance and casual elitism amusing in the slightest. Stop your crying and start HELPING US.
You all act like you have it so bad while literally we N8Vs walk in a post-apocalyptic nightmare EVERY FUCKING DAY because you zombies took over every inch of this land and have spread your noxious capitalism and christianity all over the world. You make comedies about how vain and materialistic y'all are, ignorant of the fact that that materialism exists at the expense of N8V America. And we're supposed to laugh along with y'all?
Would you ask a Jew to laugh along with a Nazi as the Nazi burns the Torah? Funny to some, maybe, but....
Do you really think that we don't care about the land your ancestors felt good enough to steal through war? Do you really think that we have all just forgotten what our Ancestors expected of us, to take care of these Lands? Y'all come from OVER THERE -- NOT HERE, so of course you all cry when the fucking medieval churches burn. But NOT ONE OF YOU CARE TO SHOW UP AT STANDING ROCK. Hell, not one of you even cares to fight for environmental justice. Not really.
      Too inconvenient.
Well, inconvenient for some, maybe, but a matter of life and death for others.
Don't try to minimize the crimes you and every other settler commits every day. You're flagrant with how little you care for the Land your ancestors stole from mine. And you expect me to be "united" with you....
      REALLY??

@@pippenstein Learn about human history you willfully blind piece of shit. You cannot be so insane as to think any place on Earth is in the hands of the same nation it was since the beginning of time. Just on the subject of "your people": Souix Lands were taken from the Pawnee, the Ponka, the Iowa, the Mandan, and the Crow, yet no one uses this to argue they had to right to defend themselves in the battle of Little Big Horn. The Iroquois stole land from the Algonquin. Blackfoot tribe took the land of the Kootenai, Flat-head Indians, and the Shoshone lands at the foot of the rockies. The Comanche drove the Osage, the Cheyenne, Arapaho out of their hunting grounds. Yet nobody, and I mean NOBODY supports reparations or redistribution from one tribe to another on this basis.
NO ONE believes the British owe the Irish, or that the Comanches owe the Apaches and Tonks and the countless other tribes on the planes anything, or that the Zulu owe anything to the rest of the people in South Africa for the 2 million people they killed during the Mfecane. It's only when white people conquer or brutalize people who are not white that the sins of our ancestors pass down to us. Nobody believes the Turks owe reparations to the Greeks for stealing Constantinople. And you filthy, greasy little weasels never explain this double standard.
I was born and raised here. This is my home just as much as yours. You can't lay claim to land on any other basis. You did not create this land, you simply found it. Do Americans have the right to the moon for the rest of eternity because we got there first? Or did the Russians already claim all of space thanks to Yuri being the first man in space?
Your people are starving because of the reservation system. Nobody supports the reservation system except for PC liberal saps and ethnocentric Natives like you. Case it point, do you think we should abolish the reservation system?

Native Americans are not all fair skin people. Some mixed with the Spanish, British and other colonists and lost their native language some did not. There were native indian people with dark brown skin, who people call black today, in America before the colonists settled. People in countries near the equator, people of the sun, such as the African countries, India, Hawaii, New Zealand, Fiji, Caribbean countries were mostly reddish brown, brown or dark brown skinned and were nomadic people. They were traveling in canoes around what we call the equator area.
As you enjoy Thanksgiving, please reflect on the fact that if it wasn't for the grace of GOD and graciousness of the Native Americans, the colonists would all be homeless. Reminding ourselves that we are guests here, respect others, and pray for the forgiveness of the sins of the colonists and ancestors. Pray that they will give homeless people free and descent homes.

@@pippenstein You are so full of shit. Most of this is a lie, or completely one sided. So, 100 armed soldiers showing up to your party is just a thing most societies do now, to make sure things go down in a respectable way? Shut up. I have studied the history of this period and there was a huge amount of back and forth with both groups respecting one another and then killing one another, etc. Anyone who believes that Native Americans involved were nothing but peaceful victims is a fool. Human beings are the same no matter their ethnicity. There are good people and bad people, but you being a racist wouldn't understand that.

This reminds me of the days when I used to pick up my kids from school and un-do the, "learning", they had been subjected to, within those walls.
The only sad thing, now, is that I can no longer do this. (They are learning less and being lied to more. They are in their thirties and I hope they, mostly, have the discernment I instilled into their brains, and use it, well.)
    Excellent factual video/audio.

I just learned the truth about thanksgiving watching this! Started to do more research now. I am definitely not “celebrating” thanksgiving again. Wow this is shocking!

    • @wordragon
      @wordragon ปีที่แล้ว +2

First of all, Thanksgiving isn't just about the history of this one event and one could argue that Washington and Lincoln's declarations wanting a national holiday to celebrate giving thanks to God was in itself what the holiday is about, and is based on a whole separate history which they don't teach in schools anymore. That would make America look good which is not what the NEA and Progressives want. Also, this is a fairly known revisionist-history retelling. Notice how it leaves out the actions or intent of the Native Americans? Although, I don't know if showing up to a party with 100 armed soldiers sounds very peaceful or unprovocative. I suggest you actually learn the history from an unbiased source. It is a story of both mutual respect and mutual feuding unlike the one sided story here. Humans are going to be human no matter what ethnicity.
Btw, the "Puritans" were in Mass Bay Colony, and they warred with the Narraganset and Wampanoag, not the Plymouth Colony. They have conflated the history of two colonies into one. You should read Gov. Bradford's account of Thanksgiving and his take on the Indians they knew in 1621 to understand what the Pilgrims thought and did outside of the actions of the Mass Bay Colony. Which even the Mass Bay Colony's actions were not some story of their people terrorizing the Natives. It was a back and forth affair.

@@kathybentley4190 Which is not to say that YOU AND I are enemies, or in bad relation.
The emphasis on relations is because the One (Creator) is *everything*, and all are related to each other the way my stomach is related to my heart or my mind or my blood or my thoughts, etc. That doesn't mean all these things "get along" -- but they do echo each other's existence.
An enemy gives a warrior a reason to be. So while they are at odds, there is respect, as well. I respect the aggressiveness of the colonizers the way I respect the warrior-ness of a grizzly. That doesn't mean that I am going to go hug a grizzly. ;-)

However, to answer you I must say I agree that there was warfare between Natives, however, they didn't seek to exterminate each other. The early settlers fought with the Natives, but the U.S. government tried and still tries to eradicate everything associated with Natives. This includes doing away with their traditional beliefs.
