Actually, Spongebob being asexual is LITERALLY a true representation. Sea sponges in real life can produce asexually

If I remember correctly sea sponges are the same as snails/slugs and are all both genders functionally.

It'd be completely normal for his kind (if he were a normal sponge) but seemingly, from his parent's appearance- they have some kind of superficial dimorphism. Like, there are more feminine or masculine hermaphrodites and they identify as such. But they all have the same genitalia/mating methods. So by that logic, he's a small male sided hermaphrodite.
So his kind would probably just refer to it as normal attraction. Not sure if all sponge species are like that tho.

I mean, he could be into other species romantically, besides- sponges are essentially just lungs but with bones. So what we're basing this on would be his distant and ancient ancestors, his kind would be actively predatory sponges with much better senses and abilities, on top of different descendant biology.
..Makes me wanna make some speculative evolutionary paths for that circumstance...

That he's obviously not an actual sponge and thus not limited by their biology so basing him off one when he's so fundamentally different from them wouldn't tell much. It's like making assumptions about human biology based on ancient spined worm-fish.

I agree! My dad likes long hair more than he likes short hair, and in his twenties, he apparently didn't want to leave the house without makeup on. There's no denying that he isn't gay, though, because he's married to my mom. I know that there are more people like that out there who deserve to be believed and heard, rather than just being told this absolutely ridiculous statement, or something along the lines of it:
"I'm upset that you don't trust me enough to tell me that you're gay, when you clearly are but you won't stop denying it."
It just really triggers me when people don't believe you when you know you're telling the truth. I know that some people are actually in denial, but that doesn't mean everyone is, and thinking that a man is in denial for being gay shouldn't be determined by how effeminate he is, it should be determined by if you hear him say certain things about boys but never girls, or if you see him getting flustered around guys. I doubt anyone actually read this far down. :)

Ngl. Bob’s burgers perfected LGBTQ+ representation when it comes to representation in these shows.
They normalized it. They didn’t over preached it or made a big deal about it. They just said: “okay, they exist. Anyways on with the story...” it just felt natural. When they revealed that one of the characters is a lesbian, they just had her say that she had a girlfriend who had a snake and that was that. No grand reaction from the characters and no dramatic score playing. Things were normal. That’s how it should be, just make the LGBTQ+ community normal, not something absolutely grand. If it is, it would most likely be “Bisexual character, let’s make them date a person of the same sex immediately.” While there’s no problem with that, being bisexual doesn’t mean that you have to date someone of the same gender to be considered bi. I went years before I actually dated a girl, but I’d know since I was a teen that I was bi, or just interested in whoever I was interested in.

My favorite case of lgbtq representation in media would have to be snufkin and moomin from Moomin Valley. They managed to not only display healthy character dynamics and a healthy family with both parents being loving and attentive and also encouraging but they also show characters showing types of love and affection that are different than just romantic love.
You see two characters that have obviously had more intimate experiences or others that have relationships that are on more of a platonic and strong bond level the show manages to not only subvert many tropes but also subvert a lot of ideas on what it means to love and beloved and watching you dive into that while also having a great style and commentating pattern is really really cool.
Keep up all the awesome work we're watching and we really love it.
PS. Have you ever seen bedfellows, and what do you think about their relationship or talking about them in the future.

That's funny that you bring that up, because there are several instances of Tove expressing her homosexuality throughout the books and show! For example, Too-Ticky was based off of her girlfriend, Tuulikki. Snufkin was also based on a past lover, but I can remember who it was. I think the most obvious example though of Tove's expression is Thingumy and Bob. They are an inseperable pair who are based around Tove herself and another past lover, which I think is adorable. I'm not sure how true this is, but there is speculation going about how the Groke is a symbol for homophobia among other types of hate and prejudice. I'm sure there are several more ties between the characters and Tove's personal life, but they haven't been revealed. It's sad though, the official website is masking Tove's relationship with Tuulikki and the meanings behind the characters... There are no pronouns used for Tuulikki, she is only referred to once, and she is simply labeled "partner" instead of "girlfriend". Same thing kinda with Thingumy and Bob, they are labeled as twins even though, according to Tove, that isn't even canon

That is partially highlighted in the Legend of Korra comics.
Korra and Asami who are now a couple, have an interaction with Mako, a straight male who they both dated.
He says he was just being awkward because he never had two of his exes date each other before but said he was happy for them and loves them together.
So in this case it was a straight man coming to the realization that both of his exes (now friends) are bi and he didn’t have a problem with it and it wasn’t a big deal.

For the people who complain that the korrasami was forced, the legend of korra Korra ended in 2014 before same-sex marriage was legal in every state in the US. If they developed their relationship more than they They did, no way would Nick have let those episodes air.
that's why I think the legend of korra, along with other series, made a positive change in people.
EDIT: I’ve seen comments from people who tell me that the series as adventure time did this better and in parts are right, but as explained in my comment, the legend of Korra came out at a time when representing this very explicitly was difficult so it was obvious that Nick would place limits on the creators of what to show and what not, Instead, in adventure time I began to represent these themes in a year where showing this was more standardized and not to mention the owl house that had no limits to show and that did not show and gave us one of the best LGBTQA+ couples of all animation in general.

I'm gay, but I couldn't care less about representation. I just ask to be given likeable and well-written characters.
And if they happen to be gay, then okay, that's fine. But don't make it define the character. That's stupid.
A person recently complimented me for being a gay composer. And while I appreciated that they liked my subpar music, I feel like they probably just liked it because I happen to be gay.
People need to be recognized for their personalities and skills. NOT for which person they want to sleep with.
I'm all for gay representation if it's not obnoxiously shoved in your face.

yeah the thing is that i thought i was sick and twisted for being gay, and what made me feel better and actually be able to come out with people i trusted was media that depicted characters in a good light that had similar struggles and feelings than me. representation isnt just lmao gay character fun ig is a way to show that your existence is recognized acknowledged and appreciated enough in order to be explayed in a work of art. you dont need a storyline or a purpose, you dont hear people complaining about how "they had no need to make that character straight". is about bending the normative, about the "gay or normal" or "straight by default unless stated otherwise" not being there. i think you got a really not nice enviroment, and some internalized homophobia you may need to work on. i used to think the same way as you did, surround yourself with people who understand and open your mind :)

Every child is not your child and you shouldn't try to change media in any way unless it is actually harming people. I mean actually ignoring a person human rights and bringing physical pain to or exploiting someone.
In conclusion you can raise your kid in any way as long as you're breaking law. Just don't ruin the lives of other people because you can't 'fathom how corrupting the next generation'. (That last part was obviously sarcastic)

One of my friends came out to the whole group as a lesbian but most of us already knew but just pretended like we didn’t. We mainly knew because we noticed that she would frequently talk about lgbtq anime/ shows and ask how we felt about the lgbtq couples. Luckily none of my friends had a negative reaction.
Honestly I feel like no one at my school is really homophobic or anything. I mean of course sometimes the some guys would make jokes about being gay but when they actually interacted with people in the lgbtq community they wouldn’t really bring attention to it or anything and if they thought they might of said something offensive they would immediately apologize.
I hear stories about some really toxic school environments and feel kind of lucky to go to a school where that isn’t the case. During this quarantine I’ve been left with a lot of time to think and am kind of feeling like I am bi. I have kissed a couple of girls before when I was younger (on the lips) but because I didn’t know what sexual orientation was I didn’t really think much of it.
