VII itself features Bahamut-ZERO that sends a nuclear-bomb-equivelant orbital strike that is comparable to XVI's Zetaflare in spite of it also 'only' being called Teraflare.

I thought the exact same thing! Given the Wings of Light, Gigaflare having a similar color and effect to Strike Freedom's chest positron canon, and the Satellites functioning like the Dragoons I wouldnt be surprised if it was the primary inspiration.
Except Donald's Zettaflare killed him immediately when he used it against Terra/Xehanort in KH3. Meanwhile FF16 Bahamut can keep going even after using a Zettaflare that can burn the entire world, so Donald Duck still loses.

I guess it's because unlike Golden Bahamut who cast its ZettaFlare during the cutscene, Ifrit on the other hand cast its Hellfire during gameplay, and will launch the giant fire ball in cinematic cutscene whether the player Phoenix is able to deplete Ifrit's HP in time or not.
It annoys me slightly that they completely skip over Peta and Exa prefixes. Those are perfectly good prefixes too, but I guess "Zs are cool" or something.
