    Been a player since Day 1 of Vanguard. Stuck with the game ever since. D Standard has become the most fun and unique format since Limit Break/Break Ride. I've managed to bring in more people to the game than I have with the previous formats.

    Great video Amigo, was a great watch and listen!
    Been playing since V series - I do play both Premium and Standard, but much prefer the gameplay of premium. Feels more "outside the lines" compared to standard, and a lot more player deck building expression. I also feel like I have more of a connection with the older art style and some of the units. Kinda silly, but it's deff in the back of my mind lol.
    Standard is great in its own right, it provides a bit of a sandbox experience where the best players can go up against each other with the best decks, and let slight variations in gameplay change the result. I think other than that, it just feels too generic like you mentioned, irregardless if the data shows a lot of variety. Everything feels somewhat similar and very "training wheels". Conversely though, getting proficient at a deck is a pretty quick turnaround as you mentioned which is a plus. Little bit of a mixed bag in general.
    I personally don't care for the nation system. It's not different or unique when every nation gets the same triple rare generic staple updates every few months, and only a few archetypes have their own engines powerful enough to stand out from others in the nation.
    Thanks again for making this video, really got the gears turning!

      @@AlexCFV Thanks for the kind words! Means a lot from other fellow creators. 💪
      Yeah that's another perfect way of saying the decks in standard do feel a bit "training wheels". After a few games, you're pretty much good to go. Then it's just additional effort to learn matchups with it and niche scenarios.
      It's a mixed bag of pros/cons to what a player values. I think it's great that I've had recent friends pick up standard and can feel good enough going into a regional within a week's time. That's good for any new entry players.
      Yes I also feel that connection towards the old units. That's one of those clan identity-related aspects that stood out compared to other TCGs, especially Yu-Gi-Oh. To me early on, that's what made Vanguard very enticing. Especially to the point where I've become a content creator to share my enthusiasm and passion for the game. I think becoming a content creator and keeping it up for years is extra special and care for the TCG.
      Looking forward to see what you got for future content as well! Especially since you mentioned it got gears churning 👀

    Hi Jaime, I'm a player who started Vanguard mid-G era. I quit set 4 OverDress but then came back around DivineZs start.
    I actually made fun of encounter decks back during Set 2 OD because they had made a big deal of never seeing the old units again and then only 2 sets in "here's overlord!!"
    But nowadays especially with the stride decks I think it's awesome we have encounter decks and it makes the current iteration of Vanguard feel genuinely whole and complete
    Standard is currently my favorite state Vanguard has ever been in (I have 8 decks built soon to be 9 with Harri) and I've never been more inclined to recommend Vanguard to people than I am now. I just wish we had more viable starter product. Stardust Blade was a decent start but really should just include effect triggers and Sanctitudes at this point

    For me, the reason I like standard is the unique gimmicks some decks have compared to older decks while still being within the bounds of what vanguard is. Though I do hope we get a few stranger playstyles in the future or even just a gimmick akin to Legion or the Yamigedo spread across two cards from buddyfight. Something really weird could also be fun, like the Later V collection stuff. My friend is constantly trying to make a turbo V Reijy work in premium and I enjoyed Origin Saver Zero and the gimmick of dropping power or crit to 0 to defend itself.

      To put it shortly I think vanguard is at it's best when it's a little weird and allows for a deck to branch into different platitudes as opposed to cookie cutter type lists where once it's solved that's all people will play

      @enigmatickitsune8101 that makes sense and I do agree. When things were clan restricted it was pretty "restricting" within those clan decks. If it's going to be a Shadow Paladin, it was predictable and restricting that G1s were involved. Granblue has to revive from drop, while Angel Feather from damage zone, etc.
      Playing Glory Maelstrom in Standard encompasses aspects that pure Aqua Force didn't for many years. The usage of orders, the ability to call from Soul, Deck, and Drop.

      @@CommanderJaime Lol I was thinking Vanguard Underdressed but Z works too.
      Anyway though my main concern with Standard and only supporting standard is the inflated price of cards. Triggers were already egregious being 5-10 dollars for just one, but now we have so many generics, dual nations, etc. The standard gameplay is homogenized outside of the ride line in my opinion which is highly disappointing. And finally, energy. Truly the worst addition to vanguard in my opinion as it has essentially created a second market of "energy" that can cause the top end of sets to be essentially glorified tokens. Like, why? This is just the most blatant predatory practice I have seen a card game pivot to and it is sad that the community eats it up.

    • @CommanderJaime
      @CommanderJaime  11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@TTPMMA underdressed is pretty clever too ha!
      Yeah the triggers going up I think is due to them being used by 6 nations vs triggers being used for 24 clans. There was some clans that were cheaper than others due to popularity and metagame relevance. So pricing for staples per clan I think was cheaper due to many players being split between each clan.
      Like Keter Sanctuary is one of the biggest. All the Paladin clans belong to it and those have seen popularity and metagame relevance over the years. So all of those players need Keter Sanctuary cards if they continue to play in Standard. Alongside with Genesis, OTT, and Angel Feather players.
      That's one aspect that comes to mind.
      The energy mechanic has its pros/cons. Pros is that it's another resource so cards can use skills without having to power creep too much. The con is that opponents cannot "deny energy". At least in today's game.

    • @TTPMMA
      @TTPMMA 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@CommanderJaime Energy should have been designed like memory is in Digimon in my opinion. If it were it would have added a true strategy portion to how much energy would be used per turn. Also wouldn't limit all energy card designs inherently by making them all 3 or lower cost. To my knowledge (not a big standard player) we have yet to see anything past 3 energy. But just imagine the ability to use a 8 energy cost card to swing the game, and it passes over the opponent who now has lets say 7 energy to use etc. I just think it could have been done better, but to me it proves the lack of effort on Bushiroad's part.

    • @CommanderJaime
      @CommanderJaime  11 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@TTPMMA there's definitely room to explore for higher costing energy skills. I think that would add the short term vs long term benefits of skills. Plus the usage of cards that increase energy.

    Been playing since Eng Format release day. V Series is the one I probably played the least (but there was also a lot of personal stuff happening alongside trying to keep up with the power creep).
    Over the years I've played a bit of every clan including collabs (G Era Touken Ranbu was wild and in Bushi Navi I finally managed to build a full Cray Elemental Deck for memes). Standard I love though. And I've dabbled with most decks in the game again cause I have a serious problem 🤣 But let me tell you I am hyped for Harri to return. Closest thing I've ever had to an Avatar. Even have a shoulder tattoo of the Pale Moon Clan Icon (Diffriders!!) but even then I have a few other decks in Standard that'll give me variety plus whatever is on the horizon.
    Hitting up Tampa BCS and I know my Premium Deck already even though I had no plans to participate in that format and I'm still struggling to decide my Standard pick and that's the format I planned on participating in without question.
    So I guess long story short, as a Day 1 English Player, yes I play Standard format and tend to enjoy it more than the past formats overall. I will always have some nostalgia for the old days though as I don't think I disliked any portion of the original series from Dragonic Overlord & Blaster Blade up through Gyze. I even enjoyed Legion era 😅 But I am looking forward to Dear Days 2 giving me the ability to play some of my older builds again 🤙

    Encounter decks surely nostalgia bait, once in a blue moon they will get support because most of the time they will focus on new/anime decks. And more and more decks were left behind for year(s). I do enjoy current standard to an extent but I feel like it still gets boring way too quickly unless I'm switching decks every 2-3 games, and that ultimately kills my desire to compete, which is fine as I enjoy the game casually, but that doesn't mean I'm entirely happy with it.
    Certain encounters just feel so poorly and lazily designed. When I was on a break from standard, Ezel drew me in again, but my god that deck was abysmally handled. So many cards just aren't future proofed correctly and they end up being powercreeped in annoying ways. I'm fine with powercreep but the way they handle it for encounters just frustrates me and drives me back to V and Premium. Maelstrom and Minerva are some of my favourite decks to play in standard but I can only play 2 games of them at a time
    I do enjoy a lot of the Original Decks in standard as they feel like they were designed tastefully and with future sets in mind, so I'm never really annoyed when they get powercrept, especially since they are able to come back in to relevance when Bushiroad decide to be generous.
    I think my main gripe with standard has to be the ride deck forcing so many cards to be linearly designed to be RC focused or VC Rideline focused. Makes a lot of the early game feel monotonous and makes me miss V and Premium. I wish they more interesting things with the ride deck like Griphogila or allowing you to use the Ride deck to call units if you ride from hand in specific decks

    I see encounters as nothing more than cheap low effort nostalgia bait. They're meant to bring back players who left long ago but other than that the nostalgia well in VG is so dry beyond all possible reason that it gets zero reaction out of me. Does not help that 90% of the time encounters are just the exact same old card with 1 minor line of text added and that's it.

    Standard cant even be compared to some V decks as gameplay wise and certainly its not even near to premium as complexity and combos you can do. Clans becoming nations was awfull because you are forced to play some cards that really dont like art wise just to have a better deck and ok OT is really the worse thing that happened to Vanguard. Art has become more generic too in D and its another negative it has. Premium was really really fun till 2 eyars ago that they just stopped supporting it and made that awfull crest thing and 1st 3g turn stride.
