    For me the most challenging train to drive on TSW2 . Nicely explained tutorial.👍

      Most of my problems with this train comes from The gear

      Glad it was of help. I don't think you are alone in finding this the most challenging of drives.

    As for coasting, 4th gear is needed not for fuel efficiency but for reduced transmission wear. When in other gears, the different components of the transmission are rotating at different velocities and uneven wear & damage can occur. In 4th, all gears are locked together and rotate at the same speed. The fluid coupling has a free wheeling feature that engages in 4th gear as well. It is also recommended to engage neutral just before stopping.
    As for engaging the throttle too quickly during shifts, the manufacturer recommends waiting a minimum of 2 seconds after selecting a gear before engaging the throttle. This is required as the transmission’s brake bands do take 1-2 seconds to stop the different gear sets.

      Don't forget that failure to wait 2 seconds can also damage the gears as well.

    Very Detailed and great appreciate the tutorial on this train the introduction on this one was confusing (to me). But this has cleared it all up.

    Great vid, just be sure the handbrake is released in the rear cab before setting off!

      Great advice! I think by default it is released when you start the sim. But if you are going end to end and applying the handbrake for whatever reason then this is sure to catch you out.

    I didn't realise you had to let the revs drop all the way down before throttling back up again, I kept overrevving my train and didn't know why lmao

    the gearbox is not sync. like driving a WWII Jeep, you have to accelerate, decelerate the entire gearbox rotation and finally accelerate again. to slow down it is the same thing.
    my biggest problem was the brake valve. now Class 101; I love it. it is one of the most pleasant railcars to drive. my timing is always perfect.
    Obviously, the beginnings were catastrophic.

    What speeds to you need to be at in order to change down from 4th to 3rd, 3rd to 2nd, 2nd to 1st without over revving the engine?

    • @SimuDan
      @SimuDan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In honesty I’m not sure. I tend to take it as low as possible in the green zone on the Rev counter before changing down.

      From 4th to 3rd: 40mph, 3rd to 2nd: 25mph and finally 2nd to 1st: 15mph. Also watch the tachometer as well which has the change up and change down indicators on it as well. The 2 second pause is also still necessary for change down a gear.
      I'd also recommend watching the BR DMU driver training video which is used for training drivers on the real BR early DMUs including the class 101 and covers the proper operation of the 4 speed gearbox.

      This is the Tees valley line. It should be available as part of the preserved collection on the Xbox store, or by going through the in game store

    We should all be eligible candidates for rail operator positions.

      Unfortunately in my case I’m colour deficient so won't ever be eligible.

    Why does your train have a steering wheel?

    • @SimuDan
      @SimuDan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That would be the handbrake. It’s operable in the sim, but seeing as watching a wheel spin round for a good long while wouldn’t make for entertaining viewing, I decided not to cover it.

    • @steamier7755
      @steamier7755 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a handbrake wheel. The BR DMU training video clearly shows this.

    What does the engine change over do?

    • @steamier7755
      @steamier7755 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The engine gear changeover allows the train to select a higher gear to accelerate more efficiently without consuming a lot of fuel nor overload the engine.
