- Was the Superfriends the worst superhero cartoon or the best superhero cartoon. Check out their best ten episodes before you decide! As SUPERHERO-POW goes down the list from the iconic show running from 1973 to 1986, total of nine seasons and 140 half hours!
You missed one. The episode where Three Time Travelers come back to find the Earth destroyed and find out that the Legion of Doom sent a solar flare to destroy the Earth. They turn back time and cause a lunar eclipse to save the earth.👍
Yes, the History of Doom! In my defense, I did say the Challenge of the Superfriends was basically a top ten list by itself :)

That one was the worst episode of the challenge Superfriends because three guys only show clips the other 15 episodes and the only new stuff with the Superfriends and the Legion of Doom is at the end

'Challenge' was my favorite incarnation of The Superfriends'! Mainly because The Superfriends didn't have annoying kids to deal with or didn't have to stop the action to teach us how to make a tambourine out of two paper plates, glue and some dried beans! While I dug The Wonder Twins, I couldn't stand Marvin and Wendy!
Yup, Challenge maybe the best. I also really liked "The World Greatest" season lots of cool concepts in that one. And the improved writing and animation of the "Super Powers Team" season :)

Excellent list. The one omission IMHO is the Death of Superman. Has some amazing scenes showing Superman's funeral, with all the aliens showing up to pay their respects, the Super Friends fleeing from Darkseid, some Superman lore with the Fortress of Solitude, and finally Superman's triumphant return. Plus, a lot of the episode seems to be a tribute to Superman #149, the 1960's Death of Superman by Jerry Siegel and Curt Swan, like the way Superman 'dies' and his funeral.
"Swamp of the living dead" scared the crap out of me when I was five!
Being a Super friends fan and growing up with it-- I loved all the shows. Was it corny at times,Yes! But still growing up in the 70s and 80s was priceless. Love 80s cartoons. Super Friends are Cool! There LOL I said it !

Given Batman's tragic origin the Superfriends were wise in not altering his. The Fear was the second best episode.

Also there's be no criminal Lex Luthor without Superman. (as Superboy's blunder in saving Lex from the chemical fire is what made him hold a lifeling grudge against him)
Also, if it weren't for Hal Jordan, Sinestro wouldn't have been kicked out of the Green Lantern Corps. Never mind there would be no Bizarro without Superman.

That was a good one. One of my favorites.
That was the first episode of the Superfriends that featured a villain from the comic books. This was before the Challenge of the Superfriends.

I like and agree with the idea that Superfriends is both the best and worst cartoon of all time.
I vividly remember the RIP episode having me jacked up till the end.
if Superman didn't exist than Lex Luthor would have never became evil. He became evil because he was angry when Superman accidentally mess his hair up
I liked the episode "Outlaws of Orion". Someone had a quirky sense of humor on that one.
Bounty hunters want to arrest the Super Friends, because in their world, law and justice are crimes.
Batman & Robin both are arrested. In their jail cell there are wanted posters featuring all the Super Friends.
Each of the Super Friends' posters states they are wanted "dead or alive", except for Gleek's.
Gleek's poster just says he's wanted "dead". LOL

I been watching the super friends on DC universe lately and agree with this list I especially liked the universe of evil seeing the alter ego evil version of Wonder Woman, aquaman Batman and the like. A part two where the two of good vs evil superfriends would have been good.
I use to tune in every Saturday for years waiting for the sequel of Universe Of Evil thinking somehow I had missed the original airing of it.
I just wanna go back in time to when all the kids watched this every Saturday morning and show them "Justice League Dark: Apokilips War".
I love The Fear
The Fear should be #1. That was the best episode of SuperFriends. Adam West finally got to do a Batman origin episode.

This was an awesome show with great stories...especially the origins of the Super Friends. They were actually great stories and I loved it when I was a kid.
Superheroes vs. monsters are always great.
I'd have to say you missed one that creeped me out as a kid: The History of Doom, where some aliens find a ruined Earth and piece together what happened. Something about it just creeped me out as a kid, even though looking at it today, there's definitely some silly bits.
Yeah that was a great one too. As I mentioned, The Challenge of the Superfriends was a top ten list all by itself!
I loved this show when I was a kid, and this was a fantastic viceo!
The death of Superman should have gotten a mention.
I think I agree with most of your choices, especially "The Fear" which also had a good dramatic final sequence that made the heroes actually look menacing rather than just bland good guys (check out the "oh crap" reaction by the Scarecrow's minions when Superman, Green Lantern, and Samurai come flying in in a "cavalry rides over the hilltop" moment). I think the honorable mentions should have included the epi where they battle the Capricorn Kid and the one called Space Knights of Camelon," both of which feature parallel civilizations based on eras of Earth's history. "Rub Three Times for Disaster" was not bad either, although the "Arabian Nights" stereotypes might be a bit iffy now.
Your mention of "Rub three times for Disaster" made me chuckle as I thought of the flying carpet starfighters, quite possibly the cheesiest space ships in Saturday morning cartoon history

"Universe of Evil" deserved to be number 1. They should have done a follow up episode where the Superfriends travel to that universe and try to defeat their evil counterparts. Other good episodes include Lex Luthor teaming up with the Fire Creatures from the sun to destroy the Superfriends only to get double crossed by the creatures and Atlantis rising up from the ocean with the women who live there set on conquering Earth bringing Aquaman, Wonder Woman, and Rima to try and defeat them with an epic battle between the Atlantean women and the Amazons from Paradise Island.
Yeah, a Superfriends vs. Super Enemies battle would've been epic!
He honorably mentioned the episode with the fire creatures. Pay attention.

I was a little kid in the 1970s, I love to watch the super friends. Mostly is the super friends and the legion of doom is my favorite.
Every "Challenge of the Superfriends" episode, but out of the other seasons it would have to be "Battle of the Gods". Cracks me up that they have WW shouting "Great Hera" as she rescues the mortal version OF Hera.

The "Roll Call" of The "Legion Of Doom" was very special, simply because we were introduced to 13 of DC Comics Greatest Supervillains!
Indeed, perhaps the greatest line up of supervillains on a team ever.
Though, I'd swap Toyman (too many Superman villains) with Byth (need a Hawkman villain). His morphing ability would be great- turning into monsters and such. :)
Yes not only would there be no Bizarro without Superman but w/o Superman Luthor wouldn't have gone bald by Superboy's mistake of blowing out the fire from the lab of which caused Luther to go evil.But we all get to understand a # of things that don't make sense either.But watch and enjoy and analyze for yourselves a # of things too.

Even Gulliver's Gigantic Goof and The Giants of Doom are great big and small heroic episodes.
Those hour-long episodes with Wendy, Marvin & Wonder Dog were a chore to sit through. Misunderstood scientists are no match for the Legion of Doom.
Legion of Doom was the best. But here's my argument for season 1 :)

Fear was a good episode because you didn't think they'd go there and it also launched a popular internet meme. Dr. Natas (Satan spelled backwards, clever) never showed on the series however, I would have like to see him. Regardless, it was a great episode.
Though there were four episodes in "Challenge", the RIP episode was a proper conclusion, to "Challenge". The LOD is captured and doesn't escape. A rarity of Saturday mornings, that never aired series finales.
There were other episodes when the LOD was captured. Fairy Tale of Doom, Conquerors of the Future and Doomsday
The #10 one where the LOD tried keeping some of the Superfriends from ever existing was good, but all screwed up. If you've seen it did you notice how there were no side effects like when Cheetah kept Diana from being Wonder Woman she would never have become the Cheetah. And how if there was no Superman Luthor would never have become a criminal scientist and there'd be no Bizaro either.
That's just how you know it was a kids show :D
But bothered me when I was a kid!
Yes, the Batman origin story with Scarecrow in eighty-five, took it straight to the big screen with Batman Begins with Dr. Johnathan Craine/Scarecrow in 05, twenty years later.
Evil Robin would make a good Dread Pirate Roberts with that stache.
Universe of Evil was Awesome, It was my Favorite Episode. And it was obviously the inspiration for the Injustice version of the DC Characters.
During the episode called "History of Doom" I actually cried when Superman made his "final speech". I really thought it was all over. Sadly, I think we're all now headed in that direction for real!

But always cool when creators were able to sprinkle in more pathos and thought, then a Saturday Morning Cartoon would really be allow to have.
Ted Knight bellowed that Aquaman is one of the world's 4 greatest heroes before every episode. So the notion that Super Friends ruined his reputation is false.
Ted Knight was only the narrator for the first season, which did feature some of Aquaman's other superpowers. For the most part Aquaman was just the guy who talked to fish and that how most people viewed him because of the show. But don't take my word for it, check this promo from the Cartoon Network (sure it's a joke, but the joke is based on people's believe that Aquaman is lame and Useless- a believe that I never shared :)

Saying the first two seasons had nothing memorable proves your lack of good taste in regards to the Super Friends.

I liked the episode where the Legion of Doom destroyed the earth and those 3 space beings came to find out how it happened.
I believe that was "The History of Doom" yup, almost all of the Challenge episodes were great!
That was a trippy episode. It was shocking to me for that (and Superfriends Rest In Peace) to be the last Challenge of the Superfriends episodes.
Evil Robin with the moustache would have made a great dread pirate Roberts.

i like in the last episode of the Cw crossover event Crisis on infinite Earths, at the very end when they meet in a warehouse, they see in the corner a crate that is open with bananas and we hear a primate cackling and the crate has the words Gleek printed on it,, and they zoom out of the warehouse they are in and it is the Superfriends Hall of Justice shot from these cartoons
I think Superfriends was just goofy. You can tell which ones are REALLY bad when they focus on Marvin and Wendy (although I thought Wendy was cute - sue me) or the Wonder Twins.
Challenge was the best, although, since no one would ever permit the baddies to win on a Superfriends series, they found the stupidest ways FOR the good guys to win. The Legion of Doom had the BEST ideas and they worked perfectly every time. And then, they HAD to end the episode. As we know from Twilight Zone, if you can't get a decent ending, DON'T DO IT!
When I got a little older I lost interest in the Super friends and watched “Spider-Man and his Amazing friends” But this brought back childhood memories.. wow..

Greetings! I got to know your channel today and I'm loving your work on editing with Superfriends episodes. I noticed that you don't used parts of the episode "The Beasts are Coming" in this edition. For me, it is the most shocking episode of all the Super Friends, because it has a strong narrative involving Wonder Woman and the radiation poisoning that turns her into a giant monster. Could you please create a "special edition" with this episode? Something like "40th anniversary" for him? He turned 40 on October 28, 2018 ... Please ... I would love to see a special edition ... thanks for your attention and continue with this wonderful work!

The Beasts are Coming is a good episode for sure. But I don't see myself highlighting a single episode- maybe the whole season. Also, Wonder Woman (and Aquaman) was turned into a monster in "The Incredible Space Circus" from the same season oddly enough.
@@superheropow1 Thank you for reply. So, please do something about the mutations suffered by Wonder Woman and Aquaman (there is another episode with him: " Journey through Inner Space"). Both episodes are about strange radiations...

@Will N Yeah Wonder Girl is always a problem- since she's suppose to be Wonder Woman as a teenager! And everyone who has tried to give her an origin always it long and confusing! I suppose if I took a crack at it, I'd say she's a Wonder Woman from another Earth :p

This was my favorite cartoon as a kid. I have a fuzzy memory about an episode where there are different colors of krytonite that have different effects on Superman. Can't recall which Season or episode this is from.
I can't recall an episode with lots of kryptonite. It/they would pop-up from time to time. In Terror from the Phantom Zone. The villains use red Kryptonite to make Superman old. And one of the crazier ones, Bazarowurld, Bizarro traps Superman in a red k mine. But thankfully (and a real wtf moment) Supes turns all the red k into blue k and defeats Bizarro. Superfriends always had something crazy going on :)
about #10, something else I think they missed doing and that was Sinestro since he was once a Green Lantern himself till Hal Jordan exposed his tyranny and got Sinestro expelled from the Green Lantern corps, and in the context of the episode "Secret Origins of the Superfriends" the moment when Luthor gets Abin Sur's Green Lantern ring, that should have caused Sinestro to vanish from the Hall of Doom with the realization from the Legion that Sinestro was still a Green Lantern since the change in history would mean that he was never exposed as a tyrant. Shocked they never thought of doing that back when this episode was made.
If my memory serves me right, originally Hal was not part of Sinestro's origin. As Sinestro was already a villain when they first met. Still, without Hal, why would he join the Legion???

I do remember watching and liking 2 of the episodes that you showed. I liked the one where the Legion of Doom go back into the past and stop Hal Jordan from being Green Lantern, Wonder Woman (Diana) from leaving Paradise Island, and Superman's ship from landing on Earth. I also liked the one where Scarecrow finds out about Crime Alley and has Batman paralyzed in fear. The one episode that I felt you missed is an episode where Superman was killed by kryptonite and Firestorm blames himself. This was before DC ever "killed" Superman with Doomsday.

And "killing" Superman was fairly common in the comicbooks. John Byrne did in Action Comics #595- again before the big one!
And I believe you can watch all the SuperFriends on Max these days.
In MY mind, the greatest episode of all time is one nobody seems to have mentioned - "The Mind Maidens". My G*d, I spent YEARS trying to find a copy of THAT (and eventually did). Medulla sort of hypnotizes all the women of the world to "dematerialize" all men, so that she (or, according to her, all the women of the world) can rule the world. Lots of chicks with white eyes, eye beams, and uber-sexy monotone voices was Hawt as Hell.
My second favorite has always been #6, "Attack Of The Vampire".

Super Friends was a fave of mine growing up, and while I agree with your assessment that the first season didn't really have any gems, I think there were a few in the All New season. The Water Beast, which gave us our first glimpse of (Black) Manta, and The Ghost (with Gentleman Jim Cradock) come to mind.
True enough, though while the character inclusion is cool, the episodes themselves were pretty standard :)
i like the ones where the Superfriends have to help save Gorilla City , and the one where we see the secret origins of the Legion of Doom members
Gorilla City was featured in (of course) Revenge on Gorilla City :)
What I never understood about the Universe of evil episode wouldn't the Legion of doom be the legion of heroes in that world?

Glad you did not insult us with episodes from the awful 1st and 2nd seasons. I respect them but am honest about the cheese that they are. My only gripe is not including The Death of Superman episode, that was great.
Seems I really should have included that one- it's the one people mention the most. While I agree it's a great ep, I over looked it because it seemed to suggest the Superfriends are helps without Supes, to which I disagree :)
@@superheropow1 - I disagree too, Superman had to be saved in that episode and eventually would have died if not for the SF's. Great list anyway and again, super thanks for not forcing the stuff from the clearly obvious weak seasons

I think I've always conflated the vampire episode and the Frankenstein episode as one in my head. Not sure I realize there were two separate episodes.
The Superfriends were cheesy as all hell, but I still loved every minute of it.
I figured "Universe of Evil," "The Fear" and "Superfriends: Rest In Peace" would be on this list. I liked all three of them; however, I'm a little partial to "The Ghost," the featured story in the season finale of The All-New Superfriends Hour, "The 50-Foot Woman" from The All-New Superfriends Hour, "Battle at the Earth's Core" from The New Superfriends, "Bride of Darkseid, Parts 1 and 2" from Superfriends: The Legendary Super-Powers Show, and "The Wild Cards" from The Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians.
The latter especially. It marks the only appearance by The Joker on "The Superfriends".

Let's also not forget it was Lex Luthor blaming Superboy for his hair loss that made Lex evil. That would've been funny if Superman disappears from the Super Friends but Lex is suddenly one of the good guys.

I grew up with the Wendy & Marvin & Wonderdog episodes, but yeah there’s no question that apart from Alex Toth’s character design work there really isn’t much to recommend there.
The formula always seemed to involve some well meaning but misguided or mad scientist whose plans to improve the world would always screw up everything instead and The Superfriends would have to straighten everything out, with Wendy & Marvin’s help usually.
Lord those kids and their dog really grated.
It's funny looking back at those, the current "negative" though of superhero movies seems to apply. The superheroes are just the protectors of the status quo. :D
I like the Superfriends episode with red Kryptonite turning Superman into an old man and later being cured by blue Kryptonite. Especially the one with red Kryptonite giving him two extra arms.
Hmm, you got me with the one with extra arms. Red K usually shows up in Mxyzptlk episodes, so maybe one of those. As for turning Superman into an old man, that was "Terror from the Phantom Zone", first appearance of Phantom Zone villains. Oddly enough, each time Phantom Zone villains appear, they are never the same ones! Such fun :)
I hated getting up early for school but Saturday morning at 8am I was up with my favorite cereal and watching my favorite dc super heroes all on the same show. It use to bug me that they weren’t called the justice league . I loved corny or not.
I hear ya! Though, I discovered them before I was aware of the JLA. So the with times they said, Justice League always confused me :)
I also had to deal with religious studies on Saturday Morning! Robbing me of my precious cartoon watching time!!! Thankfully the Superfriends were on earlier than the class :)

Another episode I remember....probably Toymaker....had a giant teddy bear or dolly crush a Tonika dump truck....makes sense since Tonka Dump Trucks were advertising they could survive the weight of an elephant
I would have had the original Death of Superman story from Season 8 in there as well.
The alt universe episode has stuck with me my entire life. I saw it before the Trek version.
The weirdest SF memory that stands out to me, was being squicked out as a kid when Aquaman turned into a giant whale, and they had to shrink down and go through his heart and other organs. As corny as it sounds, I would close my eyes for some of those scenes.
I'm 50 although I seen these episodes before I can't remember them enough to verify your findings. But I do remember your last pick, because I think it was the first time I saw Superman vs Batman.
