Same! This watch was expensive for a g shock but I have been itching to buy it ever since I tried in a boutique 3 years ago. Today I finally bought it! Can't wait to collect it in a couple of days!. Bittersweet feeling after having paid top dollar it but what the hell! I just can't get over how cool this watch is!
Thank you for this video, Greg :) I feel the same way about this watch for the last 2-3 years. It was like listening to myself 😀 It is just too much money for only one watch. Where I live the price is staying rock solid, not changing at all.
I bought the B5000 2 years ago. And a year later I got myself a 5610. I found out that I wear that one a whole lot more than the B5000. It's just so much more comfortable to wear. And I just dig that retro look. I never used the bluetooth function.
Similar position here. I have the black metal version of this series. There is a special coating on the black version that makes it more resistant to wear and tear so mine still looks (mostly) new. I also have the updated version of the 5610. It’s lighter and has the positive display (the black metal has a negative display). The module in the 5610u (3495) is now on par with the black metal 5000 series (bluetooth aside of course) so they are more or less identical function for function. I wear them equally depending on mood or activity. One other thing: In snowy, cold weather it is the resin 5610u every time. The metal 5000 never warms up on the wrist.
very happy for you Greg. Your enthusiasm for the g shock squares... really adorable. nice move with your patience on tracking down the best price. Well done.👍
I just bought this GMW B5000D today as smart casual everyday watch. This thing is so pretty I'm definitely going to baby it and keep it looking real shiny... My other watches I wear them hard. GWG 1000 mudmaster on its second bezel and strap, GWG 2000 mudmaster, GWG 100 mudmaster, G9300 mudman, GW 9400 rangeman, and a GX 56 BB king with bull bars on its second strap when I'm in the field.
That is one good looking collection you got over there Greg.As for the new part of it,you've pointed out right,it's a collectors item,it's not meant to be worn every day.It is,however,an outstanding piece you deserve to enjoy.Untill next time, take care youself.
Full metal square is very nice. Good finishing and details, also the bracelet is amazing. I also have an MT-G B2000, and an MR-G B1000. In these watches you don't only pay for the features in the module. You pay for the specila materials and the craftsmanship. Each MT-G and MR-G watch is assebled by hand, and most of the components for the watch are built/machined there to a very high standard. It is watchmaking at a very high level, and i believe you get what you pay for. But ofc the roots of G-Shock is in the affordable beater watches. But they do both luxury and beater very well.
I will bet you didn’t know that manny polishing preparing and producing was done by Seiko cuz Casio doesn’t have master zaratsu polishers or know how or zaratsu machines which are exclusivly made by Seiko cuz they are the only full in house watch brand in the world, they even have wood plantation, steel factories, quartz and glass factory, micro artist machine factory, titanium and steel mines, micro artisans, jewelers, master craftsmen, master zaratsu craftsmen, micro engraving craftsmen, master painters, enamel and porcelain production and so much more. Infact Oceanus line is also prepared by Seiko and then assembled in Yamagata prefecture where all mrg,mtg and b5000 are produced.
I went from one (the full silver) to four B5000, added the full metal in black and red, and the silver on the rubber band. I never payed full retail, they were all secondhand at around half price. My wife wears the red one, she adores it. I sold the half metal again and didn’t lose a dime, another advantage of buying secondhand.
I am glad you did this video, was interested your take on the metal square. I actually snagged one this year for a great deal, a bit lower than 350 brand new, and had my thoughts on it. I also have a gw-b5600 with the midnight green variation, and after seeing your video on that as well, I put that on a V1 combi bracelet. It is my most worn watch, even though I own many mechanicals and swiss made ones as well. However, I am now selling my metal square, it just doesn't make any sense now. It is quite heavy and bit bulkier, and although it looks good (I've actually went to a wedding with it), it just not gets enough wrist time anymore. For me, the looks and feel of a good square has become GW-B5600MG-1 with the v1 combi.
This is very humble n the fairest review i ever heard. Im also need to think over n over again before purchasing a watch. Even its not a fancy one. Its awesome n entertaining review though. Thankyou n stay healthy, mate 💪😎😇
maybe a little everyone before taking it thought a little, I had an opportunity last month 380 euros, from a shop closing and then I could not do anything but take it.Congratulations on your formidable collection... I'll get there too
Again, money spending on something that looks brand new and it looks breathtaking that costs so much money is so risk taking, glad you have that sir, I need to have the one with that Resin Band. That'll look incredible on me.
Well I'm late to the party on this one but thank you for the review. I'm expecting mine next week. I will add however I feel the polishing was done to create those scratches, to create those memories in to the watch. Yes it's pretty but it's tough. Add those scratches, make those memories and they'll last forever, just like the watch!
I know that G-Shocks and other Casio watches are relatively inexpensive compared to a lot of other brands. And I know I often say that the price makes a certain watch a good candidate to be a "beater" watch. But I still have a tendency to want them all to remain in mint condition. Maybe I'm doing it wrong. But that's also the nice thing about watch collecting. Everyone can do it their own way and I'm okay with that!
Hi Greg, can you please do a video on the various types of G-shock squares? I want to buy some, starting from the model very close to the first release but I get confused with the numbering they’ve put on. DW, GW, GWM etc etc and then after the number 5600, 5600-1, 5600U-1, JF, etc etc. Thank you.
With the MR-G watches you are buying a piece of jewellery that just happens to be a very functional watch. The price may be high but they are rarer than a Rolex and with limited production runs, the prices are only likely to go up.
Snapped one up for £350 here in the UK. couldn't be happier! The only downside is that you don't use it as a daily watch cos you really dont wanna scratch it.
Man those Titanium Gshocks are uber expensive. I love how they look but I wish it was around 1K or less not 3k. I splurged myself this month cause of my birthday in July and finally ordered that Protrek Titanium PRW-70T I always wanted. Damn it was expensive but not these titanium gshock expensive at least. I knew I should have bought one before they discontinued them though so I guess I got to be happy i didn't pat too much more then Sakura watches was selling them for. ugh
I bought a titanium kit from Ali express. The finishing is not as nice as the OEM, but it is ok with me. I later bought the carbon fiber model and a titanium kit, as the carbon fiber model has a titanium back, but that adds quite a bit of cost, as the carbon fiber model is over $200.00.
Yes, look at MRG B5000. 3100 euros 🤣🤣. You pay for nicely brushed Titanium. Mods from Ali express titanium or steel are not nice as original, they have sharp edges. So I’m satisfied with gmw b5000.
Greg, love your honesty in the review. I have a silver GMW B5000 and a GWB 5600 on after market metal, and there is no difference at all. I even have a titanium case for the B5000 and it's the same quality as the official Casio for 3 times the cost... Buy what you want mate, no judgement here
Doesn't the b5000 have a much better viewing angle (especially if you are wearing it on your left hand)? I have a dw5600 and I cannot read the display while I am driving, cycling or laying my hand on a table.
I prefer DW D5500 series! I think they look cool and unique; very futuristic; masculine almost brutal form; design is extremely well thought-out and construction is tougher. Shame that Casio never made DW D5500 series in full metal!
Hi greg, I would lime to ask you a question as an excellent professional of watches. I also have a casio full metal but the stell from the bracelet is magnetic and not the case. Why is it that way? should it be the same material? I have the black one. Thanks for your attention
A GMW-B5000, this is where my bank balance goes to die. Now I'm not in the market for titanium G-Shocks, they are way out of my league to even seriously consider and by extension a $70000 solid gold G-Shock. However, I have purchased two stainless steels so far, a GMW-B5000RD-4 (burgundy) and a GMW-B5000PB-6 (violet), also known as the _Tokyo Twilight_ . I'd like a GMW-B5000GD-4 (rose gold) and a GMW-B5000G (blue) to complete my set. Why the blue never came with a blue stainless steel band, only Casio can answer that, but it is disappointing. I would probably get a genuine plain stainless steel band and get it ion-plated blue to match. This opens up color options for ion-plating a GMW-B5000D to anything you like.
I bought mine through an eBay seller who sent it from Japan. If you search for GMW-B5000D on eBay you can find similar deals for just under $400 or, on Amazon, for just over $400. I was tracking the prices on several eBay listings when I found a good deal for closer to $350 and that’s when I bought mine. I just needed to be patient.
Hi Mr. Anderson, I usually watch your videos because of my passion for Casio watches since I was a boy (I'm 51). I would like to ask you for something special for me. Now, the watch the most I like is GW5000U but there is a "little" problem: it's so expensive. So I am willing to save money in order to make myself a Christmas gift but first I have to be sure about one thing. I like this watch (like all the others G-Shock) WITHOUT case (bezel). In fact, I have one M5610U like that. I would change the strap for a thinner one. The thing is: would you be so kind to make a video showing us your GW5000U without bezel and another different strap (i.e. strap from Casio F201WA)? Thanks in advance.

A G-Shock that you don't feel comfortable giving a shock to me feels like it misses the point. Kind of like a gold pickup truck. Thanks for the review though!
I wish they hadn’t taken the battery indicator off the watch. When I first got mine it wouldn’t show above 50% on the app no matter long how I left it in the light. I couldn’t tell if it was an error in the app or a defective watch. If they ran out of screen space the should’ve made it a menu option or simply use a smaller icon.
I like it better like that in regards to how it looks, but I feel the same way like you in not knowing what is going on with the battery directly on the watch. It is driving me crazy. An indicator in the menu sounds great. I have another Casio solar (not a G-shock) which has exactly that and it is perfect for me.

Still plastic 1 dollar watches... i have them 2 :)
With 500$ I can buy a very good smartwatch to wear at any ocassions and mentain my health in check! Today, watches are overpriced for nothing!
That smartwatch will be outdated wand obsolete in a couple of years.
This G-Shock is timeless, and it will be still functional and in use when your smartwatch is in the trash.
