Just stared playing HorizonXI a few days ago, and after playing XI (still playing) for the past 20+ years, i have to say its nice to go back my roots lol. I can tell immediately after checking around town that its been changed. Certain NPC stores dont have certain items and prices on items (some lower, some higher) were changed. Leveling has also been tweaked differently then it was on retail back in '04/06 during launch of the base game in USA and its expansion Chains of Promathia in '06. Overall its a great experience im having so far. Lots of people playing and plenty of shouts happening for various activies. Definitely going to keep an eye on this server going forward, I just hope the devs get into ToAU expansion soon. Anyone looking to give XI a try after playing XIV, you can't go wrong with this private server. It will give you a feel for what XI was like and hopefully a good idea as to how XI and other Online MMOs back then were. There is a certain charm to them. They hit different and modern MMOs today just dont have it. Not to say XIV is bad, by all means no. XIV was intended to be XI's replacement and XI in turn went on to do so much more and still going strong today with a lot of XIVs modern additions added in.

only way i can consider this is if a lot of people are playing. i'm sure we all remember how long those party grinds were back in the day..is there enough people to support finding parties often?
The server has roughly 1600-3200 people on daily… but you might still find yourself waiting for parties.. obviously support and tank jobs find party faster but I’ve never gone more then a few hours looking for parties… (rdm, blm, bst all @75)
I'm playing again for the first time in years and I can say yes, there are enough people to support finding parties and getting parties together quickly.
I tried a couple of years ago to rez my old FFXI account for nostalgia sake, but I had issues with getting it all to work again. I had a house full of furniture and crystal plants. Took forever to get all of that, especially since this was OG FFXI, where you couldn't solo anything and the xp penalty for rez'ing at a save point was so bad that you lay in one spot waiting for a friend to chocobo to you. Ah, the good ol' days of breaking fishing pole after fishing pole for .06 skill points 🙂

I've played retail on and off for a few years now and I'm looking to spice things up with Horizon. Is there a healthy playerbase across all levels? Will I be able to run into other new players?
In my experience yes!… it seems to have a player population between 2-3k.. I started back in November and there were a ton of new players to group up with, as for now my guess would be yes, I routinely see shouts in chat and exp parties have always been easy to join. Tanks and healers are always in demand lol
I'm an ancient FFXI veteran, just wondering if there's anything that might surprise me before starting on Horizon. i was a THF and spent most of my time nm camping.. I see there's an adjusted way to claim mobs where everyone gets a chance. what is that like/how long does the window stay open before claim?

Is this modded server able to do 60 fps instead of the 30 fps they forced on us back in the day?
I technically only used 30fps… I heard it looks good at 60 but it might crash during some cutscenes

Hey Jose! That’s typical 👍 this game is made for people who like the grind 😜! If you are looking to speed up the leveling process, eat food that increases your attack (meat jerky) and use Selbina milk(regen drink).That will help you kill faster and reduce downtime. Also target enemies that check easy prey for the best experience per hour. The enemies right outside your home nation should give exp til lvl 10.
Can this be played on any new laptops? Or does it have to be windows 10 Haven't played in 7 years

My minimap is a circle in the top left corner of the screen. How can I move it? It covers my equipment menu. Also, my gear menu shows up on the start screen, before even selecting a character. How do I make that go away?
You can shift click and drag the map. Alternatively type “/mm” while in game and you can adjust things in that menu. You need to be in “windowed mode to move icons around on the screen, you can set that from the launcher. Gear menu should leave after you are in game, I have the same thing happening, it doesn’t bother me during gameplay so I left it

@@ChrisBassettTV I have another silly question. I haven't really played since like the early 2000's, and I forgot how to solve this issue. My camera keeps turning around my character no matter what I do. Moving the mouse around the screen only slows the turning but never completely halts it. It wasn't happening when I logged on earlier today, but logging on just now, it started immediately.
@@ChrisBassettTV Sorry to bug so much. I got the camera rotating issue fixed. I just logged out and back in. I have another issue. My game always looks stretched sideways. I've changed the aspect ratio in-game several times. I have the Background Resolution, Menu Resolution, and Window Resolution all set to 2560x1440. I don't mind the tiny text on the menus. The game always looks stretched sideways. When I change the aspect ratio in-game, the scrolling background on the start screen changes, and even the characters in the character select screen get thinner, but in the actual game it's always exactly the same stretched.
Welp, I found the answer on Google from 2012. Apparently there are two places to change the aspect ratio, both in-game, which is very odd. I went to the Config > Misc. 2 menu and changed it there. That worked.
how did you make your game look like that with the outlines?
In the launcher I switched to windowed mode… is that what you mean? Or you mean the cell shaded graphics?… you can use that from the launcher addons 😁
On the macros do you not need the quotation marks!!! You mean i been putting those around the skill/magic name for 20+ years for nothing!?!??? 💀

I always wanted to play FFXI, but the thing that bothered me most was the User Interface, It's one of the worst ever, even worse than EQ. Probably because it was mainly intended for console/controllers and not PC/keyboard.

Hey Justin! I’m not completely sure but if you are trying to recover your banned account on HorizonXI you should contact the game's customer support on Discord. Put in a ticket and provide them with any relevant information they may require to verify your identity and explain your situation. They will guide you through the process of recovering your account, if possible.

Why didnt you just screen-record the screen instead of using a camera?
Hey Johan! I use my phone because I use the Inshot app to voiceover and edit videos.. i can use OBS, it’s just much faster to edit with Inshot.. and that already takes hours as is 😂
