Terry Allen She is well known, but she has never gotten her just due from the Industry. She should have been esteemed as highly as Aretha, Gladys, Whitney, etc and she never has been. They kinda put her in a box. They tried to low key keep her in the Jazz Artist box and she was definitely more than that. They had her slated Adult-Contemp when she was in her 30s.

Because if you knew anything about her, you would've known she's an eight (8) time Grammy Award Winner and have been noted and recognized as such in the R & B category; not Jazz. In fact, the majority of all her GRAMMY AWARDS were/are in the Best Female Vocalist R & B category. They did not put her in a box. In fact, she won her first Grammy Award/s in the R & B category in 1987 when she was 28 yrs. old. That's way before her 30's. She was in the same category as Sade, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Patti LaBelle and many others. She was never boxed in the Jazz category. You would know these facts if you had thoroughly done your research. It is also apparent that you weren't around in the 80's or you just did not pay attention. I went to see her during the Rapture tour in DC in 1986. The show ended and she allowed people to approach the stage to accept roses and shake hands. I fought my way through the crowd to get as close as I could. I was waving my program like a mad man. She thought I wanted her to sign it. She said, “Oh, I’m sorry baby. I can’t sign it for you.” I said, “I don’t care, just touch it.” She took it out of my hand, hugged it and gave it back. We shook hands and I walked away with my legs feeling like rubber. I thought I was going to die. I still have the program to this day.

Von The Stampede I was reliving the moment as I typed out the story. I can’t lie, I almost had to reach for a tissue. Years later I went to see her again at the same venue. We had tickets months in advance. Our seats were in the third row, I believe. By the time the show rolled around; I’d had emergency knee surgery. I couldn’t sit in the regular seats. I had to be seated in the handicapped section in a wheelchair. I was disappointed, but; I still got to see her. You know I had flashbacks to the time I was able to get closer.
I was at this show! Constitution Hall! This was the first concert I'd ever attended where the performer interacted with the fans like that. I was in awe!

My favorite R&B female singer of all time. Rapture still gets constant rotation from me. There’s very few current females who could hold a candle to this woman’s singing ability.

How could she possibly be underappreciated when the Grammy Awards have recognized her eight(8) times in her career, plus countless other awards and accolades? Plus, she is still constantly touring. Unsung...the REAL "Unsung", is for those artists who never achieved the same success and accomplishments as their contemporaries who have achieved success in the music industry. That is why "Unsung" was first created. Anita Baker is in the category with the likes of Aretha Franklin, Patti Labelle, Natalie Cole, Chaka Khan, Whitney Houston, Sade and Nancy Wilson. Anita Baker is already a legend and does not need an Unsung.

Totally agree. Think it is younger generation who don’t know half the living legends or realize their stories. She is far beyond Unsung and widely recognized.

Just one thing...and I hope you don't see this comment as bad...PLEASE make sure you are pronouncing these things right. Like the Winans and Arista Records. Let someone from my era watch it first before you post to make sure you are pronouncing correctly. You never know who is watching and where your career can go. Clearly you are a talented young man and you have a passion for this. What you are doing is a form of reporting/journalism. the late great GERALD LEVERT was always unfortunately another underrated and unappreciated artist who didn't win anything from the Grammy Awards until AFTER he passed away !!
Exactly right he was a great singer, writer, and producer, among others talents! He and Marc Gordon co-written the song " Whatever It Takes " on the " Compositions" album! Great song, RIP Gerald Levert.

Thanks for the video. Many of these artists deserve the additional exposure your videos give them but they also deserve better research, more accurate enunciation of several words and sentences that are more grammatically sound.
I have adored this lady since she released her 2nd album "Rapture" and since then have bought every single one!! I just wish she would come to the UK because I would so LOVE to see her live...she is in my top 5 favourite female soul singers...I LOVE HER SO MUCH!!!

You do very well with covering pertinent information. However, I think the little inserts like the laughing kind of makes the video tacky. Also, please make sure you pronounce words clearly and get the names of people correct (eg. it’s the Winans, bot Winers.). God bless!
