hey im not an oboe player, im a college clarinetist. got suggested this by the youtube algorithm. you sound wonderful and youve got a great sound! ive always admired the warmth of the oboe sound and tried to get my clarinet sound a bit more warm/round. ofc not trying to simply mimic an oboe sound tho haha
You cannot duplicate the "?" (I believe timbre is the word) of a double reed instrument with a single reed type. (Warmth does kinda cover the difference).
@@rayzhang5551 Oh no, please dont misunderstand me. I was confirming your point. Im a "scientific type" and I wish there was a way I could see the wave forms on an oscilloscope side by side and be able to understand W H A T it is that makes double reeds so different in sound. Truly I am just glad that I can still hear as much as I do. 60 years ago I was tested to be able to hear 26Khz - I could hear bats on the flight line at night around the flood lights. Now at 88 I can no longer hear any of the last 11 keys on an 88key piano (dont know the freqs.) I have to "imagine" the notes in my favorite violin concertos. PS also cant hear the first 6 bass on the piano. Protect your hearing. Machinery noise did me in.
no tempo change written in the score, guess this is an interpretation thing for that recording but I'm not a big fan, still I do love the way that theme seems to be more expansive as if there were a change in tempo in other recordings that are a little more faithful
Faithfull ? To what ? I'm not sure the job of musicians is to strictly observe the written signs. Sometimes the essential element lies elsewhere and has to be found. There is an other change of tempo in the first movement of this symphony, when the second theme starts. But many people ignore it because it is not written either.
@@calembourman2295 Totally agree with you about not strictly observing markings and looking beyond the score, but simply put if Schubert wanted a tempo change he would've written it! And there is definitely no tempo change in the 2nd theme of the first movement, as this would cause all kinds of problems/inconsistencies in the development section. Schubert even puts in a wonderful artificial rit through changing from triplet feel to duplet in the bars preceding so that any real tempo change is not necessary.
@@Sam-zt2ur it's a very subtile one, so yeah maybe this was why he didn't write it... Of course it makes the development more delicate but this is part of the richness many people just don't even dream of. But some conductors just happen to be great musicians too, and they manage to make it happen. Maybe I should try to find if any recording just shows what I'm talking about better than words.
All soul's windows opening! inspired very beautiful tone a higher plateau. A listener who has rarely listened to or fully appreciated the classical oboe. A wondrous new experience.
Excelente video. Esta sinfonía es de mis favoritas y escuchar los instrumentos de viento por separado ha sido algo que siempre me ha atraído. Este oboe suena hermoso, gracias por compartir tu talento.
Not an oboe player myself so I don't know the terminology but I love your legato playing on those long notes, the tone (intonation?) and loudness was so pleasing and even that I just had to comment!
Very nice sound and good breath control. You could go for a little more vibrato and shaping of the line to take advantage of the expressive qualities of the oboe. I recently took up the English Horn, another beautiful instrument.
I have a few questions if you’re willing to chat about them! I started oboe about half a year ago and I play in my High Schools Symphonic band for it voluntarily, i don’t have the “best” sound but it’s decent, how can i get it to be a pretty warm oboe sound like yours? Is there any secrets on air support or like quality of reeds? Lmk pleaseeee!
I am also still working on tone 😅 What I am doing currently is to work on an "O" embouchure. You can achieve this through slightly jutting out your chin and emulate the embouchure of whistling. Tone and tuning should improve drastically through this. For air support, I like to have a mental image of an open throat which allows me to get a bigger airway. My reeds are currently easy to play one which is not great for intonation so I am transitioning to harder reeds which will create a stronger sound and more stable intonation.
and you don't need to be concerned about me... I am 73, retired after 48 years of teaching music, band, choir and elementary music K-6 my last seven years... I do play in a community band - and we actually have a decent oboist... although if you were to come, we would 'find a chair for you.' :-)
Can I ask what grade you're in? I'm an 8th grade oboe player and I'm not sure when my sound will become more refined like yours so I'd at least like a estimate.

@@valeriexu5537 Thanks a lot for a very sensible answer. My question was definitely serious, even though I tried to make it a bit humorous. $3000 is a lot, yes. I looked at Thomann. Their cheapest one was a bit more than $1000, but is unfortunately made of some kind of plastic. I play saxophone, and I have a soprano, a tenor, and baritone. Maybe I should look a bit closer at the Thomann one, maybe it is good enough for me. Do you have any opinon about it being made of plastic? Sry for the late reply! I would say if it’s just a hobby, you should just rent a plastic oboe since it wouldn’t be worth it to pay $1000. Definitely try the oboe out but it will be tough in the beginning 😅

Nice tone and this is not an easy piece. Try to sit back more in the chair and straight so as not to impede your breath support and just a little bit more vibrato on the slurred parts. Nice job!! Oh, and I am an oboist.

Schubert has an extraordinary ability to change tempo on a regular basis in his compositions. The sudden change at 0:52 is so beautiful.
